just spent the last week (8hrs perday) "getting to grips" with css for dreamweaver, if you ever can get to grips with it!!! and now my brain feels like its massive and super powerful, like that guy off "lawn-mover man"....yikes
Anyhow my skills as a graphic designer are zilch, zero, nothing, so in the interest of balance i would now like to expand the right side of my brain...and get all arty....

You probably won't like this advice, but, if you are truly terrible...hire someone to do the work. There are many deserving artists with skills out there.

Thanks.Oddly enough, the mere existence of the metrics only loosely implies their value. Someone may easily have been doing the same thing over and over for decades, learning little. Some people may add their own mental context to another's posts, and so may completely disagree with a third person's judgment. Yes, most people with many posts and a funny little playing card may be better than average, but there are certainly those who come in and just drop our jaws with a few posts - good or bad.
I personally have some emotional investment in my name and start date - which may itself be a measure of antediluvian thought - so I understand and sympathize with your concern, and second your plea for our new friends. I just feel compelled to point out there have been discussions about how worthwhile these kinds of metrics are. Between developers and DBA's, we can beat a skeletal pliocene horse...

Creating a custom view to be used in Discoverer

I would like to create a view, that can be used in Discoverer.
I am new to Oracle and was wondering if
1) the hardcoded values in the WHERE clause can be made into variables
2) if (1) is true, can the Discoverer parms drive/be the values of the variables for the sql?

I'm glad you got it.
With regards to custom folders, I have to humbly disagree with the opinion expressed by my learned friend John. I have found that the most dramatic improvements I can make to a reporting system lie within the database. Within a tool there is usually nothing I can do to improve the performance that you get out of your database, but there is an awful lot you can do, and typically have done, to mess it up.
Above everything else, I am a reporting mentor and I get called in to work on systems where reporting is not working very well. I can tell you that rarely do I find that making changes to an EUL solves the problem.
Most of the time the fault lies in the database with it not being designed for reporting purposes. What I do is evaluate, formulate and activate. I analyze the problem, I work out the solution then I implement the solution. I have worked on systems where Discoverer reports, which granted are not the fastest in the world to begin with, have taken 30 minute or longer to run. When I am done I have these working in 1 minute or less. In a nutshell, or three words actually, you need to SIP your database, that is to summarize, index and partition the data within it in such a way that it has no choice but to behave.This is something you cannot do with a custom folder.
If anyone reading this is having trouble with a reporting system playing up you need to act now, change it or call someone who can, and make it perform the way you want. Your users will love you for it.

SpyrData.js Unknown error in Internet Explorer

Hello my most learned friends!
I am having a problem in Internet Explorer with a page I'm
developing. I'm using SpryData.js to import some XML data for a
photo gallery. It works fine in Safari and Firefox 2 but displays
nothing but an unknown error message at line 1178 in SpryData.js
which is:

thinking . . . maybe I've got a tag or an element that doesn't have
an innerHTML. So I hunted for this tag like I hunt for my inner
child and I found the problem.

Feathering Illustrator image placed in InDesign

I'm using Creative Suite Profession CS3.
I'm seeking your advice on the best way to achieve a good outcome for what I want to do.
I've prepared an Illustrator map which I want to place in InDesign on top of a background image (lots of blue and cloudy sky) already placed in InDesign. I want the four edges of the map to fade into the image 'seamlessly' but for the map to stand out on top and be clear when printed.
I would like to keep the map image in Illustrator format if I can because I will need to go back to it from time to time to do edits.
I have feathered the frame of the map (Illustrator file) in InDesign on all sides but it is not fading as nicely as I would like into the background image. In places the edges are a little unsightly and tinkering has not improved the result much.
I can't see that I can feather the image in Illustrator. Perhaps the only way to achieve a 'perfect' result is to save the Illustrator image as a Photoshop file and then feather it to my liking in Photoshop. Or perhaps I should just open the Illustrator file in Photoshop but it wouldn't stay as vector file as I understand it (better to create it as a Photoshop file I would think).
I can see that there are various ways to achieve this result but I am wondering how my learned friends would advise as to the best way to achieve this result - Illustrator to Photoshop file or whatever. If it is a bit complicated or technical, you might be able to point me to the key steps.

