A new newsletter template?

Difficult to explain but I want to do a Newsletter using A4 (or US equivalent) in 'landscape' mode folding the sheet vertically giving me effectively a brochure of A5 size with 4 sides to read (and admire). I want to be able to do an individual page layout for each page. I cannot work out how to do this in Pages in '08 and wonder if it is possible. Also, is there a source of templates that I could buy which would meet my requirements? Currently, I am tempted to go back to Appleworks where what I wanted to do was easy but Pages does have extra features I should like to be able to use.

Most menu grayed out when using a Pages Newsletter template

I selected a newsletter template (Design newsletter) and I'm working on it to create my own newsletter. I've been able to do some changes, but when trying to do add objects to the master (I want to have a watermark in each page), or insert page numbers, or a page break i can see that a lot of the menu items are grayed out. Is there something I'm missing? When i create a document from scratch all the menu is available. I even tried to copy all I had in the newsletter I'm creating and pasting to a new blank document, but then it looks complete messed up... Please give me a hand with this

*Page Layout* mode does not have master objects. Instead there is a template for each layout under the Pages menu on the toolbar.
For watermarks you will have to position the graphic, change its transparency, send it to the back and lock it.
Then:
+Menu > Format > Advanced > Capture Pages…+
Name the new page template which will then appear under the Pages menu on the toolbar. You will get a copy of that particular layout every time you select it from the menu. Think of it like a rubber stamp or Xerox copier, not a master anything.
Retrospectively editing is a PITA as editing a page template does nothing to pages already using a template. The process of replacing a template, pointless as it is, is rendered even more absurd by the arcane method needed to do it. You have to type exactly the same name as the existing page template, including U&lc, without being able to view the name, then overwrite it.
The mess continues as it asks whether you want to include more than the one page but all other options are greyed out. There are a string of features which don't work, half work or work badly with no explanation.
It is confusing as *Page Layout* mode actually lacks exactly the kind of things that you would expect of most layout programs but the features still remain in the menus from *Word Processing* mode.
It is the consequence of some very muddled thinking by Apple's programmers.

Header image on newsletter template

Wow! I am stumped by this one. But I am a new user of pages. I am using the newsletter template and trying to remove a blue image that lies behind the newsletter name. I can get rid of the image by selecting and deleting it. But I want to replace it with one of my own images. How do I do that?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
There are 12 different newsletter templates. It's always helpful to tell us which one you're working with, so we don't have to figure it out. Two of them have blue images behind the newsletter name. Flipping a coin, I'll assume you're using the Johnson Family newsletter.
If you click on that background, then the Metrics inspector, you'll see that this image is called spring.tif. All you have to do is delete it, insert one of your own (from iPhoto or copy & paste), resize it, then click on Arrange > Send to Back.

Sounds like you have "updated" to Pages 5.
Welcome to the "New", "Improved" version.
Apple has removed so many features (over 90) from Pages 5 that it simply can not open the older templates, so it removed most of them.
It didn't warn its users however that Pages 5 would do the same thing to them, ie screw up their files.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Pages, i can't see more than page one when I download a newsletter template

When I download a newsletter template I only see page one. How do I get to use the rest of the pages?

Mousing shows all the available pre-formatted pages available in each template to give you an idea what is there, but you only get one, sometimes 2, when you create a new document. All of the other pages can be accessed via the Insert menu. Insert > Sections in word processing & Insert > Pages in page layout.
If they all loaded when you opened a template, you'd have to go through & delete the ones you don't want & duplicate the ones you want more than one of.

Newsletter Templates

New to the board here. Just wanting to find some new and nice newsletter templates. The ones provided are obviously great (hey, its Apple), but I would like a few more options. Thanks for your help.

More Newsletter Templates

I having been doing many searches trying to find good looking newsletter templates. I don't really see any available for purchase or for free that are of any quality. Are there any websites out there that I should be looking at to find more interesting newsletters?

