A music bed question and a transition quality question about imovie..

I've made a slideshow on imovie.... all pics, no moving video... I noticed some of the (.29) sec dissolves between photos look a little pixelate and raggy.. not all, though... can I correct this? Ken burns effect is on on most photos, is this what is causing this?
Also, I wanted to precisely edit down a music bed, time wise I am perfect, what is killing the edit is the one second crossfade between the cuts that I am putting together..... is their any way I can turn this off?
Thanks in advance!

all effects, audio and grafical elements of iLife are 'free', even for commercial use.
digg deep at apple.com/legal to find the official justiciable phrase
crediting Apple would be a polite gesture.. in my standards

  • I have a question about iMovie?

I have a quick question about Imovie and I hope someone can please please please give me an answer, I want to hear lol. Is there any way i can get more transitions or titles on Imovie? or would I need to invest in photoshop or something that would give me more of a variety, because I use power point sometimes to jazz up my videos; but I can't convert powerpoint transitions into Imovie. so thats why i am curious. I look on youtube and some of these people transitions and stuff is a little more advanced than what imovie have so i am sure theres something out there. I just dont know what.
Please help. Thank You in advance.

You can add transitions using iMovie > iMovie '11: Add transitions between video clips

  • Quick question about iMovie

I have a question about iMovie. I've used Final Cut Pro before using iMovie, and FCP allowed the user to play two video/images on top of each other. You could play with the opacity and the duration very easily.
I'm wondering, can you do the same thing with iMovie? I'll be VERY disappointed if you can't do it.

    Hi
And You could take a look at the plug-ins to iMovie.
    - Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    - GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    - cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    and possibly more.
QT-pro can do this as said above - but You need to be very precise.
But I would do this in FCP and then export as QT.mov to do the rest in iMovie
    if necessary.

  • Question about iMovie to iDVD

Hello, looking for some advice....In the past (iMovie 06) once I was finished a iMovie project I would just drag the project icon into iDVD and it would show up (and render in the background) , I set everything up the way I wanted and then burned the dvd.NO probelms and quick and very nice quality. Now in 09, I am not able to drag my project file into iDVD because it says it is not prepared for sharing.??? It seems that there are more steps than before to burn a dvd and it also seems to take longer? There seems to be a couple of options like "share to iDVD and also export to Quick time or movies. I am not sure on what would be the best way for optimal quality...that is what I am looking for, the best quality end product. Can anyone please enlighten me on this??? please.....Thank you so much!!!

this is correct, due to differences, how the the diff. iM versiosn handled projects. in iMHD≤6, inside the project-pkg, you'd find a 'complete' ref.mov of your movie... which iDVD is able to import and process. in iM09, there's no such 'complete' movie BEFORE you 'share'...
my personal tests with HiDef sources didn't noticed any main quality-issues between the diff. options, share to iDVD, share to MediaBrowser (with diff. settings).. share2iDVD is for me unknown reasons fastest..
keep in mind, a DVD has 'only' Standard res, NTSC/PAL ...

  • Question about IMovie and Disk Space

Does iMovie have a cache or somewhere that it keeps stray files? I've noticed that sometimes when I empty the trash, I don't get my disk space back. I'm not quite sure why. I also read somewhere on these boards that iDVD uses double the size of your project in order to burn your movie. Do you get that space back or is there something I need to clean off from that. I bought an 80G MacBook 2 weeks ago and it appears that even that isn't big enough for me - sheesh.
    Thanks
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   80G; 1.5M ram

    Hello Stazya,
you have encountered iMovies non-destructive editing feature. A clip is only eliminated completely from the trash when no part of it is in your timeline any longer.
Video editing requires a lot of disk space (approx. 13 GB for 1 hr of DV video), so you might want to look at an external hard drive with firewire connection for storage. The other thing is not to import hours of video at a time.
iDVD requires that you have at least 15 GB of free disk space in order to create your DVD (it needs the space for the growing Temp file). The best way to proceed is to create a disk image of your DVD instead of burning directly to disc. When the disk image has been created successfully, you can delete the iDVD project and thus regain disk space.
    hope this helps

