A lot of time to multiply two arrays

Hello!
I want to multiply two arrays. The size of the two arrays is 1568x1568. I use to do it a AxB.vi block....but it spends a huge time, almost 17 seconds, when a operation like this have to be done it less than in a second.
I 've attached an example of the multiplication of two arrays with this size, you have to wait 16 seconds to obatin the result.
Someone know how i can do this multiplication as far as possible?I have to use another block.....for example....formula node and make iterations (or in this way you spend the same time?)
Thank you very much

On my system (P4, 2.6GHz, 1GB Ram Win2K), the example runs in 19 seconds in LV7.0 but in 7.1 it runs in 300mS!
No idea why - perhaps the AxB function was rewritten for 7.1
Yes the matrix operations got a big makeover in LabVIEW 7.1 and are MUCH faster as demonstrated here.
On my 1.6GHz PentiumM laptop, the difference is not that big, but still about 10x.
LabVIEW 7.0: 3700ms
LabVIEW 7.1: 360ms

    }I am comparing the contents of the two files Source.map (containing 3 lines) and Destination.map (containing 5000+ lines). The contents of the Source.map gets appended in the Destination.map only if it does not contain the same.
    Now my program is doing the necessary, but it is taking lot of time. It's taking 1 min 26 seconds.
    Could anyone please tell me what do I modify in may program to make it execute much faster.

    1) Just compare the byte content - no need to convert to Strings.
    2) Compare a block (say 256K bytes) at a time - no need to read the whole file into memory.
    3) Compare the file lengths first - if they are different then the content cannot be the same.
    4) When appending one file to the other, set the 'append' flag in the constructor of FileOutputStream to true.

  • My iPhone 4S camera needs a lot of time to open, after the latest two iOS 6 updates, help?

    Whenever I tap on the camera app, it opens, but I can't take any pictures! It only shows a black screen ( the one that appears when you switch from camera to video) but it doesn't open and it doesn't show the scene or whatever is in front of the camera.
    That is really annoying, it started to happen after that major update that took a lot of time (the first iOS 6 update) and continued after the second,I thought that the second would fix it but it didn't.
    I'm using an iPhone 4S.
    Did this happen to anyone else? If so how did you fix it? -if you did-
    I hope that I get some help about this, it's really annoying me a lot!

  • About combing two array into one

    Hi all,
      I post a questiona bout converting an array of integer into char (byte) array and I got a solution already http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/how-to-display-char-code-properly/m-p/2596087#M780368
    However, I enouther another problem while dealing with an array of  U16 type. I would like to extract the high and low byte from numbers (U16) stored in array. I extract the high and low byte for each U16 number and convert them as char, concatenate them to a string. Repeat this process for each element in the array so to get a big string with each element is a char for high and low byte. My code is enclosed as follows
    It works fine but I am concerning the speed. Is that any other way to do it fast and don't use loop (in real case, I will deal with pretty big array many times, efficiency is a problem). Note that the high and low bytes array extracted from the original array with the module Split number.vi, but how can I combine these two array in one code with data arranged as high-low-high-low ... ? Thanks.

    You need to be more clear.
    Looking at the code, you are dealing with I16, not U16. Also your index array primitives could be replaced by autoindexing. Your use of the feedback node only makes sense if you want to append strings forever with stale data, thus growing data structures without limits. If you only want to convert the current data, remove the feedback mode and use a "concatenate strings" with a single input. A for loop is one of the most efficient data structures and using it is not a problem. One way or another the code needs top oerate on all data.
    All that said, I agree with Tim that most likely all you need to do is insert a typecast after the "to I16" and eliminate all other code.

