A Question on the Non-Destructive nature of HD...Multiple Projects from 1?

I've been toiling with a sublime but slowish G3 iBook for years. Finally I get into a G4 Aluminum. I've been in iMovie 4 and have found myself very comfortable with it.
But, our school has HD from iLife 06. Slick!
I make home movies each month. And each month's file (Say, March) ends up being in the ballpark of 30 GB. As I make a movie I delete scenes, chop, edit, blend... etc, and when I'm done, I've got a 5 minute movie that's 2 GB in size. Great for archiving on DVD as an iMovie Data.
Then I go back to the external drive, transfer the same March 30 GB file, make another movie from it and wittle it down.
Each movie can have different or similar clips, the point is I end up with about 4 to 5 movies from each month.
I would like to use HD 06 (provided it will work on my G4 867, will it?). I would like to use it, but can't imagine how it would load up my 100GB harddrive. I like to be working on several movies at the same time, provided the Harddrive space allows it.
So now that the reader kind of understands my usage, here is my qwestion... Will iMovie HD allow me to take March's 30 GB file for example, keep it on the harddrive, and make multiple movies from that file. Inotherwords, March resides on the laptop and 5 seperate movies are being created from that same 30 GB file, at the same time....?
Or, would I have to re-transfer March and make another movie from that sepreate file?
I can resign myself from making Data back ups of the iMovie file.... if HD will work in this multiple project from 1 file manner.

Each separate movie would need to contain the media used in it.
So when you use the Save As command you essentially create two copies of the same project including all the underlying media.
iMovie HD 6 should run on your G4. You can see full system requirements here:

Bypassing the non destructive editing for emptying trash

Hey.
I am completey at my wits end over this. I have footage imported to three separate imovie projects. I have to try and combine these on the one timeline. However everytime I try to move anything it tells me I don't have enough memory. Fair enough so I empty the trash but it is restoring no memory to my hard drive or iMovie - From looking this up it seems to be because of the non detructive editing feature but I don't want to go back on any cuts or keep anything I've deleted just in case. I really need the space so I can begin to move clips around again and finish the project. Is there anyway of telling the programme to just empty the trash and ignore the non destructive editing feature?

Then I open a new blank iMovie project. I drag the desired clips to that project and save.
That, too, preserves the total lengths of the underlying media clips.
iMovie 5-6 dropped the ability to trim unwanted parts of the media clips. iMovie 1-4 allowed the user to do this at the expense of a more fragile project structure.
The workaround to trim the media clips is to:
1. export to tape and import back. Pros: preserves separate clips. Cons: clumsy & slow. Occasional dropped frames may make the process lossy.
2. export to Full Quality .dv and import back. Pros: No dropped frames -- truly non-lossy. Faster. Cons: clumsy, you have to manually break clips into scenes after import.
Cons for 1&2: effects are permanently burned into the image.

In case of Non Stock Material - Different GL for projects from WRX

Hi Gurus,
While doing MIGO for non stock material in case of projects, system is crediting account from WRX in OBYC with blank valuation class. but how can we give different GL for projects in this case.

Its upto you if you want maintain material master record or not for non valuated material. With material master you have a material code to input in the field of PO, without material master you put in short text.

Construct the URL to launch a specific C-project from ABAP Report.

Hi All,
For one of my ABAP applications, I want to open a specific C-project in the browser from an ABAP Report.
Constructing some URL, I could navigate to the list of all the C-projects that we have in portfolio.
Now to navigate to a particular C-project in that, I don't know how to proceed. To be specific, I don't know how to pass the C-project ID in the URL and make it understand which project I want to open.
When we right click on any field in the NWBC, in the technical help, we have "URL Start Parameter". Can these be used to construct the URL?
I have attached the screen shot of the URL Start parameters that I see in NWBC.

I think you are using “Content-Type” header or an “Accept” header.
You should be using “Accept: application/xml” for that request

Question regarding the itunes library files when moving itunes library from 1 hard drive to another.

My itunes library had out grown my 2TB drive (I'm a bit of a podcast addict) so I got a 4TB drive to replace it but for some reason my Mac Pro started to act up and eventually apps became crippled to where they would not open.
So I had no choice but to go back to my 2TB drive for my boot drive for now but my itunes library is now slightly larger than the 2TB drive and won't fit so with my previous 4TB drive connected via a hard drive dock I followed the instructions to move my itunes library to a secondary 4TB drive in my mac pro and that went fine the one thing I noticed is in the article it says not to move the 2 library files but now my itunes media is on a internal drive and the 2 library files are on the hard drive connected to my mac pro via the dock so if I was to remove the drive from the dock the 2 library files would no longer be accessable and my itunes library would not be able to be found even though the media in on one of my internal drives.
Anyone know how I can rectify this issue?

Getting the same return string while reading multiple times from a GPIB instrument

I'm having problems reading data from a GPIB instrument.
I'm using a sequence similiar to this:
1. Send a "MEASCALRES?" command to the calibrator to measure the current pressure.
2. Read the result string sent from the calibrator.
3. Send a "SYST:ERR:NEXT?" query to check if an error has occured.
4. Recieve the error string from the calibrator.
When running the program, the error string sometimes contains the same data as the pressure reading. For example, if the calibrator's pressure output string was "1.0000000e2", the error string might be "1.0000000e2" or sometimes just "20, No Errors", with the extra "2" added to the normal "0, No Errors".
The problem a
ppears to occure randomly, a rough estimate would be that it happens one time out of 50 readings.
Are there any relevant GPIB card settings I can change to fix the problem?

It looks to me that more data is send or data end is signalled to early by hte iocard.
Maybe you should check the gpib bus cable speed. The default is much too fast for almost all instruments. Put it on 2 microseconds (the slowest speed). And we always disable autopolling, to prevent asynchronous actions.