  • Question about iMovie Sizes

How can you tell whether an iMovie project will fit on a DVD?
I have been creating an iMovie project. With only about 30 or so still pix (with Ken Burns effect and transitions) the movie in the "Get Info" window already shows up as about 2 gigs. If I use low resolution pix (KB but without transitions), the file size is still about 650 megs, and the resolution is noticeably poorer.
I plan a great many more photos and some video for my final DVD, but at this rate, I'll never make it.
What are my choices? Does iDVD import the movie at a smaller file size?

Thanks, everybody, that's helpful. My slide show will not be much over 30 - 45 minutes. If I understand you all correctly, I need not go to the trouble of shrinking my jpegs to meet size guidelines; iDVD will do that as needed.
I did see the size info under "Project Info."
The Best Performance/Best Quality choice looks like they're mixing apples and oranges, though.
If I read the iDVD materials right, Best Performance speaks not to how well the finished DVD performs but how sluggish your machine will be while you work on the project. Best Quality, by contrast, has nothing to do with the process but rather the result.
So, why wouldn't you turn on Best Performance while working, then turn on Best Quality when ready to burn? I know that also means burning the disk may take longer, but after all that work, it seems like a small price.

  • Newbie question about iMovie 6

I am just needing some feedback to see if I'm doing everything correctly regarding making a movie and burning a DVD-R.
Using my DV camcorder I capture the video into an iMovie project. Actually I captured two different physical tapes into 1 project.
Next I grabbed the various clips, cropped as appropriate, used transitions, etc. and once I had all the pieces ready I created a new iMovie project that only contained these pieces. Then I went back to the original project (from the video capture) and did the same thing again with additional clips and when done created a second new iMovie project containing the second set of clip, transitions, etc.
The whole intent was for each new iMovie project that was created to become a Menu button on the DVD main menu.
When I was done with two new iMovie projects I went into iDVD, picked a theme, and put each movie into a separate "drop area". The result was a DVD menu with two selectable items each containing a separate video clip to watch.
Can I create everything, including the DVD menus, in iMovie and just use iDVD to create the image itself? I want to make the most efficient use of my time and the various utilites available.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

No, you can't create the DVD menus in iMovie ..only in iDVD.
iMovie is only a video-editing program, and can't create the branching menus - in which one thing leads to various other different things - which can be made with a DVD-authoring program.
You can certainly organise all the various video clips which comprise a movie (..or which you want to use on an iDVD 'button' or in an iDVD 'image well'..) in iMovie: that's what it's for ..for organising video and audio clips.
But a hierarchical menu-construction capability is only available in a DVD-preparation program such as iDVD (..or DVD Studio Pro).
You can't edit audio and video clips in iDVD - that's what iMovie does.
You can't organise hierarchical menus in iMovie - that's what iDVD does.
In summary; you're doing everything right!

  • Simple Question about iMovie

Okay PLEASE don't laugh at me for asking this... I should know the answer but I am not super Mac friendly... haha.
Can I edit mpeg in iMovie? Do I just import them? I have only ever unloaded off a DV cam. My boyfriend needs something edited for work (T-Mobile???) no idea what it is, and was going to use my PC and I was like what did I buy a Mac for then? So before I go to all the trouble of taking the computer to his house I just want to know if they will work!
    Thanks!

    Courtnie:
You need iMovie HD for MPEG-4 video. Here is the information from the iMovie HD Help files.
MPEG-4 video cameras may not have a FireWire connection, but have a USB connection. To transfer the video from and MPEG-4 device to your computer, connect the device to your computer using a USB cable. Your MPEG-4 camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can open the hard disk icon and drag the video footage into your iMovie HD project or to your desktop for importing later.
You can create movies and import video in many different kinds of video and audio formats. iMovie HD supports importing video in common formats, such as standard definition and wide screen formats (NTSC and PAL), high definition formats (HDV 720p and 1080i), MPEG-4, and clips from Apple's iSight camera. Audio files must be in AIFF format or another format that works with QuickTime.
When importing footage from an MPEG-4 device, your video is imported as a single clip into your project; iMovie HD does not break it up into cllps automatically. You cannot use the capture controls to import your video or control your camera. You cannot use the Make a Magic iMovie feature to import video automatically from an MPEG-4 camera connected by a USB cable.
    Hope this helps.

