A Macbook too far

Hi all y'all.
My wife uses her Macbook at work. The LAN there is in one building (house) and her office is in the far end of the next building (house). The connection to the LAN for the second house is wireless (not Mac hardware). The signal indicator on the Macbook shows insufficient signal to make the connection. The brick fireplace in between is probably not helping. Is there a piece of hardware (perhaps an Airport Express) that I could place in the 2nd house closer to the LAN wireless transmitter in the 1st house and then reach the Macbook by Cat5 cable. I am just not sure that 2 wireless transmitters can talk to each other. Perhaps this is a no brainer. Perhaps I have no brain. Any help is appreciated.
Thanx in advance, Thales.

I am just not sure that 2 wireless transmitters can talk to each other.
You can do this by creating a wireless distribution system (WDS), which will require a 2nd wireless router, as you've envisioned.
It would be best if that router came from the same manufacturer as the one in the 1st house. (Ensure they both support WDS, though.) It's often difficult to get AirPort base stations to work with non-Apple WDS implementations.

  • My Macbook pro screen tilts back way too far (180 almost) how do I fix?

Tonight I opened my screen and it seems to go way too far back, as if it's loose. Not sure how this happened or how to fix it?
    Any ideas?

I would suggest you go to the iFixit website and check out the instructions for replacing the display.  This should give you a good idea of how it works and what to look for.  Clearly there is something amiss with your MBP.  Maybe some tightening is all that is necessary or something is broken.
    Ciao.

  • Too far away

My MacBook pro is too far away from my router to connect. What is the name of the relay device that I can put half way between? Also do I have to configure something to make that work?

Airport Express is the cheapest way to go and yes you'll have to join your wireless system to extend the range. It may not work with a wireless router that isn't an Apple product.

  • PSE 11 New layout - too far the opposite direction?

I have been a long time user of Photoshop Elements, I think since version 2 or 3. I went from 6 to 10 earlier this year and have been working with a Trail version of 11 for a few days now. Overall, I like it, but like so many companies do, when they address a major concern of a large group of customers, they go too far in the opposite direction.
Two major complaints about PSE up through 10 are that it is A) too dark and B) the control icons/text are too small and difficult to see. This is mostly a complaint of the visually impaired. (Which is an interesting side-discussion, given that photography is a visual art).
Although I liked the dark layout, I tended to agre with most users about the latter complaint. The icons and text were difficult to see even for people with good vision. With PSE 11, I see the exact opposite, the layout is too bright for my tastes. After all, the purpose of this software is to work with images. A dark layout lets me focus on the image itself, and not be distracted by the controls.
That much I can adapt to, but the bigger problem is the screen real estate taken up by the Tool Options. It's HUGE! Especially when working with images in a vertical format, which represent a significant percentage of my images. For example I love to play around with vertical panoramas, an often overlooked way to capture a scene such as tall trees, buildings, etc.
I am finding myself constatnly havign to toggle back and forth between the Tool Options bar, and even with the F4 keyboard shortcut, it's a pain in the butt.
So... my opinion is that Adobe fixed a couple big problems for a lot of users but went too far and created a different set of problems for many other users. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
What I'd like to see are some different solutions:
First of all, I'd like to see an option between dark and light layouts. Let users decide. Kinda like making the program skinnable, but not all that many options are needed.
Or... how about an auto-dimming feature? When the mouse is hovered over the image area, while working with the various tools, automatically dim the surrounding panels and menu bars. Then, when you move over the panels and menus, they would return to normal.
Second, find a better solution to the Tool Options bar. Either make it A) moveable, like the other panels, B) resizeable, or C) auto-hide it.
At this point, I've almost decided that the size of that Tool Options Bar is a deal breaker and I won't upgrade. Vertical real estate is hard enough to find on computer monitors and Adobe took up 25% of what little I had. I'll wait for a future version to see if they take it back the other way.

True, and I have that option enabled. Given that I need to use the Tool options, primarily Crop, with different settings on each individual image, I am finding myself opening and closing the options bar constantly. I have two options: have it pop up when I don't want it to, or I have to open it when I want it, then close it afterward. Either way, the resulting workflow is tiresome at best.

  • HD TV as a second display, desktop extended too far

    Hello,
I have a Philips 27" lcd hd 1080 television that I have connected to my Powerbook using a dvi - hdmi adapter. Everythming works great except that the desktop environment is extended past the screen.
It doesn't matter what resolution I have set, it is always past the screen. I have checked the TV's settings and there doesn't seem to be a fix.
When s-video is connected, I don't have nearly the same resolution, but the desktop issue is not there either.
One reason I want resolve this issue is because I am soon going to purchase a Mini and use it as a media center for my TV. I hope that this issue is fixed by then.
Does any one have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    George

Hey...Im having the same problem. I just got a sony 46 KDLW3000 HDTv and tried hooking up my powerbook to it via the DVI -->VGA input on the Tv. The resolution 1920 x 1080 works fine, except there is a black bar on the left of the Tv and the desktop environment is extended too far off the right side of the Tv. I dunno what the problem is cuz i tried all sorts of different settings and even tried SwitchResX...but nothing worked. If anyone has a solution...that would be GREAT! Thanx

  • Creating a 1 page scrolling site - problems with the final section scrolling too far

