A pdf saved to my work file disappeared from my computer when I closed it. What is going on?

This has now happened twice -- yesterday and today. I have never had this problem before. I have a PC that uses Windows 8.1. Even a find of the computer cannot find the lost documents. Please let me know if there is any way to find them.

Hi, Bill:I had received a pdf via email to work on and did a Save Us to put the pdf into my file for the client. I have done this numerous times over the years without a problemA few days ago, however, despite saving the file in the client's folder, the two pdfs completely disappeared when I closed the file before attaching them to the email I was about to send. This has never happened before! I did a find on my computer, but they were completely gone. Also, they did not show up in Adobe's Recent Documents feature.
Do you have an idea of what might have happened? Since their loss, I have been double saving the documents in two place.

I opened one of the .calendar folders. There was a folder named Events which had either one or some files ending .ics. I opened several of these, which put up a dialogue window showing some parameters with data strings attached as follows :-

Photoshop CC crashes, and my working file disappears from the network

I was just wondering, has anyone ever had Photoshop CC crash, and then realize the file you were working on disappeared off the network?
I've had other files where it created a 'recovered' file upon reopening of Photoshop, but the one that crashed it, is gone...
is there a way to allocate/recover that missing file?

There is typically no way to get back lost files, short of restoring backups. I hope your administrator is backing up your server regularly.
May I suggest you change your working habits to avoid working on files directly on your network server. Instead, copy the file to your local PC with your OS tools (e.g., Finder) and work on it there, save it there, then when you are done copy it back to the network server.
Adobe always advises not to save files directly to the network, because of the possibility that things can go wrong and data be lost.

PLEASE HELP!! iTunes has disappeared from my computer. Have no idea what happened. Won't let me download new itunes.

You can probably fix it by running chkdsk, as explained in this other thread. It makes sense, if you didn't remove itunes yourself and it can't be reinstalled/repaired, something went seriously wrong on the PC's hard drive. Perhaps the chkdsk utility can fix it.

All of my PDF files disappeared from iBooks on my iPad. Where and why did they suddenly disappear? How can I retrieve them?

As far as I can work out, from incomplete downloads, ticks denote all downloaded ok.
The manually manage option is for those who want to tailor their library collections in Music and Video to specific items. If you have this ticked, then it will sync with the sync selections in your devices pages (eg, Music, videos).
If you want to sync all of your collection 'all' the time, leave manually manage off and put the a tick in the devices' page to sync all items Dependent on iCloud use, and or automatic download options in iTunes, new purchased items are added and synced automatically as they are added - this only applies to Store purchased items.
If you are going to added content outside of the Store, then Manually Manage is the option to take for Music and Videos - it does not affect anything else. IE Apps or podcasts, etc.
If you have manually manage off, and 'selected playlist' option ticked, then it will sync existing ticked items, but new items downloaded will require you tick them (a) after the next iTunes automatic download when it connects to the store and downloads any items, or (b) you download to a device and then sync the device, in which case it transfers the new download to your library - but, as happened to you, deletes it from your idevice.
Retcicking and resyncing will add the item back on next sync.
Don't forget that whenever making any kind of manual change to hit Apply and resync, to stop changes being lost.
However, and i cannot stress this enough, iTunes is very problematic, especially when handling large collections. Its sync operations can be erratic or non-functional at times (even buggy perhaps)
If all options fail, then go to your program installation control folder (Control panel\Programs etc on windows) and select to repair iTunes.

When I do a search, the file comes up under the new name, but it does not show a path, and even though preview shows the contents, I can't open the document (Powerpoint) and I can't move the document. I tried "Copy" and paste but it doesn't work. I tried "Share" with Airdrop and iChat, but the file is inaccessible. When i try to rename the file, it says the filename is too long.
When I try to open it, it says the alias is not good, and asks if I want to fix the alias. I'm afraid to do that and lose all access to this document.
Right now, it feels like a ghost document - it is on the computer intact, but it is in an undisclosed location and inaccessible.
Please help!!

I was able to resolve this by repairing permissions, even though no permissions error was listed specifically for that file.
I could also have recovered it through Time Machine, but I'm interested in knowing how not to have this happen again!
I was afraid of rebooting and possibly losing track even of the ghost.
I did not try EasyFind - I'll keep that in mind next time.

My existing Desktop files disappeared from displaying on the Desktop--the files still exist, and newly added files appear on the Desktop; I did not enter any "hide my files" command. How do I have them display? Running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist. Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

After saving, word documents have been disappearing from my macbook air. Have checked outlook temp files, temporary files don't show them, can't find them anywhere. Includes coursework files that I have lost because I don't back up regularly. Even the finder cannot find them, word recent documents doesn't show them. 100% positive I saved htem. Then type in private/var/folders then enter.

If a file with the same name is saved again then a version is created. You can see versions from the Files page at https://creative.adobe.com/files. From the Files page click on the file to go to its page. Switch from the Details tab to the Activity tab if needed. You will see the Current Version and any past versions.

Deleted Files disappeared from external drive but space is still occupied ( iMac )

I have this problem.
Whenever I delete items from my external hard drive, using iMac (running mavericks), the files disappear from the drive window but their space will be still occupied. if i format the drive using my mac, everything will disappear & the whole drive capacity would be available for use.

Unless you empty the trash while the external is attached, the files will remain in the trash. You will gain back your space after you empty it.

Help!! My linked text file disappears from the links palette

I've set my preferences so that InDesign creates a link when placing text and spreadsheet files, and when I first place the file it appears in the Links palette just fine.
However, as soon as I make a change in the original text file, it disappears from the Links palette!
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm using CS2.

Disable "This file comes from another computer"

Hi, on all my adobe forms when i click on the properties, I see the message
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer"
ever since i started getting this message, adobe forms don't work anymore and throws an error that the document properties have changed. I searched for a solution for this, but found many for fixing on Vista enterprise, but i run a vista home basic version. What do i need to do to resovle this issue that i can start using adobe forms again.

I have to agree with others here. I have also encountered this same issue today. Cannot even download a friggin PDF. Absolutely ridiculous. Stop with all this security crap, because all it does is slow down
my workforce while they all try and figure out whats going on. We as users do not write this software, MS does. So why is it we the users have to jump through a zillion hoops to make your crap work. You (MS) should be doing this.
I used Chrome and guess what....it just works. Safari...just works......firefox../.just works.....MS IE whatever version never works right
The ONLY reason I would still need IE, is if I need to get to some MS site where once again, MS has created the Monopoly situation where I can ONLY use IE to get to these sites. Utterly bogus. No wonder everyone is beginning to hate you.
Another item is your new Compatibility view. Another nightmare to deal with. Managing my domain through various web interfaces, and I am always having to switch between modes depending on the application. Another huge waste of time.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.

Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. Not unless they were saved somewhere on your computer. You can check the Time Machine if that storage has been used and wasn't reset as well.
