Normally you cannot decompile C++ programs in a useful way. C# and VB can usually be decompiled in a useful way because they contain a lot of metadata in addition to executable instructions (such as variable names and object structures).
C++ strips all that information from its binary files and it cannot be easily restored.

Sharepoint 2010 Remote Development using Visual Studio 2013 Connection Errors

I have a customer who is using a custom skinned site developed in Sharepoint 2010.
I am trying to debug a webpart that is not loading on a page.
My Environment:
Local Laptop running Win 7 64 Enterprise, Visual Studio 2013, and Sharepoint Designer 2010.
I connect to the customers network via VPN and use RDP to access the server. I have Admin rights to the server.
Everything that I have read indicates that Web Part dev has to be done in VS. When I try to connect using server explorer, VS kicks back a 'Server Can not be found' error.
I have tried using the computer name, the app url listed in SP Central Admin, the IP address of the box, and the actual URL of the site. However, VS can not connect to the server.

The last connection article is confusing because one of the SO answers indicates that you do not need to have SP2010 installed.
I have been doing lots of reading on SP structure, and it seems to jump all over the place. (Or at least my research does). I have been reading this Ebook:

My questions are:
Why cant I connect to the Server if I connected through VPN which would inherently make the server a local network computer?
Do I need to have VS installed on the actual server? I read that I can install Sharepoint Foundation locally and this will give me access to the server in VS.
Do I need to have the full version of VS installed in order to use Remote Tools?
For the Web Parts:
Why cant I see the web parts in Sharepoint Designer? I take it they are exclusively designed in VS, which brings me back to the questions above.
In Sharepoint Designer, I can see a custom view that was created from a custom list. I want to add that list to the page where the web part isnt working. When I open up the Edit Interface, and try to find that list, it does not display in the 'Lists and Libraries'

As per your description, remote deployment is not possible for server side code in sharepoint so if you are using server object model then you won't be able to debug or deploy your solution from visual studio.
VS is not required to installed on UAT/prod server but you need sharepoint along with visual studio in same development machine to develop any custom webpart.
Once you deploy your custom webpart on site then you will be able to see that webpart in webpart gallery and that gallery is also available in designer so it means you can also add your custom webpart from designer to any page.

Integrating Crystal Report 2008 Developer with Visual Studio 2008 Standard

I have Crystal Reports 2008 Developer version 12.0.0.683 on my computer. I also have Visual Studio 2008 Standard. I know the standard edition of VS 2008 does not have the bundled crystal reports, but since I bought the full version of CR 2008 separately, I figure I should be able to use CR within VS 2008. The problem I am facing is integrating Crystal Reports with Visual Studio, so I can create reports from within visual studio.
Crystal Reports was installed first and then Visual Studio. As per suggestions on this and other forums, I repaired my installation of Crystal Reports, but that did not help. I then ran Visual Studio integration manager, but when I run it, it only detects Visual Studio as the currently installed IDE, but does not detect CR 2008. I downloaded service pack 2 for CR, but have not installed it yet. I do not want to install it if it is not going to help. I would also like to avoid uninstalling my copy of CR if at all possible.
I am a newbie at development in visual studio. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Don't want to go against what Jason said as it may be correct - if we go strictly by the documentation provided (sorry Jason, Dan says...). However, here is something to try;
Uninstall CR. Look for any left overs; c:\program files\business objects\... and delete all of that.
Look in the registry for HKLM\software\business objects and remove the business objects entry.
Download CR 2008 from here:

That is a trial version and I believe it is already at SP 1. Use your keycode to install. Once this is done, you should have the ability to use CR in .NET. I'd recommend you do apply sp 2 now also.

Running Programs outside of Visual Studio

I'm new to programming so I was wondering, the programs that I create in Visual Studio using the Visual Basic language, can they be run without the use of the Visual Studio Program. Like say I want to send one of the programs I've made to a friend so I can
show them what I have made.

you do not need visual studio to run an application you have developed with visual studio. However, Visual Basic .Net and C# applications will need the .Net framework that comes preinstalled with Windows 7, 8 and 10.

[Discussion] Interested in SaaS program creation in Visual Studio

I am interested to know what some of my options in creating a SaaS program? I currently program in VB6 and VB.net. I have created some Web Applications but I feel that migrating my Windows Desktop Application to a 100% pure Website application
will not be a good fit.
Could someone possible explain to me what exactly the difference is between a ASP.net Web Application and a SaaS application?
My current understanding tells me they are the same. They both are hosted on a web server and both run via the browser.

