My first visit to the Discussion Boards was on 7/9/08 or 7/10/08. I came for some advice and was very happy to have finally found a place where people were willing to share what they know about all things Mac and also, what was then dotmac. The day after that MobileMe was released (we all know how that's been going so I won't rehash the details). Just for reference tho I would like to say that I was also out of service for more than a few days, and still have remaining issues with my mail. But I am willing to wait it out, let the crowds thin and then deal directly with support. Having said that...
I feel for you. And frankly you should be commended for your patience. Personally, I have already grown weary of what is going on in a couple of the forums. For me, when this all started, I thought that people being able to congregate in Discussions was a smart idea. Most people were trying to stay updated on information, helping each other through the transition, etc. Not everyone was a happy camper (including myself), but help, advice and support were flowing. Even in my limited experience, I enjoy helping someone if even just to post a link or direct them to a post that might help them. But it has become obvious that the Discussion Boards have been hijacked and the looters haven't left yet. It is close to impossible for anyone with a real question to get read, let alone get real help. And lots of posts seeking real help are being used for no other purpose than to repeat witty writings, bash and start 'tee-shirt clubs'? I'm all for consumer advocacy and understand the frustration... but I feel increasingly angry at the "Me,me,me, give me something free, I can act anyway I want" attitude that's being displayed in the boards. My last straw was yesterday when some poor guy in Iraq was trying to find out what was going on and all anyone could do was argue. So....
lest I get drawn into the ugliness, I think I will just peek in once in awhile and see if anybody has something to say that's worth hearing.
I don't blame you, not even for the deletion of posts. At this point I don't know what you could even do short of shutting down the boards or revoking peoples use. I hope this is over soon as I was just starting to get serious about using all my mac apps and get some long awaited projects going!
Thanks to all of you that have helped and educated me over the last 2 weeks. It was appreciated. And I look forward to the boards returning to a place where people can come and learn.

Thank you, MWN. You have expressed thoughts many of us have felt.
A "me, too" can be effective - as long as it is held to one or two sentences; it can help Apple's tech folk (yes, they do peruse these forums - they just don't usually respond) spot a general issue as opposed to an isolated, one-of-a-kind problem. If the person is having the identical problem, going into length about it when that info has already been posted in the Topic is a waste of time and space.
Ranting, generally complaining, etc., is conterproductive. Discussions is a user-to-user forum, not a user-to-Apple forum. If a thread opens with a rant, I usually won't read any further - I have better places to spend the bit of time I have available to volunteer here. Ranting and such belong in a blog somewhere, or in one of the many available other-site forums where verbal brawling is accepted.
I fail to see why someone asking for help would jump all over a person giving what help they can - bashing someone does nothing but drive that assistance, and help from others, away. If the help is not applicable, or does not work, move on - hammering the person who offered the suggestion does no good at all.

    Sun has a beta implementation available for download (http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/earlyAccess/personaljava/) which will allow you to run Personal Java on a MIPS/SH3/StrongARM or XScale device running WindowsCE 2.0 or greater. You can also download the Personal Java Emulation environment (http://java.sun.com/products/personaljava/pj-emulation.html) which will allow you to develop and run personal java applications in a Windows or Solaris environment.
    Most JDK1.1.8 compliant applications will run on Personal Java, so a Hello World program would look like the regular.

    You can also purchase a full blown commercial implementation of Personal Java for PocketPC at handango.com. Do a search on Insignia Jeode for Dell. You can use this on any PocketPC/XScale pda.
    To run a Personal Java program on Pocket PC. Deploy your jar to the Device and create a shortcut similar to this:

    The number is arbitrary, but the paths need to point to the directory where you installed Personal java and your jar/application respectively.

    I have five ipad ii products. Four of them I use in my classroom and one is for personal use.  How can I change my apple ID on my personal iPad and keep all of the apps (i.e. Kindle).  I do not want it connected to my school iPads. 

    All app purchases are permanently tied to their Apple ID. You will have to delete and repurchase the apps with a new ID. I would recommend wiping that iPad and setting it up with another ID.

    Hi Rosalia,
    You can only display attributes from the current entity and the entity or entities that it is contained by (the parent entities).
    So if you had the following data model
    Global
    ..the person
    ...the income
    the person is contained by global.
    the income is contained by the person (which is contained by global).
    If you want to create a person-level question screen, you can display global attributes on that screen by using subsitution like %global_field_1%. You cannot, however, input global attributes on that screen (ONLY attributes belonging to the person)
    If you want to create an income-level question screen, you can display attributes from the person such as "tell us about %person_name%'s income..." as well as global attributes. Again, you cannot input person or global attributes on that screen (ONLY attributes belonging to the income)
    However it only works from child-to-parent containment relationships! You cannot have a global question screen which loops through the person instances and displays attributes from the person, or from the income out-of-the-box.
    We have managed to implement this using custom controls.
    You can map individual attributes back up to the parent level, and then display them,
    such as
    the first person's name = InstanceValueIf(the people, the person's name, the person's id = 1)
    the first person's name is now a global attribute and can be displayed on global question screens.

  • Confusing Application of Archive and Retention Personal Tags and Policies

    I created some custom personal tags and applied it to the retention policy assigned to my account and started the managed folder assistant on my mailbox and when I saw the new tags in Outlook, I applied personal tags at the folder level of all of the folders
    in my Outlook 2010 profiles by right clicking on each folder, selecting Properties, then selecting Folder Policy, then selected the retention and archive policy I wanted and then clicked OK to save the settings.
    After about 15 minutes, I had finished going through all the folders, I went back to look at the folder properties and instead of showing the custom policies I just set, they have "Use Parent Folder Policy" selected on the Policy tab for both Folder
    Policy and Online Archive.  It looks like the settings are not being saved/applied or they are reverting back to defaults.  However, some messages show retention and archive dates and some messages are moving to my archive mailbox.
    This is confusing to me, so this looks like it is going to generate a large amount of tech support calls when we roll this out and it will be difficult to explain to end users how this works.
    Our retention policy does not contain any default archiving policy or retention policy on the Inbox (the 2 year default was not applied) to our policy.  So mail in the Inbox is not automatically moved unless a user applies a personal tag to archive
    and delete the messages.
    How is this supposed to work and how long does it take for folder policies to be applied from personal tags and then work as expected in Outlook?

