A (possible) new slant on the bksod problems?

Note: I have not personally checked the following out with any K7N420 Pro's I have access to yet, but I intend to do so.
The problem could be as simple as shonky components. Most people who have been in the PC integration game for a while will know there is a definite problem with some brands (most famously ABIT) and bad electrolytic capacitors.

This would explain why some experience the problems and some don't - those who don't likely have boards with different brand capacitors on. It also would explain why some motherboard manufacturers nforce products are seemingly immune to the problem.
I'd like to hear from MSI engineers on this, especially since MSI does a lot of its competing on price - and the savings have to come from somewhere.
Also there is word going around of a large amount of MSI OEM nforces for sale on the grey market at the moment. The story goes they were destined for either Compaq or Sony - but where never purchased by either. Given that compaq has an nforce based business machine on the market and I believe it uses an asus motherboard, I'd like to know why compaq/sony rejected the MSI boards in favor of other brands (apparently after they had put in a largeish order for them).

Of course we can not entirely discount the theory. But we have some evidence that contradicts it.
What speaks against it being a bad component related
issue is the fact that changing the API for the graphics affects the phenomenon. With OpenGL the machine is absolutley stable, and when using Direct3D the machine is subject to BKSODS.
If someone is having BKSODs with both these APIs I would consider that it might be component issues.
Another evidence that also contradicts the theory about it being bad caps is the fact that any voltage filters that iis subject to voltage ripples (self oscillation) due to bad caps, would also cause audible noise in the output from the said audio circuits. And as long we do not hear such noise, we can with 95% certainty remove the caps from suspicition.
It might however be other components that is malfunctioning. But then this is contradicted by the fact that changing the API affects the stability. Changing the graphics API does not affect the load on the components.
I know of a way to prove or disprove the bac-cap-theory beyond this, but since it requires adding components to the motherboard I will not even tell how to do it on this forum. I am to afraid that someone who does not know what he is doing tries it and destroys his motherboard. And I do not feel that it is neccessary at this point.

New micro with the headphone problem fi

I just orded a new Zen micro off of ebay. How can i tell if it is a newer one with the headphone problem fixed? If does not come with the ac charger or the belt clip. Does that tell anything about the age. Any other way to see when my micro was manufactured? When did the headphone problem start getting fixed?

Im not sure that the creative people will honor my warranty, and I was wondering how much would it cost to have the jack problem fixed? It should be a recall, but I suppose that wont happen.

Mid 2009 macbook pro battery is dead and fan is constantly ramped up (not due to heat). Would installing a new battery fix the fan problem?

Battery icon has an "x" over it and I need to have my laptop plugged in to be on. I've ordered a new battery to install, but I was wondering if it's possible that something else might be causing the fan to be on over drive constantly. I've tried resenting the SMC and the PRAM, but nothing has stopped the fans from running at higher than normal speeds.

If you've updated to Mavericks, you'll either need to use the original install DVD containing the AHT, or download the right one from Apple's servers, then replace the hidden /System/Library/CoreServices.diagnostics folder.
I think that replacing the battery is likely to stop the fan problem anyway.

Apple sent me a new iPod touch to replace the one that stopped working. The new one has the same problem as the old one. Should I send it back?

I bought an iPod touch 4th genertion in August 2013. About 3 weeks ago, iTunes told me an update was available for my iPod so I clicked update. It then said it had detected an iPod in recovery mode and I had to restore my iPod. I tried to restore it when another pop up appeared saying an unkown error occured and it was unable to restore my iPod. I talked to someone on the online help page and they said I needed to talk to someone on the phone because it was too complicated to explain. The first person I spoke to on the phone could not identify my problem so she got her supervisor who said I needed to send it in for repair. I sent it in and yesterday I received a brand new iPod in the mail with a letter saying they could not fix my old iPod and this was a replacement. I plugged the new iPod into my computer to restore it and everything was fine. It said my software was not up to date so I clicked update and the exact same thing happened with the new ipod. It told me to restore my iPod and then said it was unable to be restored. They replacement arrived yesterday. Should I send it back?

What is the exact wording of the error message? It may be that there is a problem with your computer and is causing the problem, not a problem with the iPod.

Possible new section for the website.

At the top right of the Arch website, you have the sevral tabs, e.g. "home", "forums", "wiki" etc. I personally think that a clincher for allot of brand new linux users is a "media" section.
When i first started using Linux, I used to browse round sevral diffrent sites for diffrent distro's and check out their screenshots, of course now ~3 years down the pipeline I know this means nothing, but for new users its a nice thing to see.
Last friday whilst I was at college, I was trying to "convert" one of my friends to Linux, explaining all the advantages of a package manager and a customisable init system, when all he cared about was distro screenshots, when he found none on the main page of the arch site, he quickly moved on to Fedora/PCLinuxOS etc.
The addition of an extra media section, listing community and stock backgrounds/screenshots I think would be a great addition to help attract some more attention to the site.
I think there was a screenshot section like 1.5 years ago (I saw a fluxbox screenshot I really liked ), but im not sure where thats gone, think it was art.archlinux.org, but that has since died.
A range of screenshots would demonstrate Arch's flexibility and userbase, aswell as community and offical wallpapers.
Just my $0.02, what you reckon?

