A "professional" display of a video? How do I control the video display?

My goal is to display a quicktime video I have created using my MacBook Pro on a video projection system at a party.
The video is about complete. What I want to do is either have a still frame showing on the projector, and the right time, just show the video, or have a black screen until I show the video. At the completion of the video I want the screen to go back to black. At no time do I want to show on the projector the desktop or any of the quicktime controls.
What can I do from the laptop side that would allow me to bring up the video and freeze it at a title screen and then start it without any keyboard activity being shown on the screen?
Though, without doubt, I am an amateur at this, I would like the presentation to be as "professional" as possible, given what I have to work with.
All help and ideas are greatly appreciated....
Paul

Your best bet is to use the "blank screen" feature on the projector. Almost all projectors have this feature. You can then turn on and blank the projector screen, get the video running on your mac and then unblank it when you are ready. When the video is over, blank the projector at the end of the video and then worry about closing the video on the mac.
If for some reason the projector does not have this feature, or it is not convenient (for example, you can't find the remote to the projector and don't want to walk up to it, or it is on the ceiling) then your best bet is to edit your video so there is a few seconds of "black screen" at both the start and end of the video. Then get your video started full screen, pause it before it starts THEN turn on the projector (that will only be displaying the still blank frame and then you can start the video when you are ready. When the video is over, stand by and be alert so you can pause it when it hits the blank screen at the end of the video. You can then power off the projector.
Hopefully you will find one or both of those solutions helpful.
Whatever you do, MAKE SURE to TEST it out before hand! There is nothing more un-professional then when I see people bring in laptops that they have never used with an external display before and have no clue how to get the video out enabled. (with mac's its automatic, but with PC's sometimes you have to push a funny keyboard combo like FN + F8 to get it to work) The audience then gets to stairs at the "NO INPUT" screen of the projector as you scramble around tying to get it to work. lol.

  • How can I control the video playback start and end time?

I'd like to be able to start a video/audio playback at a particular point in time say 3 seconds from the starts of the video and play it for only 3 seconds. How can I set the unique start and end points rather than play the whole video. I'd also like to be able to do this using the SeriesElement so I can set the start and end play points for a series of stacked videos. How can this be achieved?

Not sure I understand the question.  Can't you just append the param to the URL?  Like so:
    var url = new URL("http://video-research/video.f4v?start_time=500");
If your question is more about playing a subclip of a progressive video, that's not something OSMF has support for.  You'd need to write a server script which checks for that parameter and then returns the relevant portion of the requested file.  (This is typically referred to as "pseudo-streaming", if you Google that term you'll find a wealth of info.)

  • How to programmatically control the Image display size

    I wonder if
it is possible to let the Vi adapt the size of the VISION image display if the
user zooms in the displayed picture (as can be done in other graphical software
like Photoshop or ImageI). Is there something prepared?

If you are using LV 7.1, there is a property node that let you define the size of the image display.

  • How tow connect two external displays that are not mirrored and turn of the retina display

    Hello,
    I have two questions:
    1.  Is it possible to use two external displays either mirrored or not and turn off the retina display, and if so how it is done?
    2.  Is it possible to close the MBP and use an external keyboard while using two external displays?
I am using a music production DAW Persons Studio One-2 Pro and it would be great to be able to have this type of a setup.
    Thank You,

    Macbook Pro  15" Retina display I7 2,3mz 500gb SSD late 2013  OSX Yosemite 10.10.1

    Hi Breezinabout,
The MacBook Pro Late 2013 retina display model will support two external displays. See this specifications page for reference -
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications
    Specifically -
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors
    And -
    Thunderbolt digital video output
    Native Mini DisplayPort output
DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)
VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately)
    HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
You would, if you wish, turn off the internal display by closing the MacBook Pro, which is called "closed-clamshell" mode. It requires you to have an external keyboard and mouse. See this article for further information -
How to use your Mac notebook computer in closed-clamshell (display closed) mode with an external display - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How do I airplay the video only?

This may be either a very inane question, but I will ask it anyways.
How do I airplay the video only from within OS X Mavericks? And when I say Airplay, I am meaning essentially the same functionality my Ipad Air has when I choose Airplay. It sends the video to my Apple TV 3rd Gen, and only displays on the TV, not the Ipad.
I may not be phrasing it right, but I have yet to find the solution. I do not want to mirror my display or use an extended desktop situation. I am just looking to stream the video/audio say from a webpage, but only have it play on the tv, not within the safari browser. The ipad, iphone, touch all seem to have this functionality, yet I cannot seem to find the answer when it comes to my MBP and Mavericks.

Sorry for the slow response,  Had a hot potato I had to deal with.
I probably wasn't clear.  We have a datefield on the form.  We populate it from a database.  The field has a format code of MM/DD/YYYY in it, but the time keeps coming up when populated.  I don't want to see the time at all.
    From the language ref 3.5:
    formatString
    property
    formatString:String
The format of the displayed date in the text field.       This property can contain any combination of "MM",        "DD", "YY", "YYYY",       delimiter, and punctuation characters.
    The default value is "MM/DD/YYYY".

First, go to iMovie/Preferences and enable the Advanced Tools.
Import the video clip into an iMovie Event. When you get ready to use it in an iMovie Project, select the clip in the Event and drag & drop it on top of a video or photo clip in the project at the place where you want it to begin. When the pop-up menu appears, choose Audio Only.

  • How can I delete the video and keep the Audio  in a few frames using Imovie 11

How can I delete the video and keep the Audio  in a few frames using Imovie 11?

I've met the problem too before. but i solved it with  Audio Converter Mac instead of iMovie. If you have similar situation that just want to keep audio but not video, and if your file format is not workable in iMovie, you can use the Audio Converter for help too. it can easily help to extract audio soundtrack from any video format. Or if you need to convert one audio format to another, it is a good choice too, because it supports many common audio output formats.

Thanks for the response.   My system is Windows 7 with a painfully slow ATT

    I got the "Cloud" including CS6 , yesterday,after a chat with a nice Indian

I now have the Adobe Premiere Pro loaded (it took nine hours) and

My videos from my iphone are horrible when I transfer them to my PC. How can I improve the video on my PC? Can I just convert the files to WMV? When the video plays the speed is off, it's half slow-motion and staggers into normal play. The clips are slightly cut as well, the clips do not roll continuously.  I'm taling about videos that are no more than 2 minutes long.  I'm frustrated and I could really use some advice-my kids basketball games is what I'm recording and I'm trying to send them to my family (they are not very tech savvy). Thanks

Not it's only function but one for which it was most admirably suited, which is why I really hope someone can find a work around. I am hoping my post to the Apple feedback may prompt a useful response from Apple and I live in hope that my post here will elicit a useful response from another user. I did not miss the the text at the top of the feedback form but you presumably missed my initial text, 'someone here can explain' or my subsequent 'work around from another user'
Just in case anyone reading this has a large collection of music videos, video podcasts or iTunes U then DO NOT upgrade your iPad to iOS 5. If you are considering purchasing the iPad as a useful mobile device to experience these media organised in your iTunes please don't as you will be wasting your money. (unless someone on this forum knows of a way to undo the mess created by those infallible folks at Apple)
Yes I know it does other things but the purpose I bought it for doesn't work anymore

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.
