A PDF app

Anyone know of an app where you can open a PDF file and write directly on it, not type? Or do you know of a way to get it so you can write directly on the file? It is for my daughter and her homework when it gets sent to my email it is a PDF and she can't complete it without printing and finishing it that way. Trying to eliminate the printing and paper so she can finish it on her iPad.

yes it does
It turns out that Acrobat Reader does NOT allow handwritten annotations. It's really fairly limited compared to apps like PDF Expert, iAmnotate and GoodReader. Oh, we'll.

  • Text-to-speech no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.5.

Text-to-speech is no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.4/5.  Does anyone know the software component that passes highlight text over to the speech synthesiser?   How is this process different in PDF's compared to any other text format?
So far I have tried Preview, Skim, PDFView, Safari, Evernote and Adobe Reader with the result: silence.  The only defference being Adobe Reader which speaks the name of the document and not the highlighted text.  I've re-applied the Mac OS10.8.5 como-update, fixed prefs, ran FSCheck and changed user.  I've tried every method of triggering the text-to-speech function (including custom scripts). Text-to-speech works perfectly in every other respect exept when working with PDF's. When Maveriks arrives I will do a clean install and rebuild my data manually which I'm pretty certain will fix the problem but it would be extremely rewarding to find an actual solution and learn something in the process.

Rawr! I got it to work, sort of. I think I tried so hard because I hated the thought of using alsa-oss. And I discovered a couple bugs in spd-conf! Does anyone care? lol
Basically, I redid my TTS-related configs & put them under ~/ instead of /usr/share, and ran "festival --server" & "speech-dispatcher -s" as a normal user. I also added myself to the "audio" group somewhere along the line, but I don't think that was the issue.
I'm almost afraid to reboot, because, although speech-dispatcher can be started at boot-time through rc.conf's DAEMONS array, I don't think festival can---at least, not in the same way as it can on distros that have the script /etc/default/festival. I'm about to see if I can track down that file, and hope I don't break everything somehow.
KTTSMgr still doesn't see any synthesizers, but I got past the "dummy module" message. Now I'm hoping I'll get some help from someone who actually knows what to do (as opposed to me).
    Take care, all
    H
P.S One small complaint: Although my speechd.conf specified port 6561, speech-dispatcher's tests showed that it was looking for a connection on port 6560 first, before scanning to find the real port. I had to change to port 6560 to stop the behaviour, even though I never customized the port number in the first place.

  • In iBooks or other pdfs apps markings/highlights of ebook recorded by itunes at sychs

In iBooks or other pdfs apps, markings/highlights of ebooks done when reading, recorded by itunes after sychronization?

    Further to above
    Progress Notable!
But before I outline the details, I wish to apologise to APPLE for laying the blame at their doorstep for loosing or misplacing those PDFs I have on the iPad 1, when I set up my iPad Air , by restoring from the backup of iPad 1, thus copying all data from the old to the new.
NOT REALLY THEIR FAULT AT ALL
Because a lot of the many PDFs had the same name, ie PDF.pdf, probably my fault more than anybody else's, so I can't blame APPLE for that. Just goes to show one should be a little more precise in creating these portable documents.
No wonder the poor program " lost its' marbles" when doing the updating and conversion/transfer.
However, I was able to recover most of them by personal email, and extracting and RENAMING the PDFs as I located them in their new home.
Those PDFs that we're locked an thus not email-able , I will deal with by
    Viewing
Photoeing (if that's how you spell it).
And re-building the PDF from the photos, in unlocked format, after transferring these files either by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, from the old to the new iPad.
So all is not lost, and I am thankful that my cautious approach to this matter in the first place, gave me the ability for this successful recovery.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I hope this little story of my saga/experience may prove helpful to others yet to cross the chasm of updating.
    Regards to all, including APPLE.
    NICE STUFF YOU MAKE.

  • Recommendations for PDF app?

