No, this is not possible. You will have to periodically check to see if a new alias is found.

It occurs to me from reading the above that it makes sense to let the device (using your words) connect to either the 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz band based on its capabilities and distance in relation to the router as I can see / understand the downside and issue of manually pointing to or selecting a specific network.
The reason that I purchased an Apple router is the hope that it will work better than some of the other routers I have tried as far as the 5 GHz / 2.4 GHz dual banding is concerned because in most of these cases I have had to disable the 5 GHz band to maintain a reliable internet connection...hopefully the Aiport Extreme will not require me to do so [i.e. it will work]!
With respect to *BOTH* the Primary Network and the Guest Network being dual band I can only conclude that this work because there are essentially two separates networks [i.e. 10.o.x.x and 172.16.x.x] that are using the send / receive configuration capabilities.

How to specify when Full Garbage Collections occur in the Old Generation

Hi. We seem to be having a problem with a number of JVMs (1.5.0_17-b04) that run a component of a Document Management application. This component stores a large amount of information in caches which reside in the Old Generation. Although these cache sizes can be somewhat controlled by the application, they are currently taking about 85% of the Old Generation space. Fortunately, very few objects get tenured into the Old Generation - they all are cleaned up in the New Generation space.
The problem we are seeing is that with the Old Generation at 85% full, there are constant full GC's occurring. Since the caches cannot be removed, the system frantically tries to remove objects that can't be removed.
We have three solutions in mind. The first is to increase the memory allocation to the Old Generation so that the caches take a smaller percentage of the available memory allocation. The second would be to decrease the size of the caches; but this is set more by the number of documents in the application and cannot be made much smaller.
The third solution is to configure the JVM so that Garbage Collections in the Old Generation do not occur until the memory is more than a specific percentage of memory in the Old Generation. We would then set this percentage to be higher than the amount of memory being used by the caches.
So, is it possible to tell the JVM to only run a Full GC when the memory in the Old Generation is greater than a specific value (say 85% full)?

When syncing iOS devices to iTunes, the memory allocations shown in iTunes are all over the place

There must be threads about this, but apologies for my inability to find any.
As the title says: I plug my iPhone or iPad into my iMac, and when I look at the memory allocation as displayed in iTunes, 6GB or whatever are free. Then I sync again, and suddenly 8GB are free. Sync again, and now 2GB are free - even though nothing has changed. I get this with both iOS devices.
Additionally, often what iTunes shows has no relationship to what the device says when I go into Settings: last week iTunes believed there were 0GB in Photos - because after all I had erased them! - but the iPad recorded 25GB, somehow.
Is this a known issue, or is something screwy with my system?

Thanks, but that's not really the issue. I do manage it manually - I've got a lot of smart lists, smart photo albums, and so on, all set up to sync with the iOS devices.
The problem is that the iPhone/iPad memory, as displayed in iTunes when the device is plugged in, seems to be very inaccurate and variable. When I plug the iPhone or iPad in, iTunes tells me (for example) that, with current settings, 5GB will be free. It syncs, and then suddenly 2GB are free. I sync again - changing nothing, so there should be no change in memory allocation - and suddenly 6GB are free. Somehow, despite syncing no books at all, there's a bizarre 60MB "Book" that iTunes tells me is sometimes on the iPhone, and sometimes not. That little stretch of purple just suddenly appears some days.
At times it tells me it's too full and can't sync at all. So I wipe, for example, 6GB off the "too full" iOS device, and after doing that suddenly 10GB are free, so I put the 6GB back on no problem. And after I add that 6GB back on, maybe there are 8GB free, or maybe 2GB, or maybe 4GB. In my world, 10GB-6GB=4GB, but iTunes is using quantum arithmetic or something.
Wiping a lot of photos off was great fun. I had iTunes unsync and remove all photos - so, in that line at the bottom, all the photo memory allocation disappeared. Cool. Mission accomplished. Then I clicked to another tab in iTunes, and suddenly the photo memory jumped back up to 15GB. Looked back in the Photos tab - nope, I'd told it to sync no photos at all. Checked the iPhone itself: oh, neat. 25GB of photos, despite not syncing any. Eventually, after repeating the process several times, all the photos were eventually gone, but the whole process was bizarrely complicated.
Basically, when I plug the iPhone or iPad into iTunes, iTunes seems to have no idea what the memory allocation actually is - which occasionally makes syncing complicated.
It's not a giant issue, but it's quite annoying - and I'm wondering if this is just me, or if this is a common issue. I think this issue may also be discussed in some of the "can't delete songs" or "can't delete photos" threads, but some of those threads are so long and cover so many different problems that they're kind of hard to read.

