A question I still seek an answer to.

I know this has been asked many times and believe me, I have read through many forums, but I still can't figure out what I'm trying to do...
I have been trying to move my video files/clips to my external hard drive for a while now. I have a 3TB external hard drive that I bought but haven't managed to use it.
Basically I just want to move all my video files from my computer onto my external hard drive, so I can then go and delete the files off my computer to free up space. I figured out how to save new projects and events to my external hard drive, but I am wondering how to move stuff that has is already on my computer, also without messing up my files.
If there is a tutorial video someone can recommend that would be great or just to explain. Thanks .

Craig,
It will move – not copy – whatever is in your event. (It is also possible to duplicate an event, but we won't go there.)
If your media is also living outside your event on your boot drive, then you'll have to move that separately in the Finder.
As an example, I sometimes ingest media files without using FCPX. I might copy the card and store it somewhere on my network and want to use it at a later date. Let's assume I stored it in my boot drive (even though that's unlikely). Days later, suppose I want to do a project that references an external drive. I create a new event on the external and import some of that media into  my event. If I don't copy the media to the event, then FCP will simply point to it on the boot drive. If chose copy files to event, then they would be in both places.
Hope that's clear.
Karsten's suggestion is a good one. The user manual is a great resource.