I get pdf's sent to me that I need to work with to some extent.
I'm looking for an app that would let me open the pdf, select some or all of it.
Then copy that into a Pages document.
    Print support would be nice.
Sometimes I get a pdf that is a 'Form'. With fields that have certain requirements for input.
It would be nice to be able to fill those out, save them, and e-mail them back.
I do use Acrobat on Windows to create new pdf's. That might be something I would do.
If it could do that, it would be a bonus.
    Thanks for any advice!

Although Adobe Reader is the “official” PDF app, Adobe was late to the AppStore party and only recently updated its app to include annotation capabilities. Despite the delay, Adobe Reader is still a good app, and by far the best free option for PDF annotation. Adobe Reader isn’t limited in any way, and allows users to add “sticky notes” (with the ability to mark yourself as the author), free-hand drawing, and signatures. However, the app has some very significant detriments: (1) it does not allow you to add text outside of a note, (2) no cloud connectivity (users can only import files via iOS’s “open in” function), and (3) no undo or redo (it is possible to delete annotations manually). Despite these minuses, Adobe Reader will likely be enough for many people, or at least a good introduction to the world of PDF annotation.

  • "Save to Adobe PDF" app

Just upgraded my iMac at work to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.... finally!!!!
But still running CS4 with Acrobat 9 (v9.5.2)
I edit master files using MS Word that are saved on my local server.
I distribute those files as PDFs saved to another server.
When updating files under Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, printing with the PDF printer driver, I had a very fast simple work flow:
Cick Print (Adobe PDF Printer was the default),
       navigate to the desired folder,
click on the file to replace and then
       click Replace.
But under Snow Leopard, this workflow is now messed up:
       Click Print
Click Continue in Save to Adobe PDF popup menu
       navigate to the desired folder
This is where the mess really starts.
If the file is new, not an update, and I just want to save it, "Microsoft Word - " is always prepended to the file name, and there is always a dual extension: ".docx.pdf" So I **always** have to edit it.
If the file is being saved as an update, when I click on the file to update, the file name no longer has an extension, not even a hidden one, just nothing at all. This is OK as far as Macs are concerned, the file still shows as a PDF file in Get Info. But Windows PCs (where these files will be used) no longer have a clue as to file type. So I **always** have to type ".pdf" after the file name.
Finally I can click Save or Replace
And, if for any reason, I click "Cancel", Save to Adobe PDF **always** says "an error occurred while saving the PDF".
So... in this day and age, why isn't this any smarter???? Why is this app making me work more????
    1) Is there any way to bypass the annoying unwanted PDF Settings/PDF Creation popup menu so I don't **always** have to click Continue??? Why isn't there a Preferences / Options menu item for this so I can pull it up only when needed???? Why always interrupt my workflow????
    2) Is the default file name with "Microsoft Word - "  prepended to it an Adobe action or an MS Word action???? Who do I complain to about this??? Its possible that this is an MS Word abberation, as test prints in MS Excel and Mozilla Firefox don't show this problem.
    3) Why do I have to keep screwing around with extensions???? Can't someone do some intelligent programming to make this simple and automatic for the user??????????????
    4) in the normal course of pressing offered buttons such as Cancel, I should never see an error pop up.
Now, when I get home today, where I'm running Mac OS X 10.7 Lion with CS5, I'll have to see if this is any smarter.

    Hi,
Are you still experiencing this issue. Let me know what is the version of Adobe application installed on your machine.
    Regards,

