A New Mouse

This doesn't really concern FCP, although I'll be using it a lot and I assume there's plenty here who can answer my question.  I'm shopping for a new mouse. Can I get some recommendations for high quality ergonomic models that help prevent stress/injury in the hands/arms/shoulder?

Indeed not the right place for this request
If you're worried about injury through mouse use.... don't use one!!
Since I changed to a Wacom tablet, I've had no problem with RSA.... and find editing with a tablet much easier than a mouse. But I keep my (wireless) apple mouse on stand by for the odd tricky thing a tablet falls down on.

  • Can't install new mouse, ipad or ipod due to old OS X version

I have a 2008 imac 7.1 with OS X 10.4.11 and I can't install my new mouse, ipad or ipod because it requires new version of OS. Then I try to find a new update and it says I have the latest update!!! How do I get the newer OS X versions?

Intel (anything below Core2Duo) can go as high as Snow Leopard.  You need 1 GB memory.
Core2Duo can go as high as Lion, but you need 2 GB memory.
You can buy a SnowLeopard disk at Apple online Store (NOT downloadable) and just install it straight as a new install (probably better) or "force upgrade 2 steps past Leopard" on top of Tiger.
Make a VERY good backup, preferrably a bootable clone, before doing this though, as a host of things *can* go wrong (nor common, but they do happen).

  • My Magic Mouse is frequently loses power and shuts down. Is there a problem, or am I gonna have to buy a new mouse

Hey. We've had the Magic Mouse for about a year. We bought it along with our iMac, and now it's losing power really quickly or shutting down. What's up? is this commpnplace, and we have to buy a new Mouse (do I got a Deadmau5?)? Is this just our mouse, 'cause if it is, then that's good.

    Hello:
FYI, there is no such thing as a "short battery."
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
If that does not help, the mouse is probably failing.

  • How do I change mouse button behavior in firefox to make new mouse shortcuts?

    Hi,
For some time now I've wondered if it is possible to easily change the default behavior of mouse buttons in Firefox. What I'd like to do is define a new mouse button combination which replicates the function of an already-defined keyboard shortcut. In particular, currently, when one holds down the shift key while left-clicking the mouse while over a link, that link is opened in a new window. What I'd like to do is to have exactly the same behavior occur when I click and hold the left mouse button while pressing and releasing the right mouse button. This then makes opening a link in a new window a menu-less, one-handed operation.
Anyone have any ideas how this might be done? Thanks!

    Hello,
Does this addon - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mousecontrol/ meet your requirement? Also, you can check the list of mouse shortcuts here [[Use mouse shortcuts to perform common tasks in Firefox]]
    Hope this helps.

  • Prob at start up after installing new mouse

I have had this mini about 18 months. I got a new mouse by Kensington. A ball mouse. I installed the software and left the disk in and hit re start as they suggested. it shut down, but then on start up, it went nuts. the screen went black and these words typed out fast that said error DSN or something, 8 errors on DSN start up, job threatened, re-something or other then it counted down erasing each error i thought ... then the screen went dark and this line of words flashed on top, just one line, and it kept ramming this sentence over and over and finally i knew it was in a jam and i shut it off manually. now when i turn it on, i get the white screen with apple and the spinning dial ... but nothing after that. the disk is stuck in it. what can i do to get the disk out? what can i punch on it to get it past this block? what happened? is it fried?

    Hi.
It's not fried. You have directory damage.
There's no manual eject hole in the Mini.
In order to get the disk out of the drive, attach a USB mouse and hold down the mouse (if it's an Apple mouse) or hold the left button and turn the machine on, it should spit the disk.
If it's a PowerPC Mini, you can also try booting into Open Firmware (hold CommandOption+OF at startup) and type at the prompt:
eject cd (hit Enter; it will eject the CD)
Put the OS X install disk in the drive and type:
reset-all (hit Enter; it will restart the machine)
and hold C at startup to boot from your install disk. Then go to Installer/Utilities/Disk Utility and repair your startup volume.
    Good Luck.

