Hi !!!
After learning the new world of Linux, I`ve really got hooked on this system.
So for my own need, I did a lot of study from geekitus site´s and have now maked a danish 0.7.1-base.iso and would like to do a danish translation of the normal dokumentation. So far so good!
But I there a way to start a danish Site for Arch linux, so this distro can be more known i denmark.. Caurse right now almost nobody knows the distro, so its really difficult to get help in the inlanguage, but I would change that point of view...
So if this is possible - how do i do that - Are there any demands about that, and if so ? how and where can I find them????
I´m really getting to like Arch not only as server, but also as workstation. So lets give that to all of the danish people..

It was also the whole part of starting a site for the danish Arch users - Instead of just keep doing it all in english.
Let´s get it spread out over the wide world..
Most of all, to get yours attention about it would be great to get more danish Arch..
Well - then I´ll just go ahead for the projekt.

Looking for some ideas for setting up and xServe RAID

Everyone,
Here is what I would to do. I have a new xServe and 7TB RAID. I would like to set all of my end users up with Portable Home Directories. They all have laptops and I would like to use their PHD as my backup source. I would set them to sync in the background a couple of times per day and then write to tape at night.I have about 60 end users. I would also like to use the same xServe and RAID as my Kerio mail server and mail store. What I am looking for is some ideas of how to go about setting up the RAID. I was orginially thinking of setting up as one big RAID 5 using all 14 drives. What I would like to know is what is the number of drives that would need to fail that would render the RAID unrebuildable? I am now thinking about splitting the RAID into two 7 drives in RAID set up as RAID 1+0.
I am not sure if I phrased a lot of this currently, but here is quick recap of what I would like to know. What would be the best way to set up a 7TB RAID to store PHD and my Kerio mail store that provides me the most redudant and fastest acccess.

I'd suggest a 6 disk RAID 5 plus a hot spare for each side. It will give you about 2.4 TB capacity per side (4.8 total), and it can tolerate 2 drive failures per side without losing data, provided there is sufficient time between failures for the RAID set to automatically rebuild on the hot spare. This window is 8-12 hours.
Note with Xserve RAID the two sides are totally independent in the data path -- it will look like 2 separate LUNs. If you want to combine these at the host level, as RAID 0 or RAID 1 to look like a single volume, you can. But the Xserve RAID will not combine them itself... the RAID controllers are independent... it might as well be two separate RAID volumes in the same chassis.
I assume you'll plug this into an Xserve that is serving as an Open Directory server and a file server?

Some Ideas On Organizing/Maintaining Photos via iPhoto? How do YOU do it?

I posted a couple of technical questions last week concerning iPhoto and how it handles files, thumbnails, EXIF data, and photo originals/copies (as http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11425805). Terence Devlin and LarryHN gave me the answers I needed. From their answers, I now have an understanding of the default method iPhoto utilizes to manage and maintain photo libraries.
Those answers have led me to a couple more questions, mostly regarding how I can best organize and maintain my photos via iPhoto within a multiple Operating System household. My massive music collection is easy... I manually maintain and organize my music files via iTunes. I can download music and fix tags in XP or OSX. I store the results on my Windows-based file server and share the iTunes library. On my MacBookPro, I have an iTunes Library that references the directories on the server. Or, I can just access the "shared" iTunes library. Same with my Ubuntu machine (with some anomalies.) Both Windows and OSX have versions of iTunes. Not so with iPhoto.
So, by default, importing my photos into iPhoto will make "copies" as well as a proprietary database containing the EXIF changes I make within iPhoto. I don't see that as the best scenario for me.
What would YOU suggest? How about storing my photos on my file server and pointing iPhoto to the location in "Referenced Mode?" This seems to be similar to how I manage my music. Yes, I know that if I change a filename or path that the library will loose track of it. I deal with this in iTunes. Occasionally, If I make a bunch of changes, I just delete my iTunes library and re-load. But that's the beauty of iTunes... if I change MP3 tag data using iTunes, the changes are made within the MP3 file itself. So if I loose the library, who cares?

