A new window used to open windowed, now always opens maximized

Clicking on "Print" inside of maps.google.com opens a new window.
It used to open windowed, not maximized and always in a certain size.
Firefox crashed, had to restart the PC and now this new window always opens maximized.
I want new tabs maximized (eg, clicking the + button) , but if an application opens a new window, I want it windowed, not maximized.
I deleted prefs.js and localstore.rdf, the problem still persists
Firefox 24

If the page uses a script to specify certain window dimensions, then Firefox usually will honor those dimensions.
However, if the new window is launched without that information, the window typically will have the same size/state as the current window, or maybe the last closed window.
The information about window sizes and positions is stored in the same file as toolbar customizations. You can get rid of this file without doing a full Firefox reset. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leave that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. Hopefully now your window behavior will be back to the default.

  • Dual monitor - force new windows to always open on primary monitor?

I use my secondary monitor to watch streaming TV in internet browser windows.  When I have finished watching streaming TV and the secondary monitor is switched off, Safari still opens new browser windows on the secondary monitor by default (presumably due to the fact that the last active browser window was open on the secondary monitor).  This is irritating and means I have to switch the secondary monitor back on to drag the new browser window back to the primary display.  The secondary monitor is connected by VGA.
This is a minor niggle, rather than a major issue, but it is irritating nevertheless!  Does anyone know if there is a way to force new windows to always open on primary monitor, regardless of where the last active window was?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Ben

After many days i found solution:
Run the client and get it set up the way you prefer, or Open your saved RDP file
On the Display tab, choose a non-fullscreen resolution.
On the General tab, click "delete these credentials", if possible.
    Click Connect .
You will immediately get a local login dialog. Leave it blank and click
    OK .
When you are connected and the remote login dialog appears, drag the window to the desired monitor.
On the remote login dialog, click Cancel . The settings dialog should reappear locally.
On the Display tab, you can now choose fullscreen.
You can now save your session with the Save button on the
General tab, as well as save your login credentials.
Try more times ,worked for me.

  • I set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

i set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same apple ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.

  • Why can't I open a new window now? I prefer a new window to a tab.

I like using Mozilla, I also like to open a new window, as opposed to a tab (that's just me I guess). I now have to Control W to get a window - can't the open be brought back? (and I don't always need the Private Window).

Hmm, how were you opening it before?
In Firefox 29 and higher, there is a menu button with 3 horizontal bars at the right end of the main toolbar. This should have "New Window" as an item. If you prefer to use the classic menu bar, and open a new window from the File menu, you can display the bar using any of these methods:
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Menu Bar
    * right-click the "+" button on the tab bar > Menu Bar
    * tap the Alt key to display the bar temporarily, then View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
    * click the "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
If New Window is not available and you only have New Private Window, then you may be in a private window already.
By the way, Ctrl+w should ''close'' the current tab, at least on Windows.

  • I have two monitors on my Mac. Running FF3.6.16 new windows now want to open on the wrong monitor. How do I get FF to open on the main display?

I have an eMac with a second display. I am running OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) and Firefox 3.6.16. Everything was working fine until the other day I opened a second window in Firefox and dragged it to my secnd monitor. I later closed it. Since then all New Window requests, including when starting Firefox always open on the second monitor. How do I tell Firefox I want my main monitor has the primary monitor?

It has nothing to do with the Mac, but more with the software exporting the displays on the PC.  A typical VNC server will generally only export the primary monitor.
What PC software are you using to export the display(s), and what Mac software are you using to view the PC displays?  That may help someone come up with a workable solution for you (or not ).

  • Links in other applications opening in new windows now instead of tabs randomly

Randomly today after booting up my PC and opening firefox links I receive from other people on like AIM or Steam chat open a whole new window where as before they would just open a new tab. It's veryyyy annoying and I have the option "Open new windows in a new tab instead" on. I'm using aurora build by the way, if that matters.

Try to ask in the daily thread or create a new thread on the MozillaZine Builds forum, maybe someone there knows an answer.

  • I just installed ff 4, impossible to open in a new window its always showing blank

    - open in a new tab no issue, open in new window : blank - windows xp sp3 - Some say its the google toolbar , I cant imagine firefox team is not fixing this- Anybody knows a fix ?