    Actually, the reflection api is pretty fast since
    JDK1.4.0...No. Reflection could not be fast. In J2SDK1.4 it seems to be faster then in previous releases. But improvments do not include array operations. So here are some results of simple benchmark:
    bash-2.05a$ /usr/java/jdk1.3.1_04/bin/java TestArray
    Result for reflect copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 4915ms
    Result for system copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 460ms
    Result for pure java copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 137ms
    bash-2.05a$
    bash-2.05a$ /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_01/bin/java TestArray
    Result for reflect copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 6082ms
    Result for system copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 491ms
    Result for pure java copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 115ms
    bash-2.05a$
    bash-2.05a$ /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1/bin/java TestArray
    Result for reflect copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 5738ms
    Result for system copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 497ms
    Result for pure java copiing (3 elements, 1000000 times): 157ms
    bash-2.05a$
    As you can see, in new Java reflect operations on arrays are even slower then in jdk1.3.1. System copiing is good alternative for pure java (element by element) copiing, espetially for big arrays. And here is the code of this benchmark, test it on your PC also:
    import java.lang.reflect.*;
    public class TestArray {
        static void doNothing(){}
        static int field;
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            final int COUNT = 3, TIMES = 1000*1000;
            final String[] arr1 = new String[COUNT];
            final String[] arr2 = new String[COUNT];
                long time = -System.currentTimeMillis();
                for(int i=TIMES; i-->0;)
                    copyReflect(arr1, arr2, COUNT);
                time += System.currentTimeMillis();
                System.out.println("Result for reflect copiing ("+COUNT+" elements, "+TIMES+" times): "+time+"ms");
                long time = -System.currentTimeMillis();
                for(int i=TIMES; i-->0;)
                    copySystem(arr1, arr2, COUNT);
                time += System.currentTimeMillis();
                System.out.println("Result for system copiing ("+COUNT+" elements, "+TIMES+" times): "+time+"ms");
                long time = -System.currentTimeMillis();
                for(int i=TIMES; i-->0;)
                    copyPureJava(arr1, arr2, COUNT);
                time += System.currentTimeMillis();
                System.out.println("Result for pure java copiing ("+COUNT+" elements, "+TIMES+" times): "+time+"ms");
        private static void copyReflect(Object src, Object dst, int count) {
            for(int i=count; i-->0; ) Array.set(dst, i, Array.get(src, i));
        private static void copySystem(Object src, Object dst, int count) {
            System.arraycopy(src, 0, dst, 0, count);
        private static void copyPureJava(String[] src, String[] dst, int count) {

  • Server boot takes a lot of time due to JMS persistence file store

    Hi,
    We're using WebLogic 9.2 on a windows machine.
    Recently, we enhanced our application to work with JMS.
    We're using 2 JMS servers on 2 different servers in a cluster, and working with distributed destinations.
    We're using file store as our persistence store.
    Lately, we found that server boot takes a lot of time due to actions which are performed on the file-store.
    Analyzing this problem, we saw that the file size is ~2GB.
    We understand that the file size does not shrink (unless manually compacted), and its size is matching the highest number ever of pending messages in the queues (like a high water-mark).
    We also turned store debug on, using weblogic.Debug.DebugStoreIOPhysical, and we saw a lot of recovery logs after the file-store is opened.
    We've checked and verified that our JMS transactions are completed successfully. We also verified that the number of pending and current messages is 0.
    We've stopped the server gracefully, verifying there are no pending messages.
    However, server boot repeatedly takes ~30 minutes due to heavy work done on the persistence store.
    Compacting or removing the file store eliminates the delay.
    However, we want to avoid manual operations every time we want to boot the server.
    Please share your ideas.
    Thanks,
    Itsik

    The only suggestions I have off the top of my head are:
    * Ensure (1) the host system has at least 2GB (file store size) of free physical memory in addition to the memory used by current processes, and (2) the host system is not rebooted between each WebLogic restart. If you make sure of these two items, then the operating system will implicitly cache the store's file contents in memory even between boots -- when WebLogic subsequently boots the file store, the O/S should serve the file contents up much more quickly.
    * Consider moving to a JDBC store. JDBC store runtime performance is lower, but since you have a typically only have a small amount of records to recover, boot performance should be higher in this case.
    * Not that it helps your particular case, but it happens that we have boot performance enhancements in process for a future release (hopefully a near future release).

