my total library is 680 mb, nowhere close to the 2.08 in the pictures folder. I am obviously messing up.
    Actually you’re not.
The iPhoto Window reports the size of the library that would result if you exported all the current versions +and nothing else+ to a folder on the desktop.
The iPhoto Library Folder contains the Original, Modified and thumbnail versions of your pics. It also contains various cache and database files +all of which are necessary+ for the working of the Library.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You can run a Library on an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Suddenly my entire screen now has little dots on it that flash back and forth between pink and blue. What's up?

I was online (on Facebook) when suddenly my coputer screen developed these little dots--uniform across it not just in a browser window--and they started flashing back and forth between blue and pink. The computer froze up and I had to reboot. It hasn't gone away and it's terribly annoying. What should I try to do?

It may be a problem with your video electronics - possibly heat related. Shutdown the PB & leave it overnight. Then startup & see if the dots appear.
     Cheers, Tom

Quit iTunes. Open a Finder window. Click on "Go" in the menu bar. Hold down the option key and the Library folder pops up. Click on that. Go to the Preferences folder. Find and move the file "com.apple.iTunes.plist" to the desktop. Open iTunes (iTunes will behave like you're opening it for the first time but you'll have all of your contents). Try the store again.

  • There's a soft white dot on the screen of my new MacBook Pro Retnia

There's a soft white dot on the screen of my new MacBook Pro Retnia That is visible especially when the background is light. It isn't a sharp dot but rather a soft blurred looking dot. Does anybody else have something like this or does anyone know what it is? I'm thinking its s dead pixel but it doesn't look like one that i've seen on other lcd displays.
I set my desktop background to a 50% grey and that's how I found it. Now that I did, i can't stop looking at it. I tried to take a pic of it its in the center of the photo. Its not easy to see on the photo but, its very easy to see on the display. Oh and its not dirt or something on the surface. Not sure if i should go to the genius bar on it. I am worried that it may get worse. Any input is appreciated.

I also had this problem, same make and model and specifications as you have. Brought it into Apple and also called them about. They stated they have not heard of this yet although I find that hard to believe with the # of cases on this being reported. Must have been a bad lot or batch of Retina MBP's that were made and this got by quality control. But they were okay with giving me a new one on the spot.
As you said, doesn't show on darks but on whites; oh boy it sure does and it is annoying on photo editing and documents where white is all you see; about 1.5mm x 1mm big and bright like a little star. Very hard to detect at first unless you have the white background up as wallpaper.
I sent my MBP back for a replacement and told them I did not want a repair on a computer that was less than 3 weeks old. Stuff happens and no one is perfect so long as Apple and their resellers stand by and make amends by issuing new MBP's. I did not buy mine via Apple direct this time, but rather used a authorized Apple reseller and fortunately they agreed to issue a new one. Keeping fingers crossed.

  • Little Dot on iPod touch?

I've noticed a little dot behind the glass on the iPod's screen. It's about where the whole in the case is at the top left corner:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=br owse&node=home&nplm=TP818LL/A&cid=CDM-US-iPod-C0002911-114439&EmailPageName=5829C_touch_acc&EmailOID=175554&cp=114439&sr=em
    Anyone know what that is?

so rthat if you have auto-brightness on (under settings => brightness),the brightness will adjust itself according to the brightness where you are! An example would be if you are in the dark place and turn on your touch the brightness would be dim, if you turn on your touch in rthe bright place, the brightness is set automatically to the bright light! Therefore its called ambient light sensor!

