A Problem Using Brushes

I've been using AP3 since the beginning but had never tried to use all of the brushes until yesterday. All of the Quick Brushes have worked without problem but now trying to use brushes with highlights/shadows, enhance, curves blocks Ap3 freezes and I must force quit. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

'Previews' are temporary copies of the image. They aren't the real image and wont be used for anything other than accelerating how fast you can flip through images to find one you want. In the same way that Aperture and iPhoto generate 'thumbnail' views that wont be used for anything other than speeding how fast you can browse images... 'previews' are basically just screen-sized thumbnails.
iPhoto is a 'JPEG' processing engine. It can technically read a RAW image, but it wont work with it. It'll just convert it to JPEG and do everything from there. Aperture is really a RAW processing engine. It can technically read a JPEG -- but to do so sort of defeats the whole point of the power of Aperture.
People notice that they can 'browse' images in iPhoto much faster than Aperture. As well they should... it's faster. That's because when you adjust an image in iPhoto, it makes a copy of the image (a new JPEG) and makes the change to the copy. The copy is now stored with your changes as a permanent part of the copy. Once you save and move on to the next image, you can't undo an adjustment in iPhoto. The only safety net in iPhoto is that it does save the original image and you can 'revert' back to it. But if you do that you lose ALL the adjustments you made... you can't undo just one thing as you can do in Aperture. BUT... as a result of working this way, the image on the disk is the finished image. All iPhoto has to do is display it. This makes it fast to browse.
Aperture, on the other hand, is mostly used by pro or high-end non-pros. I would guess most have DSLR cameras and most of them use RAW. The size comparison of RAW vs. JPEG is huge... a RAW might be 15-20MB whereas the same image as a JPEG might be 100k. Also, Aperture doesn't actually 'apply' the changes directly to the master. It just tracks the list of everything you wanted to do to adjust the image. When you open an image, it opens the master (which is huge) and THEN it looks at the list of all the adjustments you've applied and begins to reprocess them (which can take a while) -- this combined with the fact that the average image size in Aperture is substantially larger than the average image size in iPhoto and it's no surprise that iPhoto is a lot faster. In summary, iPhoto opens a very small file and has no work to do other than display it. Aperture has to open a very large file and has a LOT of work to do in order to display it.
So to combat this problem, Aperture uses 'previews'. Basically it's cheating. It's doing what iPhoto does in that it saves a copy of your image (with all adjustments applied) as a JPEG. This means in "Preview" mode it can be every bit as fast as iPhoto. Unfortunately you lose a lot of detail & control when you convert to JPEG - you wouldn't actually want to use this for real work. So the JPEG is really just there to speed browsing performance. As soon as you want to change something, you must leave "Preview" mode and Aperture will work on the RAW version of the image.

Problem Using Brush Colors

I am just working with Photoshop Elements 10 and I seemed to have hit a "brick wall". For one reason or another whenever I use a brush with any color to it, whether it is in "Normal" or "Color" mode, or whether I am on a solid white background, a layer of the very same white background, or a clipping mask with any color background, the color of my brush stoke is hit or miss. One time out of ten it is the color I set in the foreground, nine other times it is a related hue on the color wheel. And if I get the desired color I want on the 1st stroke, without changing anything my very next stroke will be a different color . . . BUT always the next related color in the color wheel. The third brush stroke will be the thrid related color in the color wheel, the fourth will go back to the preslected color. Brush stokes 5 and 6 will cycle through the color wheel. The 7th stroke will be the preselected color again. White, black, or light gray brushes are no problem. BUT when I start using colored brushes I have no control over the colors.
The only hint I can give you is just before I noticed this I was poking around in the Photoshop Color Kuler - https://kuler.adobe.com/create/color-wheel
Up until that point everything was working fine. I am wondering if there was something changed in Elements on me when I was poking around with different color schemes? Would a "Reset Brushes" in the Brush Menu help or really throw me for a loop?

Problem using Brush tool with layer mask in Photoshop CC.

Using Photoshop CC, working on a layer mask. Using the Brush tool to paint white to show the effect works like normal. Painting black has no effect. Just started doing this in the last two days.

Check you Brush blending mode setting in the tools option bar.

Help, please: problem using brush in masking

For some reason, when I use the brush tool, 100% opacity. 100% flow, when I paint with black it only partially reveals the background image. I have no special brush settings applied in the brush palette and the layer blend mode is set to normal. Any suggestions would be appreciated--have never run into this before.

Thanks so much, Ricky, for taking the time to help. Your suggestions made me think--I had numerous layers between the one with the mask and the background. Even though there were only a few paint strokes on each layer and the rest was blank, I tried merging them and that worked--I could then use my brush (the ordinary soft round brush) to display the background completely where I wanted it. Must have had differend blend modes in there somewhere and forgotten about it.

