A question about USB 2.0 on the Macbook

Hi there,
I've been having problems on my Macbook and Powerbook with my Audio Kontrol 1 USB 2.0 audio interface cutting out randomly. I've tried new USB leads etc to no avail. Is the USB on the Macbook full powered 500ma port? I would have thought the USB sockets on the Macbook were fully USB 2.0 compliant?
Thanks for your help!

As Kappy states your MacBook is fully USB2.0 compliant.
I'm not real familiar with the Audio Kontrol 1 but make sure you have your firmware up to date. You might also check Native Instuments forums and see if you can find out any further info. that might be helpful if you haven't already.

    Hello ,
I want to ask some question about ipads \
    How powerful is the iPad?
How useful is it for reading books, newspaper or magazines or for surfing the web?
Can you identify any shortcomings of the device?
    please help me

it's less powerful than your average computer. THink of it like a netbook but with a better processor.
It'll do fine for surfing (although if you browse a lot of flash based sites you will need to get a third party browser since safari doesn't accommodate it)
You may do OK on reading books, papers or magazines, especially if they have apps, but the ipad's screen is backlit, so it doesn't work well outdoors and you may need to fiddle with the brightness so that you don't get eye strain (it's just like doing too much reading from a computer screen)
I would say the biggest short comings are data transfer. Apple's preferred work flow is that everything is done via iTunes or the internet....well people dont' always have 100% reliable always on internet access so you can find yourself in a situation where you can't get things on/off the iPad.
By and large, it's a good device for day to day stuff, but is not a computer replacement.

  • It does not cover my question about in what order does the sync work?

It does not cover my question about in what order does the sync work?
Does the first signed on computer copy its information to the cloud?
Does the second computer/pad/cell then download the information from the cloud overwriting the information on the second device even if some of the information is different?
What happens to the information on the second device that is not in the cloud?
If you delete a record (eg a bookmark) from the second device how does it then delete it on the first device?
What are the keys to the different types of information?

Hi I have answered you questions inline below:
Does the first signed on computer copy its information to the cloud?
Yes when you first set up the account or when you first add a device to the cloud, if it is not the first time, it will merge with the other data
Does the second computer/pad/cell then download the information from the cloud overwriting the information on the second device even if some of the information is different?
By default it merges. There is no option to change this.
What happens to the information on the second device that is not in the cloud?
It will sync at the next sync interval if that data is selected to sync.
If you delete a record (eg a bookmark) from the second device how does it then delete it on the first device? What are the keys to the different types of information?
It resolved the entry the next time the first and second device syncs. Can you elaborate on the second part of this question?

  • About to purchase but question about usb access to Sony DVD-RW camera

I am on the verge of purchase of a macbook and it would be my first mac at that. Specifically, I am looking for information on using the usb connection between my camera and the macbook. I am coming from the Windows world, and the camera software is windows only. I record my stuff in VR mode, and when I plug in via usb the windows software allows me to pull off the VRO files. Then I have another windows program that is able to read the VRO files and I can move them around (I don't edit the contents of the VROs), put transitions and then create a dvd. My question when moving to the macbook, can I still record in VR mode and then when done recording, without finalizing the disk, hook the usb cable to the macbook and it will be able to read those files? I read in other posts something similar but not definitive that it could not do this. There might be other software (ie, something call readDVD) that might be able to but could not determine, for sure, that it could do this over the usb (since I can't pull the 8CM disk and put it in the non-tray DVD drive). Or is there a better suggestion, please be kind that I don't know what is possible on the MAC.
For what is it worth, my scenario that I have put up with (because it gave me results that were adequate) on the windows side, had me record in VR mode and it gave me control over all the individual segments (hitting record and then stop is a segment) that I could manipulate individually with the windows software. I don't know enough about what is possible with the usb connection and the software on the MAC to know what to expect out of the box and if I have to buy additional software (to pull the movies off the video camera). If I recorded in Video mode, and then finalized and then hooked the usb cable to the macbook, would the resultant files be able to be read by iMovie? If so, would it be the individual segments or would it be one be movie (ie, all segments rolled up into a/many vob(s))? I want to be able to join many segments from many different disks onto one dvd. Maybe that is the crux of my question and may really be better suited for the iMovie forum rather than this one. If, so, please forgive my ignorance.