  • Mysterious little dot

Earlier today, I was browsing the internet, and I noticed a little white dot on my screen. After trying to wipe it off, I realize that it is not a physical object. Since it doesn't go away when I change webpages, switch apps, etc, I figure it's just a dead pixel. Meh, I say to myself.
But tonight, at some point I press F11 to temporarily hide all windows on screen, and I notice that this little white dot slides off the screen as if it were a window. So I start quitting applications to see which one the dot was rooted in. But after quitting all apps (except Finder, of course) the little dot is still there.
After a little investigation using Grab and Photoshop, I find that it is not just one white pixel, but a 3x3 translucent box with one solid white pixel in the upper left corner.
I saved the screenshots for this forum, then I restarted my MacBook. Fortunately, the little dot went away. But I'm still submitting this post just to see if anyone here has any idea what made the little dot appear or where it came from. It's just plain curiousity at this point.
    Thanks

I just got my macbook pro and have the same problem. The only thing is that I have around 5 little dots showing and I tried clicking on them but that didn't work to make them go away. I got my mac on June 13th 2008 and I will be going back to Apple tomorrow to see what can be done about this. After spending close to $4,000 on this machine, I feel that something needs to be done about it.

  • Ive had my macbook pro for a week now and when i cleaned the screen 4 days ago i found a little chip in the screen so the computer was definitely chipped at the manufacture or at the store but again its almost microscopic

To whom It May Concern,i have my macbook pro its a week old and after maybe 2-3 days cleaned it and noticed a little chip in the screen when the light flashed on the computer. Also my charger sometimes just dose not work ill plug it in at a different outlet then it will work its very frustrating to have this many issues i would like to see if i could get a new charger that actually works and a macbook without a tiny chip in it
Please let me know what you guys can do about it.
    Thank You,

You are not addressing Apple, we are Apple users, like you.

Sorry for the delay getting back to this.
Thanks to Fruhulda and Peter for their comments regarding the refusal of Pages to let me make 3D charts.
In answer to the questions put to  me in this regard :
    1. Pages version : Pages '09  v.4.1 (923)
    2. Mac O/S :          v.10.6.8
    3. 3D chart :          Can't find a 'name', but upright bars with rounded corners ???
    4. Moved apps :    Not that I'm aware of!  All should be as installed off the disc.
    5. A note :              I have been able to create these in the past - related to a SW update?
and ... can create these charts perfectly in Keynote (go figure).
    Thanks to all.

  • On the calender. When I set a appointment date up and it puts a little dot to show the date I saved. How can I change the color of that dot ?

What you're describing can't be achieved using the built-in comments summary function of Acrobat, but it can certainly be done if a custom-made script it used to generate the summary because then you're in full control of what's included in it and what's not.

I believe your only option will be to get Apple to replace the screen for you, which won't be cheap.  If the machine is still covered under warranty, you could try to push the case that the screen must be defective for a bug to get in there.  Apple has been known to do free out-of-warranty service in some pretty unbelievable circumstances, that that is at their discretion, so be very pleasant and polite so they'll like you and want to help you out.    But be prepared to have to pay for the repair.
    Good luck!

A four year battery could be dead. I'd contact an Apple Service Center.

  • My Macbook Pro *****! I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button.

I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button. a 2 week old computer is not supposed to do this! it wastes all its time being so flashy that it just craps out all the time. sometimes i feel like i should have stayed with my virus covered PC. at least when it shut down randomly you could turn it back on, but with the macbook pro, it just keeps restarting itself over and over. need help with this, any answers?

Here's a novel thought. Take it back to the vendor. Should have done that one week ago.

Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing.  Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade.  The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back.  When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again.  Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.

  • Not used my G5 Powermac (late 2004) for ages. Only boots in with Installation disk, but colour dots on white screen and message comes up to reboot machine. Nothing happens.

Not used my G5 Powermac (late 2004) for  about 2 years. Was going to set it up for the lads to do school work.
However it only boots in with Installation disk, but colour dots on white screen and message comes up to reboot machine. However nothing happens apart from me keep trying. Also the numerous fans get louder and louder and louder.....
    Any ideas folks

Can you please provide details on the exact model?
For a start, the PRAM battery is likely dead.  PRAM tells the computer which drive to start with, other basic information.  Still, you can usually get the computer to start, though bad PRAM is unpredictable and could be stopping that.
Some computer models use software to control cooling fans.  If there's no software commands they automatically go into high speed to prevent overheating.  Your software obviously isn't loading, so runaway fans.
