A pop-up message on desktop with nonexistent home network address

A pop-up window appears sometimes on my desktop saying that no network connection to a specific home network address can be established. There is no device in that address. How to remove the pop-up?

Actually the message is that there is no File Server on this computer associated with netwok address 192.168.1.9. Access the files manually.

How do I connect a Windows 2000 PC desktop to my home network (laptop mac)

Hi,
Sorry to be such a novice. I have created a wireless network with an airport express. My Macintosh laptop can connect to it without a problem and can access the internet. Next step is I want to connect my desktop PC (running Windows 2000) so that it can also connect to the internet using the wireless connection.
Do I need special equipment so the desktop can find the airport express network? How do I set it up on the PC?
Also - does anyone know the easiest way to connect a TIVO to the home network as well?

Your PC needs to have the ability to join a 802.11b/g compatible network. If it doesn't have that hardware ability, you will need to add a wireless card or wireless adapter.

I have a Time Capsule 1TB connected to my modem which is broadcasting WiFi to my MacBook Pro. This works just fine. My step sister needs internet on the PC we have, so I want to plug the Airport Extreme into it and use it to receive the WiFi from the Time Capsule (the PC is no where near the Time Capsule so it cannot be hardwired). However I am running into some difficulties because the Time Capsule and the Extreme seem to both think they are the base station and I want only the Time Capsule to be the base station.
Suggestions?

I assume that your AirPort Extreme is an 802.11n model. If that is the case, you can configure both base stations to extend the Time Capsule's (TC) wireless network.
Here are the basic steps:
o If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

My iphone 4S is not able to connect to my home wifi network although it easily connects to others. Infact, i have tried connecting another iphone with my home network without any difficulty. So its just my new iphone 4S that is not connecting.

Another interesting thing is that all other devices including an iphone 4 easily connects to this home network. So what is the problem with iphone 4S???

There are two ends to a wireless network. Try rebooting your router. Just pull the power for a few seconds and replug. No settings are lost.
(The fact that all your other devices connect to the internet is irrelevant)

Hello. I recently installed a new SSD on my macbook pro (mid2009 running mavericks). Now after booting up the text editor automatically pops up on the desktop with the header quopri_codec.py What is this and should i be concerned about it?

Merging of authless desktop with existing home page contents

I have set up the PS6 and our organization already has a home page. I want to have the authlessAnonymous desktop to refer to this page. We also want the login channel as part of this page. Is there a way to merge these two?
I looked at the desktop customization guide and admin guide, but am confused.

One thing to keep in mind, you can also use the URLScraperProvider to pull an HTML page from another location. We use this extensively to pull pages from a centralized content server.
To get the login form in the upper right corner, you need a good understanding of how to arrange the folder/files on the portal server desktop folder to the objects you create in the display profile.
Otherwise, you will be customizing the "default" desktop folder or one of the sample portals and I would highly recommend against that.
This is probably one of the most important concepts inn understanding how to modify the look & feel of Portal and one that people get messed up off the bat just learning it; it's really quite overwhelming at first to figure out and it's not documented very well.

Can't get it working - just want to view another desktop on my home network

I need to be able to view (not control) the desktop of my PowerMac that is connected to my Zoom DSL modem in another room. I want to view that desktop from my MacBook Pro connected wirelessly to the modem.
The PowerMac is running Mac OS X 10.3.9.
The MacBook Pro is running Mac OS X 10.4.11.
On the Zoom modem I've turned on port forwarding for port 5900 (is this necessary?).
On the PowerMac I have turned on Apple Remote Desktop in the Sharing preferences, and opened port 5900. On the MacBook Pro I have installed Chicken of the VNC, but it can not connect to the PowerMac. I can login to the PowerMac and share files using Mac OS X, and I can successfully ping the PowerMac with Network Utility. But when I try to port scan the PowerMac the scan proceeds for several minutes without finding anything (scanning the range 5900-5910).
When I try to connect using CVNC the error is "Connection Refused:Conect()".
I'm working at the very edge of my understanding of networking here. I'm really not sure about how I've done things, and I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

Okay, I'm going to answer my own question. I needed to update my ARD client to 2.1 to get this working. Latest is 2.2 so I may try that next, but for now 2.1 is working fine.

Time Capsule 2TB interoperability with existing home network

Can I still use Time Machine backing up to my 2B Time capsule if it is LAN wired to a Netgear router?
I am using my Netgear router as the primary and wireless device. I have my TimeCapsule Wired via a lan port. I mostly want to use the time capsule for stoarage and time machine backups. It would also be used for media storage. I have been told adding it as a wireless bridge is very slow.