  • Quicktime takes a lot of time to open after last Quicktime or iTunes update

    I have actually no big problems, but its a bit annoying that Quicktime Player takes a lot of time (maybe twice as before) for opening a Quicktime file (mp3 or video file, it doesnt matter).. I think this situation arised after the last Quicktime update or the update before this I dont know for sure. I think the last Quicktime update.. I am using the latest Quicktime which is 7.6 and its Tiger (10.4.11). When Quicktime Player is not opened, and its getting opened for the first time by clicking for instance on a mp3 file, it takes more then 10 seconds to open up, when I click the file Quicktime Player bounces normally as always but then the spinning rainbow beachball is shown for more then 10 seconds before the player window appears. There is no delay when I go open a mp3 from another mp3. The delay occurs only when Quicktime Player is not opened yet (quit/closed) and you click on a Quicktime file then the delay happens during the opening of the player.. Sometimes it doesnt even open the file I clicked, but only Quicktime Player so I have to click the same file again..
    What I tried is :
    deleted all Quicktime player preference files.. Didnt help
    removed all plugins from the Quicktime library.. Didnt help either
    What could the problem possibly be? What can I do to recover it except for installing my system all over again? Will Apple fix this problem with the next update?
    PS: I dont exclude that the latest iTunes update (8.1) can be a cause of this problem. Do you know if the iTunes update also changed/updated something regards Quicktime (Player)?

    Why is an Archive & Install not an option for you? It does NOT delete your applications or your settings, and is NOT the same as an Erase & Install which does.
    In my opinion it will be the only way to get your old G3 working properly again.
    How to Archive & Install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    This document explains how to correctly reinstall a prior version of Mac OS X in the event that other troubleshooting does not resolve an issue:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25404
    BUT: Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186?viewlocale=en_US
    Will Apple fix this problem with the next update?
    For 99.9% of users there is no problem to fix.
    But before doing your archive and install, when did you last perform a bit of maintenance?
    Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
    Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
    In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
    This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.
    Background information here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
    An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
    By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
    If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
    Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Minus takes a lot of time

    Hi all,
    My problem is as follows.
    I made a mapping that in less then a minute populated on of my tables. Then I change it to, before inserting, make a minus with target table, it works fine and takes almost the same time to populate the table, except when the target table is empty, in this case it takes four hours.
    If I take the minus it runes ok!
    What could be the problem?
    Owb 9.2
    Oracle database 9.2
    Thanks,
    Vitor.

    I have a splitter control that makes some records to be inserted in a table and some other's to be updated (complex condition to update needed), after the splitter on the flow that will insert i'm making a Minus between this records and the target table (selection MINUS target). When target table is empty it takes a lot of time.
    I edited the mapping PL/SQL and try to execute the cursor created to this same flow and it takes the same time. I guess my problem is that the original select is made just for the records that doesn't exist in target table (that's for insert, uses all record's for update). When the target table has most of the records it will select few on the source (to insert) and minus run much faster.
    What is odd is that just Original select goes in a few seconds and the minus takes all the time, but i just got 20000 records with 4 small columns, two of them numbers. And target table is empty!!!
    I have made several other MINUS instruction in some other databases much more heavy to the system and worked real fast.
    Could it be database configuration?
    Thanks,
    Vitor

  • A large universe takes a lot of time to be opened in Designer

    Hi All.
    When opening a large universe (I can't tell at the moment how large...) it takes a lot of time to open it. a lot of time can be up to two hours (I guess even more).
    Well, I have been told that there's a way to open universe in Designer without the Designer verifying objects/tables/whatever in the opened universe, and that can help me open it quickly.
    Does anybody knows how to do it ?
    Thanks you very much
    Ehud.