  • New mouse.

So my not-so-mighty mouse has gone to a cheesy heaven.
I'm in the market for a new mouse. Rather than buying a straight replacement, could users give me a little feedback on their non-mighty mice?
I'm left handed, though that doesn't matter as I can use a mouse happily in either hand, usually depending on available desktop space. Any thoughts?

My mouse of choice is a Microsoft optical mouse, wired, with two-buttons and a scroll wheel that clicks down as the center click. It's this one
    [Microsoft Optical Mouse (Blue)|http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-K81-00004-Optical-Mouse-Blue/dp/B000068M P2/ref=sr141?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257513961&sr=8-41]
at the moment, but it was another similar model before. I wore out the teflon pads on the bottom of the previous Microsoft mouse, but it was otherwise still working.
It works fine with Apple's generic USB mouse driver, so I don't have any special Microsoft driver installed. One thing you cannot set with Apple's driver is the center click. However, I found that if I connect my Mighty Mouse, I get the System Preferences Mouse pane for the Mighty Mouse. And if I set the center click there, when I disconnected the Mighty Mouse, that setting stuck when using the generic Microsoft mouse. I have it set to do Exposé.
I like Microsoft's basic mice because they are sturdy, do not require special carefulness, and do not require special cleaning. They are also a bit larger and taller and feel more comfortable in terms of their shape, at least for me. The one I use is symmetrical left to right, so it makes no different which hand is using it.

  • If the batteries exploded inside my wireless mouse, do i need to buy a new mouse?  any thoughts about saving my mouse?  thank you!  nancy

if the batteries exploded inside my wireless mouse, do i need to buy a new mouse? any thoughts about saving my mouse? thank you! nancy

The chemicals or materials from inside the batteries can cause circuit
damage in the mouse, the mouse may need to be replaced. You may
have to check with the battery manufacturers customer relations to see
if they offer guarantees covering products damaged those batteries...
And those chemicals may remain as a health concern since the mouse
cannot be subjected to washing, since there are electrical parts inside.
How old is the mouse, and how old are the batteries?
Some products have a limited warranty or guaranty.
In some locations, that may be longer than in others.
Were the batteries rechargeable or disposable?
I'd consult an Apple Store and genius bar about the mouse and issues
or concerns about the cause (or blame?) of the leaking batteries, or
which way to go in that matter. I cannot suggest what else to do; we're
not Apple representatives, but in a retail Apple Store they have options.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Will I need to purchase a new mouse or pad to use the new Lion"

Will I have to purchase a new mouse or pad to use the Lion?   I currently use a wireless mouse that came with my 4 year old Mac. I have upgraded and can use the Lion.   Thanks!

You can use your mouse with Lion. You will not be able to use the Multi-Touch gestures option.
    From Apples web site:
    More ways to Multi-Touch.
Every Mac notebook comes with a Multi-Touch trackpad that lets you use a full range of gestures. With iMac, you can choose between the Multi-Touch Magic Mouse or the even more gesture-friendly Magic Trackpad. And you can add either option to Mac mini or Mac Pro. So every Mac comes ready for all the Multi-Touch advancements in OS X Lion.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/gestures.html
You need the Multi-Touch Magic Mouse. To get the best out of the Multi-Touch gestures it would be best to get the Magic Trackpad.

  • Needing A New Mouse

I'm shopping for a new mouse. Can I get some recommendations for high quality ergonomic models that help prevent stress/injury in the hands/arms/shoulder?

Apple's Magic Mouse has the built in finger sensor and does lots for an Apple Mouse. That is really something that personal preferences run deep in. Go to Best Buys or Staples or Radio Shack etc and try the feel of the different mice and pick one that fits your hand nicely. Then you'll need to choose whether you want a wireless or a wired mouse. Have fun with it, good luck. Most any mouse will work with the Mac, stay away from the ones that need their own little reciever though, I think it's a needless 'nother device.