The best available and widest samples are from Stocklayout.
There are 2 major problems though.
First is they are only in the non ISO US sizes.
Second is that the Pages templates are not real Pages format. They may be in .pages but are not styled or with the correct placeholders to make them work efficiently. The text tends to be broken up into pieces which shows what they have done is actually convert from .pdfs.
Jumsoft has good .pages templates, using real Pages functions, but none that are truly finished design like Stocklayouts. They tend to be blandly simple, waiting on a skilled designer to bring them to life.
Inkd claims to have some in Pages but mostly they are in Illustrator or Indesign. I have a real problem with their business model as well which basically rips off desperate naïve designers, and has run out of those to exploit. There is very little new material on their site and they are always discounting.
As Yvan has said rolling your own not only has its own rewards but you get to tailor the work to your own needs.
Consider paying a designer to make one for you if you do not have the skills. It generally is the short route to getting work that fits your needs. Templates are like off the rack suits, with the exception that they never fit off the rack and need someone skilled enough to fit them to you. Not really less work than tailoring them for you in the first place.
Oddly, something that seems to escape most, the better the work you more you can expect to pay. We live in a society so 'me' oriented that everyone thinks only their own work is worth paying for and undervalues everyone elses. Especially if it is creative, because 'anyone' can do that if only they have the right software.
You only have to look around you at the results of this popular theory, to see that maybe they need to go back to the drawing board and work on it some more.

Print Quote the report is in PDF but need to be new RTF template

We have 11.5.10 apps, the Quote screen is an OAF screen.
When clicking Print Quote the report is in PDF, They want to include a new RTF template for printing instead of PDF.
The new RTF template is created. But what I do not know is how the quote screen will take the new template. I can use XMLP to upload the RTF template but that may not be sufficient to make it appear in the Quote screen.
I am looking at the profile ASO:Default Layout Template. Am I headed the right way?

Problem while creating a new project template

I am trying to create a new project template under one operating unit newly created.
I am using P A Super User responsibility for that operating unit.
In profile setting the above responsibility has been assigned the new operating unit under Mo operating unit profile.
Now when I go to Setup>>Projects>>Project Templates and click on New, the form to create new Project template opens up but in the field where I have to select the operating unit, it shows no values in the LOV.
Can anyone please help me to know what setting do I have to perform so that I can select the operating unit in this new Template creation Form.

Dear Mr. Govind,
we have followed all the Project Implementation Setup for the new operating unit except for the Implementation options which we have to fill up for each operating unit.
In the implementation Options form in the first tab 'System' there are many fields to be filled up.
For 'Summarization period Type' we choose 'G L Period' and based on this the fields 'Calendar Name' and 'P A Period Type' automatically gets populated.
But in our case the 'P A Period Type' is not getting populated.
Can you let me know where we can link the 'P A Period Type' to the chosen 'Calendar name'?
Also there is a check box - 'Maintain common PA and GL Periods'. If we tick this check box, a message says: 'The Period Type and Calendar of the PA Period does not match the Period type and Calendar of the corresponding GL Period.'
Can you please let me know where to create the PA Period based on the corresponding GL periods?

An error occured while generating a new report template

I have installed the Crystal Reports 2008 V2 and also the support pack. Installed the SAP Integration Kit XI 3.1 and the latest service pack 2.7. When I try to use the SAP Tool bar from Crystal Report , I can connect/see the queries but when I select any query to create a report I am getting an error message
"An error occured while generating a new report template". Any advise ? How do I turn on the trace in the client ?

To turn tracing on for client applications, you can use the following steps:
1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment Variables button.
2. Under the User Variables, add the following variable and value:
For Enterprise XI:
Variable Name: BOE_LOGGER_ENVIRONMENT
Variable Value: -trace -loggingPath c:\logs
For Crystal Analysis, Crystal Enterprise, and Crystal Reports version 10 and earlier:
Variable Name: CRYSTAL_LOGGER_ENVIRONMENT
Variable Value: -trace -loggingPath c:\logging

Creation of new layout templates

Hello,
in the portal there are some layout templates available for pages. They are used for the innerpage of default frameworkpage ,too. I like to change the width of first column of the narrowWide 2 columns layout. Found in online Help that you have to use the developer studio or change the *.jsp file directly to get a customized layout (template). I don`t like to change the available jsp files. Best idea would be to have a new jsp file in place on which a new template is based. I found the narrowWide.jsp in the file system where you can change easily the width of colums. But how can I get a new jsp File? Is this only possible by using the developer studio or is there another way to do that?

I like to go closer to your solution.
Ok, my steps would be:
1. Searching the folder where the narrowWide.jsp and the related portalapp.xml is found (usr\sap\...).
2. Make a copy of the narrowWide.jsp, rename it to narrow35Wide65.jsp and save it in the same folder where the narrowWide were found.
3. Edit the new *.jsp file and change the width of narrow column to 35% and wide column to 65% (result should be increasing the narrow column width)
4. Rename the extension of current portalapp.xml in the same folder to portalapp.xml.bak and make a copy of the file in same folder giving the original file name.
5. Editing the portalapp.xml and paste a new component entry based to the narrowWide component entry. Here I have to change the component name and the jsp file name only like in this example, right?

New From Template Changes Relative Links to Local Root?

Thank you for taking the time to read and understand my plight with Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac. I apologize for the lengthy question, but in the effort to provide detail I shall go. First the background:
I'm updating, editing, and appending an existing site that was previously created with Dreamweaver.
I'm new to Dreamweaver but have a pretty good understanding of things
I created a new site on the local drive on my MacBook Pro and then downloaded the entire site via FTP (live site: domain.com)
I then replicated the site and exact file structure using FTP to a staging server (staging.domain.com)
There are three existing .dwt templates. I've successfully updated the template file and auto updated all other pages that were based on this template.
But my problem comes from creating new pages FROM the template. It appears that while the .dwt template file shows relative links (../xxxx) in the code, when create a new file from the template the url of these links is replaced by the path to the file on my local drive... I want non of this (.../xxxx) is fine.
What is happening is that a javascript drop down menu is disappearing when I create new from template. I am assuming it's because of the path changes.
This is the ORIGINAL (good) code from the .dwt:

I assume I could simply do this by changing the ftp info and given the site structure and all files are same and ideally all links are relative this should be accomplished easily.
Though perhaps my problem stems from the fact my local site is buried several layers deep on my local drive Local Drive/Users/Me/Clients/Client.... etc... but I haven't checked this yet.

Now bear with me here as I notice this behavour too.
In the code snipped taken directly from the DW .dwt template (linked above)

you'll notice there are two images L-Header-Corner.gif and one that is Header.BG.gif.
The difference here is that the BG gif has a style attributed to it "Background-Image) which is followed by some strange code that says (url)../
Opening that file Background Image and it's a tiny slice of what I think is part of the entire missing gray bar:
In a page that displays correctly the code looks like this:

So you can see that the link in this case (with the URL and style) has actually been converted to a site (my hard drive) relative link when saving.
So the pressing question stands: Why doesn't dreamweaver convert that URL link when saving a page created from a template back to the same directory?
Also, it appears that in that .DWT all the links have the leading periods and therefore are document relative... since I didn't set this up, how do you think this happened?

Missing fonts in new iWork templates?

Most of the new iWork templates I bring up cause alerts to sound that they contained fonts, which are not on my system.
Shouldn't Apple only use fonts in iWork templates that are included with Macs?

This has been an ongoing problem for quite a few users. Several things have been suggested that have worked for some users but not others. The most extensive thread I've found on the problem is this thread, especially this post which found the problem to be a cache issue. It's not at all unusual for caches to become corrupt. I periodically run a utility to run the UNIX cron routines & clean caches. I prefer YASU because you can’t delete something you shouldn’t as you can with OnyX.

Error with new Room Template (containing KM Navigation iView)

I created a new room template based on a newly created workset which just contains the KM Navigation iView. As I went through the template wizard step by step (Content Administration > Collaboration Content > Room Template Administration) I didn't add any External Parameters (Step 3) and didn't add any extensions (Step 4). In the Mapping (Step 5) I mapped all internal parameter to "room_id" since I didn't know it any better. Then I created a room based on this template. When I entered the room I got the following error message. Is it possible that the following error has to do with the fact that I mapped all internal parameters to "room_id" and that I did not add any external parameters or any extensions?

Can't open a new blank template in Pages?

When I open Pages to choose a new blank template I get an error message that states "Pages has either moved or been deleted". Anyone have any advice to help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked for Pages.app to see if it's been moved or deleted? Here's an example of using Finder to locate the app.
