A little trouble with a Zen X

I recently attempted to put some files on my Nomad Zen Xtra with the most recent PlaysForSure firmware after a format of my PC and a fresh driver install, but when I attempted to do so, the Creative transfer software was not working properly. As a result, I attempted to use Windows Media Player, which worked, but it screwed up my file structure a bit. I decided to go ahead and format the device and then transfer all of my files back to it via Windows Media Player, but in the process of transfering files the battery died to the unit (charger came unplugged). I proceeded to reboot the device and try to continue the process, but for some reason the computer would not let me connect to the device. When I plugged it in it came up as an MTP device in Device Manager (detected and installed), but none of the connection software actually detected the unit as present. I then decided I would reset the OS on the device so I booted in recovery mode and did so. Upon reconnecting the device, however, I found that even the firmware patch would not validate the presence of the device. I then uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled to try again, but got nowhere. At that point I decided I might try the *old* firmware, but once again I got the same problem- "not detected".
When it's plugged into the computer Device Manager shows the device and XP's "Autoplay" dialog comes up asking me how I'd like to add files, but of course none of the options it shows me are actually operational. I sent a letter to tech support, but I'm not exactly hopeful that they'll be any use whatsoever. If you guys have some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've had connection problems before, but re-installing all of the software components of the zen xtra fixed them. Aren't you using the Creative Software to transfer songs onto your player?
I didn't think it worked with anything else.

  • Trouble with Creative Zen

    Hi
    I've been checking the topics for a problem similar to mine but haven't found any. I've had my creative zen for about 3 years now and have loved it. However, in the past few months I've been having trouble with it. While playing a song (either while laying stable in my car, or on my arm while working out), the player will just randomly die. I try to turn it back on, and have no luck. I then reset it by using the back of my earing, and somtimes it will start back up, and other times it won't. If it doesn't start back up right away, I'm able to plug it in to charge, and it will usually let me turn it back on after charging for a few minutes. I notice that its never on empty, and there seems to be at least half a battery level left. Some days the player will die randomly several times, or other times it will go days before I have a problem with it. I have tried to reboot it, and clear off the entire player, upgrade the firm-ware, and still have the same issue. Any ideas? Is it toast?
    Thanks!

    Is the player recognised in the Device Manager, do you see it listed there (perhaps as an unknown device, or with an exclamation mark)?

  • Im having trouble with my zen microph

    <FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#336600 size=4>Im having trouble with my new Zen Microphoto. I turned it on a couple days ago and it froze at the startup screen, and it just says creative on the screen, and you can't do anything about it. I read the faqs and product help stuff that told me to go to recovery mode and select something like clean files. I did that and it says "Scan Disk...". Ive been waiting for like 8 hours, and i need help. I have like 800 songs, so im wondering if that's the reason it is taking so long. Well if you can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

    I didn't have this issue with my new ZMP but if you are using it for the very first time and this happens, bring it back to the store and get a replacement. Test it out directly at the store to avoid anymore troublesome issues.

  • Having a little trouble with the "export" dialog box

    Hi all,
    When I get to the export dialog box, I'm not able to type directly in the "Custom Name" space.  I have to click around and fiddle with some of the drop-down menus (and then get back to the "name format" that I like) and only then can I triple-click or backspace on the former name and input a new name in the "Custom Name" blank.
    Also, the "Export Versions" tab is highlighted, but hitting the "return" key doesn't make the export happen.  I have to mouse up to that button and click it that way.
    Is anyone else having any trouble with inputting information on the export page?  And ideas?
    Thanks as always.

    Yes, the name format is Custom Name with Index.  But when I click in the field, I can't edit it.
    Mark,
    For me, this preset is working well. Have you checked, if the preset for  "Custom Name with Index" correct?  You can verify it, by setting the "File Naming" format to "Edit". The preset should look like this:
    I'd try to edit the preset, save it, and edit it back, to create a new preset file.
    If that does not help, remove the user Aperture User Preferences, as described in this document:  Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
    And as I said, hitting "return" doesn't start the export.
    That also your "Export" button is not responding to return, even if it is highlighted in blue, is a sign, that your preferences file might have a problem.
    Regards