    As for when the managed folder assistant runs, it depends on your Service Pack level.  For Exchange 2010 SP1 and later, the retention policies run 24x7 with a throttling policy applied to the Mailbox Folder Assistant.  Also, there is no guarantee
    that the managed folder process will necessarily finish in the time allotted.  In fact, there should be messages on the Exchange server side that document how many mailboxes were processed and I think, how many were not.
    For the timing in general, if a tag is applied, my understanding is that with the default settings it could be up to a day, if not longer until things begin processing. It depends on what window you have for retention policies to process, what might
    already be in the queue to process next, etc.
    For the Start and End date question, my assumption would be that on the day that it is supposed to start, it will be placed in the queue to be processed as soon as possible,  The same for the end date.

    In our system we have ship to address as partner function 27 in  shopping cart line item  .
    If all the line items in the same shopping cart have same address  then also we are getting different  address number , person number and address type in the partner functions of SC line items.
    In ship to partner function,  how the address number , person number and address type is decided?

    Ship to address no is set up at company level - you can also create a ship to address and you can main in the attribute ship to address.
    if you enter the ship to address manually then new address number might be created.
    What is the setting in your existing system.
    for eg. create a sc with 2 line item  let one from inherited ship to address and anothe ritem you undo them and enter new address.
    and click partner function 27 for line item 1 and 2 in the bbp_pd and it takes you to crmd_partner table and show you different address no.

    I'm finding it very interesting how personal loans are affecting my partners credit.Basically, NO Effect if not increasing score even a little more!He has no debt besides our monthly that's reporting and we PIF (usually somewhere around $10-$15k reports spread out over all the cards but that's with overlapping of some of my cards and what not)He took out a Sofi and Navy personal loan and his scores went up 5-10 points.... He just checked Advent for a personal loan and it denied for the recent INQ's but gave a TU Fico of 795!That's a lot of debt to have NO impact on credit score! Just thought I would share

    Luckily, if you be very careful and pay attention to what you have selected in itunes, you can separate these things
    Basically, in iTunes, there are tabs at the top for Summary, info, apps, etc..
    These tabs control PER DEVICE what syncs between itunes and the device.
    Therefore, you can plug iPhone 4S #1 in, and select to sync contacts with address book, then do so.  Then plug iPhone 4S #2 in, and not choose to sync with address book.  iTunes will keep these settings separate. However, in that situation for music and apps, you would check to sync both on both, in order to get all music and apps on each.
    The only thing to watch out for, each computer 'user' has only one set of address book and ical, meaning that if you want to sync both phones to the computer, but dont want to mix contacts, only one phone will be able to sync contacts and/or calendars.  Basically, each category in the Info tab will only hold one device's information, so you CAN do contacts with iPhone 4S #1, and calendars with #2.

    Just create a new AppleID for your work.
    As Allan suggested, items purchased on one iTunes account cannot be moved to the other account.
    However, you can put items purchased on on account onto the other iPhone.

    The answer is not simple. First, are these images in the Camera Roll or the Photos app? Next, do you have Photo Stream enabled? Also, do you back up your phone to your computer or to iCloud, or to both?
    If you have Photo Stream enabled then the images have already been distributed to anyone who is subscribed. Nothing that I can think of that you can do about that. The rest of this post assumes that Photo Stream was never turned on.
    If the images are in your Camera Roll you can delete them from the Camera app. The won't go anywhere, however, they will still be in your backups.
    If you back up to your computer using iTunes you can go to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab, and delete your backups. After deleting all of them, and also after you have deleted the images from the Camera Roll, do a new backup.
    After deleting the backups do a Secure Delete of deleted files on your computer. On a Mac you can do this with Disk Utility; have it erase deleted files. On Windows you need to get a 3rd party "shredder" app.
    If you back up to iCloud on the phone go to Settings/iCloud - Storage & backup - Manage Storage. Tap on each backup and delete it.
    If you have photos in the Photos app that are NOT in the Camera Roll album you need to connect your phone to iTunes, click on the Photos tab, uncheck all of them that you don't want (or uncheck Sync Photos if you want all of them gone), then sync.
    Then repeat all of the steps above.

    Because I can't delete the icloud account, I keep getting view terms to accept and it wants to go to the old company account.  I can't do anything to get rid of this - when I try to delete the icloud it wants me to delete find my ipad and asks for the old co. id and password - it's a vicious circle and i just want to get rid of it and start fresh with my regular personal email id and password!!!  Help!

    You will need that old Apple ID and password, which does indeed still exist. Apple doesn't delete Apple IDs, though if this ID was in the control of your company they may have changed the password. If so, you will need your former company to log into the iCloud account using that ID and password and erase the iPad or remove it from iCloud:

    Until that's done you cannot change those settings, and if you try to restore the iPad will have it locked with Activation Lock and thereafter be unusable.

    The camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I don't have a USB card reader. I did try and different port although not a different cable.
    I did remember one additional thing. I plugged my camera in at work to a PC. It was after that, when I came home, that the iPhoto wasn't working when I connected my camera to our iMac/iPhoto at home. I think this may have caused the problem.
