A Modest Proposal
Let's assume that a 61 year old guy, we'll call him Andy, is staying at his son's place temporarily, as an alternative to homelessness due to the on-going depression. Let's further assume that Andy needs to be able to print files on his son's Windows XP based 6 year old Tower, call it The Obsolete Piece of Crap, but repeated attempts to get The Obsolete Piece of Crap to see and connect to The Awesome HP Printer about 14 ft away (in the Z axis, down in the basement) fail. So next, lets assume that Andy's daughter-in-law, Dawn--much younger and more tolerant of new technology than Andy--invests 4 person-hours to get The Awesome HP Printer set up so Andy can just send a fracking e-mail to it with attachments that the Awesome HP Printer apparently has the intelligence to print. Finally, lets assume that after almost 24 hours of blissful ePrinting, tragedy stricks--the printer runs out of paper, causing several ePrint requests to be stuck in The Awesome HP Printer's Print Queue. An unfortunate by-product of this is that Andy will never be able to print a file again until he can find and clear The Awesome HP Printer's Print Queue. Andy assumes Dawn would know the secret non-obvious or intuitive 5-step process to access and clear the print queue, but it is 4:00am and Dawn is asleep. Andy figures that surely, if he physically walks down to the basement to The Awesome HP Printer, said printer would have already figured out that it's Print Queue was stalled and so would be displaying on its iTouchScreen a bright flashing button labeled "Press this to clear my stalled print queue". Andy was sadly mistaken, and after 10 minutes trying to find the print queue via the not particularly helpful symbol driven iTouchScreen, Andy moves on. Andy is old, but with Windows XP he would know what to do: He would go to Control Panel, select Printers and Faxes, select the printer in question, and cancel the pending print job(s) thus restoring thru printer to an operational status.
So here is my modest proposal to the awesome folks at HP:
(1) If I need to know The Obsolete Piece of Crap's operating system and IP address, The Awesome HP Printer 's IP address, my human being name, and a valid e-mail address, to perform the 8 or 10 or maybe 15 steps to set up the ePrint deal, and whomever wrote your software had to know how to actually set it up, why not have those same people have your awesome software just perform the fracking 15 steps automatically. If your programmers could write the 5 page instructions telling me how to set this up, they can surely automate the actual creation process. Just ask me for the unique info your software needs, then have a button that says: "We're not idiots. Press this button and we'll activate you ePrint connectivity infrastructure for you."
(2) Once either I have manually and laboriously set up the ePrint infrastructure, or, hopefully some day soon, after you implement Modest Proposal 1 and I have pressed the button that seamlessly and transparently creates said infrastructure, I now need to actually print files which are on The Obsolete Piece of Crap to The Awesome HP Printer. Also, if some impossible to predict in advance disaster should strike, say The Awesome HP Printer runs out of paper, I will need to be able to find and clear the it's print queue. So, since your people wrote the very convoluted and not at all trivial Help instructions to tell me the many steps needed to perform the equivalent of pressing the Print command and the Show Print Queue command in Windows XP, how about having those same people automate the actual creation process to build two widgets that I can download to my desktop, namely ePrint Print and Show ePrint Queue. Just use the unique info your software already has from Step 1 above, then have a button that says: "We're fracking smart and helpful. Press this button and we'll create two widgets you can download to your desktop,so using your ePrint connectivity infrastructure will be at least as seamless and easy and intuitive to use as it is for you know in Windows XP."
I'm not sure why the Indian nationals you're paying half what you once paid me haven't already proposed these modest proposals--it's probably a cultural thing. (Actually I have pretty good idea way, but I digress.) At any rate, I have given you a new vision for how you might greatly improve ePrint. Actually, my modest proposal is not that original. Steve Jobs understood the importance of elegance and ease of use in designing technology. That's why my son and his wife were able to set up their HP printer--which by the way is pretty awesome--by simply plugging it in and turning it and their Apple computers on.
This question was solved.

