  • My 4355 officjet will not recognise a new black cartridge when inserted

Hey ,  Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue.  Because the troubleshooting steps provided failed to resolve this black cartridge detection issue, a new black cartridge will need to be inserted in your product to verify if the cartridge you're currently using is defective or not. If a new black cartridge resolves your issue, then the current cartridge is defective. If the current cartridge is a Genuine HP Cartridge it will have a warranty date on it and will be entitled as per the cartridge warranty to a replacement through HP.  If a new cartridge fails to resolve this issue then the printer will need to be replaced.   Please respond to this post with the result of trying a new cartridge in the printer. Best of luck!

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!I understand that your HP Officejet 4355 All-in-One Printer is prompting for the right cartridge to be installed, after you inserted new cartridges in your machine. I would like to assist you today with resolving this cartridge detection error. Thank you for including the troubleshooting steps that you have attempted prior to reaching out for support. At this time there is either a dirty cartridge contact in your machine that may be blocking your printer from detecting the new cartridge as installed. There is also a chance that the new cartridge is defective. Therefore, I am going to have you perform some standard cartridge troubleshooting steps below to isolate this issue and resolve this issue.   Step 1: Remove Cartridges:  NOTE:  If the product is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the product will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the product if the print cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove them. 1. Make sure the product is turned on. The On button is lit when the product is on. 2. Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the product.  3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on the right  print cartridge to release it. Please remove just the right (Black) cartridge. (1) Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge(2) Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges 4. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot. - Source  Step 2: Check for Packaging on Cartridge: With the cartridge removed from the printer, we are now going to check the right (Black) cartridge for any remaining packaging that may be causing cartridge detection issues.  Make sure that the plastic tape is removed from the cartridge by using the pink pull tab.   (1) Copper-colored contacts(2) Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)(3) Ink nozzles under tape NOTE:  Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.  Once the packaging has been confirmed as removed from the new cartridge, please proceed to the next step.  - Source   Step 3: Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Gather the Following Materials:  Dry foam rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that will not come apart or leave fibers. Tip: Coffee filters are lint-free and work well for cleaning print cartridges.  Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridges). Caution: Do not use platen cleaners or alcohol to clean the print cartridge contacts. These can damage the print cartridge or the HP All-in-One.  Perform the Clean:  1. Inspect the print cartridge contacts for ink and debris buildup. 2. Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and squeeze any excess water from it. 3. Hold the print cartridge by its sides. 4. Clean only the copper-colored contacts. Allow the print cartridges to dry for approximately ten minutes.   5. Leave the cartridge outside of the printer. 6. With the printer ON, disconnect the power cable from the rear of the printer 7. Examine the right cartridge slot inside of the printer. If you see debris or ink buildup please clean the cartridge slot. Allow the right slot to dry.  8. Plug the power cable back in. Your printer should start back up on its own.  Once the cartridge and slot have been cleaned, please proceed to the next step.  - Source   Step 4: Install Cartridge:  1. Slide the print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.  2. Close the print cartridge door.   Once your cartridge has been installed, please test printing to confirm that the cartridge detection issue has been resolved. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • 5520 New black cartridge won't print

Just installed a new HP 564xl black cartridge in my 5520 and it will not print anything in black? Shows that it has a full black cartridge? I've run diagnostics and cleaned and alignged and still nothing in black, only color?

Hi - A couple of things you can try.  First, follow the steps in this document - at least solution 3 since you've already replaced the cartridge.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, try following the steps, beginning with solution 3 in this document, which will walk you through resetting the printer and cleaning the contacts - even though it is a new cartridge.
    Hope that helps.

  • New black cartridge is not printing

I inserted new yellow and black cartridges yesterday. The yellow works but the black is not printing. I took it back to the store, got a new one, and it is still not printing.

I would suggest you Contact HP as described in the post here, even if your printer is no longer under warranty.
If you do not get the issue resolved by calling HP support please post back here with information on the country you are in.

  • Printer won't accept new black cartridge

laser jet 2605dn does not accept new black cartridge

There are Black cartridges and Photo (black) that are not interchangable.  Some further information that may help identifying the correct cartridge is shown here.  Your B209a does not use a Photo cartridge, you need Black.
If you Contact HP they may exchange the Photo cartridges with Black.

  • HP B210 all-in-one Photosmart Plus won't print black when new black cartridge installed!!

Ugh!! This printer is driving us insane! EVERY time we install a new black ink cartridge (HP 564) the printer decides it doesn't want to print black any more! I've tried the whole cleaning this and that they say is needed. I've aligned, reset, etc. and nothing works. What makes me mad is the printer works fine until the day we swap out the black ink. I've had this issue before but it was random luck it came back to life and we have no idea how it happened.  What can we do to fix this ANNOYI NG problem?? Thanks in advance.

By the way: after this whole conversation, suggesting the standard troubleshooting steps is RIDICULOUS.That might be true if one could assume that someone posting in the thread has already read (and tried) the posts in the thread.  My experience is that there are many folks that find a thread, perhaps through a Google search, but they do not actually read the thread but rather put their information on the end of the thread as a reply.  I see this even when there is a solution marked for the thread, the thread here is a good (or bad) example of this. For your case have you tried the standard troubleshooting steps?  Did you check the vents?  Did you try soaking the printhead as described here?  Is there any sign of black printing at all in the test page?