I have created a 1 page scrolling site that works fine apart from the final section, which scrolls too far. My site is made up of a pinned headr, a pinned footer, and 4 sections (defined by rectangles - each one 1011 pixels high). I have used scroll effects to bring the items in and out.
The site can be viewed here: Home
The problem is with the contact us section, where you seem to be able to scroll further than the bottom section.
These are my document set up settings:
so my height is set to 4042 (though I have tried it with 4044 - 4x1011 - it makes no difference. When I click on the link to the contact section it looks fine, but I then seem to be able to scroll further down, and this seems dependant on the monitor / browser size. The problem is more pronounced with a smaller monitor / browser size in height.
I have tried everything I can think of to make it not scroll beyond what the anchor takes it to when I click on the link, but whatever I do the problem seems to persist.
I would welcome any suggestions on this, and also any general feedback on the site. But help with the problem first please.
Many Thanks in advance - I would be happy to post the muse file but cannot seem to find a way to do this.
    Ian

Thanks for the help. Is there a way that I can upload the file for someone to look at - I have tried your suggestion but cannot find any empty text boxes or anything at the bottom. I have gone top right and tried the upload file section but it tells me that I am not allowed the create the content.
Actually i'll put it in dropbox and share it that way.
    Dropbox - YESS2.muse
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can see what I have done wrong - it is my first time doing a 1 page scrolling site so it might be a school boy error
    Cheers

  • Item Button Positioning: Too far to the right with "Begin on New Field"

I'm attempting to add an item button inline with other items. If option "Begin on New Field" is set the button is too far to the right, however, if this option is unset the button is too close to the item on to its left.
Any suggestions on how I can get more granular conrol of this button's location?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    Jeff,
For situations like this I highly recommend the Firefox web developer toolbar. Since ApEx makes heavy use of tables for layout, using the "Outline >> Table Cells" feature shows you how things are broken up (with td tags) and offers clues to resolving problems.
There is also a CSS viewer along with a "Display Element Information" option that shows a full hierarchical view of any element on that page that you want to click on. Check it out. You'll be glad you did.
BTW, in your case, it appears that you simply have multiple elements of differing heights that are being vertically-aligned differently. The date picker icon appears to be bottom-aligned with it's associated text box while all the other elements appear to be centered on the row. Correcting it? Don't know. I'm sure Vikas or Carl could come up with a DOM/CSS hack that could make it look the way you want it.

I shot a video using my iPad 2, and it is too far away from the subject. How do I zoom in and save the whole video like that? Thanks!

Sorry to be such a moron with this, but I just don't have much experience with this iPad.  I have had it for over a year and I just keep adding stuff to it and it has worked great.  Now that the memory is used up, I am trying to figure out how to free up space and not lose what I have paid for.
So, Step 1 is complete, as I have "Transferred" all of the purchases.
What is Step 2?  I unchecked the concert on the iTunes library, did a sync, but it's still on my iPad.
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • Screen goes to black when tilted back too far...anyone else had this issue?

My ibook has started this crazy new thing. The screen goes to black when tilted close to all the way back. It's not that big a deal, but I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and if it possibly will get worse. When it happens, I just close the lid, let in go into sleep mode, then open it back up touch a key and all's well, I just have to be careful not to lean the screen back too far. In the past, I've had to send it back twice for the logic board to be replaced and as much as I love Macs, I really feel this is not a well-made product. Thanks for any advice....

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
As the old joke goes about the guy who went to the doctor and, raising his arm, said, "Doc, it hurts when I do this." And the doctor said, "Well, then, don't do that!"
Yes, it is a familiar thing to happen to an iBook. The backlight cable can get pinched in the hinge, causing it to go off at certain angles.

  • IMovie has dragged photo from iPhoto too far off screen that I cant find it

I have opened a logo within the iMovie viewer screen that had so much black around it that I couldn't figure out which way to drag the photo to find the small logo surrounded by black. After so much dragging around I am not sure which way I need to drag the photo around within the iMovie viewer to have it centered, much less even visible. Apparently, iMovie saves that setting. Now even when I open completed projects where the photo was centered it is not showing it. I think it has the photo so far off to the left, right, below or above that it won't find any of them. I have tried zooming in and out with the photo settings in iMovie. Still nothing. I tried using other pictures very large or very small but am afraid that I dragged the first one around which was about 30" x 30" with the logo only occupying about 4" in the center that I have moved the center too far off the axis that it would be occupying the theoretical space several feet off the center of the viewer and have no idea which way to drag it to get it back into the center. Hope that makes sense.

    Hey,
Thanks for the quick response. I am trying to bring a logo from a near pinpoint using Ken Burns effect to as big as I can before I transition to a bumper. I did this once before and had the same problem. I finally found the center of the picture/logo by moving it around, trial and error and luck. I have tried to use known good images in place of the logo that went black and it seems they are all showing black as if they are all so far off center they only show black. I have opened finished projects where it shows a similar logo effect and when I go to 'edit photo settings' in the completed project it the image goes (or shows) black.
Now, any project I go to I can't bring in any picture from iPhoto without it showing just black. If you try using a photo in iMovie from iPhoto and put it off center, it seems the next time you try using another one it's starting point is just as far off center (the same point) as the last one that was moved around.
Not sure if I explained that correctly.

  • Problem with menus on the right and image is too far to the right.

Notice the difference in sizes of the menus, (Unfamiliar with the correct terminology). I cannot get the Adjustments, Layers, Properties, etc. to all be the same size, increase their width. Notice the loaded image is too far to the right underneath the menus. I have to go to Window/Arrange/Float in window to move the image to the left. Also I cannot get the Maximize/Minimize button to work. How can I fix these problems.

I did that already with the same results. Trying to widen the Adjustment
menu does not work. I am satisfied with
the way the other menus appear. The only other problem that bothers me
is that the loaded image is to far to the
right, and is underneath the menus. The only way I can move the image to
the left is to use the Float in window
command, but it is not permanent. It goes back to the default position
    when another image is opened.
Thanks for the Alt shortcuts and the button is visible.