A Modest Proposal (II) - Second Try
Itu2019s a slow day on the forum (I guess our American colleagues are still asleep after Thanksgiving turkey).
So I began to think. It has always seemed to me that one of the main problems with SAP is the total lack of Haiku in all its elements. (Windows has Haiku - http://www.crisbrady.net/WinHaiku.html). Using Haiku in SAP to explain errors would be certain to relieve stress in users.
For example instead of:
What happened?
Error in the ABAP Application Program
Why not:
Autumn is gloomy.
Wistfully you open SAP.
The program has dumped.
In the forums, instead of:
Search the forum before posting such a question.
Maybe this would be better:
Why use an index?
Your question was answered

This may help a bit:

A major obstacle facing widespread Linux adoption... And a proposal.
Updates.
No, this isn't a troll. Or a joke.
Some of you might know of the Linux Haters blog. I'm not sure who the author is, but he clearly has even less of a life than us Linux enthusiasts, given the amount of time his spends bashing both Linux and its users. However, I've seen him make one valid point, and that's this: on Linux, you can't update an application without updating the whole OS. And though there are clearly exceptions, for the most part that's true; if you keep updating one app but avoid library updates, the app will eventually break.
This doesn't happen on Windows, because apps on that platform are either shipped with their shared libraries in a nice installer, or compiled statically.
To expand on what I'm saying: backwards compatibility on Windows is fantastic. Nothing ever needs to be recompiled against a new library, because all the libraries that matter are shipped with the apps that need them or compiled into the EXEs. You can install the same Firefox package on Windows 7 or Windows 2000. When an OS stops being supported, you don't have to upgrade everything for a while, especially if you know what you're doing on the security end of things. (Think of the limited account and SRP setup I mentioned in another thread.)
On Linux, not so much. You have to update all the damn time. Not only is this confusing and scary for new users, and not only does it run the risk of breaking things, it eats up time and bandwidth - both especially if the $50 a month broadband you're paying for decides not to be so broad. (glares at ISP)
Now, Arch is a pretty specialized OS; it stays on the bleeding edge, so tons of updates are okay for it. But for Ubuntu and such... Oy. And new releases every six months, with support only lasting a year and a half to three years! Windows XP will have had eleven years of support by the time it dies!
Maybe this works for servers; I don't know, I've never administered a server. For desktops, it's a pain in the ass.
Now this is not to say that Linux is bad... Actually it has some huge advantages over Windows IMO, and being free is near the bottom of the list. For those advantages, I can put up with its annoyances. But I think that, for a lot of people, the need for constant bandwidth-hogging updates and the lack of backwards compatibility would be deal killers.
So I'm going to float a modest proposal for a desktop distribution design...
The core system (X included) is put in a bunch of big archives, with an advanced install option to select which ones instead of all of them. The core system stays static. In the event that an awful security bug is discovered and fixed, new install images are released, and new archives are made downloadable (they can just be tar -xjvpf'ed into the root directory).
(The exception would be kernel archives, for which new versions would be made available every few kernel releases. These updates would be purely optional, and could coexist side by side with the old versions.)
Packages for various extra applications would also be available. Packages would be installed to /usr/local to separate them from system stuff, and only updated in the event of major bugs. If you wanted to install the latest version of something, you could get their third-party package.
Actual package management would have dependency resolution, but use a tar.gz or tar.bz2 format...
If this all sounds familiar, that's because it's basically BSD, just with some tweaks to make it work for a Linux distro. Why it's never been done before I have absolutely no idea. I mean, pkgsrc is available for Linux, yet there are only 3 distros that have ever used it, one developing slowly and two quite dead.
Maybe I'll make a project of this idea when I have the time. Though "when I have the time" will probably be when Linux and Windows are both considered horribly obsolete. Nonetheless, I figured I might as well mention this idea and the reasons for it, and see what people think.
[/nerdy monolog]
Last edited by Gullible Jones (2010-08-16 03:32:28)Actually I think your proposal sounds a bit like the approach the chakra folks are using for their independent distro. I've gone back to the vanilla arch KDE, so I haven't been following the progress, but my impression was that they'd try to keep a stable core system (though it might be more like other distro's release schedule than the longer term stability you want), keep the KDE stuff updated with the new releases, and anything else was going into self-contained bundles (similar to the way programs for Mac are distributed).
That said, I've never really seen much of a problem with keeping everything updated, though I'll admit that is one of the appeals of Arch for me and may not be representative as a whole. But I'm with bangkok_manouel, that my impression is a lot of distros that this would be be an issue for deal with it by making the updates go on without needing interaction (I'd disagree with calling it transparent, I'd see it as the opposite of transparent). The problem with that is if something goes wrong it's hard to know why.
The main problem I see in your proposal is with this paragraph:
Packages for various extra applications would also be available. Packages would be installed to /usr/local to separate them from system stuff, and only updated in the event of major bugs. If you wanted to install the latest version of something, you could get their third-party package.
I think one of the advantages of the linux package distribution model is that all software is dealt with all together through the same system. I find it much simpler than having go to websites to download things if I want a new version.