  • Barely used 564 color cartridges show all same low level. 564 XL black cartridge shows 3/4 full

Two months ago, I purchased and installed 564 XL Black and 3 color cartridges in my Photosmart 309a. I've printed approximately 100 black and white documents and no color documents. My black ink level is 2/3 full but the color cartridges are all showing the exact same level--just above empty. I also just installed a photo black cartridge, which is showing 1/2 full.
Black copies are great. Color copies are streaked and faded. I've contacted HP tech support on the phone and was given the same answers over and over for almost 20 minutes. After asked his supervisor to help, he quickly came back and gave me almost 10 more minutes of the same explanation as before. No answers, options or solutions--just run-around. And now, I'm out $52 without even printing a single color copy?

    Hi,
Looks like your setup is to use quality Grayscale. As you know mixing all prime colors together at a right amounts will give you millions of colors from black to white. To print BLACK INK ONLY,  please try:
    (a) Double click printer icon,
    (b) Click Set preferences
    (c) Click Advanced,
    (d) Select "Black ink only" under Grayscale
    (e) Click Apply/OK ...
Note: As mentioned in my previous reply, printer STILL needs and USES color inks during warming up process and few other processes to keep itself in good health.
    Regards.

  • Alignment hang-up after installing new black cartridge

HP 2175 - 10 years old. Black cartridge ran out and I replaced it. Did alignment as requested. Got a blank sheet of paper several times with the message "Paper Mismatch"; nothing had changed but the cartridge. Opened lid and cartridges did not come to center (now they did); still have message. Ran doctor; showed printer busy; pulled power plug, waited, plugged in, printed a sheet and then returned to "Paper Mismatch"; back to the hang-up. Any suggestions, or do I deep six it and replace?

Are you able to get any black ink to print at all or is the only error now the Paper Mismatch?  I know a reset to try but first I want to make sure it is not the ink cartridge.  Do you see any defects on it? Does it appear to be leaking or otherwise damaged?  Have you checked the exchange policy with the store you purchased the ink from?
If you can get black ink to come out, then try these next steps.  However, read this link first before trying the steps in this second link.  This step will help you determine if it is time to get rid of the printer.  Any steps followed not suggested by me cannot be held against me but I think it may help.
I really hope you get to keep the printer running longer.  Let me know what happens or if I can be of any more assistance.

  • Owned HP Photosmart Premium C310 since 2011-01-03. Installed 5 new HP cartridges. Now it won't print

We bought the HP Photosmart Premium C310 on 2011-01-03. On April 6, I had to install all 5 new HP ink cartridges. Now it won't print at all. It accepts the "Print" command, makes noises as if it is printing, pulls the paper through slowly while it "pretends" to be printing, but the page comes out with NO INK on it. I have gone through all the many, many "self-help" solutions HP offers, on the printer screen itself, through the computer desktop "HP Solution Center," and also online at HP.com. It is still in warranty, so I am thinking I should just take it back to Best Buy and tell them to repair it.  I'd really like to get it working. Any suggestions?
    Thank you,

In the link given by 007Ohmss be sure to update the firmware as described in step 4:
Step four: Install a firmware upgrade
Check for a firmware upgrade that might help solve the problem:
On the product control panel, touch the Setup icon ( ).
    Touch Web .
    Touch Product Updates .
Touch Check for Product Updates .
Touch Yes to update. The update might take 10 to 20 minutes. Do not turn off the printer until the update is complete. The printer will shut down and start back up automatically.

  • Both my HP D4360 and my HP 940C printers have brand-new HP cartridges in them and neither one print

Both my HP D4360 and my HP 940C printers have brand-new HP cartridges in them and neither one of them print correctly (half way). I made sure that the cartridges bleed out very well (on a damp paper towel until ink bleeds out) yet the characters come out very skipped, lined and in short, look terrible. Both printers should have been covered under the lawsuit against HP but I've yet to see a dime and I've been through more cartridges than I can count. With that said, I'm open to hearing any type of device short of thrilling the printer out the window of a 30 story building window because they both should work quite well. Any suggestions, ideas or what should I do next because I'm quite frustrated and the money doesn't grow on trees in my neighborhood or checking account. • New black cartridge doesn't work. I get no error messages, it simply does not print in black.

As stated above, the printer simply doesn't print in black.  It's a new cartridge.  Not my first rodeo, I've replaced that cartridge several times, so I know how to do it.  I get no error messages.  When checking the ink level, it registers as full.    What's up with that?

Hi, for the OJ 6500 try the steps in the link below...
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01641815
Failing that, if the printer is out of warranty one thing that might be worth a shot is soaking the printhead...
    1) Get a pan and put 1/2" of very hot (not boiling) water in the bottom.
    2) Next remove all the ink cartridges, then remove the printhead assembly.
    3) Gently put the printhead nozzles down in the water and let it soak for five minutes.
    4) Remove the printhead and gently dry the electrical contacts.
    5) Put the printhead back in the printer and then reinstall the ink cartridges.
