A Little Worried!

I've got to say I'm a little worried. I'm expecting a 3GS 16 gb iPhone today. I've always used Blackberries before. I am noticing that on all the BB forums, most of the posts are about tips, tricks and apps. It seems most of the posts here are about trying to solve problems. Are they as problematic as they seem to be?

if you are talking about the Apple discusssion forum - you have to remember that people who post here are ones who have problems - people without problems dont tend to post on this forum
remember that over 50 million iphones have been sold worldwide and the number of posts here is a minute percentage of the people who have iPhones
i have has all 3 generation iPhones with almost know problems - my initial 3GS did have a problem with the battery - but Apple replaced it with no problems and i havent had a problem with the replacement
Also Apple support is among the best i have seen for a computer (or any) company)
i once had a problem loading an update onto my iPhone - Apple support stayed on the phone with me for about45 minutes just to make sure the update loaded ok - and the support person gave me his internal phone number to call back in case i had a problem

MY MAC JUST DID SOMETHING REALLY WEIRD, AND IM A LITTLE WORRIED...

Hi, i left my computer on, its set to sort of, shut the display screen down when im away from it for more than 10 minutes, but not to put itself to sleep or shut down.
However, when i got back from downstairs, about an hour or two later, i looked at my screen and my login window was there with my name and picture, just like i had restarted my mac. But i hadn't. it was as though my mac had restarted itself. I'm a little worried my mac is spazzing out, or am i just being paranoid?

I was working on my PowerBook G4, MAC OS X version 10.4.6 1.67 GHz Power PC G4 1 GB DDR SDRAM when I accidently pulled out the power cord from the laptop itself. Immediately the screen flickered to black and then the power went completely off. I was not able to get the laptop to turn on again. When I pushed the battery button all the lights went on showing that the battery was fully charged. I tried starting with the power cord in and then with it removed but nothing.........aboslutely nothing........no sound, no nothing. I could not get the laptop to start up by doing ctrl, apple, power button....or with any other combination of keystrokes. I was trying to insert the DVD to use the disk utility.
I then found info telling me to unplug the power cord, remove the battery, push and hold the start button for 5+ seconds, re-insert the battery and then push the start button. The laptop now springs to life but any time I close the lid or retart it, it again goes dead and won't start again unless I do the things mentioned in this paragraph. I was smart enough this time to burn copies of my projects so I'm not in as much of a panic now. However I do need to fix the laptop from going dead on me everytime I close the lid or restart the machine.
Someone recommended on another forum that I reset the power manager but there is a major warning saying to only do that as a last resort and that I would lose my RAM card or something like that. I'll look up the warning info again and post it here. What are your thoughts on resetting the power manager.

I bought my ZMP couple months ago and everything is working fine but sometimes when the player is off and its just on the table it blinks with its blue light and then nothing! if I notice this I turn its on to check if nothing is broken or something and its actiong normal

Yes, that is normal. After 4 hours of inactivity the light will blink and this is when the MicroPhoto goes into full shutdown to save battery life.

My wife and I are thinking about getting match but we have different itunes accounts and we are worried about losing our individual apps

You won't lose any apps but one of you will lose the ability to update apps on the device.
For you to share iTunes Match all devices must be signed into the same iTunes Store Apple ID that was used to purchase the service. This means any Apps that were purchased with the other Apple ID cannot be updated on the device as a device can only be associated with one Apple ID every 90 days.
I know it's not what you want to hear, but my suggestion is to simply stay with the system you have. It will cause you less headaches.

Worried about Cyber Crimes :(

I've recently had someone call my house phone from what seems to be a Skype phone number, as for the fact that I can't call it back via *69 or even by dialing the number with and without *67. They claimed to be a representative for Microsoft and told me there was a problem with my computer. So I played along for a little while until they told me to open up the INF folder on my computer. This told me that the call was not legitimate. They then proceeded to tell me that al the files and folders inside of the INF folder were infected and needed to be deleted. My second clue to knowing they were not a representative of Microsoft. Because of the fact that I'm a computer programmer, I know that the INF folder contains the driver information of the hard drive it's contained in. So deleting it is a big NO-NO. Well I proceeded to inform the so called "representative" that if I experienced further problems with my computer that I would take it to my Uncle who deals with that sort of thing for a living, and have him look at it. I asked them to not call my house again and told them that I was not a moron. Then I hung up the phone.
Now, because I've been threatened via Skype before it got me a little worried that someone had found someone that was actually good at "hacking" and would try to come after me (I'm a little paranoid about these kinds of things). So I called the Department of Justice a few times and kept being disconnected. So since I feel it is not fair to the rest of my country to bother the government with such petty problems; I've stopped calling.
What I want to know is if they try something like this again, or they try to spoof my IP Address (IPv4 or IPv6) then is it possible for the police, or government to assist me in protecting myself from Identity Theft or other means of Cyber Crime?
As I stated before I'm a very paranoid type of person, and wish to ensure this doesn't happen again. I enjoy using Skype to keep in touch with my friends that live all throughout the states, as well as for bussiness meetings, programming lessons, as well as study groups for college work. I would hate to have to stop using it because someone keeps bothering me at home on my private home number.