Version of jvm.dll compatible with 64-bit development on Visual Studio 2013?

Hi. I am building a 64-bit C++ application under Visual Studio 2013. I am using jvm.dll to call Java methods from within the application. The issue is that the version of jvm.dll that is distributed with Java 7 and Java 8 are compiled with Visual Studio 2010 (and thus rely on the msvcr100.dll runtime library). This makes it very dangerous to use with a Visual Studio 2013 application which uses msvcr120.dll (mixing runtime libraries is a very big no-no). I am seeing random memory errors as a result, at the JNI interface level.
Is there any way to get a version of jvm.dll that is compiled with Visual Studio 2013 and is thus dependent on msvcr120.dll?

About EFI development with Visual Studio

Hi all!
Please help me about this problem issue bellow.
I 'm developing for a demo application about UEFI and EFI technology.
I using EFI_Toolkit_2.0 to build this demo follow some step on command line of Visual Studio from 2005 to 2010 , on Win7 32bit:

Download a Project file for Visual Studio regarding the Kinect for Windows v2? Getting Started with Kinect Development in Visual Studio

I am currently trying to make an application for Kinect for Windows v2 but I am entirely new to Visual Studio and Kinect development and could use some help getting started. I honestly have no idea where or how to start and I figured the easiest thing would
be to obtain a simple project file and examine how it works myself, but I have been unable to find one. The easiest thing would be if I could obtain a project file for Visual Studio that is an application which overlays the Skeletal model over people in real
time, though similar project files would also be appreciated. The app I am making largely involves things similar to overlaying the skeletal model on bodies so this would get me off to a great start and show me how the code is laid out within visual studio
simultaneously. (I would prefer the code to be in C# if that is possible but other languages also work).
I have checked out some of the guides for kinect development but they all assume you know how visual studio works so I cannot get very far in them. Thus if you know of a good guide to get me started with visual stuido AND the Kinect then I would be glad
to here that as well.
Alternatively, and I know this is not the right place for this, I have Matlab, which I know works for the Kinect v1 but can't find support for it regarding the v2, so if you could point me in the right direction on how to get it to work with the Kinect v2
THAT would also work incredibly well as I am much more familiar with Matlab.
I already have Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 installed, as well as the Kinect SDKv2.0, the physical Kinect for Windows v2, and my laptop meets all of the requirements for development so those are not issues.

Will a Microsoft Office Add-In developed in Visual Studio work for both a Windows and Mac ( osx ) versions of Ms Office?

I want to develop a Microsoft Office Word Add-In for Mac Users. I would like to know if we create it using Visual Studios in windows will it be compatible with the Mac version of office or is there a whole another way to develop for Mac?

Office:Mac 2011 only supports add-ins that were developed in VBA. Office:Mac 2008 does not support add-ins at all. A
new version of Office:Mac is slated for release in 2015, there have been no announcements as of this writing (December 2014) whether Microsoft will support additional methods of developing add-ins in the new version of Office:Mac.

SharePoint 2013 State Machine Workflow Developped using Visual Studio 2013 Terminated

Hi all,
I developped a state machine workflow using Visual Studio 2013, and deplyed to SharePoint 2013, the workflow work fine for first task, and some times for second task.
after that the workflow become terminated with below error:
- System.Activities.Statements.WorkflowTerminatedException: The workflow instance exceeded the throttle of 10000 activities executed in a row and could not be unloaded because it was not persistable.
I spent many days to solve this issue but witout any result...

According to your description, there seems an endless loop in your workflow which makes the workflow exceed the throttle.
A suggestion is that you can create a new clean sample state machine workflow firstly, when it works without error, then adding other activities with custom logic
gradually.
By doing this, it would be easier to find out what might cause the error in this workflow.

I am just getting started SharePoint and developing .NET web parts for SharePoint. One of the things that is annoying me is that I have to remotely log in to server which is hosting SharePoint Foundation to do the development. It is making
development extremely slow.
Is there a way to develop visual studio web parts on your local machine and then deploy?
I am not sure if I even provided enough information. But please let me know if I can provide any more details.

Sandbox solutions require the Server Object Model to be installed locally. The only form of development you can do without having SharePoint installed is the SharePoint 2013 App model.
