A Question About Volume

I've been staying up late for a few weeks finishing up 8 songs that I've composed that I'm going to burn to CD's for Christmas gifts for the family (they'll be my captive audience...now, they'll HAVE to listen to my songs).
Presently, they sound fantastic. I've been listening to them through iTunes and they are ready. But, I'm wondering about the volume. I had set the master volume in GB at 0.0db and with Bose headphones and iTunes up as high as it goes, the songs really sound wonderful. There is no earsplitting nausea happening with the higher notes and the low sounds are deep without causing my inner organs to collapse. I'm loving it.
However, I'm clueless as to how to make sure the volume setting is correct for a CD. This sounds good to me, but is there a rule of thumb to follow for songs intended for a CD?
I've read about clipping Right now, there is no clipping at all. But, should I set the volume higher than 0.0db or leave it there?

So, in a nutshell, what you're telling me is that I'm taking TippyToes on the path to being a sound geek? That'll work for me.
I'm making a sound flow chart index card to stick on my desk. I truly do appreciate all of your patient advice. That little index card with be the first of my sound study. It's very confusing though. The necessary combination of Art with Science. I didn't know it would get that difficult. But, I definitely see how imperative it is to understand. I admire all those who do. It's an interesting science. Without it, the Art has to be hand carried to everywhere it is to go. With it, it can travel to the far reaches of outer space in a rocket ships CD player slot. Art can be destroyed by a bad application of the Science, and most importantly enhanced with a well thought out consideration of it. My geek thing is kicking in. It feels weird though. It's something entirely alien for me to look at scientically.
Ummagumma? I would not worthy to scrape the gum from under the seats after a concert.
While on the subject of sound, what do you think of my thunder roll before the timpani hits in "The Window"? You're "messing with it" advice inspired me to mess with the timpani to get a thunder without having to spend a night auditioning thunder .wav files. The timpani "thunder" is just what I wanted, but now I'm worrying if it's too loud via meters and such. It's loud, but I was able to turn the sound up as high as it goes in iTunes/my computer without it being so loud as to being damaging and I tested it on myself through headphones...which was dumb, because I don't think it's so wise for me to work ambiant/electronica/avant garde kind of music through headphones AND be a finger klutch with the keyboards. Ever try deleting/trashing a song in iTunes with the headphones on and the volume as high as it goes? It's not fun. If you don't know, don't try. Just believe. So, because I've made too many mistakes...like an AU I tried that was OMG...so bad, that I know that I had God and many sound Angels holding my eardrums in place to keep them from instantly bursting because it should have. That it didn't, gives me another chance to hear birds sing. But, to hear those little nuances of a note when a filter's been applied can be so subtle that it's difficult to distinguish a hum or a buzz on the track from the hum of the refrigerator, high tension wires or cicadas. So the headphones help isolate the sound to hear it purely as it is. Which, with Electronica/Ambiant music I am making myself, with all it's home made sounds and such and software instruments, which aside from my piano, is all I ever use can be risky on the hearing. Some of those AU's, when auditioning them on the fly with headphones and not knowing what to expect...like clicking on a preset and OMG! It's dangerously loud! I think, that what I need to do is audition ALL my presets one of these days...without the headphones...and delete any presets that is one click away from permanent deafness. I owe it to myself to be kind. I really love the freedom and creativity that Electronica/Ambiant music allows me...as a raw green amatuer...but I need to create an oasis of safety for myself. I never realized just how powerful these AU's are until having played around with some of them.
I've let my thoughts run away from me...too far. I still have a lot of other Christmas gifts to work on.
I'll shut up now.

  • Question about VOLUME LEVELS for BURNING...

when i download music from the itunes store, the volume levels sound fine when i play them from itunes or the ipod. but when i burn the albums to CD, the volume is significantly LOWER than other audio CD's. the same is true when i burn them in mp3 format. does anyone know how to adjust the sound levels (turn them up) when i burn the albums, or is this a common problem with music downloaded through itunes? i don't encounter this when i copy directly from an audio CD and burn to another. someone HAS to know something about this. it's really frustrating. help me out, friends.
    Dell E1505   Windows XP

With all due respect, I have burned alot of CDs with soundcheck checked and the recipients of my 'mixes' all complained. I noticed it as well. Perhaps there is another place where user checks soundcheck...?
I know soundcheck can make playing disparate tracks in itunes level, but that does me no good for burning.
    Thanks for the reply.
PS: here are reviews I read re: ivolume. I have no idea whether or not they reflect the views of others, but they do exist (source: http://www.macupdate.com/reviews.php?id=12687&pid=142223). I hesitated considering ivolume because some of the problems seem to be linked with itunes 7, which I use.

