A question on a future purchase

Ok, right now i do not own a laptop, but i am thinking of buying the GP70 Leopard as a replacement for my old one that died several years ago (i've been stuck using a shared computer for a while now).
So far, everything i've seen about it seems to be right for me, the mix of performance and price together is just about perfect (i'm probably going to buy it from ibuypower.com unless there is a better online retailer that anyone could suggest).
All of this boils down to a question.  Is there any difference between the GP70 Leopard, and the GP70 Leopard Pro?
I've looked and looked at their website, and i can't see any difference.  I can't even find the Leopard Pro on MSi's own website to begin with.  At the moment, the only thing i can see is that the pro is more expensive, and if it is with no reason, i'd buy the base Leopard instead.  Currently, with the same options chosen, the Pro version is just 16 dollars more, so it isn't as if it would break the bank to choose that one over the base.
I just want to know if there is any difference in function or options.

I was also wondering what's the difference between these GP70. Graphic card is really important for playing games. The price and performance for GP70 is great as well. Thank you for the information.

  • Basic Question related to future purchase of iMac

Sorry for the stupid question but I just want to know if GarageBand is included as part of the software bundle included with purchasing a new iMac (Intel Duo Core). I was looking at a demo unit in the store and the iMac appeared to have it installed but the Apple.com store doesn't list it (unless I missed it).
Edit: Stupid me, should have posted this under the iMac forum. Perhaps one of the moderators can my this post there.

you should make sure you get a free upgrade later.
To date there have been no free upgrades. If you buy a Mac After the new version of iLife has been released and it doesn't come with the latest version, you have been able to get it for $20.
That's the way things have worked, there's no telling what will happen in the future, of course.

  • A few questions regarding a future purchase

Hello everyone, Glad to be a part of this community.
Now my question to you all is will the 13 inch MBA with 4GB Be enough for me.
I currently own a Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop which only has 2GB or ram. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium but is now running Windows 8.1 Pro. (Huge regrets on updating it)
I use my laptop for Uni work, E.G all the Microsoft Office programs, Itunes, Spotify, And heavy web browsing daily. Which inlucdes lots of tabs being opened.
My laptop now chugs away when I run Itunes and Youtube at the same time. (Have owned it for three years)
So will the 4GB get the job done and last me 3-4 years?
Thank you all for your time.
    Jake

    First to memory.
MacBook Air has RAM soldered to the logic board, so buying up in RAM (which is usually only another $100) is a good choice in case you need it later.
    Second to running Windows.
You can load Windows on a MBA using either BootCamp or VirtualMachine software like Parallels or VirtualBox or VMWare Fusion.  But you would need to buy a new Windows copy because the installation you have on your system does not have all drivers like a full-install has.
Third to regretting switching to Mac
I chose a MAc laptop instead of Windows becasue while some programs that may be needed in are Windows-based Mac OSX is under the hood more stable (like Linux systems I had used prior to buying the Macbooc Pro).
Cheapest solution would be adding RAM and reinstalling Windows.  But Mac would still let you keep Windows programs.
If you are a "starving student", then you should weigh your finances well in this decisions.
    Just read your latest post.

I am not a knowledgeable user - have what may be a stupid question!  I just purchased a TV show series on iTunes and downloaded all episodes for the season.  But I believe i want them on my iCloud instead of my laptop.  How do I transfer them to the Cloud or duplicate on the iCloud?

You can't transfer any purchase to the cloud yourself, whether a TV programme/series will show in the cloud for redownloading in the future depends upon what country that you are in (TV programmes can't be redownloaded in all countries), whether you move countries (you can't redownload purchases made in another country) and if the rights-holder keeps them in the store (they occasionally remove their items).
As you bought it on your laptop then you could turn Settings > iTunes & App Store > Videos (under 'show all') 'on' on your iPad and it might show in the Videos app on it with a cloud icon against it for streaming/redownloading (it might also show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes Store app for refownloading whether or not you turn that 'on') - but that depends upon your country and only whilst it remains in your country's store. Similarly if you delete it from your laptop and tick the 'show iTunes in the cloud purchases' tick box on the Store tab in Edit > Preferences it might show in the TV Shows part of your library for redownloading (and whether or not you tick that it might show in the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading).
But you should be taking a backup copy of it, and anything else that you download from the stores, there is no guarantee that you will be able to redownload any item.

I am being prompted to enter security questions when making a purchase on my new IPad.  I don't believe I have ever setup security questions on my apple id.  I have tried logging into my apple id and have chosen the security and priviacy settings to set up security questions.  However I am prompted to enter answers to security questions and am told they don't match.  How to I create new security questions or reset them?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

My Master card card was rejected in the US store, it was issued in Jordan from Jordan Ahli Bank! However, it is accepted in the Jordanian store, any reason why? and what should i do to get to use the US store for future purchases?