  • Im unable to open my wireless mouse back to change the batteries. The little black button seems to be stuck - I've tried to pry it open using 2 small screwdrivers but to no avail. Will I need to buy a new mouse?ve tried to pry it ope

I am unable to open the back of my wirelss mouse to change the batteries which I've changed several times before. The black release button on the back does not seem to work. I've tried using a couple of small screwdrivers to pry it open but I don't want to break the plastic and therefore the mouse. Anyone have any other ideas or do I need to buy a new mouse?

You may have caused more damage with the screwdrivers.  It can be tricky as it works the opposite way to what you may first imagine.    Hold the mouse, bottom upwards, the black catch nearest to you.   Then flick the black catch towards you with your nail.   (Not away from you towards where a space is showing).

The mouse doesn't work at all and it was covered with dust. I don't understand what kind of service is this -  I order a new mouse from Lenovo's site and i get a used non-working product. To top it off, nobody replies from the websales team as well.

"Wireless" comes n two varieties. One uses bluetooth which is built into the Mac and the other means in a dongle that plugs into a USB port of the computer.I use Apple bluetooth mouse, KB and trackpad for my Mac Pro. For my Mini I use a Logitech bluetooth KB and Apple BT mouse.
Wired ones are more reliable since they are not affected by electrical interference.
    Logitech is a good brand.

    Regards Tom

Use of a stylus is entirely a matter of personal preference and style. It is certainly not necessary and is grossly misleading to characterize it as "best," as if it's some kind of necessity.
I dare say my work qualifies as "professional" as anyone's but I personally have little to no use for a stylus in a vector drawing program. I find them awkward and tedious. If you use the very small handful of features which can take advantage of pressure-sensitivity, then obviously a stylus is advantageous for those features. That's more a matter of drawing style; certainly neither a matter of necessity nor of professionalism.
There is nothing Illustrator-specific regarding sideways scrolling. So if whatever mouse you chose provides for it by the wheel, then it will probably work in AI as it would in any other app. Just use whatever mouse you like. I like a small "notebook size" wireless optical mouse with decent resolution that works well on a desk surface without the need for a mousepad, and a model without a kazillion buttons that are too easy to inadvertently invoke. I typically buy the Microsoft branded "laptop" mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel (not the 10-button ones), and use them for all my desktops and laptops. The scroll wheel scrolls horizontally when pressing Ctrl; zooms when pressing Alt. I use an even smaller mouse for my netbook, because it packs away well in the case.
But again, it's just personal preference.

  • Shopping for a new mouse

    Whats your favorite and why?
    Thanks

Short of spending inordinate amounts of money, I'd go as far as to say most >mice/meeses/mouses are relatively the same. As long as they're not cheap >and break right away.
kind of, but also not really. I just did a whole lot of looking into mice myself, after finally figuring out that they're absolutely not all equal. especially when you are talking bluetooth mice, in my experience you really can make some bad choices.
what i learned from my looking around: laser tracking and optical tracking are not the same thing. you definitely want to go for laser tracking, makes quite a difference. this means that if you're looking at the mighty mouse, it's only the wireless one that has this type of tracking, so take a look at that one.
I think logitech also have a few decent laser tracking bluetooth mice on the market.
if you are going for bluetooth, get something recent to market. bluetooth drivers used to be horrible things for some brands like kensington, they would randomly cut out and need to be reset, or the mouse pointer would just jump all over the screen whenever it felt like it.
under no circumstances should you get a kensington pilot mini optical bluetooth mouse. I just trashed mine, worst mouse I've ever had. it was so bad it turned me off even considering any kensington mice at all when looking for a new one.
so I ended up going with the wireless mighty mouse after testing it out with logic for an hour or so at a local dealer. compared it with a logitech that they had, unfortunately they had no logitechs with laser tracking in stock or it might have been better competition. but I've no regrets at all with the apple one, it's actually quite amazing, never thought I'd like it this much. even the weird scrollball thing is pretty cool, you get quite used to being able to x/y scroll in logic quite quickly.
anyway happy shopping. don't buy kensington!