What is the best way to handle executing multiple packages from the Agent?

I have several packages that have to be executed in sequence. I thought the best way to do that was by creating a job for each package then have a master job that executes the other packages. In my master job, I'm using sp_start_job to call the other
jobs. The problem is, the master job moves from step to step without waiting for the child jobs to finish; basically they all execute together.
That is the way I've seen it done in other places so I feel like I'm doing something wrong. In the alternative, I know it's possible to set the individual steps up so they execute the packages directly without calling an external job. I prefer the first
way though.
Which way should I jump on this?

So basically what I'm hearing is just call the packages in a mulit step job. Creating a master package and calling child packages sounds a little crazy and unscaleable especially considering that the packages have master child relationships
within themselves. It's SSIS Package Inception.

Provided you're setting the package sequence correctly based on your dependency it will work fine as loop gets iterated based on how you set the package list.
What we have is a audit and control mechanism which even have details on the dependency so based dependency set only the packages gets ordered and listed for the loop to iterate through and executing. Also tomorrow if a new package comes into being, all
it takes for us is to tweak the audit table to add a new entry for the package and set the dependency and it will continue to work fine including the new package without touching the existing job for any modification whatsoever.
Another advantage of this table is we also capture audit details in it like date when package got last executed, its status of execution,rows processed (insert,modified, deleted) etc which can be used for easy monitoring of the data processing tasks as well.

Paging and Non Destructive Filter

Hi all,
I am trying to create a list screen for a small application I
am working on and I've hit a problem.
Originally my list was to show just 10 results at a time and
for this I used the code from the "Paging Sample" and managed to
get this working with next and prev buttons.
All fine at this stage.
However, I now need to be able to filter the list based on
criteria enetered into a text feild by the user and the "Non
Destructive Filter Sample" provided a good solution.
I implemented the functions and it sort of works. When the
list first loads the paging functions filter this full list to the
10 results I require and pressing the next button shows the next
10. The non destructive filter also works in that it will filter
the list based on user input.
The problem that I have is that if a user keys in a some
criteria that makes the non destructive fiter show more than 10
results (say 30 results) they all show and the paging functions are
no longer used.
I have tried in vain to apply the paging functions to the non
destructive filter funtions so that when they return the rows it
will limit the results to 10 at a time.
Has anyone else come accross this? Does anyone have any
advice or sample code that may help.

Non destructive crop preserved when you "Edit in Photoshop"

I hope that there would be an option in the future to crop an image in lightroom, then when you open to "edit in photoshop" the image would be cropped using photoshop new non destructive crop. So that i can tweak color and retouch the whole image then close and i can do final cropping back in LR.

Sometimes, people crop pictures in LR before making many adjustments just to see if the image works, then go on to the next image etc... then batch export to psd or even edit in PS one by one to retouch. Its painstaking to make a virtual copy, reset the crop, export/edit in psd, then copy the original crop from the master raw, then paste it to the psd file. Another way, adobe can make this work is to have an option to have "Edit in Photoshop" command to not apply the crop from LR. Open the full image, then when it imports it back to LR have LR apply the non destructive crop.

UTILIZING iMovie's non-destructive feature

K, I've seen dozons of post regarding the dislikes and work arounds for iMovie's non-destructive default functionality. However, the true purpose of this feature im yet to take advantage of, and would like to do so if possible.
New to iMovie, just started using it last month. Dig it. I've popped in some sound trax and am now editing the timing of the clips to the music. What Im finding is that I'm left with small gaps of dead space in the timeline pane where I'd like to 'extend' or add the rest of the clip to soak up that .24 sec. (or whatever) between the two clips. Can the non-destructive element 'add' in this missing time from the native clip?
Timing would'nt have been much of an issue if I didn't have to delete transitions constantly to splice in clips n' pic's, which consequently shifted the timing a bit. Now that the montage is done, and the clips are timed to the music, I gotta fix them gaps!

pixel punk, the non-destructive editing feature of iMovie isn't really intended to help you 'add' stuff to fill gaps. But it DOES let you re-lengthen a clip that's been shortened. That may be all you need.
Basically, it lets you restore a clip to it's original length (or something less) if you've shortened a clip. So if you change your mind after shortening a clip — even after emptying the iMovie Trash — you can restore the clip to (up to) its original length.
That means that Yes, if you have shortened a clip on either side of a gap you can use Direct Trimming to lengthen the clip to fill the gap. The non-destructive editing feature guarantees that the "stuff" removed from the clip is still there in the clip. You can re-lengthen the clip to get it back.
If the clip hasn't been shortened, then you must fill the gap some other way. If the gap is small, one way is to fill it with a picture of the last frame seen before the gap. Don't use iMovie's Create Still Frame command to fill the gap for the image quality is poor. Rather, use the Save Frame command, save the frame as a PICT, then re-import the PICT back into the project. Use Direct Trimming, if necessary, to shorten the PICT clip to fill the gap.
The gap will look good. If the view notices anything, he will assume the videographer simply paused.

How do you use Non-destructive filter with Nested XML data?
I am using the non-destructive filter sample with my own xml which is setup to search for the <smc></smcs> in my xml below. But when i test it it only searches the last row of the "smc". How can i make it work so it can search for repeating nodes? or does it have something to with how my xml is setup?

I apologize, im using Spry XML Data Set. i guess the best way to describe what im trying to do is, i want to use the Non-desctructive filter sample with the Spry Nested XML Data sample. So with my sample xml on my first post and with the same code non-destructive filter is using, im having trouble trying to search repeating nodes, for some reason it only searches the last node of the repeating nodes. Does that make sense? let me know.
