how do i get a smart playlist to automatically uptade my added songs everyday

Another option I have found very useful with iTunes and my iPod is to create a smart playlist of songs that haven't been played yet.
Simply create a new playlist and tell it to only play songs that haven't been played yet (play count = 0). Shuffle still works with this play list so when you use it you still get a random assortment of tunes, but also only the stuff you haven't heard yet (well hasn't yet been played since adding it to iTunes). Very useful for when you add new albums and songs to your iTunes and iPod as they automatically get added to this playlist.
Further more, once they get played, they no longer have a play count of zero and so no longer belong to this playlist, therefore, no repeats are possible. With the iPod/iTunes set to automatic update, when you sync you iPod to iTunes, anything you played on your iPod gets the count updated in iTunes.

Please help, simple question about Smart Playlists and Live Updating

PLEASE for some reason I've never gotten an answer on this.
I have a Smart Playlist called "Recently Played" with Live Updating. No matter how I set the parameters, the most recently played *song will ALWAYS appear on the bottom of the list when using my iPhone on the go.* I bolded that because I want you to be aware I'm not talking about on iTunes - I'm aware you can change how the list is viewed on iTunes.
When using your iPod/iPhone on the fly and Live Updating is enabled, is there any way to make the most recently played song appear at the very top???

Haven't seen that problem before but try the following: in iTunes, right-click the playlist name and enable the option "Copy to Play Order." Then sync.
The normal use of "Copy to Play Order" when you have the playlist displayed in iTunes in some sort order, but you want it to display in the iPod in shuffled order (as it will actually play). Different problem than you are observing, but the same thing "might" help.... Let us know.

Another question about smart playlists

I have been experimenting a lot with smart playlists lately and have 3 now that I have set up with help from this forum so far. However, I have a question I don't see an obvious answer to. That is, I have every song in at least one playlist, and some songs are in multiple playlists. I can add a playlist to a rule, but how can I tell ITunes to create a playlist containing songs that are in more than one playlist? For example, I want ITunes to create a playlist from songs that are in more than one of the following playlists, top 25 most played, purchased, and tagged. How can I set up ITunes to do this?

The checkmark on the right side when you're editing smart playlists adds more rules. Make as many rules as there are playlist that you're looking into and make each rule say "playlist _is_ (fill in the playlist from the dropdown." If you want songs that appear in ALL the selected playlists you select match ALL of the rules at the top. If you want songs that appear in any of the playlists you've selected you have to select match ANY rule at the top. If you have three playlists and you're looking for any songs that appear on any two of the playlists, but they don't necessarily have to appear on all three, then unfortunately there's no way to do that with one smart playlist. You'd have to make a smart playlist with one saying playlist top 25 most played+purchased (match ALL) another saying with playlist top 25 most played+tagged (match ALL), another saying playlists purchased+tagged(match ALL). Then you could make a 4th smart playlists saying to add the other three playlists and you'd end up with one playlist that has only songs that appear in ANY of the other three.
Note: there's an option that appears to make subrules as if you could do the above all in one playlist but unfortunately these don't actually work the way they appear they should in my experience.

Question about smart playlists

hello all:
i was wondering if someone can help me out with something. i really, REALLY need my iPhone to start behaving the way an mp3 player i had almost 5 years ago worked.
what i am looking to do is to have a playlist that has a bunch of my music, and after i play a song, i want that song removed from my playlist WITHOUT having to sync with iTunes and WITHOUT having to do it manually. i created a smart playlist that has "playcount = 0" as the only requirement, but after playing a song, the song is still in the playlist. i tried stopping the iPod app and after restarting the iPod app the song that i played is still in the playlist. i even tried rebooting my iPhone, but that still doesn't make the playlist update.
i have done a lot of testing to see if i can make this work, but i keep running into roadblocks. i even tried changing all of my music so iTunes would think it is a "podcast" so that i could get that blue dot which signifies an "unplayed" status, but it was messing up my play order and i did not see any way of making it work the way i wanted it to.
does anyone have any suggestions that may help me with my problem? any insights would be greatly appreciated!

