A new tab sends me to Facebook

Yesterday all my settings for Firefox changed without authorization and while I think I have most of it back to the way it was, I am still having problems with one feature. When I open a new tab, I am automatically sent to Facebook instead of a blank page or Google or another search engine. I do not want to be sent to Facebook but I can't figure out how to change that setting.

You might want to do a scan for malware.

  • I just opened my Facebook account at Firefox 5.0 and lo and behold 14 new tabs of the same Facebook account opened and would have opened more if I did not close Firefox! Please help!

I have earlier sent this feedback.

This issue is probably caused by the Facebook Toolbar 1.7.3 extension

  • Opening a new tab by right clicking from Facebook home page

Whenever I right click and go to a new tab I get a messed up page. This happens only on Facebook when helping friends or viewing something from a post. It only happens on Firefox, tried it on IE plus on 2 more computers. Also when I am playing a game...ie FV and wish to post for help...the box just sets there showing it working but never opens fully so I can post.
Will be glad to send a copy of what the page looks like when I open a new tab if you need it.

here is what the page looks like when I open a new tab...is there anything I can do to fix this...Thank You

  • Firefox is unable to open Facebook pages(not app pages) when opened in a new Tab. It works fine on the original tab though.

When I log into my facebook account, it loads up fine. However, if I try to open any facebook pages into a new tab, it fails to load. It doesn't seem to affect the original tab in which it was loaded. It also doesn't seem to affect Facebook app pages. I have tested this on IE without any problems. This only happened after a firefox update.
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://www.facebook.com

  • How can I rapidly open Facebook home, then open all of my notifications each in a new tab, without having new tabs refusing to load? Ff can't do 3 tabs @once.

    Open Facebook.
    Click on notifications.
One by one, right-click on each one, and select open in new tab.
Result: only one or two tabs successfully load. Firefox apparently cannot open more than two tabs simultaneously with a DSL connection. and Windows 8.1 on a Dell laptop. :(
The unsuccessful tabs still show New Tab, but are blank white pages, and have the URL that SHOULD HAVE opened.
Refresh tab will not load the page.
Cut the URL, then paste and go the URL, and the page will load.

    METHOD 1
    You can do the following:
    * Scan your Computer for viruses.
    * Disable all ad-on and extensions.
Check this page for more information
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-repeatedly-opens-empty-tabs-or-windows
    METHOD 2:
    If it didn't work than
    * Reset the FireFox (It won't delete any history or your saved bookmarks).

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • When I choose to open a new tab from a website, such as facebook, it always opens it in a new window. How do I change this to just opening a new tab. I tried changing the tab settings but it did not work

When I choose to open a new tab from a website, such as facebook, it always opens it in a new window. How do I change this to just opening a new tab. I tried changing the tab settings but it did not work. I did not have the problem until I started using firefox 4.

It is probably a JavaScript link.
You can probably force it where you want it with a keyboard shortcut
    either "Ctrl+click" or "Ctrl+Shift+click". see
    * Firefox and other Browser Keyboard Shortcuts (Comparison Table)<br>http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/keyboard.htm
    ''Did that work?''

  • I was able to go to facebook's farmtown gifts in a new tab and collect gifts "all in one click" The new version of firefox will not let me do that

I was able to open a new tab and go to farmtown gifts and click "all in one click" I would stay signed in on facebook I can no longer do this and I want to know why. I can still go to google chrome and get it, but not firefox and firefox is my main browser

This issue can be caused by the Ask<i></i>.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
Your system details show that toolbar in the user agent as AskTbCDS/3.12.1.16460
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

You can override how links are opened via the browser.link.open_newwindow.override pref.
    *1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
Use this for links opened via JavaScript.

the user cor-el has a method that does not require any add-ons. He States
This code in userChrome.css will move "Open Link in New Window" to the top of the context menu.
    <pre>@namespace url("<a href="http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul">http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul</a>"); /* only needed once */
    #contentAreaContextMenu &gt; * { -moz-box-ordinal-group: 2; }
    #context-openlink { -moz-box-ordinal-group: 1 !important; }</pre>
the user jay_ff shows how to do it using the Menu Editor Add-on
    1. Install the Menu Editor add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ .
    2. After the installation, go to Firefox> add-ons (or simply use Ctrl+Shift+A)
    3. Go to the Menu Editor "Options"
    4. In the "Main context menu," simply grab the "Open link in New Tab" and place it below the "Open Link in New Window"
    5. and Voila! You may also change other menu options if you want to!
I tried jay_ff method first and found that indeed changing the Main Context Menu did cause the hotlink context menu to change as well.

  • Pinned google+ and facebook pages opens new tab instead of refresh.

Using pinned aps for facebook, clicking 'facebook' icon to refresh sometimes opens it in a new tab. Clicking refresh in pinned google+ tab ALWAYS opens in a new tab. Don't want a new tab, I want refresh current tab.

Just to add, this only happens when the ap tabs are pinned. When they're out in the field, they always refresh normally.

    I figured it out!
I read a solution for something that sounded similar.
    Anyone in similar position:
Open iTunes app on iPhone, and pick an option from bottom, such as music. Then scroll down to bottom of page and where your iTunes ID is, press on it, and pick sign out.
Then return to home screen, and double press home button and press and hold on first icon showing, until a minus symbol appears in the top left of icons present. Press on each minus symbol on each app in turn, until all app icons have disappeared. Then Restart the phone by pressing and hold the home button and the on/off/standby button at top of phone, until the apple symbol appears in centre of blank screen.
Swipe to turn phone fully on and open settings and scroll down to iTunes and apps option and tap that. Pick sign in and put in your apple ID, it will accept it and then return to home screen and open iTunes a you'll find it works fine
Simple really, but some like me won't think f this themselves!
    Hope that helps

  • Firefox does not allow me to reply or send e-mails when browsing , if i click on a link to apply to a job it just opens new tabs until i force a shutdown on my pc

When trying to apply to jobs or respond to adds my firefox 4.0.1 just continuously opens new tabs until i am forced to manually shut down my pc , this was true in earlier versions of firefox also. I am forced to keep internet explorer and run their browser whenever their is a chance i may need to correspond and attach a resume. If i have an actual e-mail address from the employer i can avoid starting explorer by going to my e-mail inbox , but if i am given only a link to apply to i have to shutdown firefox and run explorer.
I just don't get it , firefox is brilliant and i do not care to run explorer at all , can anyone help me ??

  • When i send email, hundreds of new tabs open up, why?

When I am browsing a craiglist add and click on an email link to reply, , it is supposed to take me to my default e-mail client and fill in the :mailto address line with the link.
However when I click on the link, Firefox 4.6 starts opening new tabs at a furious rate and keep going uncontrollably. I have to close everything down to regain control.

See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], using that article, in the section "change the action for a content type" make sure that the mailto is not set to "Use Firefox"
The article also shows some other things to check.
