Here's what I'm trying to do....
It's really pretty simple (I think)... I have a USB I/0 device by Line6 called TonePort (I only care about the input from this device).
I'm trying to take a guitar signal through my TonePort into Logic Pro. Pretty basic stuff so far... but here's the catch... I want to monitor TonePort"s signal through on of my Logic's "record-enabled" tracks.... THROUGH MY LAPTOP'S BUILT IN SPEAKERS (I'm really not shouting I just wanted that point to stand out). In other words I want to be able to "record enable" a track within Logic Pro, insert a reverb effect, pick up my electric guitar, play it, hear the effect that TonePort adds to it PLUS my newly added reverb effect.... all through my laptop's speakers (without any additional wiring).
I've downloaded Jack OSX and I think it might have the capabilities to achieve what I'm trying to do. I'm just not that sure how to route everything (i.e. Audio Midi Setup, Apple's Sound pane, the proper "driver" to select in Logic, the proper routings within Jack's routing panel).
Have any of you all done anything like this? It almost seems elementary but I certainly can't seem to figure it out.

Here's what happened....
I created the aggregate device exactly as you instructed (TonePort, then Built-In). I then opened up Logic Pro and selected this aggregate device as my driver and made sure "Software Monitoring" was enabled. Then, I "record-enabled" my Logic, track with the reverb, and strummed my guitar. The Logic's track meter responded to the strumming but I couldn't hear any audio. (I tried playing back a previously recorded Logic track in this same project and I couldn't here that either). [FYI, this is the same behavior as if I simply have TonePort selected in my Logic's Driver menu, (i.e. meters working but no sound through my Laptop's speakers)].
So, I went back to my aggregate device and changed the order (Built-In, then TonePort). When I did that, I could hear my previously recorded track but Logic is no longer receiving my TonePort's signal.
I'm still holding out that Jack might fix this. Have you tried it? Any ideas? -Rob
p.s. Just out of curiosity... why does the order of the devices within the aggregate device change what happens? I'm new to this so I'm just trying to understand. Thanks.

Help...anyone that knows about ipods and computers
I use winamp to manage my ipod because itunes does not launch on my pc, anyway, everything's been working fine until today. I went to "my computer" and i right clicked on the icon IPOD:E and i clicked eject, thinking that it will only eject my ipod from the computer, but it's like it removed the ipod database from the computer, thinking that it would resolve the issue i restored my ipod, and then i went back to winamp only to fine that my ipod no longer is recognized by it...and i cant put back my songs on my ipod. If anyone out there knows about computers and electronics, please tell me what i did wrong and how i can fix it. Thanks
I ordered my 5G a few days after they were released. I also got mine engraved. After a few days the hold switch stopped working. Instead of dealing with Apple and mailing my iPod back and waiting for a replacement to arrive I went to the Apple store. The "genius" said they could return the unit and order another engraved one. I aksed for a in store replacement. I did not want to be with out an iPod while the new one is mailed to me. It was no problem. He went to POS and came back with a new iPod sealed in box, opened it up and handed it to me.

I am looking for a map app that will allow me to place pins where my clients offices are on a map and keep them save every time I open the app. Does anyone out there know of an app that will do this?

This is a "teaser" series to sell his tutorials but it is really good. Just saw it yesterday for the first time.
While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?

If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.

I was charging my iPad2 and when reaching 90% it just went black and can't be started again. Anyone that have had this problem and know what to do?
I have had this problem several times. The iPad comes off charging with a black screen and only a hard reset works to get it back. Then you have to go to settings to be sure nothing changed there.
I have had serveral hard resets and three restore operations and the problem recurs. I am not sure if it is the iPad2 or an app that is causing the problem. So far I can live with it as is.

Highlight the Ethernet option and click the gear icon at the bottom of the panel. There should be an option to, Make service inactive..... -

You need to purchase a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM. Run Software Update twice afterwards.
If you're already running Mac OS X 10.6, run Software Update until it gives you the option of installing iTunes 11.

Generally, that means the phone has been jailbroken (hacked). You can try restoring it as new using iTunes. Beyond that, there's really nothing we can advise as jailbroken phones can't be supported on these forums.