  • Question about volume level automation (GB newbie here)

I know how volume level automation works for the master track, i.e. in and out and such, but can you do this with a single track? basically one of the tracks in a song I've recorded has a bit of hiss at the end of it, which I would like to fade out. I've tried to cut that bit out completely, but it ruins the feel of that particular track, so I was wondering if there was a way to make that track fade out.

on the right end of the row of buttons just under the track name, there is a triangle. click it and the automation of the track will become visible. you can automate volume and pan using points on the line that runs throgh the timeline.
before you start playing with complex curves, make sure you've got the level of the loudest part set to where you want it using the slider - otherwise, you'll have to adjust each point on the automation curve to adjust overall volume... that's troublesome (if someone has a work around/key command i'd love to hear it!).

  • Follow-up on question about copying 10.4

I only got one reply to my question about how to copy OS 10.4 from one internal drive to another and unfortunately, the response was cut short. Something about if I had another computer with Firewire, using it and that's as far as the response went. Yes, I have a  laptop and have Firewire, but still don't know how to use it to help.

If you just wish to make a duplicate of one hard drive to another hard drive in the same G5, then do this:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the second internal drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • Some questions about the integration between BIEE and EBS

    Hi, dear,
I'm a new bie of BIEE. In these days, have a look about BIEE architecture and the BIEE components. In the next project, there are some work about BIEE development based on EBS application. I have some questions about the integration :
    1) generally, is the BIEE database and application server decentralized with EBS database and application? Both BIEE 10g and 11g version can be integrated with EBS R12?
    2) In BIEE administrator tool, the first step is to create physical tables. if the source appliation is EBS, is it still needed to create the physical tables?
    3) if the physical tables creation is needed, how to complete the data transfer from the EBS source tables to BIEE physical tables? which ETL tool is prefer for most developers? warehouse builder or Oracle Data Integration?
    4) During data transfer phase, if there are many many large volume data needs to transfer, how to keep the completeness? for example, it needs to transfer 1 million rows from source database to BIEE physical tables, when 50%is completed, the users try to open the BIEE report, can they see the new 50% data on the reports? is there some transaction control in ETL phase?
could anyone give some guide for me? I'm very appreciated if you can also give any other information.
    Thanks in advance.

    1) generally, is the BIEE database and application server decentralized with EBS database and application? Both BIEE 10g and 11g version can be integrated with EBS R12?You, shud consider OBI Application here which uses OBIEE as a reporting tool with different pre-built modules. Both 10g & 11g comes with different versions of BI apps which supports sources like Siebel CRM, EBS, Peoplesoft, JD Edwards etc..
    2) In BIEE administrator tool, the first step is to create physical tables. if the source appliation is EBS, is it still needed to create the physical tables? Its independent of any soure. This is OBIEE modeling to create RPD with all the layers. If you build it from scratch then you will require to create all the layers else if BI Apps is used then you will get pre-built RPD along with other pre-built components.
    3) if the physical tables creation is needed, how to complete the data transfer from the EBS source tables to BIEE physical tables? which ETL tool is prefer for most developers? warehouse builder or Oracle Data Integration?BI apps comes with pre-built ETL mapping to use with the tools majorly with Informatica. Only BI Apps 7.9.5.2 comes with ODI but oracle has plans to have only ODI for any further releases.
    4) During data transfer phase, if there are many many large volume data needs to transfer, how to keep the completeness? for example, it needs to transfer 1 million rows from source database to BIEE physical tables, when 50%is completed, the users try to open the BIEE report, can they see the new 50% data on the reports? is there some transaction control in ETL phase?User will still see old data because its good to turn on Cache and purge it after every load.