    Welcome to macbook forum,
Could you post your camera model / type, so we can check that out for you in order to give you better answers.
Or you can check this link for camcorder that supported on new iMovie 7.x.x.

  • Question about using multiple iPods on the same PC

I've read the FAQs on this subject but I still have a couple of questions about multiple users with separate iPods using the same PC.
I want to use my family's desktop (A new Gateway with Vista, if it matters) for my new iPod Classic, but my father already has an iTunes account on there for his iPod. I know I can create a new user account on the PC and move iTunes to a shared folder so that we can share music, but will this second account be able to purchase music from the iTunes store or am I going to have to switch between Windows User accounts to make purchases and then move new songs into my separate iTunes account via the shared folder? Will it be its own separate iTunes account (separate user name, separate credit card used, etc.) or will it just be a second library that's dependant on the first?
I want to be able to have my own iTunes account, make my own purchases in it, and maybe occasionally share tv shows or something with my father.
If this can't be done, would I be better off just creating new playlists for our two iPods from the same library, or creating a second library on my Father's account?
Also, if I want to access things I've purchased from iTunes on this desktop in iTunes on my notebook, will I be able to?
    I hope that made sense.
Sorry if these seem like silly questions. This will be my first iPod as I'm really excited about the 160gig and want to know if these things are possible.
Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi, Wes.
Congratulations on your new iPod Classic and Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
For no particular reason, let's answer your last question first ...
... if I want to access things I've purchased from iTunes on this desktop in iTunes on my notebook, will I be able to?
The iTunes Store operates on a one download per purchase policy so you will have to copy the purchases from one computer to the other and make sure that you authorize the laptop to play the songs.
As to your first question ...
... will this second account be able to purchase music from the iTunes store or am I going to have to switch between Windows User accounts to make purchases ...
Whatever XP User Account you are logged in to doesn't really matter. What's important is which Apple Account you sign in to ... yours or your Dad's or - if you had my Apple ID and password - The Mimico Kid's for that matter. You can sign in to any Apple Account on any XP User Account. Or any computer for that matter.
Where the XP User Account comes into play is that it will determine where on your computer the purchases are downloaded. Files will be sent to the iTunes Music folder as specified in the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > General sub-tab. Default settings will have a different location for each User Account - C:\Documents and Settings\ user name \My Documents\My Music\iTunes - but if you've read this article in the Apple Knowledge Base, you will know you can change the location of the iTunes Music folder in each XP Account to a common location such as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\iTunes.
Post back if all this hasn't been as clear as mud and you need anything clarified.

  • Question about using MAX to get the lastest date.

My question is I need to get the latest erstate.DATE_CREATED.
I thought that I could just do the following max(erstate.DATE_CREATED) but get
this error message (ora-00937: not a single-group group function). Can some explain to me what I am supposed to do. Thanks
    select     eractivity.er_case_id,
         erstate.description as latest_status,
         erstate.DATE_CREATED
    from      dpss_gdats.er_activity eractivity,
         dpss_gdats.er_state erstate
    where      eractivity.ER_STATE_ID = erstate.er_state_id
    and      eractivity.er_case_id = :p_case

Yes max(erstate.DATE_CREATED) will get you the latest erstate.DATE_CREATED. Looking at your query I'm not really sure if you want the latest date for every case_id, description or you want the latest date_created period.
    If you want the former:
    select eractivity.er_case_id, erstate.description as latest_status,
    max(erstate.DATE_CREATED)
    from dpss_gdats.er_activity eractivity,
    dpss_gdats.er_state erstate
    where eractivity.ER_STATE_ID = erstate.er_state_id
    and eractivity.er_case_id = :p_case
    group by eractivity.er_case_id, erstate.description
    for the latter :
    select max(erstate.DATE_CREATED)
    from dpss_gdats.er_activity eractivity,
    dpss_gdats.er_state erstate
    where eractivity.ER_STATE_ID = erstate.er_state_id
    and eractivity.er_case_id = :p_case

