A network cable is NOT unplugged, need help

So my internet appears to be working fine but yesterday I was playing a game (world of warcraft) and my latency jumped from the normal 200ms to about 800ms. It appears to be jumping back and forth 200 to 800 but I can't tell for sure.
I closed the game and checked my wireless signal, its 100%. Then I noticed an icon that said "A network cable is unplugged", im pretty sure that wasn't there before. So I checked my cables, nothing is unplugged or plugged in the wrong place. When you click it it says my LAN is disconnected and my Wireless LAN is connected. I don't know if thats important cause my internet is working fine its just when I need steady connection like games.
So that's the story, heres the 3 explanations I can think of, just tell me which one you think is right or if you know another possible problem.
1. I noticed the ethernet light on my modem (goes from modem to wireless router) was blinking, I don't know if its suppose to blink but the phone and power light are solid. So I took the ethernet that goes from router to computer and switched it with the "broken" one. The light stayed solid with the new cable. But the weird thing is the light that I put the "broken" cable in was staying solid too.
Maybe I should buy a new ethernet cable for the one I think is broken? I don't know how it would just magically stop working one day though.
2. My phone line that goes from wall to modem runs across a doorway. We trip on it often. Maybe the insides are all torn apart. But wouldn't the phone light be blinking instead of that ethernet light?
3. I bought an iphone the other week and I was having troubles getting the wifi to work at home. I fiddled with some network settings on my computer but im almost positive I set them all back to normal when I figured out I was just using the wrong password. In the chance I didn't get the settings back exactly I don't think it would say "network cable unplugged". And I believe I've used my internet a few days after all this happened.

same problem here for the most part. WoW recently dc lag issues but sometimes im still connected to the web and sometimes not. im currently set to Media Options: Full Duplex Media Subtype: 100baseTX. Should i try going Half Duplex and 10baseTX? Im currently using etherent and NOT wireless. Doesnt make a difference tho.

  • Time Capsule not working - need help

    Hi guys,
I just bought a Time Capsule to replace my Linksys E2000. The E2000 was running fine but I wanted a wireless external HD, which the Time Capsule provided.
So I've set the Time Capsule up with all the same settings for my ISP, which are as follows:
    IP address: 121.73.247.68
    subnet 255.0.0.0
    gateway 121.73.247.1
    dns 203.97.78.43
    203.97.78.44
After doing all the setup and plugging the ISP internet cable into the WAN port, the Time Capsule light went green.
The problem is I have no internet connection!
I can ping the router (10.0.1.1) but that's it. No DNS server response and no web access. I've fiddled around with the settings for ages and have run out of ideas.
I'm kind of annoyed with Apple - this has definitely not 'just worked'.
As soon as I plug back in my E2000, everything works fine. So I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with my ISP or the cable modem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I found another post on this site (can't locate it now though), but someone else had the same problem and I did something similar to him and I finally got my TC and modem to work together.  I unplugged the power and cable from the modem for about 20 minutes total.  During this time the TC was still powered and plugged in to the modem.  Then before I powered the modem, I unplugged the power for the TC for about 5 minutes, plugged power to TC back, then connected cable on modem followed by power to modem.  It miracously worked after that, I didn't even have to change any settings through AirPort for the TC.
I have NO clue why this particular sequence of events worked, but I know I did all of those steps (maybe not in that particular order) and had been unsuccessful.
The post I read earlier used the following steps - Keep the TC connected to the modem the entire time, unplug power for the TC for 5 minutes, then plug power to TC back.  Unplug power & cable from modem (can't remember if he left it unplugged for a specific time), then connect cable & power for modem.
The only reason I left my modem disconnected for 20 minutes was because I had read it takes varying amounts of time for the modem to reset.  I don't have a reset button on my modem so that wasn't an option for me and calling the ISP to reset my modem didn't work either - I did that twice on Saturday with no success, but I don't remember if I had the TC still connected?  I tried so many different things over the last 48 hours, but all I know is the steps above worked for me.
Hope it helps you as well.

  • 4s screen not working need help

    HELP!
I dropped my phone on its back last night and now the screen does not turn on. there is no physical damage to the exterior. I can still text and recive calls, functions are all normal I just can not see what I am doing. Sound is fine as well I can switch from vibrate to loud I can adjust volume. My screen just stays dark. I think I might cave dissconnected the LCD cable or something. If that is the case I dont know where that cable is.
If you think there is some other issue please let me know. If you can provide a picture or diagram of where that LCD cable is that would be great so I can go in and re-connect it. thanks

You wouldn't need to see the screen to backup unless you have a passcode on the device. Is that the case? You should be able to plug the device into the computer with iTunes and just select backup now.

