A question about iphone restore/backup?

Ok so I want to do a restore on my iphone, and at first I wanted to do a "rstore from backup" but it says that I do not h ave enough room to process that. So now the only way is to restore as new, and then manually select backup.
So, the question is, if I do restor as new, and then manully backup, Will my apps, music, photo, contacts, texts and everything/data I have on my iphone be backed up? So I won't loose any of these things I listed right? I just did a backup a few minutes ago, so it is the most recent backup.
Also, will my iphone SETTINGS be the same as I have now? because I don't want to readjust and set settings on my iphone again, to be more clear the settings I'm mentioning is like the brightness, oriental lock etc. Will those be set as factory settings or will it be the same as now? just wondering. Thank you so much for your answer!

If you are asking about backing up before restoring your phone, if you wish to do this on your computer rather than iCloud, connect your phone to your comptuer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now, then go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  At the end of the restore process, choose restore from iTunes Backup and choose this backup to restore from.  Your phone will look just as it does now when you're done.
Edit: Except that you may have to re-enter the passwords for your email accounts, etc.

My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?
I do not want this to happen, as with previous experience iTunes doesn't restore a mirror of what the iPhone was when it was backed up as is the case with iCloud backups.
What I am trying to do is, as I've found a method on Youtube, there is an application where I can delete all the multimedia saved in my 'iMessages' so clear up some space. As doing that manually through the phone would take a lifetime. The method is to backup on iTunes, then using the backup created, importing that into the application then deleting the messages through that then restoring the phone using that amended backup.
So back to my question, would restoring through 'Restore Backup' just restore the backup internally or would it flush the entire phone and then restore the backup? And if it does so, what would be lost in the restore?
    Thank you all,
    Fahmid

iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data.  However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup.  Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge.  This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup.

  • Questions about iPhone backup?

I am iPhone novice,so i have some questions about iPhone Transfer included iTunes.
    1. Only back up iPhone files via iTunes?
    2. iTunes just can back up address list and calendar?
    3. i want to back up plug-in,patch,application program, game ect, how to operate iPhone backup?Anyone can tell me simple&professional tutorial about iPhone?Or introduce a good iPhone Transfer like or better than iTunes.
Appreciate your detailed answers! Thanks in advance.

iTunes is required to transfer iTunes content from your iTunes library on your computer - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, 3rd party apps, and selected photos from your computer to your iPhone. iTunes also serves as the sync conduit for contacts and calendar events between your iPhone and the supported address book and calendar application on your computer.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. The backup does not include all data on your iPhone. The backup does not include any iTunes content - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps. All iTunes content on your iPhone should remain in your iTunes library on your computer and the backup doesn't include any photos transferred from your computer. All photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer as well.

  • Few questions about iPhone 4S

    Hi,
Recently I got an iPhone 4S, it is my first new phone in a long time, before this I had an old nokia, so I just have a few questions about it.
I havve read a alot of horror stories about the 4S battery life, mine seems ok, here is what I would like to know
    1) How long should a healthy battery last?
    2) how long should it take to charge to 100% from 1 or 2%?
On my daily commute I use listen it to music and sometimes user twiiter/facebook. I also get alerted of emails when they come in. So far it has just about lasted just about two days maybe before I had to recharge. Is this about right? As stated above I am coming from an old nokia, which is very dated now but the battery lasted almost a week before I had to charge, so having to charge my phone this often is new to me. My iPhone is really great and I just don't want any problems. I have turned off all extras that I don't need.
BTW are the iPhone 4S battery issues a software or hardware issue?
    Thanks

I attempted to read your post, but in amongst all the random, unrelated waffling, I couldn't actually find exactly what your iPhone related question for this "Using iPhone" forum was.
Would you like to clarify? Concisely.

  • Backup with iOS6, restore iPhone, restore backup -- will I end up with iOS6 or iOS7?

If I backup my iPhone5 that currently has iOS6, restore the iPhone, then restore backup -- will I end up with iOS6 or iOS7?  When I click "restore iPhone", a message appears that says the latest software will be installed.  I don't want iOS7 (yet).

Backups are data only, not iOS.
A restore will always be the current version of iOS for the device.

  • Question about the restore feature

My phone went blank two weeks ago-- i did a soft reboot and now the phone no longer will connect with my car to make phone calls.
If i hit restore -- how far back does this go-- will i loose apps that i have installed later?? will it help my phone reconnect with my car??
the car is a BMW 3 series and says it is ready to connect. . . it definitely something with the phone
it is an iphone 3, software 4.0.2

Restoring an iPhone with iTunes completely erases the iPhone first followed by the firmware being re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, there are two options. From your iPhone's backup which is the default selection, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup which must be manually selected. After either option, this must be followed by a sync with iTunes to transfer your selected content under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. When restoring from your iPhone's backup, what is currently selected under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes will be pre-selected since this is included with your iPhone's backup. Your iPhone's backup is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process and you are prompted to update your iPhone's backup as the first step after selecting Restore.
This link provides the data that is included with your iPhone's backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
3rd party apps are not included with your iPhone's backup. All 3rd party apps on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer and will be if you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. If this is not currently selected and most or all apps on your iPhone are not in your iTunes library on your computer, before selecting Sync Apps with your iPhone connected, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This should include all paid and free apps. After this select Sync Apps making sure all apps on your iPhone are selected below before syncing.
3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup.
Not sure if this will help with your iPhone connecting with your car.

  • Another question about iPhones and malware/virus

Thought I would post this as a separate question.
iPhone 4s. legit (not jail broke)
I know the iOS is pretty protected against virus and malware.  And that you cannot download things onto the phone other than through the app store
But what about what they call drive by downloads? Where you go to a web page and it automatically installs something without asking?

    UACount wrote:
thanks all. This is so freaky to me. If the iOS is so safe, why doesnt every PC use it?  And I dont mean that sarcastically
It's very safe but it also puts very severe limits on what the user can do to tweak the OS and on things that applications can do. For example, most people would balk at only being able to by applications for their computer from one approved source. In fact, a lot of people don't like that about iPhones. Some people prefer freedom to modify their device to security.
In fact, the Mac OS, which historically been less prone to viruses is adopting some of the feature of iOS.

  • Simple question about iPhone backups and password

I can't remember the password to my iPhone-backup in iTunes. But, phew, I haven't lost any data, as I have my iPhone with all data intact. So I deleted the backup in iTunes, and tried to start a fresh backup with a new password. But alas, that doesn't seem to be possible (it backs up, but doesn't ask for a password, and when trying to uncheck encryption I get asked for a password).
Does this mean iTunes now won't let me back up and retrieve the data I actually have on my very own phone? And does it mean that I now have two options:
    a. Keep on using my iPhone, keeping the data on it, but without the ability to backup and retrieve the backups, or
    b. restore and set up my iPhone as a new device, losing all my data

If you update you will not be able to go back to a previous iOS version. The iOS is not included in the backup.  The following link gives details of what is included: iTunes: About iOS backups

  • Questions about iPhone 3G restore

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered in other posts....I searched but couldn't find the exact answers I was after.
I have recently upgraded to an iPhone 4 and I'm selling my 3G. I restored the unit from within the phone settings as I didn't want to upgrade it to iOS4. I had previously unlocked the phone through the carrier legitimately. As it currently stands the phone now requires connection to itunes and an active Sim card to activate the unit (just how I wanted it). The questions I have are:
    1) What firmware will the phone now have? Would it have restored it back to the original firmware provided with the phone, or will it still have 3.1.3 that was on the phone before restore?
    2) Will the phone still be unlocked after the restore?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    1) What firmware will the phone now have? Would it have restored it back to the original firmware provided with the phone, or will it still have 3.1.3 that was on the phone before restore?
It will have the current signed firmware from Apple, which is 4.0.2 if you retored recently.
    2) Will the phone still be unlocked after the restore?
If officially unlocked to begin with, yes it will still be unlocked.

  • Question about Disk Image Backup/Restoring

Ok, so i have a weird Boot Camp error that requires reformatting of my whole drive. Now I have thought up a procedure that I think will work, let me know if this is a viable option:
1: Hook up a 320GB External Firewire Drive
2: Boot up using the 10.6 DVD
    3: Go into Disk Utility
4: Make an image of the Macintosh HD and save it to the External Drive
    5: Format the Macintosh HD
6: Restore the Macintosh HD using the Image
If i do this, will everything be hunky dory? Nothing is wrong with this? Thanks!

Copy the content of the external to the internal--into an appropriately named folder. Then, clone your internal to the external. I would just use DU. First, use DU to partition the external GUID--which also will format it OS X extended (journaled). You might want to make two partitions if you have room (see below). To clone, go to the restore tab; select your internal volume and drag it to the source box. Then, select your external and drag it to the destination box. Then, click restore. If you can't perform the operation without previously selecting erase distination, then select it; let DU erase again; and then click restore.
In an hour, more or less, you'll be ready to take care of your internal drive issue. Piece of cake. When you have fixed the internal, then just clone you Sno install on the external back to the internal. If you made two partitions, then copy the original external data to the second partition and remove it from your Sno installs if you want.

  • New iphone, restore backup failed with - An error occurred. How do I fix this?

Have tried to follow the transfer instructions but it does not seem to work.
Everytime I choose to restore a backup when I set up / activate the new iphone, it fails after some 10-12 seconds with the message that it could not restore because an error occurred.
It says nothing else about what the error is and I have to start the set up / activation all over.
So how so I solve this?
Other 'answers' says how to transfer, but it does not work for me and the answers I have found does not address this issue.

Search the error code in the support search and you should find something that will walk you through it, but without an error code it's a little hard to know what you're talking about

  • Few questions about iPhone vs Touch

Okay so i'm thinking of getting an iPod Touch but since I have AT&T already I might get an iPhone instead. But a few things are keeping me undecided.
I know that you need to activate your iPhone and from reading a few things on this website it says that the store you buy it from does it. I already have a wireless contract with AT&T, so do I need to pay some kind of activation fee or can I just stick my SIM card into it.
Also I want to make sure that I can still use my iPhone as a normal iPod if I were to cancel my contract with AT&T. Now I ready on this website that you just need to get the SIM card in your phone that was used to activate it and you should be able to fix it, is this correct?
Now if it is correct what if my SIM card messes up or something? My mom and dad both had their SIM cards go haywire within 24 hours of each other. How can I use it then?
Last, I have been hearing problems about 3G vs WiFi, like youtube going slow when on WiFi but perfect on 3G. Does this problem still exist? Is it fixable? How easy is it to switch from 3G to just WiFi or to basically shut off 3G? I do not pay for a data plan so I do not need to end up with a $200 bill because I accidentally used 3G instead of WiFi.
Last question, can you still use the iPhone like you can the iPod for listening to music in your car and still receive phone calls with no problems?
So what are the pros and cons vs iTouch vs iPhone?

I know that you need to activate your iPhone and from reading a few things on this website it says that the store you buy it from does it. I already have a wireless contract with AT&T, so do I need to pay some kind of activation fee or can I just stick my SIM card into it.
How much will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
If you are not currently eligible, you may have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
    In the future, AT&T may offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.
    Is there an upgrade fee?
Yes. There is an $18 upgrade fee which will be billed to your account.
Also I want to make sure that I can still use my iPhone as a normal iPod if I were to cancel my contract with AT&T. Now I ready on this website that you just need to get the SIM card in your phone that was used to activate it and you should be able to fix it, is this correct?
If you were to Cancel your contract please remember terms and conditions apply for early termination. Once De-activated you will not be able to fully update your iPhone when an iPhone update is released as it requires an active AT&T SIM card to confirm account information and unlock the iPhone for full use.
Now if it is correct what if my SIM card messes up or something? My mom and dad both had their SIM cards go haywire within 24 hours of each other. How can I use it then?
You need an active AT&T SIM card to be able to re-activate an iPhone after a Restore and or Update of the OS. De-activated SIM cards will not work.
Switching back and fourth is pretty easy. The moment you leave a WiFi zone range it will hop onto at&t network automatically. Walk back into range of a WiFi Zone you connected to before and it will auto connect for you. Like when you leave and come back home.
iPhone comes with a $30 unlimited data plan. So you will not go over your data usage only SMS usage if you do not have a plan to cover your usage.
So what are the pros and cons vs iTouch vs iPhone?
Phone comes with a monthly bill and a contract, iPod Touch does not.

  • A few question about iPhone OS in CS5 and CS5 in general.

    Hi,
I'm an IT trainer and I am trying to introduce my students to programming for iPhone/iPod Touch. (They are Secondary 2 students. 14 years old) The school is using a windows computer and CS5 right now is the best for the class (Not a steep learning curve and a user-friendly program). I know about the problems over the iPhone OS in CS5 with Apple but I was told it is still available for use. Furthermore, we have no intention of bringing the apps created to the Apple Store. I've tried the trial version and before I make any purchase, I would actually like to ask a few questions.
Is the iPhone OS in the trial version itself complete? Is there anything left out from the trial version because when I tried it, it seems fine however I did not try publishing to an iPhone due to the certificates. Is there a reason for the certificate? Is there any way around it because if there isn't do I need to get a certificate for every single student? (I'm looking at a class of 40 students.) Is the certificate available for windows platform?
Lets say, I got myself a certificate, create a simple program and then publish it, can I immediately bring it over to iTunes and then sync? Will it work that way? I don't want it to be too tedious for the students to see the end result. I've done quite a few research and have come across people having problems bringing it into their devices. Those people mention about bringing it to Cydia and needing to jailbreak the device. The devices made available for the students are not jailbroken. Will iPhone OS with proper certification still need Cydia for use with their device? Will only jailbroken device allow a CS5 app? I hope you get what I'm trying to say. We as trainers do not support teaching students to jailbreak, so that's definitely a no-no.
Another thing about CS5. Previously I have called customer support about the CS4 the school is using now and the problem with nested animation when publishing the animation as a video file, is this problem still in CS5? Does CS5 allow nested animation to be published as a video file? If it isn't, is there any way around it?
Thank you for your time and patience in answering my questions.
    Regards,
    Shafuraa

    Dear Marco,
Thanks for th links, its quite handy. One more help required from you as its related to Idsktune. I was just reruning the idsktune on Soalris 10 box where zfs file system used, and able to see the below warning
WARNING: largefiles option is not present on mount of /, files may be limited to 2GB in size.
Could you tell me this alert specific to zfs file system, I was searching the mount parameter options specific to file size, but not able to get anything. Below are the system parameters.
    bash-3.00$ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
    file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
    open files (-n) 256
    pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 10
    stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192
    cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
    max user processes (-u) 29995
    virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited
In UFS file system I have noted, for such largefile option we are adding the "largefile" parameter in mount, below is such an example.
    /var/crash on /dev/md/dsk/d40 read/write/setuid/devices/intr/largefiles/logging/xattr/onerror=panic/dev=1540028 on Thu Aug 19 14:54:11 2010
Could you guide me on this file size warning specific to zfs file system.
Many thanks in advance for your support,

  • Newbie questions about Database replication, "backups", and sql version

Just created my first Sql Database using the "SQL Database Management Portal". A blast but three questions come to mind:
    1. Is this DB automatically
"replicated"? (In other words,  is DB "failover" or clustering,  a feature of all newly created Azure databases?)
    2. Our on-premise model is to make a daily DB backup which is saved to a nightly tape. If needed, we can restore a two-month old database backup under a new name to compare it with the current one. Does Sql Azure support this capability
or not? Can it be requested?
    3.  Which on-premise version of sql is "Sql Azure" closest to? (2014?)
    TIA,
    edm2
P.S. My database was created using the "web" edition.

    Hi edm,
According to your description, you create a SQL Azure database in Azure platform. The replication feature is not supported by Microsoft Azure SQL database. If you want to sync the SQL Azure database and local database, you can use SQL Azure Data Sync service.
    For more information, see:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_cloud_pilot/archive/2011/10/24/your-first-sql-azure-data-sync-step-by-step.aspx
In addition, if you have Web or Business Edition databases, you must create your own backup strategy. You can use database copy or Import and Export services to create copies of the data and export the file to an Microsoft Azure storage account. Meanwile,
Windows Azure SQL Database provides a mechanism for automating the process for exporting a database to BACPAC files on a set interval and frequency. For more information, see:
    Schedule an Automated Export:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh335292.aspx#automate
Windows Azure SQL Database Backup and Restore strategy:
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/3057/windows-azure-sql-database-backup-and-restore-strategy/
Currently, Azure uses a special version of Microsoft SQL Server as its backend. It provides high availability by storing multiple copies of databases, elastic scale and rapid provisioning, when we check the version of SQL Server, it shows as follows.
Microsoft SQL Azure (RTM) - 11.0.9216.62

  • Iphone restore backup problem

    Big problem here lads,
Today I transfered my purchases and synced my iphone to my itunes.
Then I installed the latest 4.3.3 software.
and when I went to restore it says it was last synced 24/11/2010
Is that it now, does that mean everything is gone?
I not only correctly synced today but i have been doing it on a regular basis since the date it is showing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i indeed came to a technical support forum requesting help and instead i got quizzed and how I was possibly able to do something.
We all know about jailbreaking and unlocking phones and indeed the "hazzards" of updating to the latest versions. And everyone also knows there are ways around doing things that apple have not"signed off" on.
Yes I have a problem which I do not know, and I admitedly I am very technical minded I am pretty **** sure that the software I have on my phone is not the issue nor would be revelant to go into exact detail on why and how I was able to do certain things.
Now please if you want to help by all means do because not only will you be helping me but certainly others who have the same problem now and in the future. However if all you want to do is be a smart *** well then your of benefit to know one.