  • P35 Neo Questions about USB boot speed (New query)

i see it's an old topic but i have the same problem with slow USB Boot on a MSI P35 Neo2-FR mainboard.
i have tried something like 5 different USB drives and all are the same. the problem is when it's tring to boot from USB. there is some missing support for USB booting from BIOS , i don't know.
i had a BIOS from 2008 and i have updated to the latest version but nothing solved my problem.
i have tried to boot from USB with a linux live environment, windows live CD or i have tried to install windows from USB drive. all of them with very slow reading (instead of max 2-3 min loading time it takes almost 20-25min at least..).
when the system (windows) loads up the speed of reading the USB drives increse dramatically and all things gets back to normal.
with the same USB drive on several computers all the above works without any delay or very slow reading. so this i think it's the motherboard or the motherboard BIOS but i don't have a clue on how to fix this issue.
any help will be more than appreciated. thank you.

Do you use the case USB ports or the MB USB ports ? Have you tested the MB USB ports by disconnecting the case USB headers ?
Suggest you transfer a large file from the HDD to a USB device or from a USB device to the HDD and monitor the transfer speeds. Anything between 15 and 30mb/s is normal for USB2.

  • Question about RADIUS server configuration with a MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I own a modem router which is capable of WPA2 Enterprise and I want to use it with a RADIUS server for authentication and security purposes.
However, I have a few doubts about this.
    MY CONFIGURATION:
The modem router would be connected to a fixed PC with Windows and to a MacBook Pro (both with Ethernet)
The RADIUS server would be running on the MacBook Pro (freeRADIUS)
The bold is the issue, that comes when I disconnect the MBP (it's a notebook, so I use it disconnected from the router sometimes).
Supposing the router would have recognized it (correct configuration), it would disconnect from it.
    My questions:
Would Wi-Fi be lost in this manner? Or would the modem router automatically switch to another Wi-Fi authentication?
If I reconnected the MBP to the modem router and re-run the RADIUS server, would I need to access the control panel and re-configure the WPA2 Enterprise in order for Wi-Fi to work again?
    Thanks in advance,

"Full HD 3DD camcorder..." Marketing at it's best.
This is HDV, right? HDV has the same data rate as DV...13.6GB/hour. But because of the MPEG-2 Long GOP format the HDV format employs, it can be a bit tough to edit, but mainly when rendering effects. IT will be slower than DV, and you can't monitor thru the camera like you can with DV, but a simple FW400 drive and Intel Mac will be fine. Better if you can convert to ProRes upon ingest, but then that eats up a LOT more space and requires at least FW800...

  • Does anyone know the sound card specs (USB/Optical out) for the Macbook Pro 15 Retina?

I have looked everywhere and have just given up. The "technical specs" aren't very technical at all. Anyway, I have mine hooked up to a Cinema display, so the Thunderbolt and one USB are used on the left hand side. That leaves just one USB for 3 printers, one scanner, my Griffin PowerMate and my DAC. So I was wondering if using the Optical (Toslink Mini) out in the headphone jack might be a plan if I can find a DAc that deosn't need the USB for power AND if the optical out is 24/192.
I am just starting to set the laptop up as a replacement for my Mac Pro Desktop so wondering what to do here.
    Thanks!

I've just started to look into an issue I'm having with my DAC and my new iMac. There are some serious issues with using a DAC with USB3.0, so you may not even be able to use your DAC on your USB port. I'm getting a lot of popping noises when going through my USB 3.0 ports. I've had some success my hooking my DAC up to a UDSB hub (which is USB2). Problem there becomes power supply issue, whereas the problem with USB3 is data transfer.

