A new networking problem (for me, at least)

For some reason, I can no longer connect to my Mac Mini from my Macbook on my home network by clicking on its name. I can only click on its MAC address. However, I can go the other way, accessing my Macbook via the Mac Mini. Also, I tried the Screen Sharing after the problem occurred and that worked both ways.
When I try to connect in Finder it says "Connection Failed." When I click on "Connect AS," I get the following error message:
+Connection failed.+
+There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address and try again.+
+If you are not able to resolve the problem, contact your system administrator.+
Both have OS 10.5.2. My Macbook is a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, and the MacMini 1.5Ghz Power PC G4.
I've checked everything, and even restarted my server, to no avail. I don't know what else to do.
Any help would be appreciated

I'm getting a similar problem. When I try to connect to another server (one of three Macs, each running 10.5.2), my MBP is now giving me either (1) a never-ending "Connecting…" or (2) "Connection failed. There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address and try again. If you are not able to resolve the problem, contact your system administrator."
I just noted this problem today, and I have not made any changes to the network settings (that I'm aware of). I've tried turning off firewall, restarting, rebuilding permissions, resetting the PRAM, and creating a new user—none of which resolved my problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciate.

  • TS4611 Guys if you have these build: 12E3200 and your wifi is dropping, is not the your mid 2013 macbook air, is your router, I solve it by setting up my time capsule as a new network problem solved

Here is what I have been doing:
I got my new macbook air 11" two weeks ago, and have been haven problems with wifi connection dropping, I'm using verizon fioz at home, and their router
I also have a time capsule not set up as a network just join it to my current one.
After looking online all these days, I though, maybe is the verizon device that is updated..
I then reset the time capsule, created a new network
connected my system to the time capsule network, and there it is
    DONE, everything works now.
So if you are haven the same problem,, that is the fix
    hope that helps.
Oh  before I did these I try everything, the wifi update from apple don't work it keeps dropping it
I try everything, so don't and delete the system as some people have done, I read somewhere.
try my fix hopes that works.

I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

  • IPhone 3G OS 3.1.2 New Network Problems

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS 3.1.2, the phone has network and reception issues. The phone goes into "searching" mode at random times and won't come out of it unless I either reboot, or turn on airplane mode and off to connect back to my carrier network. While in "searching" mode, no calls, voice mails, sms or anything comes through, so it really does seem disconnected from the network.
There have no geographical changes (my home and office are in the same place as when I had OS 3.0).
Anyone else with fresh 3.1.2 network issues?

I'm not sure why but my problem appears to have solved itself partially. When I enable 3G I now get full cell service as I did before instead of a weak signal. (Disabling 3G gave me full service which I wasn't happy with but it was more important to get cell service than data at 3G)
Anyways, here's what I did though I'm not sure it helped at all (Maybe my service provider ROGERS was doing some work on 3G service, although nobody else had the same issue).
    - backed up iPhone
    - I restored my phone a 2 times without success.
    - Decided to blank out the entire iphone and set up the iphone from scratch without any improvement.
    - I was able to load the backup on to the iphone bringing me back to where i was at step 1
    - Disabled 3G mode for a few days and decided today I was going to try it out and see if enabling 3G would still reduce my cell signal and surprisingly it didn't!
I seem to now have the issue where wifi signal is intermittently weak but at least I have 3G with full cell service.
I realize the above doesn't present much of a solution but maybe it's related as I was running 3.1.2 fine for quite a while before the 3G no service issue appeared.
Maybe it was a temporary glitch with Rogers' network.
    Well good luck.

  • Network Adapter for G41-Z77A?

Hey, so one day my internet stopped working after my friend moved my computer, and judging from the fact that I can't find the network adapter in the hardware when looking at the system specs  (that thing that usually says what drivers you have installed), I'm pretty sure I need to buy a new network adapter for my motherboard, and I was wondering which ones are compatible with my motherboard. I'm sorry if this was a stupid question, but I've only ever built a computer, not messed around with the individual parts. Yes, I have tried re installing windows, the drivers, and disconnecting the PSU from the motherboard already. Any help would be VERY appreciated.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.

Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.  I took my old router upstairs and was streaming TV via my ipad seamlessly - the same program via the TC was constantly buffering.
I just expected to be able to plug in the TC, so a simple set-up and experience wireless both upstairs and downstairs in my house.  For some reason the range is low and speed veru disappointing.
I am far from being an IT expert but I would welcome advice about setting up this TC so we can enjoy the product as it was designed.  Please HELP!

No silver bullet........but my suggestions may drive you in the right direction.
    1.  Unplug the power cable from the TC and wait 10-15 minutes before powering back up.   Seriously wait!
Proceed to #2 if this dosen't help.
    2.  Unplug the power cable from the TC, ubplug the power cable from your Broadband Modem (assuming it's a cable modem), disconnect ethernet, and cable from modem.
2a.  Wait 10-15 minutes then re-connect cable, ethernet, and power back to modem (your modem should power up unless you have a power switch)  wait for all the modem lights to come on EXCEPT activity.
2b.  Connect ethernet from modem to TC, and plug in the power cable to TC.
Proceed to #3 if this dosen't help.
    3.  Reconfigure the TC.........Read here........http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
All really simple to do....if you need additional help let me (us) know.

  • My new Ipad2 got connected to my home Wi-Fi and to the network and for 2 days everything was alright. Then I encounteed a problem. Though my Ipad2 was getting connected to Wi-Fi, could'nt access network. How to enable Data Roaming?.

