A nice font for a stylized but proper CV?

Hi!
I'm currently between jobs and is looking for a nice font to spice up my CV a bit. I don't wanna go with Helvetica, but at the same time I need something with transparent design.
I have worked with design professionally for four years, but have just recently started to really take an interest in fonts.
Any suggestions would be helpful to get me started!
Thanks in advance.

That is one solid answer! Thanks a lot for that, I will surely look those up!
I have, however, already finished my CV now. I went with "Gill Alt One MT" for the headline and a font called "Leelawadee" for the rest. I have little knowledge of fonts...I just know the basics and no history at all. But I know good design when I see it, so I used a program called "The Font Thing" to browse multiple fonts at once, to find a suitable one. But thanks to your post, I can hopefully learn a bit more...
The design ended up like this:
In the screenshots, the font looks thicker than it is because of downscaling anti-aliasing issues, so here's a close up:

edit: Damn the image quality gets really bad when posted, well, you get the general idea at least.

I have Windows 7 and for some reason I cannot install Adobe Type Manager onto my Computer. I need ATM to install the DIN font but am having no luck what so ever. I can see the DIN font in my Dropbox but it is showing up like this:-  ._DIN-bold, no file file extension. what am I doing wrong? is it Mac?

    (1)    Adobe Type Manager (ATM) is not compatible with any version of Windows beyond Windows XP (32-bit, only). Attempting to install ATM on any newer version of Windows may actually disable Window's capability of rendering Type 1 and OpenType CFF fonts, requiring a reinstallation of Windows.
    (2)    There is no need to use ATM to install any fonts under Windows.
    (3)    The file name ._DIN-bold is indicative of a MacOS font. These fonts cannot be installed on Windows systems.

  • Need help in finding a font for a logo

I was looking for help in finding a font for my logo. I'm not a designer at all, so I'm calling on all the fine designers and folks on the Adobe site to help me out. All replies are, of course, appreciated and any suggestions/comments/ideas will be welcome.
I'm designing a logo for my film company. I wanted to keep it simple but not boring either. I put together the first draft of the logo using Photoshop CS3 and used Trajan Pro for the film company words (Panthera Films) and used Futura for the slogan ("Inspiration through Imagination"). While I don't mind the fonts, it's simple but, alas, too boring. I love the panther image but need a dynamic font for "Panthera Films" and a complimenting font for the slogan.
Can anyone recommend a good combination of fonts to replace the Trajan Pro and Futura? As well, I want to give the logo a nice presence without it being too loud, bold or jumping off the page. As well, should the font for "Films" be the same as "Panthera" or can they be different?
The image I attached is something I was thinking to use as a banner on a website.
Any help would be appreciated too with this
    TIA,
    Dale

    Dale,
As I said, I like it too.
You may consider making it a bit heavier, maybe bold, for readability at small sizes.
It is hard to recommend a specific font because it should represent your company and what it stands for. Have you tried typing the name in a word processing application (Worst or something better) and then running through all the font you have? If not, that might give you a few new thoughts about the overall kind of font you feel is the right one. And then it is much easier to recommend something.

  • New tab homepage and font for ff

my problem is that with new ff 5.0 i can set up an option which will open every new tab with my home page. with the old one it worked but when i was looking for a new add on looks like the old one hasn't been upgraded to the new ff 5.0. maybe i just dont know where to look ,so then pls give me some suggestion what should i do with this, or maybe you dont have this feature for ff 5.0, so then it is my suggestion to do this because it's one of the most important features while working with new tabs to have already a webpage which you want to work with instead of taping address every time you open a new tab!!
another thing is that somehow i changed font for the whole interface of ff and now somehow cant find where is this option where to change it again.. :( would you be so nice and help me to find this option again? font of wepage content is good. it's only about ff's interface like toolbars, the place where you type www address, bookmarks toolbar, font in name of open tabs)
it's definitely not the option in tools -> options -> content -> font!
I'm pretty sure that i have done this somewhere in windows. maybe somehow you will be able to help me.
    thank you very much!!
    Agnieszka

thank you very much!! this helped me a lot with my first problem!!
what about the second? would you be able to help me as well?

  • Embeddable Fonts for EPUB?

I'm using ID CS6 to create EPUBs. When I try to export anything other than the usual Times New Roman, or other basic fonts, the fonts don't show up in the exported EPUB.
For instance, I've tried using Minion Pro, Warnock, Lucida, etc. and all I get at the other end is either a bizarre substitution, or Times New Roman.
Every paragraph and character in my ID docs is assigned a paragragh or character style, which includes export tagging, and usually a class. I've had people on forum boards tell me I'm foolish for assigning classes, but how else are you supposed to distinguish between two h2 styles with different attributes?
Rather than place text from Word, which I've noticed imports a host of other problems on export, I copy the text into a simple text editing program, make it plain text, then copy and paste into ID, then apply styles to format. The embed fonts checkbox is checked when exporting.
What am I missing? What qualifies as an embeddable font? I should mention that I am viewing the epub in ADE. Could this be the problem?
Update: Just noticed that none of the character styles I've tagged as span are coming through either. The em and strong character styles work, but nothing tagged span will be properly styled in the EPUB. I even tried applying styling to characters without creating a style and it doesn't work. For instance, SMALL CAPS come through as small caps.