Problem using PSE9 Brush Tool!

I am experiencing a problem using the PSE9 Brush Tool. The color does produced by the brush not match the color of the sample picked by the Eyedropper Tool, Painting near the area where the sample was picked-up results in a much darker color.

Check the blend modes for the brush tool in the tool options bar.
Also if your painting on a blank layer check the blend modes in the layers panel.
Either way try the Normal mode.

Photoshop Elements 9 - unable to use brush in adjustment layer

HI
I'm new to Adobe Photoshop Elements and have recently purchased Elements 9. I am having problems using the brush in adjustment levels.
I've opened a RAW image and converted it to black and white by desaturating it using an adjustment layer. I'm then trying to adjust the black and white image using several adjustment levels. I'm using the brush to black out the parts of the image in the particular adjustment layer I don't want changing. This worked initially, but for some reason, the brush stopped working in the adjustment layers. It's a soft brush set to 300px, the mode is "Normal" and opacity is 100%. Put simply, it's not obliterating anything in the layer, nor does anything appear in the thumbnail over on the right (both these things happened before)
The brush works normally when adjusting an image with no levels i.e. when you simply open a RAW or TIFF file and use the brush.
I've tried uninstalling the programme and reinstalling, but the porblem persists.
Can anyone offer any help? It's frustrating as I can't selectively adjust my image. Am I doing something wrong, is it a glitch, or is it just a simple case of ticking a simple box some where in the pre-sets?

Check that you have your brush set to black (foreground color black)
and that your actually painting on the layer mask (click on the layer mask
to make it active).
Try just painting on the mask of your adjustment layer used to desaturate the photo
with a black brush (the color should come back)
Sometimes with multiple adjustment layers, the strokes on one layer mask may overlap
the strokes on another.
If you want more control over a black and white conversion, you might try something like
the following.
1. Add a hue\saturation adjustment layer and change the layers blending mode to Color
2. Add another hue\saturation adjustment layer and move the saturation slider to -100
3. On the first adjustment layer (the one with the color blend mode), move the hue
and saturation sliders for different black and white effects.
4. If you want to add a color tint, set the top hue\saturation layer to colorize and
adjust the hue and saturation sliders for different tint effects.

Apple Trackpad freeze when using brush tools

Apple MacBook Pro Retina, OS X 10.10 Yosemite Beta 1
I've just downloaded Photoshop CC 2014 Trial. I don't use mouse or tablet, but I use Apple Trackpad. When I start using Brush, Clone Stamp, Quick Selection Tool, etc cursor freezes between movements. In previous version of PS (14.2.1) everything is fine. I've made a video to show you this problem.

I've just reverted back to the previous build of Photoshop CC and the problem is fixed, so I'm gonna wait till the next release of Photoshop or the final version of Yosemite and give it another shot. My friend tested the same Ps version on his iMac running Mavericks and it worked fine with the Magic Mouse, so it's definitely some kind of incompatibility issue between the current Ps CC build and Yosemite.

PSE 12 keeps FREEZING when using Brushes

I am running PSE 12.1 and every time i try to use brushes on any command(delete or paint etc...). I have tried to delete files that others have suggested and I have also used the uninstall to remove preferences and still to no avail. I have a mac book pro running yosemite and I need help. No reason to purchase a program and it not work!
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME OUT!!!!!

and any lockfiles with the same names, then go to Saved Application States (at the same level as preferences) and delete any for PSE, then repair permissions and try again.

Sudden, and regular crash issue using brushes/Wacom Cintiq

I'm using Photoshop CS5 Extended 64bit (12.0.4) on Win7 Professional (64 bit) and recently have had an issue using my Cintiq 12WX tablet in that using the brush with the tablet (whether I'm using the tablet as the monitor, or my laptop as the monitor) causes Photoshop to crash, usually within the first 30 seconds of usage. This has become so regular that I expect it to crash and no longer can trust it to use, but at the same time I depend on its use to get work done, so an expedient solution is absolutely necessary. Does not crash if I use brush with a mouse, but that's not exactly a solution either, as you can imagine. I have been using this tablet with this Photoshop for a long time without incident, and I can think of no changes to the system I've made in the period when this began happening.
All drivers for the Cintiq are current.

Did not update it actively. Not sure if I remember if I have that particular driver set to update automatically or not.
What I have done, is turn off OpenGL feature in preferences, as searching for others with similar problems might have suggested that would work, but sadly it hasn't.
Will check on the status of the graphics driver (It's NVidia QuadroFX) and if it was updated recently without me knowing.