For windows.
1. Load in the appropiate airport utility.. even if you have latest TC, and cannot configure the unit. since apple is miles behind in windows utility as neither v6 utility nor win8 have been dealt with. (or perhaps they have.. poorly!!)
The utility includes a connection agent and bonjour for windows which helps loads.
2. Make sure you use SMB compatbile names in the TC.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
3. In windows explorer type into the address bar
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress where you put in the actual name or IP.
If it doesn't respond turn off the windows firewires.. and maybe any security software you have.
Tell me if it still doesn't work.. also what version TC are you talking about.. Gen4 or Gen5??

Help with hub/ home networking

Hello,
I am currently running the nh-1005 hub.I have the cable modem going into the hub and then 3 PCs connected to the hub.Each computer has its own IP address(comcast charges a couple bucks for the extra IP adresses).They all connect to the internet without any problem.
I would like to set them up so that all 3 computers can share a printer and files.
I would also like to install monitoring software because the other 2 PCs are my kids.
I dont know the first place to begin with this.Any help is greatly appreciated.

I too would tend to agree with a router instead of a hub. Some routers have built-in firewalls, which is what you need here. You will need to secure the router to prevent any unwanted people to use your connection. Concerning monitoring the kids, Norton makes "Internet Security" that has Parental Controls, I believe. Most any kind of security software will have that, if they are a reputiable manufacturer.

Will apple tv work with a home network

I just changed from PC to MAC. Im looking for a way to network all my movies and music as I did with my PC. I'm finding it impossible to network without having to buy expensive equipment. I was looking into the 3TB Airport Time Capsule. Will this allow me to access my move content from my TV off my iMac? I need a Back Up HD and thinking this might work. WHat about about Apple TV? Can I network that so I can watch anything off my Mac to any TV in the house?

Do you currently have a wired or Wi-Fi network in the house?
If so, connect the ATV and computer to the same network, enable home sharing and everything will simply work. No need to purchase anything new/special to make it work.

Macbook no longer connects automatically with my home network

When i travel and return home, my macbook no longer will automatically join my home network. Is there a way to make the current network your on a 'trusted' network or a default network to join via airport?

Have you tried adding your home wireless network as a "Preferred Network" in your MacBook's AirPort settings?
o System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort

4s has trouble with my home network

My iPhone 4S has trouble connecting to my AirPort Extreme. The only way it connects is if I lay it directly on the extreme.

Power the extreme off and wait a few minutes, the Power ON again.
On the 4S reset networking settings. You will have to re-enter your network's password, but it should be able to connect.

Assistance with Wireless Home Networking

Hello-
I am struggling to get my house set-up properly for a strong wireless signal strength. I could use some advice.
My current set-up includes:
1) A 2Wire gateway broadcasting wirelessly at 2.4GHz (b/g)
2) A Time Capsule connected to the gateway via Ethernet and broadcasting wirelessly at 5GHz (n).
My signal strength is very poor in some portions of the house. Most noticeably where I need it the most... My media room (which has the Apple TV, PS3, etc.). Oddly, my Time Capsule has 30% less strength than the 2Wire.
From reading posts here, it appears I have the following options:
a) Get an airport express and use it as a range extender.
b) Get a power line home networking device and hook-up my devices via Ethernet.
I would appreciate any suggestions on the proper way to go, and, if there are any other things I should try besides what I listed above.

Sorry to be vague... The Time Capsule is only for the back-up of my laptop.
What I am attempting to do is expand my wireless network through out my house. It has not been doing so up to this point. I have a newborn on the way quite soon and had to turn my home office into a nursery. In doing so, I lost my second TV that I had my Apple TV, Playstation 3, and X-Box connected to.
When I moved all these devices to the media room, the wireless was not strong enough for them to function. So, what I have done is:
1) kept my 2Wire gateway broadcasting wirelessly as before
2) set the Time Capsule up to "join a network" as opposed to "create a new network" and connected it to the gateway via ethernet
3) connected a WD LiveWire ethernet adaptor directly into the gateway via ethernet
4) put the second WD adaptor in my media room and connected all my devices to this via ethernet
All seems fine, but I am not sure this is the "optimum" set-up. I also don't know if I should add an extra router in the media room to broadcast a stronger wireless signal. This router would - of course - be connected to the WD LiveWire via ethernet, as are the rest of my devices in the media room.

How do you remove the "Peer Assisted Networking" pop up message?

I am a newbie to Adobe Flex. I am using the NetGroup / GroupSpecifier API. But the pop up message "<URL> may user peer assisted networking. Do you want to allow access to upload bandwidth?" keeps showing. How do I prevent this message from showing to the user? thanks.