  • Questions about Audigy 2 ZS connecti

    Hello,
New to these forums, so bear with me. I'm considering purchasing an Audigy 2 ZS gamer card, and have some questions about the card and speaker setup. I've read the FAQ's in the forum, and they have been a big help, but I still have questions related specifically to my setup. Here's the system specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    Asus K8V SE Deluxe
    VisionTek Radeon X800 XT PE
    Seagate 250 gig SATA HDD
    gig Crucial ram
    Antec P80 case
    Antec TruePower 430 ps
Altec Lansing ADA885 digital speakers (awesome sound)
Altec Lansing headset (cheap but works for voice and gaming)
    ADI AD980 onboard sound
    Windows XP Home
. I currently am able to run both the speakers and headset at the same time by using the front panel audio outlets on the case (helps with the immersion in IL2 946). I would like to continue doing this(using front panel audio) with the new card. I've found several places that have an adapter cable for sale, http://www.x-tap.com/

The plug that I have has only 3 separators, not 4. Will this work with the Audigy 2? I don't have a link for this plug, unfortunately.
    4. I had been considering purchasing? a set of USB headphones, but I've been told that when you plug them in, the sound is cut off for the speakers. If there was a workaround for this, I might consider getting them. Then I wouldn't have to use the front panel audio or the connections on the card.
    5. I've heard of an issue with this particular set of speakers and the Audigy 2 card, particularly that the speakers were originally designed for a Dell system, and the wiring was phased differently than in other systems. Is this something to be concerned with, and if so, is there a workaround?
I like to research a particular product before I buy it, in order to make an informed decision and avoid problems if possible. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't
Thanks in advance for the help.

The inputs are easy to find and select:?
Right-click the Mixer icon on the taskbar and select "Playback Devices".<
There should open a new Window with the options of "Speakers" and "SPDIF"<
With Speakers highlighted click the?"Properties" button on the lower?right corner<
Go to the 4th tab (I believe it is "volume" in english, "Pegel" in german)<
    There you have your inputs!<
Unmute Line-In and set its volume according to your desires.<
Also remember that software designed for XP, that should control the Line-IN settings, (ie. Hauppauge WinTV or Dscaler) will be unable to do so in Vista, do to the architecture change. You can however enable "Compatibility Mode for Windows XP SP2" for these applications (right-click on their executable) and restore control of the inputs directly from the program. (You should however unmute it first as explained above). PS:? All Creative Software that came on the CD is incompatible to Vista. Only the included Audio Console should work as expected.Message Edited by alexs3d2 on 05-07-200707:3 PM

  • Simple question about mount and delay script

Hello, I have a simple question about mounting volumes on start up.
My computer wakes up auto - and then auto there are serveral applescript tasks (mount and start up programs)
I use this script (daily) for serveral connections with external volumes I always need the connect to. ( In the script I use this code 3 times for other locations) I do this on start up.
    set Uname to "XXX"
    set Pword to "XXX"
    set someVolume to "afp://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/XXX/XXX
mount volume someVolume as user name Uname with password Pword
(same code for 2 other locations)
When i do this on start up sometimes the script says there is no connection possible. I guess it's because on start up the connection isn't there. And 1 minute later when computer is total ready the connection is ok. When I run the script then It works. Just sometimes ( In the morning) 'It' want to connect but the script stops. When i do it manually(I run the script again) it works just fine.
Is it possible that I need a delay? Can someone explain this?
How would I make a delay handler for this script? Is that the best solution?
Thanks in advance. This is something small i'm wondering about.
    Colin

BTW, If you saved the script as an application +(and not as an application bundle)+ you could drop the script on to *Drop Script Backgrounder* (freeware).
Then the script would run in the background, so, you wouldn't see it running in the Finder.

  • Question about the "iPod radio remote"

I assume the "radio remote" is the same for every country and is under software control. I want to buy in Canada but use in UK and Canada.
Has anyone got one and seen the RDS work, in the UK almost every FM channel is RDS. Do they have RDS in Canada (Toronto) can anyone confirm?
And of course it says FM so this again I assume no AM, not that I need AM it was just an interest in if it could do it.
What happens about headphones, you can plug a pair into the remote, can you still plug into the bottom of the iPod or does the remote connector get in the way.
What is the story with "line out" I use this all the time as I amp my headphones. So I assume you cant use line out? or is the remote a line out also.
And I assume the remote cable and you headphones act as the aerial, how is the quality? Is it any good indoors, some little FM radios I have used drop to mono indoors. Does this Apple one frop to mono if the signal is weak?
Someone that has one can perhaps answer
    Cheers
    Ray