  • AC Adapter suddenly not working, need help.

I have a similar problem. I live in a house with my parents. My mother has the 4th gen 20GB iPod (no color screen) and I have the 5th Gen 80GB Video iPod. She has iTunes on her computer on one end of the house she uses to keep her iPod updated, I have my own on the other end of the house I use to keep mine updated. We do not mix or use one another's iPod on the others computer. We both use a sepreate iPod AC charger when not in use to keep the iPods charged.
The last two days I have noticed when I plug in my iPod (80Gb Video) to charge with the AC adapter, it does nothing. No show that it is receiving any power. Same with my mothers iPod (20GB 4th Gen).I went to use my mothers AC adapter and the same thing, nothing. No battery icon or any show that the iPod is receiving power. When plugged into our respective computers, they update just fine, and when updating is complete, they show they are O.K. to eject, and are being charged, although very, very slowly. This is why I have always used the AC adapter to charge my iPod, and my mothers as well. This has worked as it has supposed to until the last few days. Now the only way to charge either iPod is to keep them connected via USB 2.0 to the computer or when driving, we both use a Fm charger/transmitter that plays the iPod over FM radio while charging at the same time. It is the dLo car Fm charger and transmitter I bought in 2004, and it still works without a problem. Both iPods fit in it and have worked flawlessly.
I have tried to plug my iPod into every outlet in the house, using her AC adapter on mine and vice versa to see if there is any difference. I have reset both iPod's and still get the same result. It acts as if the chargers are not even plugged in. When you plug a AC adapter into a wall socket and then your iPod, it always makes the iPod come on and show it's status. Now it does nothing. It is as if it was not even plugged in. I have no idea why this is happening. The iPods both work and play as normal when turned on, but it is as if two separate AC charges decided to do the same thing at the same exact time, which i find to be more than coincidence. We are both using iTunes 7.1.0.59 and are downloading the new iTunes 7.1.1 as I type this, hoping that this might be the problem or could fix this. I have run McAfee Virus scan on both computer, and bith are up to date and clean. McAfee does not intefere with iTunes or iPod, and has not posed any problems ever with my iPod or iTunes..
I am hoping someone has had this problem or knows what could be causing it. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you for your help,
    Brian.

You need to restore the iPod via iTunes. Try the following to get iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • System 'Failure' in Network Diagnostics- Can not print! HELP!

Up until this past Tuesday, I was able to print from Mac Mini with my HP Laserjet 1200 printer connected to my Airport.
Now I receive the following message:
Now my printer keeps pausing itself every time I try to print a document.
If I unpause it it prints a page saying "operation timed out"
Then when I click on HP Officejet -> Printer ->Network Diagnostic I see that everything is green lit with the exception of "Server" which is saying failed and I get this message:
Network Diagnostic was able to connect to the Internet, but not to the server "HP Officejet J5700 series.pdl-datastream.tcp.local.". This could be caused by problems with the server, or an Internet problem between computer and server.
I've done the unplugging Aiport and Printer, deleting and reinstalling System Preferences. I need other suggestions please.

  • Not ranting, need help instead

I love the iPad! I am using an old Linksys Wireless-B router 10/100 ethernet hub. Ethernet's great. To say that the wireless feature doesn't connect well or often would be an understatement. It's done great service otherwise for some years and I have no complaints. Wireless-B and iPad is iffy here, and I've updated the firmware, reset the router and re-entered the data. No go (or barely).
I am looking at upgrading to a Cisco/Linksys E3000, which has b/g/n 10/100/1000 capabilities. Is anyone using that model, and will it work well with a MacPro and iPad? I also have Dell and HP on this network, and I assume that will make no difference to the router, as before.
Any direction or help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rube