Update your graphics driver/ turn off GPU usage in the performance prefs. You have an issue with hardware-based transparency handling most likely. Otherwise you could have an issue with your input device, but since you have not provided any system info, we can't really know anything.

Problem using File sharing in a small office network

I have a problem using File sharing on an Imac and Macbook Pro.
My office has a small network running Windows Small office file server 2003. I have one Windows 2000 PC connected to it and 3 Macs, an 2.4 gHz Intel iMac running Leopard 10.5.6 , a MBP running the same and a Mac Mini running 10.5.
From the Finder Shared window of the Mac Mini, I can see all the computers on the network. It also used to be the case for the iMac, but the MBP could never see the Windows PC’s, not the server or the Win2000. This wasn’t a big problem as I was communicating between the Macs and using the shared printer on the iMac.
On Monday Jan 19 the iMac was suddenly unavailable to the other 2 Macs. It was working normally on the Friday. The iMac can access the Mac Mini and copy files to it. The Mac Mini can see the iMac but cannot access it. Even trying to connect as, ends in a failed connection. I have tried rebooting, turning File sharing off and then on again to no avail.
The iMac now also cannot see the Windows PC’s which it previously could.
To get files from the MBP for printing, I now copy it to the Mac Mini and acces the folder from the iMac, a very tedious procedure. I don’t know why this happened and am scared that the Mac Mini is going to do the same thing.
All three computers are also running VMware 2.0 with Windows XP pro, and from VMware the server is visible on all the computers.
Any help will be much appreciated, I live in a small town in South Africa and the local computer suppliers have no knowledge of the Macs.
I think that the problem with the iMac may have started after a software upgrade to 10.5.6 but I am not entirely sure.

Well, you're current method sounds pretty good. But if you want to user a file server, hey go ahead.
What you want to do when you centralize project files is to keep track of which one is the newest and becareful not to overwrite files with the same name. So you either have to set up individual spaces on the server (separate AFP/FTP folders maybe), or you'll need to run a file checkout service.
The individual space is cheaper, but it's not much of a difference from backing up to the network drive. Since you have Gigabit connections, you might even opt to save ALL the user files on the server instead of just the project files.
If you want to run a file checkout service, there's two approaches. You can run a service that can host any kind of file, or you can run a version control system for each kind of application (Photoshop, Word, etc.). Please notice, that as you read further and further along, the methods become more and more expensive and complicated. Once you get to this point, it will be necessary to purchase or build software in addition to the Mac OS X Server package.

Huge problem using apple mail while sending email to a group...

Hey - I am quite confused... apple mail has huge problems using groups with about 150 addresses when writing and sending an email... the writing of emails is nearly impossible. Once the group name is inserted in the addressline (address book in iCloud!), apple mail uses nearly 100% CPU and further writing is nearly impossible. When sending such an email, all addresses are suddenly visible - though the box is NOT checked and the addresses should be hidden... what can I do? I use this feature (sending mails to groups) on a daily basis and cannot accept visible addresses...

How about next time you send to the group, cc yourself, or include yourself in the group. Then receive the email on the iphone, you can "reply all" in order to send to the group. If you use an imap account, you can make a new folder, call it something like "groups", and save different group emails there for the next time you need to "reply all".

If your phone is locked to a particular carrier, you must contact them to request they unlock it. Once they've taken care of that and you've followed the instructions to complete the unlock process, you will be able to use the phone elsewhere.

After that, I tried setting permissions for the cwallet.sso file to ugo+rwx, but this leads to the same problems as mentioned above.
My second try was to setup an external WLS 12c, but it seems to be not yet possible to connect to a WLS 12c from within jDeveloper.
Do you have any ideas ?

After debugging the WLS Initialisation with jdb, I recognized that there was some trouble with dependent libraries.
In the end, I solved my problem by using another OS (Ubuntu 11.10) for development. There, the WLS works out of the box, even with 64-Bit libraries.

Hi,
I m facing a problem regarding: SAP Crystal Reports data source connection problem using sap business one
I am trying to create a Crystal report but when I try to configure a new connection it does not work.
I select Sap Business One data source and try to complete the information required to connection but it does not list my companies databases, what is the problem?
Our Current SAP related software details are as follows:
OS: Windows Server 2008
SAP B1 Version: SAP B1 9 (902001) Patch 9
SAP Crystal Report Version: 14.0.4.738 RTM
Database: MS SQL Server 2008 R2
I have also added some screenshots of the issues.

There is problem with SAP Business One date source.
I had faced same problem, I used OLEDB Data-source, and it worked fine for me.
So, try to use OLEDB.