You can create a feathering effect in Illustrator. But the feature has a different name. It's called an Opacity Mask.
Do a Google search for Opacity Mask Illustrator or look in Illustrator Help.

Loosing internet connection

i have a mac os x 10.4.7 and i am using the apple internet. the airport is turned on and my question is why do i constantly loose connection and if there is anything i can do to fix this problem. thanks <3 kerri

Welcome to discussion Kerri, now I may not be able to help here, but if you could give a bit more information as to how you aactually connect to the internet, ISP, Airport Base Station? Moisture Content

I am engaged for developing a Yard Management system in SAP ECC 6.0 for my client who sells his product loose (bulk), that is it is not a packed product.
The material contains some percentage of moisture, and it varies within the range from 5 - 10%.
It is a standard practice of my client's business that if the material contains actual moisture content up to 5%, it will be accepted by the buyer.
If the actual moisture content is more than 5%, the quantity of delivery and billing should be reduced pro-rata, i.e. if the quantity loaded in the vehicle is say 10,000 kgs and if the actual moisture content of the material loaded is say 8%, the customer should be charged for 9,684 kgs only, {10,000*(100-8)} / (100-5).
I require help from my learned friends on the following query:
01.00 How can I design the system to enter the actual moisture content at the time of creating a delivery? The orders are created by the Marketing People for the entire requirement of the customer, i.e. say for 50,000 mt. or so on, so the actual moisture content is known to the warehouse staff only at the time of actual loading.
02.00 How can I develop system to calculate actual quantity to be charged based on the actual moisture content?

Your input is really helpful to some extent; I would like to elaborate the situation further:
(Step 1. Find if there is any screen enhancement for delivery document. Then capture the moisture content through this new screen from warehouse.)
There is no screen enhancement for delivery document, since we are going to implement this system first time; there is no modification to the standard SAP ECC 6.0 system as on today.
(Step 2. Use condition records during billing to apply a discount for moisture content.)
My requirement is to reduce the CHARGABLE QUANTITY automatically based on the Actual Moisture Content, thus avoiding posting excess issue of material goods, if the quantity loaded is say 10,000 kgs, but if the CHARGABLE QUANTITY is say 9,865.400 kgs, system should:
i) Reduce the delivery quantity to 9,865.400 kgs and the PGI and billing also should be done for the same quantity only. Thus I can avoid excess PGI and Billing and subsequent correction in the PGI quantity and use of any condition records.
I hope this will make the picture clearer, and will help give a batter solution.

Where is the best place to download Histogram equalizers

I found out on cs5 there is a histogram equalizer with in hdr toning...I also found out that there are plugins for histogram qualizers. I did download one called kamflex it was ok but it was noisy. From my learned friends on this site can you recommend others and if so where is the best place to get them. Pornada (free)

Usually for most image editing you really shouldn't need that type of plugin. (it's similar to Image>Adjustments>Equalize)

"Dropped Frames on Playback" - when playing back FCP's Bars+tone

We've been having a problems with one of our edit suites dropping frames when playing back to tape (Edit to tape).
In checking it out, I created a new project and added DCP's PAL Bars and tone to the default sequence. FCP is stopping playback with the "Dropped Frames on Playback" error after 13"-15". I've tried all the usual stuff - trashing FCP prefs, zapping PRAM, repairing preferences etc.
Has anyone any further suggestions??
RT is set to Safe, with dynamic frame rate and video quality.
The Mac is a Dual 2.66GHz Dual Core Xeon, 4Gb RAM, with an AJA kona lhe card, connected to an XServe Raid via fibre. The tape deck is a DigiBeta M2000.
I've read all the posts I could find, and checked Shane's stock answer #12.