something i have noticed is that for some reason, if i play the song from the playlist that has the 'Media Kind = Music' and 'Plays is not 0' as the playlist rules, then the song is not always marked as listened to. if i play the same song from a temp playlist, the song gets updated and disappears from my iPhone smart playlist. however, i have been using another playlist that i can easily clear and add the songs from the smart playlist, and bang, my problem is solved.
you have no idea how happy i am with this. it may not be the absolute very best solution, but i am happy with it. i no longer have to relisten to music just because my iPhone does something stupid.

Quick question about smart playlists.

Is it possible to edit a smart playlist used to show recently played songs to recognise multiple plays of the same song? To say it another way, if I listen to 'X' once it records it with the correct time etc, but if I play 'X' again it overwrites the first play with the second. Is there anyway to stop this?

Make a Smart Playlist and choose "Selected by: most often played" as one (or the only) option.
I have Smart Playlists that track
Top 10 most played
Top 20 most played
and so on.......
That is just one way way of doing it.

i created a new smart playlist and selected live updating. but i wonder if there's a way to make the smart playlist add songs ALREADY in my itunes library that match the conditions? or do i have to delete and re-add the songs all over again?

Questions about smart objects in CS3-CS5.

Hi.
Two questions.
When I replace content of smart object in CS2 the content takes the size of previous state of smart object in pixels.
It was very useful when need to replace some background to another and it autoresized to the new size and proportion.
For example, when I replace content of smart object with external size 100x90px and 100x90% proportion (can see with Ctrl-T) with file with 200x300px size, i have new smart object with old size 100x90px and new proportion 50x30%.
When I try to do the same in CS3-CS5 I get smart object with size 160x216px and proportion 100x90%.
Haw can I return the old behaviour?

In CS2 I use files with a lot of smart objects each of them may consists with some others smart objects and so on.
But i can`t use this scheme in CS3-CS5 because of very high consumption of scratch memory.
Very-very simple example. In CS2 create file 4000x3000px, create new layer and draw there black square 300x300px.
Convert the "square" layer to smart object. Then duplicate it with Ctlt-J 30 times. Save the file and reopen.
The scratch size is about 280 MB and practically not changing when moving layers with movetool.
Open this file in CS5. The scratch size is about 2.5 GB and quickly increase to 5 GB and above when i try to move layers. And this is a very simple file.
If i will try to open several such files in CS5 the amount of useing memory will be fantastic.
Why there is such behaviour whis memory in cs3-cs5 photoshops?

What version of Ps and AI are you using?
1. In Ps, there's no controls for the AI layer visibilty, but the visibility attributes should be respected.
2. The placed file is an embedded copy, not a link to an external file. However, there is a script that you might find useful for your purposes. I'm not sure if the Win support improved with CS5.

What is its class code, instruction codes, what can I do with this applet, how to select it in my source code? I would like you to help me with some java code. state means the state of an applet, you can refer to GP 2.1 or GP2.2 for details, here 7 means selectable, 1 means loaded but not installed, neither can it be selected.
priviliege means the privilieges given to the applet/security domains, applet and security domains have different privilieges, you can also refer to GP2.1 or GP2.2, here except for the first one is a security domain, others are applets

Questions about making playlists

I have 2000 songs in my library. some are christmas, some are show tunes, some are classical and most are pop/rock/etc.
about 1500 are in this last catagory and i want to make a play list w/them on it--because i do not want my random play to hit upon a 14 minute classical piece or a christmas tune when i am mellowing in pop etc.
many came from napster so are not attached to albums etc.
my question is--is the only way i can create the list for these 1500 songs by literally clicking on each on and either dragging them into a playlist, or by highlighting them individually and then doing the create playlist function.
since i want to create separate playlists for the holiday and classical anyway, is there some way to make those playlists and put them in a separate LIBRARY as well--in other words remove them from the current library and then automatically make a play list w/the remaining songs w/o having to highlight individual songs.
does this make any sense.

thanks. sounds like click and drag or highlight and do a new playlist are my only options for this volume of songs but that is fine.
also thanks for the answer to the library question. when I thought about it, decided that was too much work--probably just need to resolve to work thru the 2000 songs to organize, theen all will be right w/my (iPod) world.

Question about Using Playlists

You know how when you create a new playlist, iTunes shows you this large playlist editor to the right of the "Songs" view? When you're done it closes.
What I'm trying to figure out is to how to open an existing playlist over there. I only ever see that when creating a new one. I'd like to have it to the right of "songs" to edit a playlist.
Additionally, I've opened up new ones there by accident. Is there a way to cancel/abort a newly created one? I can only let it go, then go to the list and kill it. Be nice if I could cancel my keyboard mistake in creating one.

Question about smart albums - where does selection criteria operate

i maintain several versions of any given image. one for local printing, one for book printing and one for web; each with a different onscreen proofing profile. the versions for a given image are all in the same stack. put an appropriate key word (e.g. for book, for web, etc.) on each version in the hopes that i could create smart albums searching for the key words i wanted. it appears, however, that the search works only on the "pick" image in the stack. am i correct in this assumption?

Try this: click on the "Ignore Stack Groupings" checkbox in the Query HUD for the Smart Album you're working in.

Question about smart collections

I know how to create a smart collection by, first, sorting media by "type." But... how do I simply create a "new" smart collection, and then just "drag" what clips I want into said collection?
Yes... I was able to make a new smart collection, but I can't figure out how to simply drag-and-drop the clips I want into the smart collection. I sense it is something simple, but I can't grasp it as of yet.

You can't. A smart collection is, by definition, based on the criteria for the collection. Dragging a clip into that collection cannot give the clip the criteria for the collection. For instance, if you had a smart collection for audio clips, you could not drag a video file into in and miraculously make it an audio file.
What you want is keyword collections.

Question about Smart Actions

When creating a custom smart action, I want to send an automatic response text message to certain people but not all people.
For instance
- I can set a TRIGGER for "I miss some calls"
- Then I can choose who I receive calls from
- Next I can set the ACTION "Send a text message" and choose what I want the text message to say
Is there a way to download a trigger for "I miss some text messages"? That way I can put in the numbers of the people I receive the texts from and it will automatically respond with what I need it to say. If not, does anyone know of another method I could use to do this?

Hi, Thanks for the response,It's more the fact that my boss is a micromanager and has decided to contact me using my cell phone via text. i was hoping that if she sent me a text, i could set it up so it would automatically respond with a message like,"i'm right in the middle of something but will get back to you ASAP"because if i don't respond back with something, then i get a ton of emails and phone calls

How can I change the order of songs in a smart playlist?

Hi there,
I have a question about smart playlists.
I have a smart playlist where all songs rated 5 stars are ordered in descending order, meaning the latest additions first. That works well in iTunes and I can rearrange the songs there without a problem.
But when I start the iPod on my iPhone the order of songs in this playlist is always the same. In my case the latest songs are always put last no matter how I sort the songs in iTunes. I tried to delete and create a new smart playlist but the result is always the same.
Is there a solution?

Smart Playlists Question

Who knows a lot about Smart Playlists? I want to create a playlist that has all of my songs sorted first by "Play Count", then by song title. Does anyone know how to do this? I could write a MySQL query to do this in 2 minutes, but I don't know enough about iTunes to do it. Is it possible?

Smart playlist are for selecting specific songs, not sorting.
If you are sorting everything you don't need a playlist.
Select Library /Music and sort on *Play Count*.
Can't select a secondary sort column though (with either a playlist or the library).