What are your export settings? Where are you viewing the EPUB? Have you cracked it open to see if there is a fonts folder? Does the CSS show the proper font.
Finally, nothing wrong with a class if it has a purpose. For main body text you can use a p tag without a class. If the first paragraph after an h2 has a special format you can use h2+p to create that stylinging in the css. Of course, this assumes a knowledge of CSS and the willingness to crack open the EPUB to work on it.

  • Do you have hindi fonts for InDesign CS4 and if so how much are they?

Do you have hindi fonts for InDesign CS4 and if so how much are they?

Adobe does offer a few Unicode fonts that support Hindi  I'd expect that you'd be asking for Devanagari fonts, though. Have you ever done any Hindi typesetting? I mean, when we typeset English we don't do it in "English fonts" but in "Latin-script fonts."
There are two main classes of Devanagari fonts - the more common, older fonts where someone took a Latin-script font, erased the characters, and replaced them with Devanagari glyphs, versus contemporary Unicode fonts. The first class are wonky, hard to use, and quite common. If you're in-country you will find lots of ways to buy those kinds of fonts. You also can use them in InDesign without needing any scripts or plugins to turn on the World-Ready Composer. I find Unicode fonts to be much easier to use, to automatically compose according to proper rules regarding behavior of glyphs - but to use them in CS4, you'd need something like World Tools or IndicPlus. I'm a World Tools user myself but if you're going to be doing only Hindi work in CS4, I'd suggest that you look at IndicPlus first.
In short - it's deeper than it looks. If you want to tell us more about what you're trying to do, we might be able to give you better advice.

  • [Solved]urxvt does not search the font for emojis while gnome-terminal

Hi, I'm using urxvt and am having some problems setting up fonts. These are my URxvt parameters specifying the fonts
    URxvt*font: xft:Inconsolata-dz for Powerline:style=Semibold:pixelsize=14:antialias=true:hinting=slight, \
    xft:PowerlineSymbols:pixelsize=14:antialias=true:hinting=slight, \
    xft:Symbola:pixelsize=14:antialias=true:hinting=slight
Now, the emojis from Symbola does not appear and it only appears as a box
The same thing when opened in Gnome-terminal properly displays the emojis
Also, I have tried starting urxvt with the following options
    urxvt -fn "xft:Symbola"
and it works but as you see Symbola is not a font for your terminal.
What am I doing wrong here? I've check my previous lines and it is right. Do you guys have any ideas? Much appreciated. I have also tried with other posts stating that Urxvt cannot display symbols properly and have tried them all. If I've missed any please let me know. The strange thing is that it works for Gnome-terminal and Urxvt with only Symbola fonts

Make sure the System Locale is set to utf-8 locale.
    This sometimes is the issue.
Many thanks for your reply, I've checked the system locale is proper. I think I have found the solution.
I think the official rxvt-unicode faq and documentation here states that rxvt-unicode drops pixels while showing some fonts because different fonts use different height and width. In this particular case, Symbola font is too wide and the default letterSpace does not allow it to display correct. If -letsp parameter is set to 4, it is displaying but with about a half pixel missing
    The specific parameters for .Xresources
    URxvt*font: xft:Inconsolata-dz for Powerline,xft:Symbola
    URxvt*letterSpace: 4
And this gives this which technically solves the issue
The documentation clearly states the following
All of this requires that fonts do not lie about character sizes, however: Xft fonts often draw glyphs larger than their acclaimed bounding box, and rxvt-unicode has no way of detecting this (the correct way is to ask for the character bounding box, which unfortunately is wrong in these cases).
I guess the first thing one should do is to check the documentation thoroughly of the official project page rather than searching countless forums where people have discussed stuff based on trial and error. I guess that's a classic rookie mistake and I feel very good that I'm moving past the rookie phase

That's nice. Tomorrow you will have 28 days.
What kind of ACC do you have? Nobody that reads posts is omnipotent or has ESP or can read your mind.
Also if you want to converse in English then you need to learn English to the point that you can actually write constructive sentences and paragraphs in English including the proper use of Upper Case, Lower Case and punctuation to some degree.
Otherwise write in your own language on a translator like google translate and paste the translation into your post.
Also you would notice that this forum was supposed to be retired 8/22/2008 if you'd read the stickies in it before posting to it. Which I would suppose is why almost all questions in it go unanswered.