Try creating a new user, log into that and test FCP.
In my case, a new user worked, for awhile.
Through a lot of trial and error and a reinstallation that was ineffectual - properly surmised by a very learned friend of mine, Mr. Sheffield - I found a project to be corrupt. So thoroughly corrupt that it would corrupt FCP and any projects opened downstream which is why my new user worked for awhile. Took me some time to figure out the proper order to open things after a system restart. Looks like I'll be doing a rebuild of the project through xml which shouldn't take to long.

Daylight Saving Time Changes for 2007

Sun's J2SE 1.4.2_11 has taekn care of the new Daylight Saving Time changes in accordance with The Energy Policy Act of 2005. Does anyone know if bea has incorporated same changes to their Jrockit, if so then starting which version.

We currently compile and run our application with Jrockit 1.4.2_04 (build 1.4.2_04-b05), if we change to minor version 11 for 1.4.2 should we recompile the application. I would think that DST related binaries would only be called at run time not compile time, however I am far from being a compiler expert. Can any learned friend shed some light.

I have created a batch script that runs rdf generates pdf reports for me at each eod run.
The report errors out:
REP-0736: There exist uncompiled program unit(s).
REP-1247: Report contains uncompiled PL/SQL.
This is the command i execute:

Created Quiz in Captivate 4. How can I create a report on Question Level

I have created a quiz in Captivate 4. I would like to create a report on question level. for e.g., I'd like to determine the no. of users that answered wrong on specific question consistently. This helps us to go back and tweak the quiz to make it more learning friendly.

This is normally handled by virtue of installing a Learning Management System (LMS). You then upload the Captivate into the LMS and the LMS handles aggregating and keeping track of performance.
Captivate does offer an E-Mail reporting function, but it's far from reliable and not remotely secure. Additionally you would be forced to hand tally and track responses if you are fortunate enough for it to actually SEND responses.

Z1 RAM and other issue

I bought this Xperia z1 2 weeks back, in 4.2 version I was happy with this but after 4.3 upgrade I'm very disappointed, now my z1 getting only 400MB RAM FREE now sometimes it also getting 330mb, but before update my z1 getting upto 1GB RAM FREE and average 750 mb with 25 additional apps. now I'm really disappointed with other issues also camera performance is also average low light photography is also not good, again after upgrade I got many problems like other z1 users, and it gives me same details in both 8 mp and 20MP. pleas help, and pleas clarify my doubts friends

For the kitkat issue,try contacting sony,but I do not think Z1 wil get 4.4 before the T,V and SP get 4.3.And for the camera,try settings-apps-all-camera and clear data.Restart the phone.

Calibrating two screens identical

I have an 24" iMac, about a year old, and a 2-3 yr old Eizo Flexscan L767 attached as a extra screen. I do a lot of photography, so want my screens calibrated.
I use a gretagMacbeth calibration gadget and Eye One software.
After calibration, my iMac screen still looks a lot brighter and more saturated then the Eizo screen.
I consulted a learned friend who suggested the following:
The reason (probably) your monitors look different is because each monitor requires a separate LUT (look up table) to hold the profile you make for it. Once both monitors are properly profiled they should be very similar. LUT’s are provided by your graphics card. Some only have one, some have two. One is more common, especially the built in graphics cards..
The most important thing to find out is does your graphics card have two LUT’s? Maybe you can look this up or ask Mac support? And if not lets look into what graphic card will. Chances are you can use the current graphics card for one monitor (built in monitor) and just get a inexpensive secondary card for your EIZO.<

I have an Eizo so will have to use that.
I spoke to my Apple dealer a few days ago, and he said that, contrary to what Nicholas wrote above, the Graphics card does NOT support two different LookUpLists. Two computer will give them different names, but when you look at the two profiles it produces, you will see that the numbers are actually mostly the same. Except for two strings of ASCII code, but they are likely to represent text identifying the monitor. I assume that unless I tell my computer which specific profile to use, it will choose the last one, which means that if today the last screen profiled is the iMac screen, my Eizo will also display according to the iMac calibration. This may well be a good explanation for some uneven printing I have been experiencing lately.
Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be useful if actual Apple tech staff would have an input in this board, as tech staff on other brand related boards sometimes have.
