"A plugin is needed to display this content"

I saw a a previous post with a similar problem (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1008744?esab=a&as=aaq) , but it's not for the same sort of content, and the answers did not help me.
I'm trying to view a virtual tour on a website, and I don't know why it's not showing up, but it does if I view it directly.
There is absolutely no indication as to //what// plugin is missing, and where I can get it.
I am using the latest versions of Firefox and Flash, on Win 8.1.
You can find it here:
http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/view/Panotour_Tutorials_-_Create_a_simple_virtual_tour_and_upload_it_on_Google_Drive#Finished_Tour
It works on every other browser. The full link to the content directly is here, which /DOES/ work in FF:
https://49bc6130e8cd1d9c5acf43941b125e6652644cc2.googledrive.com/host/0B21ztMIr_KkXdTNvcHNOYjNlVGc/index.html
I asked for the embed code that was used, which is
Why can't I view the content?
Ps: Your troubleshooter add-on doesn't have a verified author, that's a bit silly.

Alright, thank you very much for your help and responsiveness!

• Error "a plugin is needed to display this content" for embedded Google map, but no plugin identified.

When I try to view a page that has a Google map embedded on the page, I get the error message "a plugin is needed to display this content". However, I don't know what plugin, where to get it, etc. I've tried searching for this issue but haven't been able to come up with anyone else experiencing a similar issue, nor does there seem to be a plugin for Google Maps that I can find.
The page is here:
http://osiama.org/lodges#
The map displays when one of the links is clicked in the table.

I'm not sure why, but the site uses <embed> for the map instead of <iframe>.
When Firefox wants to render an <embed>, it needs to know what type of object is being embedded, and the site doesn't supply that information, so you see a generic "I don't know how to handle this" error.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a quick workaround for you as the end user. If you are the type to tinker, you can manually edit the code of the page in the web console as follows:
* right-click the plugin message and choose Inspect Element (Q) - the web console will open to the Inspector, with the <embed> element selected (screen shot #1)
* double-click embed and edit it to iframe, then press Enter to finish the edit
* Firefox will now load the map (screen shot #2)
This isn't a general fix-all for plugin errors, and ultimately the site will need to change this.

• "A plugin is needed to display this content", how do I get my computer to do this?

I am trying to open a video file for my online class. When I click on the file, a gray box appears and reads "a plugin is needed to display this content". How do I get my computer to open the video. I have a MAC and zero knowledge of how to fix problems on it.

Hmm, it depends on the type of video.
Does Firefox offer a link to search for the plugin? That may lead to some useful information.
If not, is the page available for viewing without logging in? If so, you could paste the address here for a volunteer to take a look.
In case the site uses video compatible with Windows Media Player, or in anticipation of coming across such a site sooner or later, you may need to install a plugin for Mac that can play Windows Media. Microsoft offers a couple of options on this page:

• Hide "A plugin is needed to display this content" box

Since a few versions, the grayish "A plugin is needed to display this content" box is displayed independently of the z-index of the actual plugin. Since FF24 this rectangle now additionally has become opaque, so it completely covers the complete web site content.
This is a huge problem for me as I have to look at web sites using plugins that are not available for FF and I cannot read the actual content anymore, even though the web page is written in a way that the plugin is only shown as some kind of background image.
Is there any way to remove this gray box or at least put this box in the background where it should be according to the DOM?

• Movie files (.mov) do not display "a plugin is needed to display this content"

Mac user. Movie files (.mov) do not display "a plugin is needed to display this content". What plug-in is required and where can I find it?

Aha, you already have QuickTime. Unfortunately, Firefox didn't find it. Can you try the method described in this thread (deleting a file and having Firefox re-generate it) and see whether it works for you?

• When I try to display .pdf file in browser (with proprietry extension .dnax) I get the error message "A plugin is needed to display this content".

I am trying to display a .pdf file within Firefox on a Vista PC. I have changed the extension from .pdf to .dnax to differentiate this .pdf file from others. I get an error message as above.
The file is displayed using Firefox on another PC with a Linux OS without problem.
Any advice out there?

Firefox typically judges the nature of a document or download based on the content-type header send by the web server. Usually a server has a catalog associating file extensions with content types. When you choose a new file extension, the server may send the generic "it's some kind of binary file" header ("application/octet-stream") which Firefox will not associate with a particular program.
Now, when you open a file from the local system, there is no web server, so Firefox may look to the file extension to ascertain the content type. Obviously that is not working in your case. What happens when you want to open the file from My Computer or Windows Explorer? Does Windows have an application assigned to it? If you can associate it with Adobe Reader in Windows, Firefox may be able to pick that up from the Windows registry.