I am having trouble with iFS accepting instances with attributes of arbitrary length. In the example instances below, I would like the COVER attribute to contain data of any length. In this case, I have tried to achieve this be omitting the Datalength tag from the attribute in the type definition. In the valid instance below, the <COVER> tag holds the maximum number of characters allowable. In the invalid instance, the <COVER> tag is over the allowable character length, so the following error displays:

My question is this: How do I indicate in the doc type definition that I do not want length constraints put on an attribute string?

</PROPTYPELITE1>Thanks, Mark. As you may already know, ArborText has released an authoring tool called Epic that works in tandem with iFS. Epic is geared for creating large, usually technical, documents. It would seem that the limit to the max String length would pose a serious problem for such a system, especially if large, flat-structured paragraphs are involved.
As you have noted, only one Content tag may be used per instance, so this is not a viable option for large documents. Do you have any thoughts as to how Arbortext has, apparently, gotten around this max length limit? Or more to the point, how can I?

Dunning Proposal - Accounting Text from vendor Master
Hi,
In F150, if you click on the change button, it will take you to Dunning proposal and on the selection screen, you have a check point Check Account long text and Check Document Long Text..
1. What is the difference between the two?
2. When you execute this Dunning Proposal, again you get a button for Change Texts, from where the texts can be maintained for each Vendor.. The requirement is to have the text displayed in the output report of Dunning Proposal against each vendor.. How is that possible? I changed Variant to bring in the field Text but it shows blank.

Service Desk Unable to set status to Customer Action and Proposed Solution
Hi Everyone,
We are unable to set a service desk issue to the status Customer Action or Proposed solution.
I have someone create a new issue in the bakend system and when I receive the issue I assign it to myself as the processor. When I try to set teh status to Customer action it is grayed out.
I have checked the following:
1. As a test I assigned My user with sap_all profile so does not appear to be authroisation related
2. The status profile has all six standard values (New, customer action, In Process, Sent to SAP, Proposed Solution, Confirmed).
3. The transaction types have been defined using the standard profiles for Text Det. Procedure, Partnet Determination Procedure, Status Profile. The Partner Function ORG is set to Sold-To-Party , The date profile is a SRV_SLA_ITEM and the Action profile is set to SLFN0001_ADVANCED. The Org Data Prof is set to a customer defined one: ZSSC000000001.
4. I have checked transaction ppoma_crm and the org structure and my user is assigned to a team lead position.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
MichaelHi Michael,
please check your status profile for the "lowest status no." and "highest status no." values of the status values as Alex mentioned!
You can find this in SPRO under "SAP Solution Manager> Scenario-Specific Settings>Service Desk>Service Desk>Status Profile".
If the "high" value of the status "New" is lower than the status number of status "Customer Action" than you can not set the message from "New" to "Customer Action"!
Hope this helps,

