A little frustrated with no ringer

Okay,
Has anyone found a way to click this or click that and make the ringer come back alive after it has quit working?
I'm an Apple geek. Bought my first Mac in 1984. Bought my current PowerBook 5 months ago. I lost count of how many between.
I have 3 ipods. Stood in line for 2 hours to get my iPhone. I attend Apple Anonymous meetings every Weds night to try and cure my addiction. To no end.
Love my iPhone. But, I am starting to be a bit flustered. Two weeks, $650 phone, $200 Sprint cancellation fee, $150 first ATT bill. And my phone has only rung 3 times... Friday night and Saturday morning. Then the speaker phone for rings, alarms, and iPod dropped to about 10% of normal volume. It came back on Sunday after I played with some settings. Went away again. Came back partially on Weds after doing a complete RESTORE.
Now tonight, I did a RESTORE with no change. Took it to the Apple Store and the Genius told me it was a known software bug and "apple is working on it" which I'm sure they are.
But, I must admit i was disappointed... thought for sure there would be some kind of update to cover the worst bugs this week.
Unless the phone is in my pocket where i can feel the vibrate... i miss all calls.
And yes, I took all the plastic off. And yes, all volume controls under settings and the rocker switch are dialed up to 10. (I tried to make it go to 11, but I think I have to download "Spinal Tap" to make it do that.)

Thanks. Yup, Ring volume is set to FULL. Ringtone set to Marimba. I've tried others. When you set the Ringtone, you can hear it, but its VERY faint. Not enough to hear more than 3 to 4 feet away in a silent room. Which is what it sounds like when it rings now.
Also, the toggle switch is set to on. Once when I flipped that switch off, then back on, the volume came back to about 50 or 60% for a couple of hours. Then went soft again.
Is that what you mean by ringer switch?

One little frustration with comments

in numbers when I enter a comment for a cell I then always hide the comment leaving the little triangle in the top right corner. Occasionally when I want to reduce or delete an opened comment I have a heckuva time opening it. I try clicking all over the triangle in the corner and it opens the comment but when I drag the cursor over the comment it reduces again and won't stay open. Is there a better way of getting a comment to open? I've even tried figuring out precisely where the arrow should be over the triangle to get it to open and - frustration!!

You're describing normal behaviour in this sentence (for the situation you describe immediately before it): "If I try to take the cursor over the comment it vanishes before I can click on the comment."
If the mouse pointer is the white plus sign and is within the bounds of the commented cell, the comment field will be displayed as shown for cell B4 below, without the bar containing the Minimize and Delete buttons. If you click at this location, the cell will be selected, but there will be no change in the state of the comment field—it's display will continue to be temporary and will vanish as soon as the mouse pointer leaves the bounds of that cell.
If the mouse pointer is over the cell's Comment Marker, it will display as the black arrow (see cell C2). If clicked at this location, the comment box will display as shown, with the bar containing the Minimize and Delete buttons, and the display will persist until it is dismissed by one of the actions described earlier.
It's very easy to move the mouse (or your finger on a trackpad) slightly as you are clicking. If the pointer is not within the bounds of the Comment marker on mouse-up, then you will still see the temporary display of "Another comment here" attached to B4.
The way to avoid 'wasting a lot of your time' is to s l o w d o w n, make sure you are in the right location, then click without moving the mouse.

I'm frustrated with the bookmarks. I so long to be able to right click on any bookmark and choose to have them in alphabet order. Would also like for the little icons to go away. Never been able to figure out how to do this the MAC way. Help.

After the release of Firefox 29, several people noticed that after using the Customize feature, most items on the right-click menu for the Bookmarks menu on the menu bar became ''grayed out'' and unusable until you closed and started Firefox back up again. That seems to still be a problem for me in Firefox 36.0.4, so if you used Customize, that could be the explanation.
You still should be able to click and drag bookmarks around the menu even with the broken right-click context menu.
And if it's easier than restarting, the context menu still works in the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b to open/close) and Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or "Show All Bookmarks").

I am not the only photographer with this issue check out all the chatter about it.

This happens every single time a new camera comes out from one of the two big camera makers. Nikon and Canon do not send preproduction units to Adobe, so Adobe has to go out and buy a D750 or whatever from the store to test and profile it before they can update Lightroom. They can't get one earlier than you and I can. The profiling is quite an extensive operation. Other camera makers do send preproduction units, use dng, or do the profiling in-house and there you often get support right from release. If camera makers would finally embrace an open raw format such as dng, this whole problem would be gone but both Canon and Nikon seem to think they live in an upside-down world where their clients only use their software.
Usually the dead period only lasts a few weeks but it is frustrating nevertheless. My only advice is to not buy a new camera at the day of release and expect to have third parties to support it. You definitely should not be buying these cameras right away if your business depends on it. Aperture, Capture One, etc. have the exact same problem. No third party (read non-Nikon in this case) will support the camera from the release date. Some are quicker than other adding support. Adobe is somewhere in the middle of the pack in this respect. Nobody outside of Adobe knows when an update comes out. Could be tomorrow, could be a few more weeks or a month. They might jump straight to Lightroom 6 and never add direct support to LR 5. Sometimes they will first bring out a beta version of dng converter that will convert the new camera's nef files to dng, which will work fine in the current Lightroom before updating Lightroom itself.