Because they are the terms of use of the stores - terms from the US store :
The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance.
And similar terms apply to all other country's iTunes stores. Part of the reason is licensing (Apple can only sell content where the providers have granted them licenses to sell it), amd part might be due country's laws (some country's have restrictions as to what can be sold within their country). If there is content that you want that is not currently in the Jordanian store then you can try requesting that it be added (but the content providers might not let Apple sell it there) : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

Another user had success doing the following:
I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
      a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
      b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
"done", in the upper right corner
      c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
          security questions.
      d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
          questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.
    Good Luck friends!

Didn't the link to contact the iTunes Store staff in the 'Additional Information' section of that article work for you? If you don't already have a valid rescue email address, only Apple itself can reset the questions.

  • Question from future purchaser

I'm planning on purchasing a MBP this summer (my current laptop, a Dell, is nearing the end of its long -over 4 years of loyal service- life, and will probably just barely survive the Spring semester before the motherboard fails completely), and I had a few questions that I figured actual users of the product could answer better than sales people or nonsensicle tech articles.
Is it true that programs run in BootCamp run much slower than they do on a regular WinXP computer? I have several programs for my WinXP system that I would like to continue to use on the Mac without having to shell out a lot more money to buy OSX copies of (mainly Sims 2, and Lotus WordPad 95).
Is it true the overheating problem is as bad as I have heard? I have heard complaints from people that they cannot even type on their MBP because the keyboard is so warm at times. I, myself, don't even use laptops on my lap because it's bad posture for typing (English major), so if the problem isn't the keyboard, but the underside, I won't mind as much.
Does the MBP run high CPU greedy games very well? As I said, I play Sims 2 a lot (my profs can back up that statement more than I wish). And, while I can barely manage to coax my old laptop (1.4 Ghz with 512 RAM) into playing Sims 2, I would prefer a LOT better performance. It seems that there are articles about the MBP having its graphic card underclocked on purpose. Does anyone know if that is true? And if so, any way of un-underclocking it?
Is it possible to buy the MBP with the max RAM pre-installed? I'm not the best person in the world to ask to mess around and install RAM manually, and I'd rather not have to pay someone to do it for me. The last computer I installed hardware on literally burst into flames, so I'd rather not repeat that experience with a brand new MBP.
That is about it, actually. While I'm not an expert at computers by a long shot, I figure that finding my way around OSX can't be any harder that it was when I was first learning how to use Win 3.1 back in third grade.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Hardly - the Mac w/ XP is pretty much the fastest laptop (XP or otherwise) you can buy right now. Its blazingly fast.

I dont know how to answer that. Mine has never been hot enough that I couldn't use it.

No problem, the Core Duo and X1600 are a great, very fast combo.

    Yes. It just costs more.

  • Questions on a newly purchased K8T Master2 Far m/b

    Hi,
I just purchased a K8T Master2 Far m/b at a local computer store for $89.99. They had two of them sitting on their markdown table. They where in turned inside out Asus K8N-DL m/b boxes. In other words, the box labels where on the inside. They could of been replaced w/the Asus's, though they appear to be brand new.
The K8T Master2 Far has the two HSF's, the HSF back plates, the external USB/Sound slot adapter, and the rear I/O back plate. It has no manual, CD, or cables. The manual and CD files can be downloaded, so that is no problem. I have plenty of cables lying around.
    Some questions:
    1. The manual says the m/b supports the Opteron 244 and up. Can I use a 240 or 242 on it? I also read to make sure to use Opterons which have the following last letters in their p/n's. ( AL, AU, AK, AT ) Any reason?
    2. The two HSF's that came w/it are different from each other, as well as is their mountings. One is a direct screw on while the other is a plastic clamping. The m/b has the plastic mating clamp for it mounted on only one socket. The other socket is just a direct screw on. They both have the back plates. I think I read somewhere that MSI is/was shipping the K8T Master2 Far w/these two different HSF's for some reason. I also read that you can use Intel Xeon HSF's on this m/b. Should I replace the HSF's that came w/it or are they OK? Will the HSF's that come w/the retail Opterons also work?
    3. The m/b is a rev. 1 model. What is the difference between the rev. 1 and rev. 2 m/b's?
    4. What's the fastest Opteron cpu that can be used on this m/b? I read the X2's can't be used.
    5. I noticed that MSI hasn't updated the BIOS in a long time. Any word on any future BIOS update or is the m/b totally dead in regards to any further support?
    6. Finally any problems running Windows XP x64 on this m/b?
I plan to add the K8T Master2 Far to my DC (distributed computing) network.
    Thx.

I use 2 Opterons 240 on it, no problem at all.
For the mounting of the coolers, read the manual.
BIOS 1.10 or 1.20 are the best versions to use.
MSI is working on a new BIOS as we speak, but it's not finished.
As for the revision, as far as I know it only comes in Ver1....
You are mixing the other board, that's the K8T-Master-2FAR7, but has a different MS-xxxx number and does support the Dual-core CPU's, but there are big problems with the board when using just 1 CPU, MSI is working on a better BIOS to fix 1 CPU support.
Win64 runs without problems at all.