  • Question about iMovie for iPhone 4

I have about 60 pics I would like to put together in a project. Is there anyway to select multiple pics at one time or do I have to select one at a time?

the good thing is, is that you don't have to add them all at once, add 20 take a break and come back later to add more.

  • Question about imovie

I imported 2 60 minute movies from my camcorder to one project. When I switched from import to the little scissor on the bottom. I think something about framing or something. Anyway, a notice came up said this could be awhile. 2 hours later, it was still doing this. I thought the program hung up so I did a force quit. Rebooted the 24 inch iMac and loaded iMovie. The clips were moved to a trash within iMovie. I dragged them back but they have a little x on them. Can I still use these clips or do I need to tranfer them again to the mac?
    thanks

'Awhile' is right! iMovie doesn't like you doing that. The trick is to save the project before you switch from import to edit, then it won't happen. I will rephrase that in case I am being too categorical: when I do it that way, it doesn't happen to me anymore!
You were right to force quit (life's too short!). The clips recovered from iMovie's own trash should be OK, but I am assuming that we are not talking about two 60 minute clips?
I would recommend that you save the project after every time you have changed something in it.

  • Silly question about iMovie 06 after the 08 install

    Greetings,
I am still lukewarm about the new version of iMovie. It took about 26 minutes to reorganize ll my camera clips from iPhoto into the library and then proceeded to date them the year 1903. They are all listed on top now even though lmost recent clip box is checked?
Either way... I noticed that it saved my iMovie HD 06 and placed it inside a new folder called iMovice 06 older (or something like that. I don't like it inside a folder. Can I rename the application and call it "iMovie 06" and drag the app out of that folder and still use it?
    //Cheers

"Can I rename the application and call it "iMovie 06" and drag the app out of that folder and still use it?" - Simple answer is yes. An easier solution would be to leave it where it is and add it to the dock. The icon is different that the new 08 iMovie, so I just put it next to the new iMovie in the dock.

  • Two Questions about iMovie 08

I have two questions that I know someone on here has an answer to.
    1. Is the JVC Everio GZ-HD3 High Definition camera compatible with it?
    2. How come I am unable to add titles over a clip or picture in iMovie 08?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never mind, I answered both questions.

  • Where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?

I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this issue or not: Does anyone else feel like, after searching for specific songs, there's just little to nothing in the database? I feel like most of my searches are pointless because iTunes has either no data of my requested search and/or only has bits and pieces of it.
Another question I have: After having a slightly successful search, why am I left with low quality tunes? I mean, you can hear the compression... badly. (I know it's not my speakers)
Last question: If I'm paying for the song, shouldn't I be allowed to download a universal file? iTunes uses a unique format that no other application uses. In other words, more money has to be spend for m4a to mp3 converters (unless you're a cracker [not a racial comment]).
To me, I value iTunes and its team, so I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I understand there are contracts involved with the artists and it's hard to please ALL of the subscribers. But seriously, where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?
Custom   Windows XP Pro   Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

Today I thought of finally putting lyrics on my songs. So I've been quite some time busy doing that, then I tried it on my iPad (2) and I can't find them. Just as the people above say. Then I went to search where I can find them and I found this page. I'm really dissapointed and I don't understand how something like this could happen. So I hope Apple will fix this soon.
(I'm just posting this so that Apple will do something about it)

  • This is a weird start to my question; but i went to a music festival today and I was in a mosh pit and it was hot, and my iPhone 4 turned off and I was wondering weather it was from the heat or something else? And what I could do to fix it? Thankyou :)