Aghh.. I hate when this happens, my fingers are not keeping up with my head!!
Now this would (in my head atleast) mean a few basic "arch setups" (one "arch setup" per each of the most used dm's, kde, gnome, xfce?) which would have an "official" screenshots in arch's site, and if someone would like one of them pictures, there'd be a tutorial how to achieve it. And once these so called official screenshots had been introduced, it'd mean basically almost any of us with the same dm could help in a way or another the new archer to achieve her/his goal, (..I think xorg.conf would propably be the first squared tire) and then the fresh archer could _instantly_ help the next one with like minded problems.
I can of course speak for myself only, but the easiest way for me to learn is by doing things. This is one of the main reasons I'm still sticking with arch, I love it when you have to add stuff manually to a file to make things happen automatically from now on. Not just ..install ..and ....done ...and.. wtf?! why am I running out of memory ?!..

Have you ever checked to see if there is an update for your router? If yes, then power off router. Then on iPhone go into settings and do a reset network settings. Power router back on, and try connecting phone to router.

How to fix the search problem due to timezone?

I live in GMT+8 timzone. I just migrated a site from SP2010 to SP2013. After migrated when I search for a managed property (datetime) all results return is 1 day later.
To troubleshoot the problem, I setup a new managed property using "Text" datatype. In refinement panel for that managed property I found the refinement are all looks like 2013/12/11 16:00:00. (which should be 2013/12/12 00:00:00)
The old server is running in GMT+8. The only different is SP2010 and SP2013.I have changed the web application -> general settings -> timezone to GMT+8 and the site collection settings as well. We did not enable "My site" so there
is no personal regional settings. What else I can check? What should I check and how can I make the search work as expected?

Once a document is stored and uploaded it has the UTC time stamp on it. Now this timestamp cannot be changed.
So you either use timezone when the document was uploaded or use it the same way.
BTW what difference does it make with the time it shows?
The field in question is designed to store a "Date" value only not the "Time". The time is always 00:00:00.
In the old farm, users search for 2013/12/31 will get the results with field value 2013/12/31. Now in the new farm, with the timezone problem, search for 2013/12/31 will get the results with field value 2014/1/1

5. I have seen 1 or 2 posts which claimed to have solved their problem after going back to some old driver version. Maybe you can convince them to go back to MSI original drivers or older drivers of Nvidia.

As you can see, MSI does have an interest in solving the problem. Has anyone tried going back to the original Drivers from the MSI CD?
Also it would be helpful to try and nail down when the problem started occuring. When was it? 1 month, 2 months, 5 months ago?

Since I don't play games a lot I don't experience this problem often, but I experienced it for the first time while playing Warcraft III. I could play for anywhere from 1-3 hours but eventually the system would lock up with a black screen. Before that I had only played a few other games (mostly Counter-Strike) that did not have this problem.
Switching back to the 1.05 drivers solved my problems with Warcraft III.
Later I wanted to have the audio control panel from the 1.13 drivers back and since I didn't play Warcraft III anymore at that point I just installed them. I noticed that when playing DVD's on my computer the system would freeze after approx. 30 mins - 1 hour. I tried this several times before switching back to the 1.05 drivers. That solved the problem again.
I think it is fair to conclude that for me the problems started after upgrading from the 1.05 drivers. It is very difficult to describe how to reproduce this problem exactly, but on my system the easiest way is to play a DVD movie using the 1.13 drivers for about one hour.
I am using the Dolby Digital output since I have a DD receiver.

I have a large number of projects, most of them already
existed when we used RoboHelp 4 and older versions of MS Office.
Old an new projects show the same problems: imported ones,

I installed a test version of RH 6 and restored my Times N.R.
font in my windows registry... also with RH6 the font is converted
(in the preview and after compilation). The signs (-"(...) appear
all right with times new Roman. When I delete Times New Roman,
Arial is taken but instead of the signs I only have the large

What I don't understand: MS updates seemed to cause it, but
uninstalling the updates doesn't change anything.
I think I'll format my whole machine, reinstall Windows and

Yeah, first my thought was also that... that's why I've gone to Apple and they already switched the phone twice!!!
Last time was yesterday... I posted this here because I came from Apple and with a new iPhone 5, although I didn't restore anything from iCloud, I hadn't even logged in to iCloud / AppStore, and without any event on the lockscreen my iPhone 5 was already "locked" on the unlock screen... after a mere 45m after I used it without a single App!! Ifeel miserable after trying out all the options changed multiple sims, tried multiple carriers, restored the phone back and have set-up as new device but the problem does not get solved... its is so frustrating that after investing on a world's most expensive phone you cannot enjoy the calling features which the phone offers which is the main thing you own the phone for.. Rest of the things are working.. The funniest part I am not able to make calls or receive calls but can access the internet.. If no user database has been created , in SSMS , we can see only the 5 system databases ( master, msdb , tempdb... ).
Logically , the user should connect automatically on the Master database ( if the user is the same as this used to install a new SQL Server instance, this user should be sysadmin that's to say he/she has all possible permissions and especially dbcreator ).
Is it true that it is impossible to create a new table on the master database ?
I have done many researches about this possibility , all I have found is the advice : don't touch to the master database. This database is used to store critical information about the instance and its user databases. Even in the last book of Kalen Delaney
about SQL Server 2012 Internals , I have found nothing clear about the creation of tables in this database ( and what about the other system databases ? I am excluding tempdb ).
If someone has an idea about this thread and my questions , I would be thankful for a reply on this thread or on the related thread in the SQL Server Express Forum ( with my poor written English , I am not sure to have poster in a correct and understandable
way ).

If you add the current user during the installation you can have it as system admin , or you can add him/her later on
in SQL Server. BTW regarding dbcreator I have wrote some blog , need to read... :-)

You can (if you have needed permissions) to create objects in master database, usually I create objects for instance maintenance (like rebuild indexes...)