You have to maintain both in either a referenced or managed library - but in an referenced library the originals are your responsibility to maintain and to keep the path constant

Hi,
Looking around for some innovative ideas for a project(FYP), I want to base my FYP on J2EE and/or J2ME, something like a front-end implementation(either web-based/mobile device) talking to back-end(mySQL/server integrated) through JSP. Mainly I want to play with JSP,Servlet,EJB,JDBC. I have a basic understanding of this technologies so it will be good to go in deep down.
However, I am lacking some ideas, as to which route to take, whether to explore J2ME with J2EE at this point or whether web-based systems are what i should be developing compared to mobile device systems. basically where is the demand now a days in the industry?.
It looks like most of the innovative/useful systems have been thought about/developed, (flight booking, shopping carts, online banking systems etc). Are there any web or mobile device based purposeful/useful system need researching/developing? something that could help the community. any ideas are very welcome.
I would appreciate any help.

You could kill two buzzwords with one stone, and develop a mobile->device app with J2ME that uses web services to communicate with a >server. Maybe it could be for buying movie tickets or something. 2-in-1, thought about it, even an m-commerce system such as m-banking system, reading about it, the security issues involving a bank is a project on its own. what you think of the idea?

Don't know if this is what you're searching for, and I don't know if there is such a function in LV 8.6, but I'm using LV 2010 and under DAQmx Pallete, you go to "Advanced Task Options", there is a function "Configure Output Buffer", in which you can configure the buffer size you want.

Here's some ideas for a future version of iTunes:
Why not have multiple genre listing available? For instance a track can be both 'Soundtrack' and 'Rock', or for crossover genres, both 'soul' and 'funk'.
Also, how about a customisable type of playlist creator that works like this:
You take tracks and join them together in 'trees', by linking them using a kind of rubber band device. The playlist then follows a random path through the music collection, but only following the branches of the tree - so you could get a smooth musical journey from one genre to another: Reggae --> dancehall --> drum n bass --> hardcore --> techno --> house. Or Rock --> Psychedelic rock --> Funk ---> Soul.
I've got a million more ideas like that if you guys at Apple want to offer me a job...

I do not know if this is the right place to ask for but i need some ideas and help.I need to work on a project to develop a Web Service, that receives data from 2 remote machines at different places , compare them and then return the result to first one.I am not a good java programmer so could anybody tell me please which part of the Java i must learn and what areother topics i must know.

J2EEJSP/Struts are probably unnecessary for this project. Other J2EE (a superset of JSP/Struts) may be overkill as well, depending your needs. I'd recommend starting here:

Questions about the IDE

Hi all,
I have some questions about the IDE's Help menu.
First, without peaking....
1. Why would you click the Help menu?
2. What would you expect to find there?
Now, you can peak
3. Is there anything in the Help menu that surprises you (gee, I never would have thought to look there for that)?
4. What is missing?

That's a reasonable dividing line. I don't know the official reason myself,
but I'm glad there are now two forums because I will not lurk on the Flash
Builder forum because I don't write any of the code for Flash Builder and
therefore have no "expertise" there.
I do write code that goes in the Flex SDK and generally know who to bug
about other code in the SDK I haven't written so if one of my colleagues is
really busy and not paying attention to forum postings I can point them to
unanswered posts in their domain of knowledge.
I would offer that the dividing line is really whether you are having
trouble with the tools, including the code generated by the tools, or
whether you are having trouble understanding with the components and
infrastructure in the SDK.
One cross-over point would probably be profiling. Even though I didn't
write the profiler for Flash Builder, I have lots of experience using it so
if you are debugging memory leak or performance issues I would ask those
questions on this forums. If you are having trouble getting the profiler or
debugger to run, though, ask that on the Flash Builder forum.

Need some Ideas, please

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas as to any additional features I could possibly implement in my program. This is part of my final year degree project.
The program is intended to be an OO Documentation Tool and its main function is to convert Java source code to UML Class diagrams.
The UML Class diagram will include Inheritance and Associations.
Other features that I have decided to implement are:
- Facility to generate custom HTML documentation ( tables listing the variables, methods (including parameter details, visibility etc) etc for each class). I have also managed to convert the java source code into HTML, with colored keywords etc.
- facility to view the source code of each java class in the main program, alongside the diagram.
- facility to save the uml class diagram as a GIF and JPEG image file.
That's just about it at the moment, I'm scratching my head trying to think of other possible ideas.
One idea I have thought about is possibly extending the system to cater for C++ classes but I think that might turn out to be a little over ambitious.
Please please give me some ideas, I need them.. :)
PS. Can someone suggest me a good name for this program?
I was thinking of calling it VisualJ or ModelJ but I notice there are already existing programs with this name.