  • 3 Macs - lots of questions about updating (G3, G5 and a MacBook)

I have a Power Mac G3 running OS 9.2. I messed with network settings a time ago trying to move files to a new machine and managed to remove its ability to connect to the Internet. I should just get rid of the thing, but I'd at least like to be able to donate it in functioning condition. Can someone help me get it connected to the Internet again? I don't even know where to begin anymore. (I get a "Domain name host for server has failed" message when my machine tries to connect AOL Instant Messenger on startup.)
Next up, my iMac Power PC G5. It currently runs OS X 10.4.11. Can I upgrade the OS and how far? Garage Sale (eBay software), Entourage and Word are the only non-Apple applications I use on it. I believe if I update the OS I need to update Office too, right? Currently I'm using Office 2004.
Last but not least is my MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo processor running OS X 10.4.11. It's my main machine, and Garage Sale and Office are key here. And I need to be able to share files between my iMac and the MacBook. I know I can't upgrade Garage Sale without upgrading my OS. Upgrades are always so "painful" for me because usually doing it means some else "breaks" along the way. I'm just not savvy enough (anymore!) to do this without help.
The two newer Macs can connect to my home shared server, along with my husband's PC. I'd love some help on which OS each machine can successfully be upgraded to without a great deal of angst.
    Thanks.

The beige G3 can be upgraded to 10.2.8 or left at the version of OS 9 you now have installed. Minimum RAM for Jaguar is 128 MBs. 3.0 GBs of space needed on the hard drive although practically you need at least 10-20 GBs of disk drive space.
Leopard requires a minimum of 512 MBs of installed RAM, so what you have is fine.
Snow Leopard requires 1 GB of RAM and Lion requires 2 GBs for your MB.

  • Question about usb in labview

I am currently doing a project about designing standalone data acquisition module with USB 2.0 interface.
For the hardware, a USB FIFO chip(FT245BM) is used to communicate with PC via USB with the driver DLL provided by the manufacturer (FTDI).
I want to use labview (version 7.0)to develop a data logging software and I learned that the functions in the DLL could be called by the 'library call function node' in labview.
    My question is:
1.Apart from labview, do I need to intall Measurement and Automation Exploere to configure the hardware before I use it in the labview?
    2. I noticed that the type of call in labview should be configured as either 'c' or 'stdcall'. My knowledge about C/C++ is poor, could someone explain them in
detail and which one shall I choose?
3.I heard that not all the DLLs could be used in labview (due to the problem of different format???). I don't quite understand about this. Could anyone be kind to explain about this as well?
    Many thanks!!!

I assume your chip comes with a Software Development Kit (SDK) with a
ready made driver. This driver consists of a kernel mode driver and the
user mode shared library (DLL). LabVIEWs call library node can be used
to call such user mode DLLs.
    > My question is:
    > 1.Apart from labview, do I need to intall Measurement and Automation
    > Exploere to configure the hardware before I use it in the labview?
Very unlikely, as the driver which comes with your SDK for the chip will
be not configurable at all in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
MAX really is only to configure National Instruments hardware devices
and to some lesser extend external measurement devices connected through
the GPIB, VXI and PXI bus.
The NI-VISA driver 3.0 which comes in LabVIEW 7.0 can also directly
communicate with the raw USB interface of some devices. If you want to
use that interface you would NOT install the driver for that device and
would configure that device in MAX instead. You do need to know the
manufacturer ID and Device ID of your USB chip for that. Also the
programming in LabVIEW through the VISA functions is possible but it is
not very simple and completely dependant on the implemenation of the USB
communication by that chip. There are some documents on Developer
Exchange and also some discussion topics here on this forum about VISA
    and USB communication.
    > 2. I noticed that the type of call in labview should be configured as
    > either 'c' or 'stdcall'. My knowledge about C/C++ is poor, could
    > someone explain them in detail and which one shall I choose?
Most Windows DLLs use stdcall but this is not a must. If you get it
wrong you will simply crash LabVIEW. The documentation or if that
doesn't work the header file which comes with the DLL should give you
this information, although for the header file you need to know a little
C to understand where it shows this.
    > 3.I heard that not all the DLLs could be used in labview (due to the
    > problem of different format???). I don't quite understand about this.
    > Could anyone be kind to explain about this as well?
Windows DLLs should be fairly standard. The only problem could be .Net
assemblies which are not really DLLs but a complete archive of DLL's
    documentations, certificates and, and, and!
It's still very unlikely that a device would come with a .Net assembly
instead of a simple DLL with the according API.