Did you check that you do not have the sidebar open with a web page?
Is anything checked here in View > Sidebar ?
*Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
Opening in the side bar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the side bar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the side bar" is not selected.
• I get message "a plugin is necessary to display this content"

As a result, I'm looking at large grayed out areas that I assume are videos which I cannot view. I have done many searches to figure out what plugin to add. Part of the problem is that while my HTC Thunderbolt's screen is larger than most, it's still difficult to do exhaustive searching. I have Flash Player but reading tells me that Firefox doesn't support that. Under a related question, I used their example of http://ditzy.com.mortgagerefinance (that's just a close recall of address) but it successfully showed the gray box. That was where I first put this question but was corrected & told to start a new question. Here it is! I have added picture viewing apps, everything recommended following searches. I should have made a list of those additions that have made no difference. I think it may be a Java issue & need to address that issue. That's enough to start on. Hope you can help as this is driving me crazy. Bye,S

These are most likely Flash videos, and you are right, Firefox for android doesn't support Flash, yet. However, with the release of Firefox for Mobile Version 13, Flash will be fully supported (along with a ton of other awesome features).

• $20+ dollar movie purchased but BBW says "The license for ... has expired. You will need to purchase this content again.

Last week I purchased and my credit card was charged for "Lee Daniels' The Butler". With tax, this was a $23.72 purchase. The download started but then stopped at 1 or 2 meg (out of almost 2 gig). The error give is "The license for Lee Daniels' The Butler has expired. You will need to purchase this content again."
My credit card has been charged & I just want the movie. I have tried refreshing BBW but that did not work. What else could I do to make this work.
Best regards,
Paul

I have the same issue with The Butler, Escape, and the Last of the Mohican. I've called BlackBerry on this and they say it's a carrier issue. How is that possible? I didn't know Rogers controlled the product purchased in BlackBerry World. What needs to be done before we get some straight answers? File fraud charges???

• Need to display dynamic content on portal page

I have an htmldb application that a client can upload doctor profiles for the web users to lookup and find a doctor within a certain radius. When they click on the doctor's name, it shows a profile of the doctor. I need to be able to display this information directly on the oracle portal instead of iframing it because i need it to be searchable. I created an xml report in htmldb and linked it to the oracle portal with an omniportlet. The test page can be seen at [http://portal2.bynum.com/portal/page/portal/test/xml%20data%20test]
I need the link on the go to a page in portal and display the information from the database like it does on htmldb. Is it possible to:
1. Add a drop down box in the omniportlet that allows me to chose all doctors whose last name begins with the letter in the dropdown box.
2. Point the link to oracle portal, pass the object_id to the page, and display the doctor profile all in the portal instead of iframing from htmldb.

Ok, i found the solution. I created a page with the parameters that i want passed in order to display the datbase content. the parameters where created in the page properties section for the page. I created id, first_name, and last_name parameters. Then i created a dynamic pl/sql web page with the dynamic html portlet included with oracle and tied those parameters to the queries. Dynamic content is now displayed when the omniportlet links to the page.

• Error:This page contains content of "application/x-java-applet" type. You do not have the plug-in required to view this content.

Hi....i m using Mac OS x 10.5.8 with safari Version 5.0.2 (5533.18.5). I just updated the Java version to Java 6 and now m getting below error:
This page contains content of “application/x-java-applet” type. You do not have the plug-in required to view this content.
Please help me out on this....

I am also having a problem with this. My website is hosted through "www.onlinepictureproof.com" and now that my laptop is back from repair with OS X 10.6.8 I am unable to upload my photos to my work website. It says "a plug-in is needed to display this content. Install plug-in" and then a window pops up that says "no suitable plug-ins were found". Below that is "unknown plug-in (application/x-java-applet)" with a link to "manual install" which takes me to "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index-jsp-141438.html#download" which just leaves me lost. I've tried downloading the "JRE" but I have zero idea what that means or if Im downloading the proper thing. Once I click on the "download JRE" it brings me to a download page where there are WAY too many items for me to choose from to download, when I have no idea what I need or why I need it. please help, this is driving me insane. I actually preferred my constantly crashing laptop to the state its in now, "like brand new" back from apple repair...I have already updated everything that is promted through "Software Updates".
"OnlinePictureProof.com" only directs me to apple support.
Thank you for any help you can offer!

• 8889/forms/frmservlet - No plugin to display the content in Chrome

This, I reckon, is a basic configuration issue.
Using Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production), XP Pro,
Chrome Browser
Windows Standalone installation
While running the form, I get the following error. Please advise what configuration parameters do I need to set up to view the form in browser.
<mypcname>:8889/forms/frmservlet no plugin available to display this content
Started database, connection to database from forms developer 10.1.2.0.2 is successfull, started oc4j instance, I didn't change anything in formsweb.cfg. Please advise.
jre is 1.6.0_31 on my laptop.
Thanks for your help.

Well, for starters Chrome is not supported for use with Forms 10 and JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0. Please see the Forms Client Statment of Direction for client side certifications.

After you are working with a certified configuration, if you still have a problem please share some details. For example, are you getting an error message? Does it work from IE or FF? We need details of what you are experiencing and what you have tested thus far.

• How to display the contents of java.util.list in a frame???

i should use awt only not applet...
i need to display the contents of java.util.list in a frame...
the contents contains rows queried from a oracle database.....
the contents should be displayed similar to how a lable is displayed..
please help me out..
thanks
dinesh

Of course there is something in AWT:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/awt/List.
htmlagain, if you carefully read the question, he needs a
table to display a JDBC result set. There is no
pre-made table component in AWT.Well, I read that he filled the data into a java.util.List and now wants to display this list. So a List-component should be sufficient. But I might be wrong...