Google Summer of Code proposal
Hi all,
Gephi organization, open-source graph visualization plaform is looking for students application about a Shader-based visualization engine.
You may already know how Google SoC works, basically a student will receive payment (*5000$*) for working on a mentoring open-source projects.
Some facts:
- We are Java and JOGL
- Our current visualization engine is compatible OpenGL 1.5 and can already draw hundred thousand elements at least.
- We use Octree, LOD and culling
[Quick demonstration video|http://vimeo.com/9726202]
*Short version of the [Shader Engine Proposal|http://wiki.gephi.org/index.php/Google_Summer_Of_Code_2010#Shader_Engine]:*
The aim is to create a basic 3D engine using suggested technologies and use it for drawing as many nodes and edges as possible. Moreover the engine should guarantee the possibility to add an interaction layer to develop the network exploration.
Existing Gephi 3D engine is intended to be used with as much hardware as possible and thus doesn’t profit from GPU so much. The particularity of a network visualization 3D engine is the need to draw a huge amount of very basic shapes (sphere or cube for nodes and lines for edges). For a traditional "direct" engine, drawing millions of objects, even if it is the same object costs millions of loop iterations and CPU-to-GPU transfers. When using shaders, graphics are directly processed by the GPU and therefore speed-up rendering.
We suggest this draft roadmap:
Get started with loading and executing vertex and fragment shaders within a JOGL routine in a sample application.
Code impostors for nodes, work on sphere appearance with ambient occlusion technique. The molecular visualization can be a great source of inspiration.
Code basic geometry and camera positioning to allow displacement and zoom.
Build the architecture to manage node updates (position update, select, color, size).
Try to draw edges with GPU.
Propose nice post-processing effects. Try to make a glow effect around spheres.

Effect of manually created proposal on MRP Run
if there is any proposal which might have been created by the user manually & not via MRP run, does it have effect on the results of MRP.
will the system ignores the requirement as it has been covered already via manually created proposal.Dear Geetika,
if there is any proposal which might have been created by the user manually & not via MRP run,
does it have effect on the results of MRP.
Yes definitely it have effect on MRP
MRP checks All Firmed Receipts & creates procurement proposals
will the system ignores the requirement as it has been covered already via manually created proposal.
Say for example demand is there for material as 50 PCS
Now manually user created Production order for that 50 pcs
Now if run MRP than system will not create any plan order as already Production order consists for 50 pcs
Again we have add demand for the same as for another 50 pcs
so now total demand became for that material is 100pcs
Now Run MRP system will create plan order for 50 pcs
As we have already 50 pcs of production order which is created manually
Hope the above clarifies

Sticky proposal: Logic Pro (first draft)
Ok, here's a first draft of the proposed sticky for this forum. After looking at what we had, I decided to basically do it in four parts - introductory stuff (please post version numbers etc), problem solvers, tips, and audio general stuff.
I'm not making this a work of art, but value feedback in order to make this useful before we ask the mods for a sticky. It's not complete, such a task is a much bigger job, but it's a start. What's not there? What's confusing? Is it too much stuff? Too newbie unfriendly?
When we are happy I will probably style/format it a little better as well.
Lemme know - cheers,
This is a compilation of Logic tips, useful threads and information for Logic Pro users, compiled mostly by Eriksimon (thanks!) with additional contributions from Bee Jay and (final forum member list to be completed)
- Getting the best help from the Apple Logic Pro Discussions
This forum is intended to be a user-to-user support form to users of Logic Pro.
Please keep your posts on the topic of Logic Pro, or you risk your post being removed for being off-topic. There are plenty of other general audio and recording forums better suited for asking general audio questions.
Questions about third-party software and hardware are welcome as long as they relate directly to using these products in conjunction with Logic.
This forum is dedicated to the post-Apple versions of Logic, which means questions for Logic Pro 7, Logic Pro 8, and Logic Pro 9 are welcome. However, please include the version of Logic you are using, in order to give useful advice (as things change between versions.) Better still, put your Logic versions and system information in your signature, to save having to ask for it.
If you are a user of Logic Express, you should post in the Logic Express forum, rather than the Logic Pro forum, in order to get advice suited to your particular software version (as some things are different between Logic Express and Logic Pro).
Remember that many questions, especially if you are new to Logic, have been asked multiple times before, so it's good practice to use the Discussions Search feature in the top right of the page to search for previous discussions relating to your issue. You will find a wealth of information. Often you can find a solution to your question without needing to post and have someone type out a response they've already typed out hundreds of times before - or worse yet, have your question ignored.
Please be respectful of the members on the board at all times - we are happy to help people out, but do so in our own free time and don't have a duty to do so.
Posts discussing non-Logic related items, off-topic or controversial subjects, abusive posts and harsh language are not welcome and will likely be removed, as will posts discussing illegal software. Please read the Terms of Use of this board for more info at:
This post is a user-contributed compilation of links to content on this forum, official Apple documentation, and occasionally some other outside content where useful to Logic users. Remember that many questions, especially if you are new to Logic, have been asked multiple times before, so it's good practice to use the Discussions Search feature in the top right of the page to search for previous discussions relating to your issue.
The search still doesn't work, for anything pre-Snow Leopard... maybe you should omit this tip until it works again...

