A protected AAC song I purchased isn't available to convert to iTunes Plus.

I'm in the process of converting my songs from the protected AAC format to the purchased AAC format.  A song I purchased a while back is in the protected AAC format and doesn't show up in the iTunes Plus section of the store.  I've already looked at the get info on the song, and my account is in the purchased section.  Why isn't this song available?  Is there a way to fix this?

Several possibilities:
If you have purchased songs from multiple accounts, the Store will give you a separate list of available upgrades for each. But it sounds like you have already verfied that you are looking at the correct account.
There is a recent bug whereby the upgrade list will sometimes show only full albums, not individual songs.  Search in the Store itself to see if the song exists in its new (Plus) version.  If the song exists and is for sale, but is not showing in your upgrade list, then bring it to the attention of iTunes Customer Service.
The other possibility is that the song that you bought back in the day is no longer for sale.  In this case there is no way to get an upgrade.  However, you can use iTunes to burn the song to an audio CD, which some people find to be... handy.

  • IPhone stops playing Protected AAC songs

My iPhone stops playing songs in the middle.  All the songs that stop are Protected AAC songs-old purchases.  It happened on a 3G, and now on a new 4GS.  They play fine on my computer.  Sometimes it skips to the next song automatically, sometimes you can skip manually, occasionally it loses its way entirely.  It's been happening for the last few months, but not too often in my library.  It is perfectly repeatable for each song, down to the second it stops, but the timing varies by the song.

I actually have a song that plays back perfectly in iTunes. It also plays back fine when selecting the song on the iPhone through iTunes. However, when disconnecting the iPhone and playing it back just through the iPhone the song will distort after 16-17 seconds and skip to the next song. This doesn't happen however if I manullay skip the first 17 seconds of the song. It's a strange circumstance. I just decided to delete the song all together from my iPhone.

  • Protected AAC song won't play

I am trying to play a song that is a protected AAC purchased song. It comes up wanting the userid and password which I put in. Then I get the message that this computer is already authorized but the song still doesn't play.
Also, is there a way to get a list of all the songs I have purchased over the years from iTunes?

  • All protected AAC files (older purchases) stop playing after a handful of seconds following iTunes update

So I just noticed that after upgrading iTunes to v10.6.1(7) every single older protected AAC files QUITS playing after a certain number of seconds.  The exact time interval depends on the album, but without fail, they all quit.  I recently upgraded to lion after a fresh install of snow leopard.  I had backed up the iTunes music folder on an external hard drive and imported to library after installing lion.  Very, very frustrating...

I seen this a few times.
Do a test, delete one of those files/albums. Then re-download it from iTunes in the Cloud.
I bet you the new DL will work.  If this solves it, then just remove the other older songs/albums, and then re-dl them from iTunes Store.

  • HT204406 I purchased an album from itunes, and put it in a playlist. icloud status lists all the songs as purchased, and when I click on "Update itunes Match", this playlist will not update. There is a cloud to the right of the playlist name.

I purchased an album from the itunes store, and put it in a playlist. icloud status listed all the songs as purchased, instead of the usual "Waiting". When I clicked on "Update itunes Match", everything updated except this playlist. There is a cloud to the right of the playlist name. This has never happened before.
    Any ideas?

I deleted the songs from my desktop (iMac), then I used itunes match to reload the songs back on my desktop from my laptop. When they reappeared on my desktop, then I right-clicked on the songs and clicked on the option to add to icloud. This however did not work, and they just duplicated into icloud, but they were "greyed out" and unuseable. I hope I'm explaining myself clearly? In other words, the songs seem to be trying to go into the cloud, but they are greyed out in my library and cannot download. It is as if they are ghosts? My songs do play fine when I transfer them via itunes match, and everything appears normal. They just won't transfer via the cloud. As I said before, every other song in my library always work fine via the could, but only the songs off this one album that I bought from itunes in 07' will not work???