Okay, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Funny, iTunes can be found in a program folder, but it does not show up in the programs list. I tried to look for it using the command prompt ("wmic" --> "product get name") but iTunes is not there either. Doesn't even show up in the registry to try to uninstall.
I just want to "properly" uninstall and reinstall iTunes (plus the other usual suspects, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, & Apple Application Support). If anyone out there has any suggestions, please help! (I'm running Windows Vista -- don't judge/laugh) :-)

Okay, feeling like an idiot, but will share so others don't have to. I rebooted my computer and that enabled iTunes to reappear in the programs list. Don't appear to be having the same problems as before (no error messages now). Problem solved!

Rsrb with multiple ring groups on head ends with one phy ring?

working on an issue for a customer and I cant find good documentation on this anywhere for multiple ring-groups
have 2 routers, each with 2 ring groups connected on a mau terminating multiple serial connections (wan, hence the rsrb) and utilizing rsrb tcp with local ack. The configuration was done sometime ago. It was set up to utilize frame which now they are using ptp t1s. I see in the remote routers they are forwarding pakcets to both routers to ring 20. (there are 2 routers if one fails then it is meant to learn its path to the CIP through the other router)

I thought the physical rings had to be different in order to run parrallel links. Or are different bridge #'s feasible? The end issue they are having is that when links bounce, they are not releasing the tcp session and the show llc shows remote sides as busy and the head end as connected. (then obviously removal of local ack fixed the issue)
Not ready to live without local ack... could the same ring # on both routers be the issue since they are on the same mau and destined for the same location?

show llc shows the local mac of the gateway and the cip token.
the network goes like this

I have tried numerous things on this and its apparent that the only option is dlsw and I have pressed the issue enough to start on it with test segments.
my theory was when the host queried the gateway, its first reply was local-ack on rtr2 (could be rtr1 but for theory we will say rtr2) which was giving back RR and the other end was actually in a disconnect state and sending rnr's to the rtr1 (in this exapmple the host was talking thru rtr2 to the remote side and the remote side was trying the opposite router) which local ack would reply to the supervisor frames
what was causing the problems in my opinion is the host provider does not utilize local ack since they only have lanned token rings and the customer provides their own wan routers. So the explorer would be answered quicker by the other router and that would be the source route bridged path to the remote side, where the other sides local ack and rif cache was routing through the opposite router. Unfortunately the site where we collected the data on I can not test since I have transitioned it to dlsw to solve their issues and show them the benfits of dlsw

I really need some help with drivers for my Aud 2 ZS Plant card as i am very frustrated. A couple of months ago I reformatted my HD and subsequently re-installed all my drivers. When I was ready to install my soundcard drivers\software I could not find my installization disc as I moved to a new place 6 months ago and I guess they got lost in the unpacking. Since then I have tried to find drivers for my card and in the process have?used 3rd party drivers ie. KX, PAX, and daniel_k but could not get them working or they (KX) were hard to understand. Anyway, I am to the point now that I just want to have sound with functioning software where I can get back to doing some hobbyist home recording as I did before with orginal drivers. In saying that, can anyone please point me in the direction to find the most up to date drivers for my card? Iam running WIN XP Pro sp3. I am to the point now that I want to take the card and front dri've bay out of my system, chuck it, and go and buy a $20.00 generic card.
Help would be much appreciated.

If you want the latest drivers I'd use Dan K's if I were. None of the old software works with the latest drivers so you're kinda stuffed. Dan K's are based on the 2.8.000 drivers which are the second to latest drivers available. Don't use the 2.8.00 drivers - they cause more problems than they solve.
Before installing any more drivers/software it might be an idea to make sure there's nothing left of any previous drivers you've tried to install. Could be what's causing the problems.
This is how I remove my drivers. May seam a little convoluted but in your case it may prove useful to be as thorough as possible.
You'll need Driver Sweeper, and CCleaner, 7Zip and Dan K's Audigy Support Pack 2.0 (if you don't already have them).
Download these and install; Driver Sweeper, CCleaner and 7Zip.
Now you need to extract all the files out of Dan K's support pack, which should be an *.exe file. You need what's inside that *.exe file. After installing 7Zip, you should see a new 7Zip options menu when you right click on files or folders?
Click on it and then select Extract files to Audigy Support Pack... or something similar. Don't just select Extract files.
Inside the new folder that should have appeared after 7Zip extracted everything, you'll see another folder named Drivers.
Copy this folder to your desktop.
Now reboot and start Windows in safe mode.
Click Start then Run and type cmd.exe to open a command prompt, then type (minus quotes):
" takeown /f C:\Windows\*.cdf " and hit enter, then:
" cacls C:\Windows\*.cdf /G *insert your logon name*:F " and select Y and hit enter again.
You can now close down that command prompt window.
Go in to the Drivers folder you copied to your desktop and run Setup.exe and this should appear:

Select the same options as above and click OK and let it do it's thing - when it says reboot your PC click No or Cancel.
Now run Driver Sweeper and do a scan for all Creative drivers then click Clean.
Don't worry if it says things like file doesn't exist or some other error msg. It'll still get a few things.
No load up Add or Remove Programs (personally I prefer Revo Uninstaller) and remove anything related to Creative.
Finally load CCleaner and scan/clean your registery.
Reboot back in to normal Windows.
And that's it. A tedious process I know, but it's the only way I've found of properly stripping CLs drivers out.
You'll know if it's worked because when you now go and install Dan K's pack the installer should just run straight through. When there's still driver remnants the installer always says it's found previous drivers and need to uninstall them and reboot.
tbh I recommend running through this process regardless of wether or not your choose to stick with the old drivers or go with the newer ones.
Creative's drivers are infamous i'm afraid and at least after this your PC should be relati'vely clear or remnants.

Total frustration with IOS 8.0.2 on iPhone 4s, what is going on?

PLEASE HELP!! Total frustration with IOS 8.0.2... what a nightmare. Can't get important apps to work.. that I use everyday... can't connect to WIFI... Phone crashes repeatedly (4s) ... it hangs... it takes 5-10 minutes to boot.... battery drains very quickly.

What troubleshooting steps have you tried?
Here are some:
Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
- Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear. (For iOS 6, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
- Relaunch the App and try again.
- Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
- Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
- Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
- Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
- Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
- Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

The good (?) news is many people are have OS 6.0.1 wifi problems.
I could not connect to my home network. What eventually worked for me (twice now), though it makes no sense, is to go to the particular connection you want to use, hit the little blue arrow on the right to get the details screen. Scroll down to the bottom and change "HTTP Proxy" from "None" to "Auto". Then leave the "URL" field that pops up blank.
This should not work. However, it has for me where many other suggestions have not.

Frustrated with 70 Hour Weeks: Lazy or Legit Issue

So for a little over a month, I have been working 70 hour work weeks (I am salaried so no extra pay), and I am becoming very frustrated with the work week due to lack of free time and the fact that I am the only one in the office for countless hours. Most of the extra hours are a result of being understaffed and project deadlines being moved up by several months to a whole year. The 70 hour weeks do not show any signs of ending soon, and I have expressed my concerns to my boss. I usually get a reply that these kind of hours are to be expected for people in IT, and that I should just get use to it. I was wondering how other SpiceHeads feel about long weeks and no extra pay. Are my concerns warranted or am I being lazy with my frustrations with 70 hour work weeks.

Has anyone used the Unifi Outdoor AC AP's yet. I just got one in today for install at a Marina tomorrow on Lake Ontario and I can't believe how big this thing is. I've every type of indoor unit they sell and a few of the point to point units but never any outdoor AP's. Here is a picture to get some perspective on the size.
I was thinking it was maybe a little bigger then some of the large point to point units. Was I ever wrong it's the size of a cinder block face. Thankfully I don't need to worry about space where I'm mounting this but I thought I would post this in case anyone else is looking at these and is wonder size. I will come back tomorrow and post how the install went and how the performance. So far I've got it on my cloud controller and was getting strong signal outside with the unit sitting in my basement.

If Apple is so full of geniuses, why can't they come up with a usb cable to connect the iPad to a printer? This would seem like the most intelligent first choice for those of us who are absolutely frustrated with iPad printing functionality.

My sister has an iPad and an HP printer. She cant' print from her iPad even though a genius at the Apple Store sold the combination to her with the idea that it would be easy to do. Instead, I have to go to her place with my MacBook, she sends me an email, and I hook up my laptop to her printer to print what she needs. Why can't the Apple geniuses come up with a USB cable and an OS update to make it easy and NOT SO FRUSTRATING to print from the iPad?

The newest version of iTunes is awful when it comes to Cloud syncing-file management. I'm constantly frustrated with what iTunes 'chooses to eliminate from my mobile device and settings aren't fine-grained enough to allow for real user control.

I'm endlessly frustrated with iTunes Cloud syncing, something that was supposed to make lenjoying my music easier. I routinely find that, though itunes and podcasts have been split, iTunes arbitrairily removes music files or in progress podcast in favor of 'new' podcasts. The settings are just not fine-grained enough to allow true user control and so we are instead subjected to 'Apple knows best' protocols. I understand and appreciate the level of exacting control Apple excercises over their ecosystem, however, more and more often I see them tightening control over things that should be user control while dropping the ball on aesthetic desisions made in producing their own software (see the hideous pull down tab for iTunes to access Podcast, TV shows, Music, etc.
I would like to see features like those in Mail and the Podcasting apps implemented in iTunes afor the management of content on mobile devices, for instance it would be great to swipe to delete files that you know longer want on your device, at both the album and song level. Another issues is the new pushiness of iRadio and iTunes Store, the app now seems to default to the iRadio page (versus the last page Albums, songs, etc. that the user was navigating, or in the instance of the iTunes Store push, if I doon't have all the tracks of an album i own on my mobile device 'complete my album' takes you to iTunes store rather than showing the 'cloud' download icon next to missing tracks. These are the tactics I expect from Google, not Apple (pushing commerce over quality user experience).
Fix these things Apple, please.