Okay, here I marked some of the links because at the time it was not clear if they adress things that are still actual in L9.
It may be a good idea to name the topics that apply to all Logics' (7, 8 and 9) simply Logic Pro (or leave 'm nameless), and the others after the specific version they apply to. The topics with a (9?) behind it, have still to be confirmed to also apply to L9 (.0.2)

F110, reset the payment run back to payment proposal automatically.
Hi,
When payment run is carried out, some line items are being paid and others are not.The line items that are not getting paid canu2019t be selected just for the next payment run because they are already proposed for this specific but stuck payment run und canu2019t be deselected anymore. Means, the stuck payment run canu2019t be started another time, the selected not paid items canu2019t be deselected. So what are you going to do with the items that are stuck in the payment run? You canu2019t deselect them, you canu2019t pay them, you canu2019t clear the vendor open items.
Right now the solution is very manually and therefore very time intense and therefore the user is asking for a solution to automatically set back the payment run to a payment u2018proposalu2019. From this starting point we can deselect vendor line items and can run the same payment run again or delete the not paid vendor line items in the stuck payment run and transfer them to a new payment run.
Can anybody provide me a solution.
Thanks,
VardhanDear Vardhan,
Your query is not very clear. Nevertheless, i would try to explain as per my understanding.
If some items are not paid in one Payment Run, then all such items will be under exception list. You have to check the exception list for the reason as to why those weren't paid. Once you know the reason of non-payment, you can go further.
I hope this answers your query, as far as my understanding goes.
Thank you.

Payment Proposal F110 for vendors
Dear experts,
Here is my requirement. A batch job should be scheduled to create a payment proposal. As soon as a proposal created, it should be routed to an approver via workflow to view the proposal and proceed further to run the payments.
We have about 20 company codes and only one company will be making a payment from only one bank account. We have about 4 different payment methods and few invoice document types. My questions are
is it best practice to schedule a payment proposal via a batch job?? i have seen people running the proposal manually..
1) Are there any standard workflows or user exits available to trigger when a proposal is created
2) What will be the best practice to give a logic to trigger a workflow? When we create a proposal, table REGUH will be updated for each payment document. So, if I ask workflow to look in reguh table for all payment runs on today's date and create a work item for all of the line item?
3) The reviewer will have only display access to the proposal once they click on work item in the workflow. So they would hit the display proposal icon to view the details.
3) I have only worked with four company codes based off four different countries. but, in this scenario we have sereral company codes for one country. what is the best practice to schedule a proposal for all company codes and payment methods at the same time? if i do this, i will have multiple payment programs and a variant for each payment program. I'm concerned about producing DME and postive pay file at single shot.. or by company code and payment method, if I do this the reviewer have to look at the proposal by payment method
4)I'm unable to run proposal without entering vendor numbers parameters screen AND additional log screen. How can I bypass this and jsut run for all vendor in those comopany codes? I have documen type in free selection. If I don't give vendor number in either of these two places, I will get a message that no accounts have been selected yet.
Please helpHi,
Please check transaction : F110S
Here you have various options to schedule the proposal and payment with different comapny codes and payment methods.
Please read the program documentation for further processing.