  • Purchased DRM restricted music, now its on iTunes Plus

I purchased some music from iTunes that was DRM restricted, looking back at the artists album I see now that their tracks are on iTunes Plus and therefore DRM Free.
Is there any way of redownloading the unrestricted tracks, or do I really have to pay again just to use the music how I want?
    Any help input, Cheers.

    hi
Well, you will need to sign in > click on iTunes Plus, there will be this option 'upgrade my library' - check it out it will have all the new un-drm versions of the songs & videos you had purchased perviously.
Upgrade charge: 0.20p per song / 0.40p per music video.
Keep in mind you cannot upgrade per song or video... if have many songs & videos you will need to upgrade them together at once.

  • Can not convert protected aac-song to mp3

I want to make an mp3 cd to play in my car, the stereo in my car supports no aac, itunes does not allow to convert aac to mp3, in this way I can not use the songs I bought in the itunes store to be played in my car.
    Who has a solution?

The sooner we get the preamble out of the way, the sooner we can answer your question. So ...
The iTunes Store is in the business of selling songs made with the Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) Codec, otherwise referred to as MPEG-4 files or .m4p's. That's what they sell and, excepting Audiobooks, Podcasts, Videos, TV Shows, Movies and Games (I think I've covered everything) that's all that they sell.
Furthermore, the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store are copy-protected . As a result of this, these songs cannot be converted to other formats, specifically they cannot be converted to the MP-3 format.
There is a workaround, though, for those who may want to make use of purchased songs in a non-AAC compatible application such as an mp-3 player or Windows Movie Maker.
A reminder about your obligations with songs you've bought from iTS is in order before proceeding. First a disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, although I am old enough to have watched a few episodes of Perry Mason when I was a kid.
Among the Terms of Service agreed to in opening an account with the Music Store is:
9 b. Use of Products. You acknowledge that Products contain security technology that limits your usage of Products to the following Usage Rules, and you agree to use Products in compliance with such Usage Rules.
And among the Usage Rules referred to above:
You shall be entitled to export, burn or copy Products solely for personal, noncommercial use.
Any burning or exporting capabilities are solely an accommodation to you and shall not constitute a grant or waiver (or other limitation or implication) of any rights of the copyright owners in any content, sound recording, underlying musical composition, or artwork embodied in any Product.
One final point before getting to the answer to your question, the Software License Agreement with Apple for iTunes that you agreed to states in part:
This software may be used to reproduce materials. It is licensed to you only for reproduction of non-copyrighted materials, materials in which you own the copyright, or materials you are authorized or legally permitted to reproduce. ... If you are uncertain about your right to copy or permit access to any material you should contact your legal advisor.
The purpose of the agreements and the security technology referred to is to deter music piracy. This fits in with the advice offered on all our iPod boxes: Don't steal music.
Preamble out of the way, So how do you use your purchased songs with an MP-3 device?
First go to the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Burning tab and select Disc Format: Audio CD . Press OK .
You can now create an Audio CD of your purchased songs.
The next step is to go to the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Importing tab and select Import Using: MP3 Encoder with the Setting of your choice. Press OK .
Now you can import the Audio CD into iTunes.
Alternatively, the importing of the Audio CD can be done with the media player of your choice.
That's it. You will now have files that you can use with an MP-3 application. It is important to emphasize you are still limited to "personal, noncommercial use" of the songs as per your agreement with iTMS.
Please note that as a result of this process the copies will suffer some loss of audio fidelity compared to the original files.
Any further questions, please post back.
I promise to keep the answer short.

  • Can't Import Right Protected AAC songs into Garage Band

I have always been able to take a track from my iTunes library (whether the track was a purchased iTunes or one ripped from a CD) and bring into Garage Band to play with (I'm currently trying to make christmas ringtones for my Droid). All of a sudden, Garage Band is giving me an error code that I can't import songs that are right protected. I just imported (and saved as a ringtone) a song and now, 20 minutes later I can't do it. Does anyone have an answer for me? I appreciate any feedback.

It was never possible to import DRM protected songs from iTunes. The others were probably unprotected songs (which you can buy on iTunes too).

  • "Protected AAC" songs "not authorized" on Apple TV

will play in iTunes. Songs purchased from iTunes, but not showing as "protected", play just fine.
I've tried deauthorizing, and resetting the factory settings on the Apple TV, but no resolution yet.

Is there anything useful here or here?

  • HT201272 When will downloading of previously purchased movies be available to non US iTunes account?

I have a new Mac. I;ve been able to download previously purhcased music and tv shows, but not movies.
Seems its only available in US only. Which seems unfair......

We are just fellow users here, and until Apple announces something nobody on here will know. As it is not all films can be re-downloaded in the US as not all film studios have agreed to it - and the studios will need to agree to allow it in other countries before it can happen.

  • Difference between AAC, matched and purchased

To upgrade my Protected AAC audio files, I subscribed to iMatch. Through the iCloud dowload service, I was able to download (what I believe are) uprotected AAC audio files. However, Depending on the song, they got converted to any of the three different 'kind' of files:
    - AAC audio file @ 128kpbs
    - Matched AAC audio file @ 256kbps
    - Purchased AAC audio file @ 256kbps
Some of the songs have not been converted and remained Protected.
Can anybody explain why these differend kinds occured and what their difference is (appart from the bit rate)?
    Thanks in advance
    Patrick

I copied this from about.com, hope it helps:
AAC audio file: This is a standard AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) file. Most likely, you created this file by converting an MP3 or ripping the song from CD using iTunes' built-in AAC encoder.
Matched AAC audio file: This is a standard AAC audio file, except that you downloaded it to your computer or iOS device from your iCloud account, using iTunes Match.
MPEG audio file: This is a standard MP3 file. You may have downloaded it from the web or ripped the song from a CD using iTunes' built-in MP3 encoder.
Protected AAC audio file: A protected AAC file was the default filetype for songs purchased from the iTunes Store prior to the introduction of the DRM-free iTunes Plus format in April 2009. It is noted as being protected because the DRM built into the file prevents it from being copied/shared beyond the iTunes account it's associated with.
Purchased AAC audio file: A purchased AAC file is what a protected AAC file becomes when it's been upgraded to the iTunes Plus format. This file was still purchased at the iTunes Store, but it no longer has the DRM-based copy restrictions. All songs at the iTunes Store sold after April 2009 are in the Purchased AAC audio file format.

  • Converting protected aac to purchased aac without itunes match

    hi everyone.
i want to convert a bunch of protected aac's to purchased aac's without signing up for itunes match. i'm willing to pay the 30 cents per song. i can't figure out how to do this though. previous discussions have included a link, but when i follow that link, i get a message that the itunes store is busy.
i'd be grateful for any assistance. i know that variants of this have been discussed before but they are a few years old and before itunes match.
    thanks!

    Pam,
That program to upgrade tracks for 30 cents each ran for several years, but was discontinued last year.  That is why the links no longer work.
If you don't want to use the Match approach, you can use iTunes to burn your songs to audio CD.  This will result in an audio CD that can be used just like any other audio CD.

  • Newby! Dwnlded music to use in video editing-protected AAC- can I?

I am a first timer and downloaded some songs to use in editing a video of a recent cruise. The songs turn out to be Protected AAC or ACC format, whichever, and cannot be converted per the iTunes program. Is there anything I can do to get some value out of these files?
I would like to have them in .wma or .wav format. Is there anywhere one can buy usable music as if it came from a store CD?
    Rich

The songs turn out to be Protected AAC or ACC format, whichever, and cannot be converted per the iTunes program. Is there anything I can do to get some value out of these files?
At present, tracks purchased from any legal download store carrying major-label content, including the iTunes Store, are copy-protected and so cannot be directly converted to any other format. You can, however, burn the tracks purchased from the iTunes Store out to an audio CD, at which point it will act just like any other normal audio CD.
EMI is going to be releasing their catalog in non-protected format, but I don't think any of the download stores have it yet. The iTunes Store will have them available in May (they'll be higher price, but an upgrade price for those who have already purchased tracks will be available). None of the other major labels have yet followed suit, so the only other source of unprotected music will be from the independent distributors such as eMusic.
Note that regardless of the source, you can use the music in a video if it's for personal use, but it will be illegal to give the video away or use it in any sort of public performance. Just so you know. If you want music that you can use in a public performance or give away without having to get licenses and pay royalties, there are companies that sell royalty-free music. Once you purchase, you can pretty much use it as you wish from then on.
    Regards.

    Hi,
You need to authorise those tracks using your old Apple ID and password i.e. the one you used when you purchased those tracks