I was worried when I went to do it last night myself. I had read all the issues, and had also had some problems with some previous updates. I went for it anyway, and it worked perfectly. I figured I still have my extra year on the aaplecare and if it jacked up my phone I would just stand in line at the apple store for a replacement.

Enlarging Partition - worried

Hi I deleted an old partition and I want to enlarge my original Mac HD to take up that space. But after following apples website Im a little worried.

It says I can enlarge without losing data unless it is a Master Boot Record Partition. I have no idea how to find this and the page is very vague, looked all over disk utility.
The partition is my orginal Macintosh HD and I have no other partitions in that harddrive, I know its my start up disk but is it my MBR?

No, it's not formatted MBR. You can't install OSX or updates on an MBR disk.
In DIsk Utility, select the top line for your drive in the sidebar (should have make and size). Down towards the bottom will be the *Partition Map Scheme,* which is certain to be GUID, as you have an Intel Mac. (It would be +Apple Partition Map+ if you had an older PPC Mac, or +Master Boot Record+ if it were an external disk used by Windoze).
So yes, you can expand the top partition by pulling down the lower-right corner, then clicking Apply.
And yes, you should always have backups. All disk drives fail: a few when they're quite new, a few will live for several years, the others, somewhere in between. Other bad things happen, too. When something does happen, you risk losing everything if you have no backups. Everything.

Any tips to keep MBP a little cooler?

After seeing all the pictures of MBP batteries destroying themselves, I've started to get a little worried about how hot my Macbook Pro gets. In the back, it's literally to hot to touch for more than a second. This happens even when I'm not doing anything intensive. I've never seen a laptop get so hot (although, I'm the only person I know with a MBP, everyone else has either a PC or a normal Macbook). I'm fairly sure it's normal, but it still worries me. Is there anything I can do?

Use a solid metal heat dissipater such as a cookie tray, or a notebook stand or notebook external fan plate which lets the heat dissipate away from the machine. Antec makes a notebook fan that plugs in via USB that you can buy from CompUSA. Also run the hardware test to make sure you didn't get a machine whose internal fans are out of kilter as a few have been found to be that way, and are detectable by the hardware test:

Worried about my order

Hello, I pre-ordered the Z3 phone 11 hours ago from the sonymobile store, with the offer to get the £90 bluetooth headset for £1 with it. When I finished the process of typing my card details in and verified by visa, I was promptly taken back to the first page again. There was nothing like Thanks for your order or even an e-mail confirming that I had bought it. I checked my bank account and indeed £550 was deducted for Debit card transaction.
I'm just a little worried about what happened as it's a lot of money with no information in return. I cannot find any page to check my order history on the website either. Should I be worried? or will I recieve an e-mail at some point. Really confused here.

Thank you for that post, I still haven't recieved the e-mail yet from sony about the situation or the confirmation. I'm thinking the confirmation e-mail might come when the date the phone is to be sent, it's strange though... We should've recieved something to let us know we ordered it and that £550 was going to be taken from us.
The 48 hours they said they would endeavour to reply within is nearing its end. I am going to head to bed now as I have work tonight again, then if nothing has been sent to me I will contact them in the morning. Still feeling optimistic

DTS 610, would like a little more info!

First of all, I'm glad to finally see Creative have decided to offer support to those enthusiast that would like to use their own HIFI speaker system, instead of a PC speaker system....thumbs up!
However, I have a few questions/worries to this new unit.
What are the specs of the ADC's?(like: bit conv. resolution, SNR, THD...) Remember HIFI systems are of higher quality than PC speaker system. Which translates in lower quality sound being more noticeable!
And secondly, I'm a little worried with the latency. 50ms sounds high to me...
When I'm using my MIDI keyboard with Reason and chooses a 50ms latency. The delay between me pressing a button and the sound to come out of my speakers is very noticeable, resulting in annoying me.
I'm fearing this scenario will repeat with a very fast action game(just examples: Counter Strike/Unreal Tournament series).
Have Creative tested and made sure, the delay is not noticeable when firering a gun in a fast action game?(I'm guessing you have...but I want to be sure! )

IPhone 5 running ios7.1.1 is no longer recognised by iTunes on my iMac?