  • Having Trouble with Creative Zen Touch 20G

    Hey everybody. I bought me a 20G Creative Zen Touch (you know, the one where the scroll thing is in the middle of the player, vertically?). Anyway, i bought it a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty **bleep** cool. No problems with it.....until today. I was watering the lawn, listening to my music (no, it didn't get wet), when all of a sudden it stopped working all together. Well, at first i saw some "Voice Recording" thing i had never seen before and no matter what i pushed, nothing happened. I couldn't even turn it off. I tapped it on the side, then it began working again. I decided to shut it off and put it in my room. Later when i went back to it,it wouldn't turn back on at all!!! Even though it's battery was charged, i decided to plug it into the charger where, once i plugged it in, i got a screen that said:
    <EM>"CREATIVE ZEN</EM>
    <EM>Copyright (c) 2004</EM>
    <EM>Creative Technology Ltd.</EM>
    <EM>All Rights Reserved"</EM>
    And thats how it is currently: Nothing at all happens when it's disconnected from the charger and i try to turn it on. When connected to the charger, i get said screen, but thats it. No music, not even the blue backlight or the blue blinking light on the power button indicating that it's charging. :smileyindifferent:
    Can someone tell me what's going on/how to fix this? We have been getting unbelievably hot weather here in So. Cal and i have the feeling that the hot temperature may have something to do with this. I've tried keeping the player in the coolest place in the house (besides the freezer) which would be near a fan so it could be in a cooler place, but even leaving it in such place for a couple hours isn't helping me.

    Hey buddy
    same problem with me. The zen got little moist due to rain, after that it froze at the 'Creative screen' that too comes on when i connect it to charger. I disconnected the battery, it worked for a while but it is back to same position now. It dosent responds to resetting pin... nothing happens it is dead. Only when i disconnect battey and connect charger ... give it a big whack it works for a while then hangs again.
    Still trying my stuff on it. Otherwise i will format it and reload the firmware later on.
    if u get any solution let me know on [email][email protected]][email protected][/url]
    thankx

  • Trouble with creative zen 16b

    Hello
    I just bought a creative zen (6B) with version .20.02. I was able to transfer music from my windows media player once. But now i plug my zen to my laptop (windows vista 32b service pk) and nothing happens....does not recognize my zen. I had it setup to sync automatic when plugged into my pc but still Shows No player Connected, when indeed it is. What Can I do to fix this problem?

  • Little troubles with DVB-S2 via MPlayer

    Hi,
    I use the MPlayer already for quite a while to stream DVB-S and DVB-S2 with it. But for approximately two weeks something changed while watching HD-channels: the video track lags every few seconds; the audio track is quiet normal. However, the non-HD channels hide the problem.
    E.g. while watching a German HD-channel, I find following terminal outputs:
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]mmco: unref short failure
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]reference picture missing during reorder
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]Missing reference picture
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]Increasing reorder buffer to 2
    h264 @ 0xf2b820]Increasing reorder buffer to 3
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]Increasing reorder buffer to 4
    [mpegts @ 0xeb3080]PES packet size mismatch
    **** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
    Specially this message I can't understand, because I'm using a CPU AMD Phenom II X4 955 3,2 GHz, 8 GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM and the graphic card ASUS GTX 460 Top GDDR5 PCIe 1024 MB. But, let's continue with the outputs:
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]concealing 880 DC, 880 AC, 880 MV errors
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]mmco: unref short failure
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]number of reference frames (0+6) exceeds max (5; probably corrupt input), discarding one
    [h264 @ 0xf2b820]illegal short term buffer state detected
    Furthermore I'm using two HHD WD20EARS, which are connected to RAID1 via 3ware 9650SE-2LP, and the DVB hardware decoder card Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2. My desktop environment is KDE SC 4.8.
    For starting the DVB-S2 streaming I use szap-s2 -r -p -S 1 -c ~/.mplayer/hdchannels.conf "NAME-OF-THE-HD-CHANNEL" in one terminal and mplayer /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 -demuxer lavf -cache 8192 in a second terminal.
    I just mention all this stuff because I've absolutly no idea, what could be the reason. Before this troubles started, two weeks ago, everything worked flawlessly. Checking the /etc/log/pacman.log I can find out, that the Linux kernel was upgraded from 3.2.6-2 to 3.2.7-1 on 24th February. I'm not sure, but maybe since that time these failures appears. Presently I'm using Linux 3.2.8-1.
    Has anyone an idea what might just be the cause? (Perhaps it could be a option to try the LTS-kernel?)

    So, today I just made some small tests. First of all I tried to start a HD-channel with WinTV7 on Windows 7: The channel was streamed correctly for almost one minute and than it was lost - and I had no possibilty to get it back.
    After that I tried again to start the same HD-channel on Linux. I apologize in advance to the large amount of text but following is the terminal output of the first minute (finally canceled by STRG + C):

    **** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
    Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
    - Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
    - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
    - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
    - Slow video output
    - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
    - Slow CPU
    - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
    - Broken file
    - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
    - Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
    - Try -cache 8192.
    - Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
    - Try -nocache.