  • PDF App works fine on Acrobat 7 but doesn't work in Acrobat 8/9

    Hello,
I have a PDF application that has been working fine in Acrobat 7 for years (for a Fortune 50 company). We had to upgrade our environments to Acrobat 8/9 and the same app either HANGS or Shuts Down when opened in Acrobat 8/9 (Reader and Professional). When I timed some sections of the code, I got down to the following statement (Click action of a button):
    xfa.host.resetData(Home.APHomeSF.somExpression)
Where Home is a subform on page 1 and APHomeSF is a subform within Home form. This statement takes a fraction of a second in Pro 7 but 18 seconds in Pro 8. The APHomeSF subform has a checkbox, text field, date field and a button. Even when I changed the reset statement to resetting ONLY the checkbox:
    xfa.host.resetData(Home.APHomeSF.FCB.somExpression)
Pro 8 still took 18 secs to reset the data.  My question is that have any BASIC things changed in Acrobat 8/9 from Ver 7 that are deprecated or not supported, which may cause our application to take longer to run or just shut down.
I am using Livecycle Designer to edit the application. When I open the application in Livecyle and just save it, I get many "Argument mismatch in property or function argument" errors. Following is one of the places:
    Generating PDF Document...
Font Service: Default font typeface is Myriad Pro.
Script failed (language is javascript; context is xfa[0].form[0].CopyContent[0].#subform[0].SPOA[0].SPOAdataRow[0])
    script=viahScripts.noViahNulls();
    var groupsArray = Builder.variables.soScript.getGroupsArray();
    var name = CopyElementName.rawValue;  // PROBLEM LINE
Error: Argument mismatch in property or function argument
Now, when I delete the line "var name = CopyElementName.rawValue" with the comment PROBLEM LINE, the error goes away. CopyElementName is just a drop-down list.
I don't understand what is wrong in this line for it to cause the Argument mismatch error.
Any help will be appreciated.... THANKS!

You should post this in the LiveCycle Designer forum.

  • Looking for a PDF app for iPad

    Hi,
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this so I'm a believer that someone has created an app to help me and I can't find it!
Pretty much, I'm looking for an app that will allow me to edit PDF's on my ipad and then send it (Via WiFi or Bluetooth) to my laptop.
    For example:
Drawing a graph on my ipad, with detailed information, sending that to my macbook and then adding/inserting it to my PDF file on my laptop
(Like getting a notification on my mac, loading it, draging it to my pdf, and vola!)
If there is such a thing can someone help me out (If not feel free to take my idea and makes some money off of it, just let me know that you did!)
    Thanks

    Hey there
"pdf creator" for iPad works flawlessly for me working with pdf files
It takes care of all my needs
I'm not sure about sending via Wifi or Bluetooth but I send them via e- mail all the time
Possibly it could handle your needs as well
Just type it into the App Store search field and the first one that comes up is the one I use
Jump on over there and read up on it before buying and see if it will help you
    Hope this helps
    Regards

  • Margin problem when printing on ipad from pdf app

On 4500g there is no top margin and very small left margin when printing from pdf printer app on my ipad. Where can i set margins before printing?

    Hello Leonie1938,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
If I understood correctly, you are printing from an iPad to the Officejet 4500 G510g using a .PDF printer App. If this is correct, what is the App name? I searched and found an App called PDF Printer for iPhone for $2.99, is this the App?
If you are not using a HP App, all I can offer is to clean the rollers on the printer. This is best done by following steps here: The All-in-One Does Not Pick Up or Feed Paper, Solution four.

  • Ipad PDF app that will allow printing of only the part of the form that is filled in?

I have a specific job I would like to do with an ipad... I need to be able to fill out a current PDF form and print out only the part that I typed.  It will be printed on a ready made, pre-printed form. Is there an app for this? I have tried PDFReader Pro, GoodReader, pdf-notes, Documents 2, FileApp, and Touch-Fill-Go.  I also looked into PDF Expert but their tech support said that it would also print the entire form. I also need it to clear the form and not save it as I need to use it over many times.  The "job" is a medical record form that has been created in adobe acrobat to be used with a computer.  Our records are still in paper form so the patient medical record sheet is preprinted with the client info.  So, if the dr (me) wants to use an ipad to type up the medical record we only want that typed portion showing when printed onto the patient current medical record sheet.  Basically this works great with a pc or mac but I would like to use an iPad. I hope I haven't been too confusing. Thank you.

Since the documents are on the server and not your work computer it doesn't matter that your work computer is off.
Usually computers on a work network are firewalled from the internet. Without knowing the details of your network it is impossible to know wether it is possible. Perhaps you should speak to the IT person at your work.
If it is possible you will probably need an app that can access the documents on the server using a compatible protocol. I am not aware of an app that handles standard Windows file sharing. Goodreader can do ftp and webDAV. You may require something like webDAV enabled on the server.