  • How do I purchase Adboe fonts for distribution across a 5000+ user University. Licenses required?

My University is updating its 'Visual Identity Guidelines' and I am trying to find out the proper way to go about purchasing fonts for 'official' use and distribution to staff users across a large institution.
I see Volume Licensing for programmes but not for fonts. Can anyone advise?
    Thanks in advance

    TerriTea-
Our Volume Licening program provides for volume licensing of Font Folio 11.1 only.  You are correct that we don't license individual fonts via this program.
However, we would be happy to quote you on a customized volume license for any specific fonts you want.  Please respond to me directly below, indicating the total number of users, information about your institution, as well as the specific typefaces and weights you have interest in.  I will see that the proper sales people respond to your query.

  • 5800 XM, Ovi Maps 3.03, larger fonts for street na...

I have a 5800 XM with Ovi Maps v 3.03. Is it possible to make the street names larger in size? The street names are only 1 milimeter in height in both 2D and 3D view, regardless of zoom level. I am aware there is the street name you are currently on in the center top section in a larger font size, which definately helps, but it would be nice to have the larger fonts for surrounding streets.
Also, is there a way to get rid of the white bar on the right side that houses the "search" and "menu" links? The 5800's screen is already small for GPS standards, and this white bar subtracts almost 1 cm of valuable screen real-estate. It would be nice to not have the white bar and have the "search" and "menu" links stay where they are, but perhaps have a white highlight around the letters or something like that.

    Enjoy...
    1.    install Font Creator Program 5.6 (Can use evaluation version)
    2.   open ture type font what ever you like
    3.   Do as attached JPG 1-2
    4.   Save & Exit
    5.   change font name to Nokia card \ cities\ font name and replace it (Can change different to names as more as  your Nokia has)
    Enjoy...

  • ICloud has my old Apple ID and is prompting for a password, but I want to put in the new id, I can't because it is grey and there is no edit option.  I'm prompted for a password to an account that doesn't exist

iCloud has my old Apple ID and is prompting for a password, but I want to put in the new id, I can't because it is grey and there is no edit option.  I'm prompted for a password to an account that doesn't exist.  Anyone know what I can do to fix this or why this is happening.?  I had no issue putting in my new Apple ID everywhere else, I could sign out of the old and inactive account and then sign back in using my new and proper one.  However, after the update to 7.3 it did a whole welcome to yr iPad and a set up thing and it went to set up iCloud and had my old Apple ID in grey where I can't change or edit it, it wants the password, when I put in the old password, it say yr Apple ID is incorrect but yet it won't let me change it??????? Anyone???

Sign out and back into your apple id from Settings>iTunes and App stores>(Your apple ID)>Sign Out and then sign in again with the new address. Close app store from running in the background (or restart the phone if your unsure how to do this). If when trying to update any apps they are still asking for the old apple ID, delete and re-install those apps.

  • Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"? (OSX 10.10)

Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"?
I can change it for one conversation, but then it resets to the default, tiny font.
The preferences menu only lets me change the conversation font.
    (OSX 10.10)

    Hi,
As you may remember there used to be a Messages pane to the Preferences where the Font and colour of the Balloons or background and the Font text colour could be changed.
And there was a Format Menu for character, word and Sentence changes in the current IM or iMessage.
Those have gone in Yosemite's version of Messages (Despite it retaining the designation of Messages 8 the same as Mavericks' version).
All that can be done now is set the size of the font and this has been moved to the General Section of the Preferences.
The Yosemite version has also been fixed to using the Balloons style of send and receiving any type of messages as well.
Changing the Font would involved editing the Balloon.transcript file.

  • How do I find the font for a specific character in a textItem?

I'm writing a script that builds a font list for an open document. While I could have lookup the fonts for the file as a whole, my goal is to iterate over specific layerSets to build a font list from. The issue I'm facing, is that referencing:
    app.fonts[text[n].textItem.font].name
Only pulls the font name of the first character of the textItem. I need to get the names of all the fonts in the textItem, and while I can successfully loop through each of the letters, they do not have the character attributes associated with them.
    I tried this: app.fonts[text[n].textItem.contents.font].name
As well as many iterations of a similar idea, and I cannot get it to pull the font name, as it's not an attribute of each character. I apologize if this is a remedial question, but I'm a bit of a novice with javascript in Adobe programs.
For an example of what I'm trying to acheive, I was easily able to do this in illustrator, by using the following statement:
    fontName = text.characters[j].characterAttributes.textFont.name;
When placed in a loop, this goes through each font in the text Layer.

This should get a list of the fonts used in Type Layers in the selected Group.
    // get list of fonts used in the active group;
    // based on code by paul riggott;
    // 2014, use it at your own risk;
    #target "photoshop-70.032"
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {
