A question about Manage Observer by Grid Control

Hello everybody
My Enviroment:
Primary Database:
Single Instance 11.1.0.7
S.O.: SLES 10 SP2 x86_64
Standby Database:
Single Instance
S.O.: SLES 10 SP2 x86_64
Observer:
Oracle Client Administrator 11gR1 x86_64
S.O.: SLES 10 SP2 x86_64
Reading Oracle Documentation, I found at Oracle Data Guard Documentation that I have to install the full Oracle Database 10g software kit to manage observer by Enterprise Manager.
My question is I have to install Oracle Database 10g Software to manage observer by Oracle Grid Control 11g??
Thanks a lot

Thanks CKPT for awnsering.
Yes I know that I have to deploy Observer at diferent server.
So I don't have to install Oracle Database Software to manage Observer by Grid Control 11g. That 's was looking for.
Thanks a lot.May be here small confusion. I mean to say of course you have to install ORACLE_HOME(client) but no need to install/push from GRID.
You can perform installation at system level instead from GRID. Hope this clears.

  • I have three questions about managing my music library

    Hello,
I have three questions about managing my music library, I hope you can help me with them:
    1) Is there a limit of how many entries, songs, albums, art work, can iTunes handle? I have a hunch iTunes is like a database program and am curious about its capacity. I have two 2-TB drives and am wondering what is going to happen when I fill these two drives up. Other than disk space, what are iTunes limitations?
    2) Talking about these two drives. How can I use both as a source for my iTunes library. Can I have two folders selected as the source of my library? I am not sure if I have enough disk space to hold all my music, but I do also have a 1TB almost empty drive is need be.
    3) OK now comes te real question. I am sure that I have duplicates in my library and I sure would love to clean my library up.Possiby if I do get to clean it up, I can save some disk space and that is always a good thing. Any good techniques, software, techniques to follow while ripping music to help keep my library organized. Please be as detailed as you can.
Thanks and I can't wait to hear from you.

As far as I know you're going to run out of disc space before you hit any limits. Each object in iTunes has a 64-bit key to access it. That said as your library grows it will get less responsive as bigger indexes take exponentially longer to process.

iTunes wants to manage everything inside one big folder. Some idiosyncrasies with the way it manages things if you have to move to a new drive means it is best if you can stick to that plan. If your library grows larger then you'll have to take manual control of where some or all of your content is stored. I use a variation of a script called ConsolidateByMoving which you could adapt for your needs.

When it comes to deduping I've written another script for that called DeDuper, see this thread for background.

  • Functions: Oracle VM Manager vs. Grid Control Oracle VM Management Update

    Hello guys,
i have seen both tools .. and i have to say that some really basic functions are missing in the Oracle VM management addon for Grid Control 10.2.0.5 .. just some examples:
    - Renaming virtual machines (because of the prefix syntax is not very useful)
    - Adding ISOs as CD/DVD after removing them one from the profile (until now you need to know the whole path to the DVD, even if the ISO is registered in the repository)
    - Renaming image files (for example the disks of the VMs .. this would be very helpful in case of cloning machines)
    - List the VNC port for the running VMs
All these features are available under the VM Manager (except the renaming file part) ... do you know when this will be implemented or is the Oracle VM management update already "finished" in its functions.
    Regards

    Hi,
You can manage your Oracle VM environment using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c you can discover Oracle VM Servers, discover storage servers and file systems, create and edit server pools, set up networks and create storage repositories.
for more information, look at this URL.
I hope this can help you

  • How to delete a management agent from grid control completely?

I have installed oem grid control 10.2.0.4.0 on single host(oemlinux.oracle.com), and I removed agent10g, and reinstall a new management agent into a new location, but when I wanted to add a weblogic server to monitor, I got error as below:
More than one Enterprise Manager Agent was found for the host.oemlinux.oracle.com
I found there were 2 agents in em console, how to delete the old agent from em console, anybody can help me?

Click on the All targets tab, delete the agent.
Then confirm that the delete is in fact happening.
Click Setup, Management & Services Repository tab.
    Deleted Targets link.
Time Deleted Completed must have a date in there...
If all that fails - do a quick search - I posted the sql you can run against the repository to wipe it clean of an agent :-)
Not too that if you are removing the O/S software - you need to use the runinstaller to remove the Oracle Home from the inventory.
If you don't do this - future auto installs using the agentDownload script of the agent will fail.

  • A question about restoring from cold backup(control file backup not clear)

    Hi,
I had another question about restoring the cold backup. My database is in noarchivelog mode and after taking a consistent cold backup, all I need to do is to restore the backup right? -Why I got this question is because: when I backup my control file to trace, I see statements like this:-----
-- Commands to re-create incarnation table
-- Below log names MUST be changed to existing filenames on
-- disk. Any one log file from each branch can be used to
    -- re-create incarnation records.
    -- ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/uo1/app1/arch1_1_647102958.dbf';
-- Recovery is required if any of the datafiles are restored backups,
-- or if the last shutdown was not normal or immediate.
    RECOVER DATABASE
-- Database can now be opened normally.
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
My database is in noarchivelog mode now so don't know why these statements (of register the logfile) is there in the backup of control file? so when I restore the cold backup of this database, it will still work correct? (there is no logfile I have only CRD files in cold backup -no archive log files.)
    thanks

Thanks for your inputs! It is most useful to me.

  • Question about managing application licenses together with netboot

    Hello
So far I had made no experience with an MacOSX Server netboot configuration but we plan to introduce it in some weeks. Therefore we are "wondering" how management/assignment of application licenses is working in a netboot configuration. Normally in a local MacOSX configuration licenses for application are in generally assigned on the application (some are bound to a certain user name, others to the CPU ID) and is valid for all users login to the same computer. How and at which time are application licenses (for example MS Office 2004, Adobe Acrobat etc.) assigned in a netboot environment?
Many thanks in advance for any clarification and with best regards, André Müller

    Hi Andre,
Is this a technical or legal question Either way it is an interesting question about a major grey-area, and I wonder if anyone has the right answer.
Boiling your question down to specifics, it could be...
I have 15 individual Photoshop serials. I want to run Photoshop off a NetBoot image for 15 simultaneous users. Can I install one serial on the image, and allow 15 users to open Photoshop simultaneously. What if I want to install the image on 20 machines, but only 15 users will ever use Photoshop simultaneously.
There is a technical answer and a legal answer to the question. I don't know if there is a 'right' answer since multi-user installations of titles that are technically possible under NetBoot may not be allowed legally under the user license agreement you committed to on breaking the seal on the software. And these agreements are different for different countries.
Here's the technial answer. Sometime before OSX server 10.0, when Apple introduced netboot technology, developers were advised not to perform network scans checking for duplicate serial numbers when aps start up.
In practice this means you can install software title on your image, activate with a serial number, and it will not conflict with the other identical versions of the same application on other images on the network.
FileMaker Pro is the only software I am aware of that doesn't play by these rules, altthough it no longer checks when the applicaton starts, but when any FMPro network activity is started.
Here's the leagl answer. It depends on the title and the country you are in. The legality is definded under the eulas for the titles concerned. I don't know if the leaglity has ever been tested in a court of law in any country in this context.
The easy way to do the right thing for some titles it to purchase a multi-user serial number, ie. a single number which will work for 5 or 10, 20, 50... etc. users. Fore example, FileMaker has a volume licensing serial number which I beleieve can be purchased in increments of 10 users. However, not all titles offer this option, though, and it's difficult if you need 12 copies and have to buy 20.
Sassafras software http://www.sassafras.com/ sells Keyserver, which may be an appropriate solution. Keyserver tracks installations and authenticates serial numbers to ensure no more than the licensed number of copies can be run at the same time.
I don't think I've answerede your question for you but hope to have expanded the contxt of the question for other suggestions.
    Good luck,
    b.

    1. Is figure 5.3 in page 165 correct?

    2. Is this transport route possible?
"During this phase, you continue dual maintenance of the development

transport changes to both quality assurance systems."
    DEV' 4.6C -> DEV 6.0 -> QAS 6.0 -> QAS' 4.6C
If we modified some standard programs and transport between two different SAP versions, I think the programs can't work, right?

Here, you need to do manual replication between both development system. No transport is possible because of different versions. I am not sure about the document that you posted but same is explained very well in upgrade guide. Please check there.

  • A few questions about managing partitions when performing a recovery

    Hello everybody,
I purchased an L505-13Z about to weeks ago for personal use and light audio editing work. In these two weeks I took the time to explore and test this computer's performance and found it suitable for my needs, as it withstands even havier audio work then I will need, as tested. I am really happy with this laptop! Anyway, few optimizations I did for the audio software have wiped some needed features of the computer, so I needed to install the OS again.. Basically, I was always used to have the system install only wiping the system drive, leaving the "D:Data" partition intact. I notice this isn't the case with system recovery, as after recovery, both system and data partitions were wiped. of course everything is backed up on an external drive, but every time I perform a recovery I will need to copy everything back from the backup drive? I missed the point of this - it's exactly like having all my data saved on the system partition.. What's the need for the data partition then?
Is there a way to perform a recovery and leave the "Data" partition untouched?
My second question is if it's possible to change the size of the partitions somehow? I think that it's a bit useless to have 230G of free space for the system partition. For my needs, 100G is enough, and I could use the remaining 130G for the Data partition, I don't know why the drive is just split in half by default... (I am aware that a partition size change must wipe ALL data on the drive).
Thanks everybody in advance for any help!

If you use HDD recovery procedure - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm - the structure and data on second partition will not be deleted.
So, if you want to install OS using HDD recovery option you can move all important data from partition C to partition D.
The whole HDD will be deleted if you use recovery DVDs for OS installation.
You should not change partitions structure because it can have negative influence on further HDD recovery procedure. It can happen that recovering data will not be found anymore.
Please note: second partition D is not some kind of recovery or system partition. It is normal and usual HDD partition. There is just saved Toshiba recovery image in folder called HDDRecovery.
Best thing you can do, I done it too, is to enter properties for this folder and define it as invisible.
You will not be irritated with this folder. It is there but you cannot see it and there is no way you can delete it somehow. Use this partition as usual. Create own folders, copy data there, simply do your usual work.

  • Question about managing storage repositories

OracleVM running on 1 physical machine. Added an additional disk and created a storage repository on it.
    #mount shows:
    /dev/sda3 on /var/ovs/mount/1C4926AA2D9844D3AEE02571CDD5412F type ocfs2 (rw,heartbeat=none)
    /dev/sdb1 on /var/ovs/mount/38A4B086C030404AA8B86C0CEC8C05D5 type ext3 (rw)
The root storage repository now moved to the new /dev/sdb1 disk.
    /opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py -l
    [ * ] 38a4b086-c030-404a-a8b8-6c0cec8c05d5 => /dev/sdb1
    [   ] 1c4926aa-2d98-44d3-aee0-2571cdd5412f => /dev/sda3
All my images and VMs are located under /dev/sda3 which used to be my root repository.
I have a few questions related to this.
Q1) Tried to make /dev/sda3 as the cluster root again. Noticed however this means it needs to be initialized again! What will be the impact of doing this with an existing storage repository? Will it remove my existing templates, images etc.?
Q2) As stated added an extra local disk and put a storage repository on it to be able to make use of this disk in my VM images. Is this a correct assumption?
Q3) Is OracleVM reading both storage repositories per default and does it make use of the storage on the new disk when the first disk is full? How does OracleVM handle multiple repositories?
Q4) What does the cluster root storage distinguish from the other storage? What is the advantage/disadvantage?
    Thanks,
    Klaas.

Q2) As stated added an extra local disk and put a storage repository on it to be able to make use of this disk in my VM images. Is this a correct assumption?Yes.
Q3) Is OracleVM reading both storage repositories per default and does it make use of the storage on the new disk when the first disk is full? How does OracleVM handle multiple repositories? It will create new VMs on the repository that has the most amount of free disk space. Thus it will use all the repositories at the same time.
Q4) What does the cluster root storage distinguish from the other storage? What is the advantage/disadvantage?The cluster root is the repository that is symlinked to /OVS -- it also stores the shared ovs-agent database. That's about it. There is no advantage/disadvantage in a single-server environment.

  • Tecra 750: Question about Infrared and TV remote control

    Hi there,
I am wondering if anyone can help. I have an old Tecra 750 which I am using as an audio system to play my MP3 collection. It has an Infrared detector on it and I was wondering if it is possible to use this to receive IR from a TV remote control so I can use a remote to navigate my audio files. Does anyone know how to do this or where I could find out how? Is there any freeware to help perhaps? Is it even possible?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The computer uses IRDA infra red and this is not compatible with the type of infra red used by normal remotes.
You could get an external infra red remote control which will plug into the USB port.

  • Question about Manager Self Service .

    Dear All,
I am on PeopleSoft 9.0 environ and trying to facilitate a reporting change transaction through the MSS. I have a few queries on the same :
1.) Is there any level of validation provided in PS 9.0 ( without customization) based on grades/level ( as in - a grade 2 employee can not be set as reporting to grade 4 where Grade 4 > Grade 2)?
2.) I assume if there is no such validation as above, then its the component security and row level security that determines if a manager will be able to initiate/approve the reporting change transaction. Is there anything else that I need to look into?
3.) I am able to clear some of the transactions successfully but for other I am getting either of the below two errors:
a.) Further processing required - Administrator needs to complete the processing of this transaction.
b.) You are not authorised to access this component (40,20).
I have checked the roles and permissions and they all seem to be fine. Please advice on what could be the possible reason for this? Thanks!

everything you type in the endpoint uri input will be the contextroot of your service, so /SomeService should indeed be enough or like Pierluigi mentioned /SomeService/blabla is also valid (blabla won't be a query parameter but just part of the contextroot)
if you would use a http rest-like service
/SomeService/blabla would still be the contextroot and after that you could use the query params
    /SomeService/babla?var1=test&var2=test or /SomeService/blabla/employee/id/1

  • Quick question:  redundant OMS databases for Grid Control

    Dear Friends,
I am wondering if it is possible to configure redundant OEM Management Server databases on separate servers and how would that be done?
I don't think it is possible to have an agent write to more than one OMS database, so how is it possible to have our OEM management server redundant?
Is running DG the only option?
    Thanks.
    Ji Li

    Damorgan:
I thought I remembered doing this at a previous site that I worked a few years ago, but I don't remember how I did it.
Will I need to configure dual listeners, or use separate ports for the dual agents?
Do you know where there might be instructions for how to set up and run dual agents on the same server?
    Thanks again.

  • Question about managing itunes match music in ios8

In ios7 I was able to keep track of how much music was being downloaded via itunes match as it streamed from my phone, and I could see how much space was being used as I listen to music.  I'm not seeing the same ability in ios8 - I assume all the music I "stream" that gets downloaded to my device but isn't showing up in music usage is going into "other" - but I don't see a way to determine how much space this is actually using on my phone other than guessing by how many gigs "other" uses when I connect to itunes.  But I don't see a way to see this directly on my phone.  Neither by looking at how much space is left on my phone (this doesn't seem to update by playing itunes match music), or my looking at the actual music files on my phone, which are only showing songs that I physically downloaded vs. playing from the cloud.
Also, can I delete all the music on my phone that is stored from playing on itunes match but I didn't actually hit the download button for?  In ios7 I was able to have the cached music automatically go away by turning itunes match off - I got mixed results when I did this yesterday and had to reformat my phone to clear out the "other" space - and I"m just guessing at this point that this is why my other got so large.
Any clarity around how this is handled in ios8 vs ios7 would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there.
I have the same problem, and its annoying. In iOS7 I was able to delete all the music that i played via streaming, and I play music like that 98% of yhe time. In iOS 8 i can only delete music that I have explicitly download but the streamed one seems to be hide.
The only solution to this, that is a waste of time is to turn of "show all music", see which music is already downloaded, downloads manually and the erase it.
Hope Apple release and update to fix this problems