My new Ipad2 got connected to my home wi-fi and to the network. For 2 days evrything qored well. Then though Ipad2 was connected to wi-fi, it did not open the web page/s. The dialogue box read, `Data Roaming is turned off. You can enable Data Roaming in the Network Section of General Settings' When I tried it, there is no item of Data Roaming displayed in the Network Section of General Settings. It shows only two settings. 1. VPN and 2. Wi-Fi.  How to correct this issue? Help is needed to resolve this issue. I am from India and Apple do not have any local service providers.Pl. help me.

Sounds like the WiFi is connected, but cannot reach the Internet and is trying to use 3G, but you are in a roaming area so you get the dialog.
The first thing to try is turning the Wi-Fi off and back on again in Settings.  Or simply turn the iPad off and back on again.  If that doesn't work double-check that other devices are able to use the same WiFi network successfuly, or try the iPad on another WiFi network.

  • Sudden airport problem - due to new networks in the building?

I've been using my airport extreme network for some time, without any problems. My macbook suddenly stopped recognising the network - although my iphone and other computers continue to use it without any problems.
The network name no longer appears in the drop down Airport Extreme menu, although several other networks in the building do.
Strangely, this seems to have occurred just as several other people have moved into the building and set up their own, new, non-airport extreme wifi networks.
Is there anything I can do to force my macbook to re-recognise my own wifi network? I've tried clicking "other..." on the drop down menu and then typing in my network's details, without any success.
Switching everything on-and-off hasn't helped either.
    Thanks!

  • Problem creating Network ACL for a ROLE in Oracle 11gR2

According to Oracle Documentation when you create a new Network ACL you can add privileges to a user or role.  I need to create a new ACL for the UTL_SMTP package for a specific role, but when I granted it the users who have that role are still getting the "ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list (ACL)" error when they try to send an email.  If I grant the ACL privilege to the same users directly it works fine.  Is there any step I'm missing?  This is the test I have made on my Solaris 10 - Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.3) Standard Edition server:

I'm aware that role privileges doesn't apply inside procedures, functions or packages by default, but this is an anonymous block so it should use the active roles for the user.  I also tried adding a "dbms_session.set_role('TESTACL_ROLE');" at the beggining of the anonymous PL/SQL block but I got the same access error.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give to me on this question, it would be very hard to grant the ACL to all the individual users as they are more than 1000, and we create more regularly.

Thanks for your quick reply... I don't have a problem creating the basic ACL with the privileges granted for a user.  The problem appears when I try to create an ACL with privileges for a ROLE.  You can see here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25788/d_networkacl_adm.htm#BABIGEGG than the official Oracle documentation states that you can assign the ACL principal to be a user or role:
    Parameter
    Description
    acl
Name of the ACL. Relative path will be relative to "/sys/acls".
    description
    Description attribute in the ACL
    principal
Principal (database user or role) to whom the privilege is granted or denied. Case sensitive.
My issue is that when I try to create the ACL for a role it doesn't work.
Have you ever created an ACL for a role? if so please send me an example or let me know which step I might be missing.  Cheers.

  • Network problem after new OSX update download

    Greetings!
I've had a new (late 06) Intel 24" iMac networked wirelessly to my older iMac/cable modem/D-Link router very successfully since October. No problems and seamless set-up through the D-Link online wizard software.
Saturday I noticed an OSX upgrade to 10.4.8 (211mg) and went ahead and did the download on the wireless (Intel) iMac.
Upon restart, however, I have not been able to reconnect to my network. Airport is ON, but choosing my network name returns an error message. I have also attempted to reboot both cable modem and router, and reentered the D-Link wizard to both doublecheck the old network, and set up a new network, but saving these settings seems to fail by not recognizing the device, the router.
One of the error messages (on the wireless iMac) claims that my "settings have been changed by another application" (or to that effect) but does not give any clue as to how to determine what or where.
Also, since attempting to start from scrtch with the router, I no longer seem to get a full signal from the airport -- in Internet Connect, I no longer see a nice row of blue signal lights.
As you may be able to tell, I am new to networking, and the D-Link setup had helped make it simple -- tht is, I bumbled my way through it and was pleased with how well it worked. Now, after the OS update, not having the network is annoying -- and potentilly disastrous, as I need this machine online by Saturday.
Anyone able to give me a gentle hand, or nudge in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance!
    Bill
PS- Mac user since 1991! Wireless network user since only late October!

    Hi again,
Sorry, BDAqua, I didn't see your note. I don't quite understand the last line of your suggestion -- a number greater than the number of CPUs? Not sure what you mean...
Phil, thanks for your note, too.
I believe the answer to your first question is 802.11g -- this is what it was set to.
After trying again to connect, using my old passwords, I was able to see the blue signal strength barss, and the Airport icon flashed on and off a few times, but ultimately the connection attempt failed again every time I tried it.
At this point, I'm no longer confident that my router is sending out a recognizable signal -- is this possible?
Also, in the dialog box in which available networks are usually shown (which has not happened since my original connection in October), today I was faced with a choice I hadn't seen before: 2WIRE736 -- is this likely to be someone else's network (a neighbor's)? I was wondering -- I'd never seen that one before. However, my own network names do not show up for choosing, and when I use Internet Connect to request them (and add WPA Personal and passwords), the connection appears to fail immediately.
At this point, should I attempt an OSX reinstall? Or has something I described made some sense for you?
Again, still very appreciative of all your help and patience with my ignorance.
    Bill

  • Software can't check for an update because of a network problem

Since I updated to Lion I keep getting this http://grab.by/cKz4 [Software can't check for an update because of a network problem window] everytime I click on Software update in finder. Also I get the same window when I try to open the App Store app.... my internet connection works fine and I previously updated with the direct stand alone downloads from the Apple site.
I downloaded the new 10.7.2 like this as well as the iphoto update.
Any ideas why this is happening?

just did a bit of a search and discovered that it was Little Snitch that was the problem.... you have to update to the latest version [or switch it off for software before using software update]