I can at least answer some of the questions.
The RDS function on this radio/remote is poor in the
UK. You have to set the radio function on the iPod
to "Europe" and when you do this RDS info is not
displayed on almost all radio stations such as
Virgin, XFM, Capital, GLR, etc. It does display on
Radio 2 however. At least, this is my finding. So
it's unpredictable at best. Setting the radio to
"USA" on the iPod increases the likelihood of getting
the RDS to display, but the downside is that you can
then only tune the radio in increments of 2mhz which
is a bit awkward if your looking for 89.1mhz!
There are three settings for the radio which you
choose via the iPod. They are USA/Europe/Japan. No
setting for Canada, although I'm sure you will still
be able to use it over there as I can still use mine
here in the UK even if it's set to USA.
No, there is no AM radio.
You can plug headphones into the remote or the
headphone jack on the iPod, or both at the same time.
I'm not sure I understand your question about the
bottom of the iPod. The radio plugs into the iPod
    via the dock connector.
There is no 'line out' on the iPod. If you mean the
one on the dock, then no you can't use it as you
cannot place the iPod into the dock whilst the
radio/remote is connected as they use the same
    connector.
Yes the cable of the remote acts as the aerial.
Reception is surprisingly good where I am, but it
will of course depend on where you use it. I've
used it indoors without any drop in signal or it
    dropping to mono.
Lastly, you need to update the software for both the
nano or the 5th generation for the radio to work
(after you do this a radio function appears in the
menu), and some users have found that doing this
screws up the iPod. I have mine working on both the
nano and the 5th gen without any problems.
There is a review of the radio/remote here. I like
mine and consider it a worthwhile accessory, but of
course there will be those who disagree.
    iPod
    Radio/Remote Review.
    Thank you for the reply.
Think your right USA or Europe will work in Canada.
Yes I mean the line out via the dock, I just wondered if the remote become a line out socket (I also use a pocket dock for line out for headphone amp as I use a pair of Sennheiser HD600 with my ipod) but of course that is silly becasue you have a volume control on the remote and line out is normaly fixed.
Based on your views I shall get one in March when in Toronto
    Cheers

  • Short question about the nano controls

Hi. I'm probably going to buy a 4Gb nano today, but first I'd like to ask a short question about the << >> buttons on the click wheel.
I read in a forum that the << & >> buttons are actually 'skip' buttons (only used to play the previous or next song respectively), and that it's impossible to rewind or fast-forward within the track you're listening to. This is extremely important for me as I have several 2-3 hours mp3, and I need to be able to access different parts of the file quickly (eg. not having to actually wait 1 hour to listen to my favorite part). I found this to be an important feature, and I can't believe Apple hasn't thought about it.
Anyway, I've never used an iPod, that's why this question may sound plain stupid.
    Thanks for you replies!

The iPod fast charges to about 80% and then trickle charges the rest of the way to prevent damaging the battery/iPod. A full charge takes more than an hour or two though the battery indicator will show full. The best way to tell if a full charge has occurred is to unmount the iPod from the computer but keep it connected. The screen will show an animation of a battery. When the animation stops the battery is fully charged.
Also, as your battery discharges the indicator will eventually show red indicating the battery is about to run out...in an hour or two. After you've owned your iPod for a couple months you'll figure out how much time you have left when the indicator turns red - it depends on a number of factors including play volume, equalizer use, etc. In real world use I'm getting over 11 hours.
The headphones are...average. If they didn't hurt my ears I'd find them acceptable for my pop music but not so acceptable for acoustic and symphonic nor music with booming bass - because they don't boom the bass.
I encode the majority of my music at 256 AAC and I've noticed no distortion caused by the EQ. This, plus your complaint about the earphones, leads me to think perhaps you got a bum set of phones. Borrow a pair from someone else and see what happens.

  • Miscellanous questions about BDB XML

    Hi !
I'm in search for a storage solution for a Matlab app that manipulates big volumes of datas (several Gb), and so can't load them fully in memory without crashing. Thanks for those who will take a bit of their precious time to answer my questions !