  • Trouble With Charging Zen Xtra's Batt

    A question similar, but still different to this one has already been asked, but i am still lost.
    After I was finally able to install everything, and even get songs on the Zen, i realized that my battery wasn't charging properly. I plug it into the wall and i just get the lower left hand corner (the battery power indicator) message that it is running on electrical power only. After a while it does an idle shut down, but i think when it is shut down it stops charging. I charged it over night and the next day only had two bars of power, which ran out after a two hour car ride. Is there any secret to charging i am ignorant of? Please help, it would be very helpful. :smileyindifferent:

    Hi,
    I had the same problem. I tried to charge the battery but the mains icon would only come up, and not the lightning bolt that shows it is charging.
    I ended up buying another battery, as i thought the first one was defecti've. The same thing happened with this one. (I thought it was to do with the fact I hadn't regularly used my player, and hence the battery had failed)
    I saw a post for checking the player's HD and re-setting the machine (as just posted in last few posts in this thread) and it worked!
    Now my player works and charges with not problems at all

  • Still having a little trouble with template

    Hi,
    Can anyone please take a look at the following page and tell
    me what's going on with my faux columns?
    BPI
    Test Site - Activities Page. Since my pages are varying heights
    I eliminated the "page height" command for my center content div,
    using the "clearer" convention in my style sheet. Seems to work
    great in IE but I'm having a problem with FF and Netscape. I'm
    thinking that the Code isn't quite right somewhere in my template
    page (pasted below) but I'm not sure. Any help appreciated. Thanks

    It works to clear the floats BEFORE the containing div is
    closed - that's
    what forces the container to re-contain all of the stuff
    that's floated.
    Your code was clearing the float AFTER closing the container,
    and that
    doesn't do the job.

  • Having Trouble with my Zen V P

    Hey!Well, I am posting this question here and I really hope someone can help me. Yesterday, my MP3 player ( I have a Zen V Plus) froze while it was playing some songs. No big deal, I came to the support website and with the help of one of the tutorials I was able to make it work again. The problem I have now is that somehow?(I guess that from one song I have in the player) it shows the singer's picture. It is okay when you are playing a song by Eminem for example, and you can actually see the album picture in there. However, it is not cool anymore when you are playing a song by Wisin & Yandel, for example and you see a picture of Enrique Iglesias, or you are listening to Hinder and the picture you see is the one of Juanes. How can I fix that?Thanks!

    Sounds like you need to re-tag your playlist/albums. Have a look in the help files for your player re Album art and tagging.
    There is some good software out there that can tag. eg MP# Tag clinic http://www.kevesoft.com/

  • Having a little trouble with GridBagLayout.

    OK. What i basically need to do is have JPanel (GridBagLayout) with a JTextField covering cells from 0-3, then have a JButton in cell 4. This is all on one line.
    Because i am only adding two components to the JPanel, and asking it to act as though it had 5, i guess it doesn't like it. I think it should work like that but what can i do :) ...
    Help would be appreciated, thanks.

    GridBagLayout doesn't size the components in it based on the number of cells the component occupies (except relative to other rows/columns which you don't have). It sizes on the preferred size of the component along with the fill and weight of the GridBagConstraints for each component.
    I usually set preferred size of the textfield to 4 times the button, set the weightx of both components to 1.0 and then set the fill for both components to HORIZONTAL.
    You could also set the preferred sizes the same, the weightx of the textfield to 4.0, the weightx of the button to 1.0 and the fill for both to HORIZONTAL.

  • I am having a little trouble with classes

    I can not figure out what is wrong or missing from this code because I keep getting "declare in file" error code
    this is the simple code
    import java.util.Scanner; //program uses class Scanner
    import java.text.NumberFormat;//used to format currency
    import java.util.Locale;
    public class Employee
    public Employee();
    //main method begins execution of Java application
    //create Scanner to obtain input from command window
    Scanner input=new Scanner (System.in);
    //varibles declared
    String Emp_name;//Stores employee name
    double Hours_worked;///Stores hours worked
    double PayRate;//Stores PayRate
    System.out.print("Enter Employee;s name:");//prompt
    Emp_name=input.nextLine();//read employee's name entered
    System.out.print("Enter the pay rate of the Employee:");//prompt
    PayRate=input.nextDouble();//read the payrate of employee
    System.out.print("Enter the Employee's Hours worked:");//prompt
    Hours_worked=input.nextDouble();//read hourlyrate of pay entered by user
    NumberFormat nf=NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(Locale.US);
    System.out.printIn("Employee" + Emp_name);//display employee_Name
    System.out.printf("Employee's Pay: $" +nf.format(Hours_worked*PayRate));//display GPA
    }