F110 - Customer is contained in proposal 06/20/2014 DAFT1 no editing
Hello SAP Experts
I have 2 set of invoices with 2 different due dates Aug/15/2014 and AUG/20/2014
I have executed APP for a set of due date Aug/15/2014 on and before, now the process is at proposal stage and waiting for release the payment run.
Now I need to execute another proposal Run with Due date AUG/20/2014 without deleting earlier one
When I execute the new proposal with due date AUG/20/2014 I am getting the below error.
Customer 4000195 1100 is contained in proposal 08/15/2014 DAFT1; no editing FZ 348
My Study:-
· We should not able to execute multiple proposals at the same time with one customer (Until unless it’s payment done)
· When we execute the proposal customer/vendor should lock for another proposal. It will save in table REGUS
NOTE:- I have implemented notification process to customer, when I have edit and save the proposal notification should trigger to customer email id. If I delete and re-process the proposal again the earlier invoices also include to new notification which business want to avoid duplicate notification.
Could you any one please give your valuable inputs on this scenario?
Thanks & Regards
SrinivasHello Srinu,
Please delete that proposal in August 15th pyt run and please give the parameters as shown in free selection tab of F110. If you have few invoices then please mention those invoice numbers in free selection tab in F110. Please check the same in the below screenshot.
Also please check which date you have mentioned in the next payment run date in August 15th run. Please mention the next pyt run as august 20th. Now you can do the payment proposal again in first pyt run and then it would not pick that 2nd invoice which is due on august 20th in your current pyt run.
or
You just block (by giving as * ) the august 20th due invoice in the current payment proposal by editing the same in APP. And the same august 20th invoice will pick in the next run automatically
I hope it resolves your issue else revert us if you stil face any issues
Thanks & Regards,

Hi
Have situation while run the APP system givning soem errors in the proposal like:
Error Discription
003 Item is blocked for payment
006 No valid paymnet method found
016 Payment methods for this run are not specified in master record or in item
For 003 I'm clear blocked for paymnet i can see in the line item level..
Coming to 006 paymnet method vendor have check'C" and in run also i have specified 'C' for few vendors it's showing them to this error.
016-Payment method is T=Tele Transfer, we have two Vendors like this, in APP run time haven't specified the T method under parameter. one Vendor is never shown in the proposal list and another Vendor shown into Proposal list with this error, how come this possible to this plz.
Coud any body through some light on this..
Thanks & Regards Points are avail.
VyasHi,
- 003 -> i suppose is clear
- 006 ->Check the customizng in FBZP - Payment Method in Country. Check for the tab Required Master Record Specifications. What all is checked (Street, PO, Bank Details etc.,) needs to be maintained in relevant vendor master records. if its not maintained, system often gives error no valid payment method found.
- 016 -> check the vendor master record, company code segment, payment transactions tab. you need to specify T in the payment method.

F110-Enhancement: User want to reran the same proposal after delete
Hi guys
It would be great if ane one having answers.
User want to rerun the same proposal when he likes to update the exchage rate after the payment proposal made .For this, he will delete the proposal and reran the same proposal.
This is for only Customers and not for Vendors as F110 itself taking care of vendors.
Here the requirment is when he reran the same proposal he checks new proposal documents with the documents existed in ZTABLE earlier(needs to be crated z table for entries RUN DATE,IDENTIFICATIN,ALL DOCUMENTS belongs to each proposal ). if all documents are same then no issue ..payment ran takes place and then delete those documents from ZTABLE.if not same, for those documents payment should be blocked(
i.e any new documents created first propal and reran proposal those new documents shold be blocked) and then delete those documents from ZTABLE too.
I found one BADI: FI_F110_SCHEDULE_JOB which is triggering before proposal made.
its having one structure F110V having only contains one vendor(lower limit of vendors) and only one customer ( lower limit of customers) so here i could not get all the vendors and all customers but i can get all open doucments from table BSID and BSIK .
it can be used to some extent but anyway useless.
BTE: 1860.
this can be used but user has to click the line item of the proposal run.if suppose there are more documents , it is also useless.
Another BTE:2040,2060
I can use these BTEs to delete those documents stoed in ZTABLE after payment made.
kindly suggest me if anybody have any idea on this enhancement.
Thanks
BabuHi,
When delete event is fired, in PFR capture the selected tab details
tabBean.getSelectedIndex(pageContext);
store it in session
then
forward it to warning/dialog page
post the warning page results to calling page
in the process form request of calling page capture the event
use
tabBean.setSelectedIndex(pageContext,value)
value get it from session