    Hello,
I'm in search for a storage solution for a Matlab app that manipulates big volumes of datas (several Gb), and so can't load them fully in memory without crashing. I also can't load / unload them each time I need a bit of these data, since it is rather long to load a file in memory (about 0.12s). So I was thinking about using a DMB like BDB XML, and I have a few questions about it :
<ul><li>What about performances to create a 3-5Gb database in a single batch ?</li>It will take a while. If you bulk load you should avoid using transactions and sync/exit the environment when you are done. Note that you should determine what indexes you might want/need before doing the load and create them. Reindexing 5GB of data will take another really large chunk of time. I recommend experimentation with indexes, queries and a small representative subset of the data.
Be sure to create a node storage container with nodes indexed.
Is this one document or many? Many is better. One 5Gb document is less than ideal but will work.
<li>What about performances to excecute a XQuery request on a db this large ? Longer or shorter than loadin directly the file in memory ? With an index or without ?You really need indexes. The query will likely succeed without indexes but depending on the query and the data could take a very long time. See above on experimentation first.
    </li>
<li> No matlab integration is provided, so I have to way : use Matlab C integration to make an interface to use BDB XML, or using the shell via an exec like command to interact with BDB ? Is the shell trick performant ? Or does it spend a lot of time parsing the input ?</li>There is no C interface, just C++. I would not recommend using the dbxml shell for this although you could if you really need to.
Let the group know how this turns out.

  • Some basic questions about rmi registry  context  "bind" and "lookup"

We have more processing to do than can be accomplished with a single computer. To solve the problem I've implemented a distributed computing solution using RMI. (The first time I saw RMI was about 2 weeks ago, so please bear with me!)
The implementation is a proof of concept not a fully fleshed out system. I have one "Workunit Distributor" computer and any number of "Data Processor" computers all on the same lan segment. "Workunit Distributor" and "Data Processor" computers are both RMI client and server to each other. The "Data Processor" computers are given the ip address and name of the "Data Distributor" on the commandline when they start. They communicate their willingness to receive and process a workunit to the ""Workunit Distributor" via a RMI call. Work units are sent to available "DataProcessors" and results are eventually returned to the "WorkunitDistributor" (minutes or hours later). The model program works quite well, and appears to be capable of doing the processing we need to get done.
But now that it seems viable, I've been asked to make it a little more scalable, flexible and self configuring. In particular, instead of one "Workunit Distributor", any number of "Workunit Distributors" should be allowed to show up or disappear from the lan at any time and the system should continue to function. I've worked out a good scheme for how this can be done, but I have a couple of questions about the RMI registry (registries?). I'm trying to keep from implementing some functionality that may already be available as a library or subsystem.
With my current model design, each computer binds to its own registry with a unique name. For instance:
    CRDataProcessorImpl crdpi = new CRDataProcessorImpl(svr);
    Context crDataProcessingContext = new InitialContext();
    crDataProcessingContext.bind("rmi:"+hostName, crdpi);
Currently the "Data Processors" get the info they need for a Context lookup() of the one and only "Workunit Distributor" from the commandline. And the info the "Workunit Distributor" needs to do a Context lookup() of a "DataProcessor" is passed to it from each "DataProcessor" via a RMI call.
But in the newer (yet to be implemented) scheme where any and all "Workunit Distributors" show up and disappear whenever they feel like, the naming bootstrapping scheme described above won't work.
I can imagine a few ways of solving this problem. For instance, having "Workunit Distributors" multicast their contact information on the lan and have a worker thread on each "Data Processor" keep track of the naming information that was multicast. Another alternative (more organized, but more complex) might be to have a dedicated host with a "well known" address and port that "Workunit Distributors" and "Data Processors" could all go to, to register or look up at an application level. Sort of a "domain name service" for RMI. But both these schemes look like a lot of work to implement , debug and maintain.
The BEST thing would be if there was one plain vanilla RMI registry that was usable by all RMI enabled computers instead of having each computer have its own local name registry. In volume 2 of the Core Java2 book it says that every registry must be local. I'm only hoping there's been progress since the book was published and now a central rmi registry is available.
If you have any ideas about this I'd like to hear what you know.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Lenny Wintfeld
ps - I don't believe web services, as full featured as it is, is a useful alternative. I'm moving 100's (in the future possibly 1000's) of megabytes back an forth for processing.