    masterbuild,
    Firstly, post your code between code tags.
    [code]... your code goes here ...[/code]
    so it looks like thisdouble check it using preview before you commit the post.
    Now, Please don't be offended, That's not a bad first try, but it's just all wrong, which is part of the learning process.
    Here's a list the problems I can see with that code, and what to do about them... if you address these problems you should end up with a working program.
    Number 1
    public class Employee
    public Employee();
    //main method begins execution of Java application
    {As The Pair of Condiments and The Sick Brainiac have already stated... lose the semicolon!... it should look like this...
    public class Employee
      public Employee() {
    Number 2
    //main method begins execution of Java application
    What main method? I don't see any main method... Where's your main method? It should look like this
      public void main(String[] args) {
        Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
        System.out.print("employee's name : ");
        String name = input.nextLine();
        System.out.print("hourly rate : ");
        double hourlyRate = input.nextDouble();
        System.out.print("hours worked : ");
        double hoursWorked = input.nextDouble();
        System.out.printf("%s's gross pay is $%s\n", name, NUMBER_FORMATTER.format(hoursWorked*hourlyRate));
      }* The convention is to use camelCase (hump in the middle) for variable names, and CapitalCase for class names. See http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/
    Number 3
    The numberFormatter would best be declared as a class attribute, so you can reuse whenever you print a currency amount... as in...
    public class Employee
      private static final NumberFormat NUMBER_FORMATTER = NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(Locale.US);
      public Employee() {
        ....Also... these three comments worry me a bit...
    // Stores employee name
    // Stores hours worked
    // Stores PayRate
    None of these values are being "stored". These three values are local variables, which exist only while the method (actually block) in which they are declared is executing... after that they are "forgotten". To a programmer the word "store" implies that the values are being persisted in a file, or database... that is the values are being stored in any fashion for reuse by a subsequent execution of this program, or indeed another program. I think it's just that you don't know the lingo yet, but I just wanted to be sure that you know that these values will be forgotten as soon as the main method is finished.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Trouble with a ZEN Micro .

    I've had my ZEN Micro for about 4 months, and the warranty's exspired. Does this sound like a lost cause?--A few weeks ago, it started freezing fairly frequently, but removing and then replacing the battery always did the trick. --A few days ago, this fix stopped working. It freezes on the second CREATIVE logo screen, and then makes a "ch-ch-ch" noise. --I've tried cleaning, formatting, and finally removing the firmware. --I can't get the firmware I downloaded onto the player, however, because my computer no longer recognizes that the player is hooked to the USB. Any suggestions? I'm desperate!!!!

    The same thing has happened to me, I only just listened out for the strange whirring/clunking noise from the player now that you've mentioned it. I don't really know what to do either... I'm waiting upon CS to get back to me, since this is not even my original player - it's a replacement they sent to me as my first one stopped working, so hopefully they'll be able to sort something out for me?...

  • Trouble with my zen extra 40 gig mp3 pla

    What did I do wrong?
    I updated the firmware, the computer sees the player, now it sees it as a 20 mb hd plus, the firmware tells me that the device is not pluged in even though the computer sees it. it's in a recovery mode and seems impossible to access. Hope this is not a los cause. Any help on this will be greately appreciated.

    You are victim number 224 of creatives bug ridden firmware update. Have a look through the recent threads and you will find that this has been happening for a while now. A few people have managed to get their Zen working again but not many. You could email creative support but you won't get any useful help, just an ?85 bill to replace it.

  • Capturing Troubles with Premiere Pro CS5.5

    Hello!
    I am fairly new to Premiere and I'm having a little trouble with the capturing option.
    I have Premiere Pro CS5.5, a MacBook Pro (13 inch), a Sony HDR-CX 110 camera connected to the MacBook with an HDMI cable and a HDMI displayport adapter.
    I think I have everything I need to get it connected but it seems that whenever I select capture the window that pops up tells me that my device is offline.
    I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro. I bought it in August of 2010. I have a Sony HDR-CX 110 camera. I have it hooked up to a HDMI Displayport adapter via a HDMI cable and the camera is plugged into the wall and turned on playback mode. I know the displayport works because I have a dual monitor set up and the adapter works because I have connected my TV to my Mac so there should be nothing wrong with the adapters and ports. But for some reason the camera doesn't appear to show up whenever I try to do this capturing option.
    The camera's box does say "compatible with iMovie" and I have been able to import footage I collected without the camera plugged in to the computer, such as a guitar performance and an interview. That process was pretty simple and was connected to my computer via a USB.
    Now, I think that maybe I'm just trying to do something more advanced with the camera and the camera can't do it. But if I am wrong (and I hope I am) I don't where to go from here? Any help would be so greatly appreciated!
    Thank you =)

    That will only work if your camera HAS a firewire connection... I think for Mac it is call iLink, but since I'm Win I'm not sure about that
    Just do what was said and copy the folder to your hard drive and import from there