  • Question about Network In/Out in the Monitor of the Cloud Service

    Hi there
My question is that what kind of data is the monitor monitoring? The monitor is in the cloud service.
And what are network in/out  in the monitor stand for? The network in/out are in the monitor.
The monitor had monitored a huge amount of data in my cloud, but I have no ides what are they.
    Thanks a lot!

    hi Tianchi,
    Thanks for your posting!
    >>what kind of data is the monitor monitoring? The monitor is in the cloud service
From the concepts side, By default, minimal monitoring is provided for a new cloud service using performance counters gathered from the host operating system for the roles instances (virtual machines). The minimal metrics are limited to
CPU Percentage, Data In, Data Out, Disk Read Throughput, and Disk Write Throughput.
If you want to monitor other metrics, you could use the azure Diagnostic to custom
performance counter in your cloud service or set
Verbose setting on the azure portal. For this issue, I suggest you could refer to the concepts part of this page (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/cloud-services-how-to-monitor/
    >>And what are network in/out  in the monitor stand for? The network in/out are in the monitor.
Base on my understanding, Network in/out include the
performance counter "Bytes receive" and "Bytes send". Maybe it seems that your data size of network in/out is huge amount. But only your outbound data
can be charged. Of course, if you have some doubt about data or data billing, you could contact Azure Billing support for more details.

  • Question about USB mice using

Can anyone please let me know whether any precautions need to be taken when using a mice ; generally is there any need to exert caution while connecting and removing the mice from USB port.
As of now, the mice is being detected automatically and there is no icon for "safely remove hardware" .
    Thankyou very much
    Best Regards

    Hi Karthik,
When an external device is connected to your notebook it it will usually transmit and receive data in real time. Consider your USB Mouse, you click one of the buttons and this is transmitted to your notebook where it is acted upon by the operating system. In effect this occurs in real time and there is no buffering of data to worry about so the device could be unplugged at any time without the need to 'Safely Remove Hardware'.
Now consider a USB attached hard drive. In this case if data is being written to the hard drive (or read from it) then this does not occur in real time since the data is 'buffered' in transit in order to optimise the hard drive utilisation. A similar system is used when ripping/burning CDs and DVDs. In this case the 'Safely Remove Hardware' option is used to ensure that the last bits of data are cleared from the 'buffer' before the device is disconnected. If this were not done then some data loss would be experienced when the device was disconnected.
Since your mouse is not transferring data it is therefore not using any buffering.
    regards,

  • Question about how not to insert the same row twice

    hello everyone
    i have two tables
    table employee_list
    employee_id
    employee_name
    employee_num
    employee_date
    and table employee_form
    employee_id
    employee_name
    employee_num
    employee_date
table employee_form should contain the exact data like employee_list .
if there are missing data i'm inserting it to table employee_form_miss(missing).
now i have a probelm cause the compair between the two table, take place
more then just one time.now if there are still missing data i don't want that to table employee_form_miss will insert the same data that already exist in this table.
i've been thinking about constraints table employee_form_miss(employee_id
    employee_name
    employee_num
    employee_date).
but i think it will be a wird way to handle this because i will do an insert
and then what rollback? or delete?
please help me how to manage this
    thanks in advance.

    hello everyone
    i have two tables
    table employee_list
    employee_id
    employee_name
    employee_num
    employee_date
    and table employee_form
    employee_id
    employee_name
    employee_num
    employee_date
i'm using an embedded sql in cobol program
    DECLARE AA CURSOR FOR
    select a.employee_name ,a.employee_num,a.employee_date
    from employee_list a
    WHERE a.employee_date = :employee-date
    and NOT EXISTS
    (select null from employee_form
    WHERE employee_name =a.employee_name and
    employee_num = a.employee_num and
    employee_date = a.employee_date )
i'm doing open and fetch to the cursor.
and loop over the sqlerrd(3) result in order to insert them to the employee_form_miss table
    insert into employee_form_miss (employee_name,employee_num,employee_date)
    values (:employee-name,:employee-num,:employee-date)
the employee_id in table employee_form_miss there is a trigger which
Increment the sequence by 1 for each row that we insert.
so my question was that if i'm doing a constraint, so still i have to do
an insert and then if there is a constraint to do rollback or delete
from duplicate row. is there a better way to manage this ?