The local bind/rebind/unbind restriction is still there and it will always be there.
    I would look at
    (a) RMI/IIOP, where you use COSNaming as a registry, which doesn't have that registriction, and which also has location-independent object identifiers

i have a really quick question about LVM, been trying to search but can't really find the answer
    here's the scenario
i have my new quad core phenom system running arch, with an LVM volume on a few 1TB drives. i was overclocking it the other night and running geekbench, pulled 8300 flat anyway, not too bad since i started at 4900 on the arch kernel, and then hit 6800 with a custom zen patched kernel. anyhow, before i get carried away, what i want to do, is slap a spare drive and install windows 7 for a wider suite of benchmarks. but i'm worried that the drives with the lvm volume may not go in the same order when i pull the windows drive out.
so what i want to know, is does the order of the drives with the lvm volume matter, or does LVM not care about the order at all?

i was pretty sure thats how it worked....but pretty sure just isn't enough sometimes. like when you're looking at 3TB's of data

  • Questions about TDM mode on an iMac

    Hi!
I'm thinking about buying 2009-2010 27" iMac, it should replace my home server, display and audio system.
Primarily, I will use it in TDM mode, and have some questions about it.
Firstly, what about sound? iMac receives it over Mini DP, right? And if I'll connect HDMI device to iMac (PS3, looking forward to Xbox One, and MacBook Air over hdmi adapter), sound will be played over desktop's speakers, as it should?
Second, and most interesting part: if connection scheme is MacBook Air->Mini DP to HDMI adapter->HDMI cable->HDMI splitter->HDMI to Mini DP cable->iMac in TDM, everything will work fine?
Also interested about cables. For example, this cable http://dx.com/p/cy-dp-021-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-audio-extender-cable-white-1- 8m-177527 supports up to 1920x1200, but basically, both DP 1.2 and HDMI 1.3b supports 2560x1600. Should I look for another cable or this one will support 2560x1440 resolution?)

Beta software is always a risk. Some beta releases are close to finished status and quite polished and bug-free, while others have significant and often crippling bugs. Not that software in official release may not also have problems, but the entire point of beta releases is to identify bugs prior to an official release, so bugs are much more likely. Sometimes you won't encounter any problems, but other beta software may take your machine down completely; it all depends on what the software is intended to do, how skilled the programmers are, and where in the beta cycle the software may be. A "public preview" release from a major developer such as Microsoft, Apple, or Mozilla is less likely to have major problems, but it's no guarantee.
It's always wise to be very cautious about using any beta software, and to take extra precautions, particularly making backups much more often and preferably not using your main computer, when running any beta software. I would recommend never, repeat never, running beta software on any computer on which you depend on a daily basis for work or critical schoolwork. If you must, make a clone of your entire hard drive to another volume before installing any beta, so you can recover your system in case of major problems.

  • Question about using 10g/11g and APEX ...

    Hi,
I just recently learned of Oracle's APEX and have a few questions about using it.
Can I use APEX with express, standard, and enterprise editions of 10g and 11g?
Are all of these free to use?

You might want to read about APEX rather than jumping into questions that are reasonably well documented. Info at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
    Your specific questions:
    1) Apex is a package that can be installed into any properly licensed database.
    2) The price for the production license of the database varies by edition.
The price for Express Edition is $0 for use in production. Part of the cost for that edition is 'no Oracle Support based support, no patches, data volume limitation, etc.'

  • Some question about georaster?

    Hello,
I have some question about how to create high efficiency georaster model. I have 3T capacity raster data. It's bands is from 8 bands to 12 bands and the resolution is 0.5 meter. In order to ensure the original information of raster data, I consider not use the SDO_GEOR.mosaic, this means that a import file is a georaster object. I keep the original data capacity, not compression. I use JPEG-B to compress pyramid data.
Does anyone can tell me my georaster model is OK? or tell me some areas for improvement.
Thanks who have lool my page.

i don't have specific performance number on georaster using bigfile tablespaces. "A bigfile tablespace with 32K blocks can contain a 128 terabyte datafile" and should be doable with georaster in considering your data size is just 8 TB. It should have some advantages over small file tablespaces, for example, it would be easiler to manage because it has only one datafile. but note, "Bigfile tablespaces are intended to be used with Automatic Storage Management (ASM) or other logical volume managers that supports striping or RAID, and dynamically extensible logical volumes". "Using bigfile tablespaces on platforms that do not support large file sizes is not recommended and can limit tablespace capacity." please refer to the Oracle Database Administrator's Guide.
    thanks