How do you turn on Mail Notifications when Mail is not listed in the INCLUDE or DO NOT INCLUDE list of apps?

A week ago, the Mail app wouldn't display any messages. After restarting the phone, it still would not display any messages, it would just quit. Then eventually it opened with messages displayed. But then Mail notifications disappeared, and is not even listed in the Notification Center. How can Mail be "re-listed"?

I checked some other discussions and doing a reset by holding the power and home button helped the Mail app to appear in the Notifications list again

LC / Solaris Errors occured during the installation : null

Hi all,
I'm installing LC with WebLogic on a Solaris server. Everything seems to goes right till the end of the process when I get "Errors occured during the installation" and the error message is "null". It's not actually helpfull...
I've checked the installation folder permissions : 777 so it seems to be right too.
The only weird thing I see is that the serial number I have to use seems to be for Windows : "Adobe LiveCycle ES Win WebLogic", but it worked because it allowed me to install a bunch of applications.
I'm logged as root.
Any idea ?

I have a user on an iMac 10.6 connected to our domain. She uses Outlook web access for email on our exchange server. Last week she received the following message which is randomly preventing her from sending emails. She claims no attachment was involved in the original email when this all started. I have not been able to look at her account as she is out of the office but maybe someone else dealt with this issue. I realize this may not be Mac related but thought I'd give it a try. She did say it occurred once over two days while working on a PC but it continued over the past weekend.

This is because F-Secure Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange has detected a virus in the attachment. If the user tries to send the message again, the message will be sent but without the attachment. At the same time a blank message with an attachment named "Attachment_information.txt" will remain in the user's Drafts folder. The "Attachment_information.txt" will contain information about the virus detected in the message.

PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Thank you for your interest. I use apple mail to access my two accounts -I guess they are 3rd party accounts. One is a gmail acount and the other is a bigpond account. I admit to a lack of a high level of literacy when it comes to the language around all of this. For example, I am aware that I have an iCloud email account as I managed to set it up, but don't really understand the purpose of it as the last thing I need is yet another email account to oversee.

1. you may have to take it in to Apple and get an out of warranty iphone for $199.
2. you can get your information from a backup of your phone. you do have a backup of your phone right either in iTunes or icloud. If you don't then your answer will be no.

We are building new portlets in .NET 2.0 to that access the ALI 6.5 server API and are experienceing the folowing scenario:
I create a brand new project in Visual Studio (2005 with SP1 on Win2k3 R2 SP2) using the ALI Portal Project template that is provided with the application accelerator 1.1. This portlet will need to perform portal server searches so I begin by adding references to the following assemblies from C:\bea\alui\ptportal\6.5\bin\assemblies:

opencounters.dll
opencache.dll
openhttp.dll
openssl.dll
opentempfile.dll
plumtreeserver.dll
ptportalobjects.dll
I then type in something like below to start up the portal server objects.

Some moments later Visual Studio will crash. It has happened before I have entered any code, after I have started typing code and on builds. It seems intermittent but usually occurs within a minute of interacting with this Visual Studio project. I actually managed to build once and have had success accessing this page in Explorer to validate the portal server objects are getting initialized and referenced correctly.
I thought this was a problem with my personal development environment. So I tried this on other machines: another Win2k3 ALI 6.5 dev portal server and another server with Visual Studio 2005 that I installed the 6.5 portal on just for testing this. The exact behavior listed above is occurring on three development machines here (crashing devenv.exe when portal references are made or loading a project with portal references). Since this does not seem to be isolated to a single development machine, is there any course of action that anyone would suggest to help solve this?

It turns out that this is only a problem with Visual Studio using the ALI templates or creating any projects using the "New... Web site" functionality of 2005. I was a ble to create a C#... ASP.net Web Application project and add the references to the idk and the local portal server APIs manually without devenv.exe crashes.
So, the work around I have found if your projects needs to access both the portal server API and the remote API is to create the project with:
New... Project... Visual C#... ASP.NET Web Application
and NOT
New... Web Site... ASP.NET Web Site (or ALI Portlet Project)
Anyone know why this is the case?