In case anyone is following this thread, I've determined that in my case, the problem is definitely caused by an extension (Roboform).
    Here is a reproduction scenario:
    1. Search for sessionstore.js somewhere in your Windows Profile, and delete it.
    2. Start FF.
    3. Middle-click your Home button twice, creating three tabs with your home page in them (in my case, Google)
    4. Close and re-open FF. It opens correctly, restoring the three tabs.
    5. Left-drag one of the tabs off the tab header, which should open the tab in a new window. A new window opens, but it is blank.
    6. Close the new window, then close the existing window. By closing the new (blank) window first, it should cause it to not be saved in the session.
    7. Open FF again. Two windows are created: one with two tabs, each with your home page, and one with a single tab with nothing in it.
If you repeat step 5, even if you close the new window each time, an additional window is created each time you start FF. This also applies to creating new windows via Ctrl-N, or by right-clicking a link and clicking "Open in New Window".
By disabling Roboform browser integration, the problem goes away. I'm about to email the Roboform people now...

  • Help! New windows, jump menus and maximizing

Hello all. I am new to Dreamweaver, and I have been having
trouble with some things that should be easy.
    1) How can I force a new window to maximize to the screen
    size?
    2) I am using a Jump Menu, and what I want to do is open a
new window from the jump menu on top of the original window. I want
the new window to open separately and the back button to be
disabled. I want to do this because when I go to a new window from
an original one, then press the back button, the original page is
    not refreshed.
Can someone PLEASE help me with these two items? Is there any
scripting you can share that I can insert or anything else you
    know?
    Thanks so much!

The jump menus are just a <select> form element with a
    bit of javascript
applied. It will work just fine with your templates. And,
    yes, you could
safely use SSI as well to save yourself the hassle of
    uploading the changed
child pages. Most of DWs javascript can be safely relegated
    to an external
js file that you include in the page.
The pop-up menus are a nightmare - don't ever consider their
    behavior when
thinking about other DW features. ;)

  • New Window command always gives a window within a window

Whenever I do "New Window" in Firefox, I get a "window within a window" (the two X's at the upper right are on top of each other) and I get a "Firefox v" orange tab (which gives a two column menu).
I can't seem to get things to work the old way where the window looks like a regular window instead of a window inside a window.
I'm using Firefox 5 on Windows XP

  • Finder opening new Windows despite always open in new Tabs setting.

I have already submitted this to Apple. But wish to open a discussion here, to probe and see, if this issue frustrates other users. It would be nice to get some empirical weight behind my already submitted request.
The Issue: I have already set in Finder »always open in new tabs«. Despite this, when for example one clicks on »view Download in Finder« (Safari), or via a Spotlight-search clicks CMD+R to view a search-result in Finder, a new Finder-Window gets launched. This is really frustrating and quickly clutters up the desktop. Could Apple please fix this, so that »always open in a new tab« really does just this? (Or at the very least, opens a new tab in the last opened Finder-window).
The same irritation ist true for Terminal. I just wished users would be have the option to open everything in the same (e.g. the last opened) window.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Clicking on a new tab used to open a blank page, now it opens SweetIM; how do I fix this?

I used to be able to open a new tab and it would show a blank page, but now it shows a site called SweetIM that I didn't set as the site to be opened when I open a new tab.

First, try the suggestions here: [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]].
If that doesn't help then I suggest that you visit a reputable forum specializing in malware removal instead of trying to follow instructions on various Internet sites that may run you into trouble. See [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] for some recommendations.

Are you using a bookmark? There is a little-known feature of bookmarks that can load them in Firefox's sidebar. This allows you to work with two pages side-by-side. To change that setting, right-click the bookmark > Properties, then uncheck the box for "Load this bookmark in the sidebar".
(You probably didn't set this yourself. If you use a link on a website to have the site add a bookmark to Firefox, due to restrictions on what sites can do, those will always be targeted toward the sidebar.)
If that's not it, have you noticed any pattern in when this happens?

  • "new window" command always opens a new window that is smallest possible size, so I have to resize it - every time.