    Hello,
    can you tell us what is the size of this Universe in terms of:
    number of tables, number of objects, size of the .unv file?
    Also, is this behaviour specific to this universe or you have other universes having the same problem?
    Last, are you 'opening it' as in File/Open or importing it as in 'File/Import...' ?
    Thanks
    PPaolo

    Hi Shiva,
    I am using two more select queries with the same manner ....
    here are the other two select query :
    ***************1************************
    SELECT * APPENDING CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE tbl_summary
        FROM ztftelpt LEFT JOIN ztfzberep
         ON  ztfzberep~gjahr = st_input-gjahr
         AND ztfzberep~poper = st_input-poper
         AND ztfzberepcntr  = ztftelptrprctr
        WHERE rldnr  = c_telstra_projects
          AND rrcty  = c_actual
          AND rvers  = c_ver_001
          AND rbukrs = st_input-bukrs
          AND racct  = st_input-saknr
          AND ryear  = st_input-gjahr
          and rzzlstar in r_lstar
          AND rpmax  = c_max_period.
    and the second one is
    *************************2************************
      SELECT * APPENDING CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE tbl_summary
        FROM ztftelnt LEFT JOIN ztfzberep
         ON  ztfzberep~gjahr = st_input-gjahr
         AND ztfzberep~poper = st_input-poper
         AND ztfzberepcntr  = ztftelntrprctr
        WHERE rldnr  = c_telstra_networks
          AND rrcty  = c_actual
          AND rvers  = c_ver_001
          AND rbukrs = st_input-bukrs
          AND racct  = st_input-saknr
          AND ryear  = st_input-gjahr
          and rzzlstar in r_lstar
          AND rpmax  = c_max_period.
    for both the above table program is taking very less time .... although both the table used in above queries have similar amount of data. And i can not remove the APPENDING CORRESPONDING. because i have to append the data after fetching from the tables.  if i will not use it will delete all the data fetched earlier.
    Thanks on advanced......

  • Adding two arrays together

    I am trying to add two arrays together, it does not seem as if the arrays are broken up into more than one index. I have attached my code. If the array is broken up into indexes I would like to add each corresponding index, but I think the array is all in just one index and if so I was wondering how would I break it into indexes. Thanks

    Since you are "transposing" and later work with 1D array, I assume you want to read the first column of the file.
    Why do you need a sequence stacked 5 frames deep, local variables, 5 instances of the same boolean diagram constant and 5 path conststants of which some are identical??? None of this is needed!
    All you need is probably something along the lines of the following picture, which probably does something similar to what you want. Still, we are probably still jumping through too many flaming hoops. Note that the execution order is uniquely defined by the wiring alone, no sequence needed! Can you take a step back and tell us what you are actually trying to achieve with all this? How many columns are in the file? Only one?

  • Writing two arrays to a Excel Spreadsheet

    Guru's
    I am trying to take information from two arrays and write them to a spreadsheet. One array generates the headers information for the columns, the other array is a random number generator. The number of columns and rows are input from the front panel. The first column of the chart is time at some multiple (interval) input from the front panel
    The problem I am having is timing the data out of the loop at the same time so they write together. One loop writes first and the other is left out. The data is going out to an excel spreadsheet. The data is correct for the headers and the columns, but won't write together.
    I have only been using LabView for six weeks and have spent a good portion of this weekend working on this problem.
    Attached are screen shots and the .vi of the problem. Explanations of each loop are writen in the block diagram.
    Thank you for your time and help!!

    First let's talk about the code flaws:
    Placing a text decoration over a path constant does not turn it into a valid path constant.
    All your controls belong outside the loop, because it would be really bad if they could change during running of the loop. This is also less work, because LabVIEW does not need to re-inspect the control during each iteration.
    Your while loop should be a FOR loop because the number of iteration can be calculated before the loop starts. This eliminates checking for termination.
    You are not writing any excel files. You are just writing an ASCII table, but you possibly force excel to open it via a fake file extension. (this might be OK, but make sure to NEVER save it later as excel or the file structure would change dramatically).
    "# of rows" and "# of machines" should be integers (blue).
    Don't be afraid to brance a wire. You don't need any local variables if you do so.
    To determine the order in which the segments are written to the file can be determined by dataflow if you wire it correctly. Wire the path to the write function that needs to write first. Then use the path output of this function and wire it to the next instance. Now the second instance must wait until the first one is finished.
    (Currently you are branching the path wire, and the execution order is random!)