    Let me add a postscript:
As another poster mentioned in a different thread, hardware is a serious investment. I agree with that assessment and would not, under any circumstances, suggest that my remedy for my particular iPad is or would be the proper course of action for anyone else. It simply worked for me; but then again my wireless-b device was 6 or 7 years old and the wireless-b protocol had always been problematic, here in my house, in my area. My iPod Touch had to be within 18 inches to get any kind of decent connection. So the days were already numbered for my router device.
Once I determined, per Tamara's suggestion, that my iPad worked in a different wireless environment (my neighbor's setup, all-PC, wireless-G), it was simply a matter of upgrading my particular mixed network (PC/Apple) setup with the Linksys E3000. I probably would have upgraded anyway, at some point.
For me, that avenue worked perfectly. But it was expensive, and I already knew that the iPad would work in a foreign environment (my neighbor's setup) to which he allowed me guest access. The iPad had no problem at all, no dropped wifi, no problem walking around from room to room and maintaining a signal. My particular iPad seemed to be okay.
But that sure doesn't mean that others are not having software issues with their particular iPads. Or hardware issues. As etresoft pointed out, 99% of the devices seem to be working, or a number thereabouts. Still, I certainly understand anyone being frustrated by an Apple device that doesn't work out of the box, or an iPad operating system glitch that may or may not be be preventing them from enjoying this thing. It certainly frustrated me for a day or two.
No, indeed, I would agree that upgrading your router should have to be the last thing you do. If Apple sees an opportunity to strengthen wifi capabilities on its newest device, I for one feel certain that they will do so. I work with PC computers and Apple computers, the Microsoft OS and the Apple OS, and I have no axes to grind against any of them. I like computing. All computing. These are just new machines, that's all. What's important is what you do with them. And that is why people are frustrated. They can't get done what they need to get done or want to get done. They shouldn't have to worry about the machine, early adopters or not.
If the wifi capabilities need correcting on the iPad, I hope that Apple doesn't wait too long to find a solution, because a one to two percent failure rate IS much too high, especially if you are on the wrong end of that number.
The Linksys E3000 had Cisco software that self-configured the network that my setup needed based entirely on the settings already on my Mac Pro computer. I did not have to intervene at all. When I turned on the iPad, the wireless network was visible, I joined it, and am still connected.
Wouldn't it have been great if the iPad OS could have done the same, self-configure it's own settings based upon what setup the user already has? And if it is not a compatible system, then let the user know that? Well, apparently it did just that for 98-99% of the early adopters. That doesn't mean the other 1-2% should be castigated for having problems. For me, the problem was old hardware. But I'm sure there are folks with wireless-b that actually works well for them. My device was problematic, and needed replacing. That may not be case with other users.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the machines are broken, I'm sure Apple will be willing to replace them. If the problem is software compatibility, I'm sure Apple will get on that as well and come up with a solution. I just hope they don't wait too long. A week would be too long.
But I know do this - to those still having problems with their iPads, if you are able to get them fixed or replaced, this thing is an absolute joy. I have already loaded dozens of ePub books and am loading more. I love books, I love reading books, and I love reading books on this iPad. It is a grandly realized product, and I hope all of you get to enjoy it soon.
People have a right to complain. That's called feedback, and feedback will make the machines better for all of us, whatever those machines happen to be, made by whoever happens to make them. Right now, it's Apple's turn to get the feedback. But what a heck of a machine it's going to be.
    Just my two pennies.

  • My iPad 1 streams ABC player app to Apple TV but not consistently, need help troubleshooting.

I discovered a couple of weeks ago that the ABC Player app could be streamed from my iPad 1 to Apple TV, a pleasant surprise, but inconsistent. Last night when I tried it, no joy, just got the error message, no audio or video. However, then I tried the TNT app, and it worked perfectly (first time, another surprise), streaming both audio and video perfectly. I'm trying to figure out what I might be able to do to get the ABC app back on track. Anyone else had any success with this? I know this is not mirroring, the iPad 1 can't  do that. Any help appreciated. My settings: Apple TV turned on and connected via HDMI cable, and the iPad set to Apple TV via the task bar. Home sharing turned off. Apple TV working fine for Netflix and for mirroring from iPhone 4s.

I just checked and ABC does not work over airplay. I do have an iPad 2 but I turned off mirroring in order to use it the same way an iPad 1 user would. You are right about the link so I have provided one that is up to date.
    http://theapple.tv/apps/list-of-airplay-enabled-apps/
The error message is suspect though, as audio should still come through. I assume you've tried the basics (reboot, reset) for both devices. In regards to the video and why it worked that time, whatever the reason is due to something the developer has done.