I've been researching threads from as far back as 2005 and apparently this problem has been going on unsolved for some time. When some phones (mine is an N96, but i've read all different Nokia models experiencing the same problem) are either reset or upgraded (in my case it was a reset) they develop the problem of not being able to download jar files. The file will look like it's loading but only makes it to about 3/4's of the way before a "cannot install this file" message appears. It takes about 15 to 20 seconds before the loading bar disappears and the message appears, but during the wait, the phone is crippled. Resetting the phone with soft or hard reset does nothing to solve the problem, I even tried the 3 finger reset and nada! Possibly, some file or files that allows the unit to download the jar files is missing, because of the reset. It has nothing at all to do with the files to be downloaded.It is in the phone. Someone out there has got to know if there is a file or whatever that can be reinstalled into the phone to reestablish jar file downloads again! There has to be a tech out there that knows exactly what files are responsible for giving Nokia phones the ability to download jar files. JL2
No prob. Ok! This is the answer that Nokia technical sent me. I just want to say that this is bull*h*t, because before I reset my phone I downloaded and used Jar only downloads. Trapster is one I lost. Also if you go on line you will read many people with s60 models experiencing the same thing . Anyway, here it is. [ I understand that you are unable to install .jar files on your Nokia N96 phone.
Rick, we manufacture different phones with different platform. Our earlier phones were S40 (Series 40) phone. Those phoneS supported .jar files or applications.
However, our smart phones S60 (Series 60) such as your Nokia N96 phone are compatible with .sis files or application. Due to the robustness, and compression capability of .sis format for S60 platform, we have no plans to revert to the old .jar platform for S60 phones.
Sis format allows us to add a wide range of features that are not available in the S40 .jar platform.

I am trying to create a schema to get an Excel workbook into xml so I can take that information and make a member list in inDesign CS6 so I don't have to type it by hand. This is the schema:

Can anyone that works wirth xml in inDesign help meI typically get XML from a database, or an Excel sheet without the troublesome XML mapping. Once I simply received an Access database. Access spits out XML in a mostly usable state.
I use an XML editor that converts the Excel sheet to XML, do any needed transformations, search and replaces, etc in the editor, then save it as an XML I use in ID. The editor is XML Blueprint. I often do other manipulations using UltraEdit as I have long used it for programming and am comfortable with it.
I did a test in Excel's requisite mapping and found it so cumbersome I didn't successfully get it to export in the 20 minutes it took me to try it. I suspect I could do it with more head scratching but I don't have much hair left.
But I'll give it another try later today or tonight and see if I can help in the way you want to go about it.

It is acceptable to check off on "User Verified" and proceed with the installation.

My question is to anyone that can help..I downloaded 2-300 photos on my iPad and want to reload a few hundred more. The last time I did this I lost the first batch of photos I loaded a week before. How do I just add without losing what is already on iPad?
You need to add the new photos to the ones that are currently on the iPad and (re-)sync them all - only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad, not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad (as you've found out).
You can use third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos to the Photos app via your wifi network, but they will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album, and not into a 'proper' album. -

Now, I would like to know what should be the best language for a person that knows VB .NET good.
Now I know VB .NET is a easy language. The reason I'm moving away is the letters "M$"
And plus, VB .NET is only for Windows. What about you Arch Linux folks? What about Mac?

Last edited by VOT Productions (2011-10-28 11:15:26)I can only disagree with most of the things in that table :-) GNU Software in generally is very convenient to use and well documented, GPL and CC licenses are a great acquisition and Jabber/XMPP also, because it runs as a free competitor against proprietary services, such as ICQ. Programming language and editor is a matter of choice.
This is getting off topic. I only included the table to provide a reference on why I might recommend C and awk over higher level languages.
If you disagree with the content of the table, you may wish to start a new thread about it in an appropriate part of the forum. Even if I don't get time to personally respond, I suspect it would be something many people around here would find interesting.
Of course, in the end one can learn any language they like, but learning C++ using a text editor will probably take too long while learning Python using an full-featured IDE will probably take a couple of months.
It depends on how you measure "too long", and it depends on the intent. If you want to belt out bloated, crappy code in a hurry to make your employer happy, then certainly using Python in an IDE might be the way to go. I myself write bloated, crappy VBA for just this purpose :-) But I don't think this is what the OP is asking for.
The enhanced understanding and control that comes from learning C or C++ and using vim or emacs is well worth the extra learning time, in my opinion.