I am running a MacBook Pro and an iMac. I have an iPhone 5. This was running fine until the last update 7.1.1 and not I can't sync or charge from either computer! What's going on? Any solutions?

This seems to have fixed the issue: on your desktop, hold down the [OPT] key and click on "Go" in the menu bar; holding down the [OPT] click on Library, find Preferences, and then delete all the files that start with "com.apple.itunes.XXXX.plist" where the "XXX" is whatever other things may exist - as long as they end in "plist". From my experience, preference files are rebuilt by the system after the next restart, so you have very little worry of losing any important data; the worst that could happen )and NOT in this instance, but for other plist files) is that you may have to reset the application "preferences" again when you next start it up, to act or appear in a "preferred" customized way for you.
Once you delete the .plist files, empty the Trash, and either log out or restart the computer. Once you're back up and operational, start iTunes and your iDevices should reappear in the sidebar (if that's open) and/or at the top of the screen (if that view is enabled).
Hope that helps. It definitely fixed my problem!

I haven't tried it either, in fact I've always heard that the smart thing is to install in the default location. But the option is there. Keep in mind that a lot of stuff will go to the user folder on the C drive in any case, so you can't keep it entirely off C.
Normally I'd ask "why?" - but SSDs have brought back space restrictions, at least for a while. I'm getting a little worried for my 240 GB system/apps SSD, which is very nearly full pretty soon.

Capture One vs Adobe Camera Raw processing - what is better?

I regularly shoot on a P45 back and Hassleblad camera. I shoot using Capture One software. It is much more convenient for me to process the files in Photoshop's Raw convertor than Capture One but I'm always a little worried that maybe it lacks the quality? I've not noticed any quality dip but most high end digital camera outlets process on Capture One.
Are their any significant differences if I process in Photoshop rather than Capture One? Is the quality the same?
One further detail: my images are heavily worked in Photoshop so very small colour variations are probably going to be negligible for my way of working.

While I certainly agree that skill of the operator is the largest factor, I think it is a fair question because the results very dramatically.
Attached are screen shots from a very weak shot (go ahead and blast it) that was over exposed. I dropped the exposure by one stop in Aperture, ACR 5.3 and Capture One Pro 4.8 and did some high light recovery in each. You can see how varied the responses are with the image and histiogram. These are all at 100% and shot with a Nikon D3. If anyone can offer a clearer understanding of why the results are so varied that would be very helpful.

I have a MacBook Pro 2.16GHz with 1 gig of ram, I was planning on using an AJ HDX900 or 400 for shooting. I'm going to purchase an Apple 23" inch cinema display and most like a Matrox MXO as you suggested I would probably need. " Buy what you need when you need it" or something like that right! You can see I have been reading your blog. Back to the matter at hand, I was wondering if my set up is fast enough and powerful enough to edith the material and do I use the Matrox to output to a betacam deck afterwards? Sorry my questions may seem a little or very simple but I am rather new to the industry.

Though SAP doesn`t recommned more than one but our client requires 2 or more than that but we need to fix it either

So we are looking for specific setting for this.

    a. Is there chance of loosing the data if agent has opened more than two session.
    b. In which session interaction record data will get stored,the one on which agent picked up the call or in the latest

This is purely a report over an audit table. The "key" column represents the key columns of another table of what data has been inserted, updated or deleted.
ORDER_NO=35399^RELEASE_NO=*^SEQUENCE_NO=*^
In my example, there are three key columns;
ORDER_NO
RELEASE_NO
SEQUENCE_NO
and the value this audit relates to is stored too,
where ORDER_NO=35399
and RELEASE_NO='*'
and SEQUENCE_NO='* this is a unqiue row which has been audited.
All values are exact matches, including the *'s which are the ERPs system if representing "not selected" without actually using null.
You could have the following info:
ID,KEY
10000,'ORDER_NO=35399^RELEASE_NO=*^SEQUENCE_NO=*^'
10001,'ORDER_NO=36647^RELEASE_NO=*^SEQUENCE_NO=*^'
10002,'ORDER_NO=36648^RELEASE_NO=10^SEQUENCE_NO=1^'
10003,'ORDER_NO=36648^RELEASE_NO=10^SEQUENCE_NO=2^
For each audited table the key columns are fixed, of course. Since I am only ever reporting over a single audited table the defined columns in the key column will not change, but their values will (as shown above).
Therefore it is true to say that the key columns can be obtained from the 1st row (or any for that matter) row returned.
Perhaps I should make the report less flexible and hard code these, since I know themm (for now).
This means I only need to retrieve the three values for each.
(Sorry of this seems everso complicated)
