A Really Basic Issue : InfoObjects

Hi All
This is a fundamental basic question about inofobjects.
I have recently extracted a table into a new DSO using a custom extractor. on the BW side I created 4 new Z inofobjects for use in the DSO. (say Z1 to Z4).
I have also enhanced a standard extractor with one new field and that field can be used to join to field Z3 above. However the data set will be much larger than that of Z3 in the DSO. This newly extracted field will go into another DSO which I am about modify.
The question is should I enhance this DSO by adding inofobject Z3 or create a new infoobject. What is the impact of the 2 options. Is it worth using Z3 as a template or even a reference infoobject) ?
Am I making this unneccesarily complicated and worrying over nothing.
Thanx
HKF

If the definition of the source data is the same then it is unnecessary (and even makes the datamodel too complicated) to create a separate info object.
Let's say if you have a country data field and currently using it to map it in Z3 info object in a ODS for contintent 'Australia' data, it will only have a couple of values for your Z3 (country) info object. If you are now going to populate another ODS that holds data for the rest of the world, you would still use the same country info object (as the definition of the data is the same, only the number of different values increases).
Best regards,
Arno

  • Help me if you dare! Sorry I have a really complicated issue....

    Hi guys,
I have a macbook, white, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Snow Leopard (10.6.4)
And I have a really complicated issue.
I have a Apple iBook Clamshell with no Airport, and a need to connect wirelessly.
I figured (since I've done it before with my Xbox 360) that I could connect the two via Ethernet and "Share" their connection.
The Clamshell's specs are: 466 MHz, 128 MB RAM and OS 9.1 (I know ancient...)
So if anyone has a solution, please respond!

Connect them with an Ethernet cable and start Internet sharing from the Sharing pane of System Preferences. You may need to change settings in the Firewall tab of the Security pane.

  • Darwin Streaming Server (really basic help)

Hey, I need some basic DSS help. REALLY basic help. So, Darwin is installed and everything, and I can upload movies to the /usr/local/movies directory. When I upload them there, I can see them in the 'make new playlist' screen. However, Darwin seems to be requesting a .sdp file as the 'mount point'?? What's with that?
    Thanks for any assistance.

The mount point is supposed to be the location on the hard disk where the movie file resides; the sdp extension indicates that the file is a stream. To create a SDP file, try using the information linked to from this page.

Hi, I hope you can help. I'm sure this is something really basic that I should be able to fix myself, but.................
I was working on a photo calendar on my macbook off the battery and the battery suddenly ran out. So it wasn't shut down properly. Now when I open i photo the coloured wheel just keeps spinning and I can't get into it. Everything else on the computer seems to work. I've done forced quit and restarted it a few times and also left it running.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Really basic query

    Hi,
I am a novice. I can't figure out what (+) means when it appears in statements like this: (the below statement is only representative)
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a, t_users b where
    a.f_user_id(+) = b.f_user_id
    and what abt
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a, t_users b where
    a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id(+)
Whats the difference between the first and second usage?
Kindly bear with me if this is a really basic stuff.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I can't figure out what (+) means (+) is an outer join.
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a,
    t_users b where
a.f_user_id(+) = b.f_user_idIt take all records of b table, even if join a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id is not verified. If join is not verified, a.amount value will be null.
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a,
    t_users b where
a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id(+)It take all records of a table, even if join a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id is not verified. If join is not verified, b.f_user_id value will be null.

  • Top 4 basic issues that are encountered in SCOM 2012 and SCCM 2012

    HI,
I need to give a presentation on the basic issues that are encountered in SCOM 2012 and SCCm 2012.
Can anyone help me out with this?
    Thanks in advance
    Rohith Kumar

    Hi,
I am not familiar with SCCM, so I will give some issue I encounterred in SCOM:
    1. Not monitored and grey agent, here is an article for your reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212723.aspx
    2. Failed to discover and install agents, this may caused by the action account or install account does not have proper permissions to install the agents. Some time maybe the discovery rule is not enabled.
    3. Failed to import Management Pack, this may caused by references MPs are not imported to the management group, or sometime the proper referenced MPs are imported, but there may be incorrect typing in the XML file which defines the management pack.
    4. Runas account and Action account fail. If you change password for action account, you may also need to change the password everywhere the account is used in SCOM. For run as account, if the account does not have enough right to run some tasks, we may
encounter errors. You may refer to the below link which take SQL mp for example:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/09/08/configuring-run-as-accounts-and-profiles-in-r2-a-sql-management-pack-example.aspx

  • Really basic Install help needed, please.

    Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, I've searched this whole forum and probably don't know enough to ask the right "search" questions because I haven't found the answers.
Over the past few months, I've been learning Linux as I now plan to switch from Windows to a Linux distro rather than go with a new computer and Windows 7 and the associated problems.  I have tried several Linux distros individaully side by side with  Windows XP on a partitioned drive.. Most recently I've been using Linux Mint 8 'Helena' and done lots with and to it.  Linux Mint 9 'Isadora' was just released, and since upgrading for a non-rolling distro is a nuisance, I thought I'd try a rolling one. After review and recommendations, I thought I'd give Arch Linux a try. Since most of my computer use is music via a Jukebox (14+k files), browsing, email and info seeking, I don't need all the bells and whistles whith which many distros come. I'm not a gamer.
    Basic Infor:
PC with 1.4GHz Athlon,  512 Ram, 320 G Hard Drive partitioned equally between Windows XP and Linux (hopefully Arch). High Speed DSL.
What I need are some really really basic instructions on a side by side install of Arch.
SOofar, I've got the clock set, and have partitioned my hard drive into
SDA 1 (my Windows Partition)(160 Gigs
    SDA5                                               1200mb for my swap
SDA6                                                20 Gigs for the root
SDA7                                               130 (the rest) Gigs for home
What I need to know is darned near everything else.
    Bootability for SDA5-7
How to label (the method for) SDA 5-7
and thereafter a step by step really simple set of install instructions for a side by side installation.
I've searched on this forum as well as via Google, but simple  instructions are nowhere to be found. I really have had no trouble installing Mepis, Madriva, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint side by side with my Windows Xp partition and done so for at least 2 of them with manual partitioning rather than the automatic side by side install offered.
With this introduction, can someone point me to a Arch Linux side by side install for Dummies or help me with a walk through??
Or am I in completely over my head and need to just go back to Linux Mint and plan to upgrade every 6-18 months? Or try a different rolling Distro???
Thanks in advance to any and all who can help..
    Dick

    Willie,
Were I certain I would be happy with Arch, there would be no problem doing as you suggest. However, looking backover at least 2 decades, our first computer was an IBM with an 8086 chip and 20 whole MB of hard drive. The choice of operating systems was DOS. As we moved onwards and upwards, Windows 95, 98, and XP were Hobson's choice for PC users (our office computer used Unix). Now with more experience and research, a new world of operating systems is available, especially for those of us with older computers which would require major (and expensive) upgrades when possible to move to Windows 7. And as with Windows ME, 2000, and Vista, there is probably potential for significant problems with 7. Utilizing my current ability to have 2 (or more) OS's on my computer affords the opportunity to learn more about them and develop my 'geekiness" as well as to evaluate and selectively choose one which will best meet my needs.
As of now, I have at least 3 problems with abandoing Windows XP completely:
    1) I haven't found a Jukebox program for Linux equivalent to J Rivers' Media Jukebox which has seamless track switching, an equalizer, and DSP studio effects, etc. I've used WINE doors and made it run on Linux Mint, but the program will not recognize my CD-ROM drives. I have some 14+k music files and my computer jukebox runs through my home sound system.
    2) I've some 600+ movies indexed on Movie Organizer (movieorganizer.org) which flat out won't run on the Linux distro's I've tried. Re-entering those 600+ indexed movies to another program will be a bear. So far, no one of my local sources or on the other various Linux forums has a solution. WINE doors won't do it as it needs MDAC.
    3) For all its frailties and faults, I'm reasonably literate with Windows XP. Linux OS's are still, quite obviously, relatively unfamiliar to me (3 mos experience).. So until I'm much more conversant with Linux, better the devil I know.
I have installed and used both the Linux Mint 8 Fluxbox and KDE editions on more than one computer so it's not a question of my being shy. BTW, I'm a retired internist, and our speciality is known for being really nitpicky, detail oriented, and investigational, and I'm sure it shows.
Again, thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. I'll keep in touch.

  • How to make a really basic pong game for a beginner

Hello.  I've read through a couple of threads on here dealing with making a game of pong in LabView, but in them the users had questions with far more complex aspects of the program than I want to deal with.  I am a beginner programmer in LabView with limited experience in Java and Visual Basic programming.  I was tasked with creating a game over winter break, and now that I finally have some time (this weekend that is), I decided that I'd make a really simple game of pong.  However, I have seriously overestimated the difficulty of this for a beginner who has very limited knowledge of Lab View.
I ask you to please have some patience with me.
I know what I want to do, and just need help inplementing it.
Here is the idea for my design to keep it as simple as possible:
-Create a field (I am not sure what to use for this, but from my reading it appears that some sort of a picture output is needed, but I cannot find that anywhere).
-Set up some simple function that can output the dimensions of this field to use with collision tracking.
-Create a ball that can be tracked by the program.
-From my reading I understand that the simplest way to "bounce" the ball off the sides appears to simply reverse the X velocity of the ball when it strikes the vertical boundaries and the Y velocity when it strikes the horizontal boundaries.
-Insert some sort of a "paddle" that the user can control with the left and right arrow keys.
Now, as I have mentioned I am a beginner with approximately one month maximum knowledge of this software, spread over about a year.  I want to take things slow.  So for starters, would anyone be willing to walk me through creating a visual output for this and creating a ball that will bounce off all sides?
If I can at least get that far for now, then I can move on (with help I hope!) of inserting an interactive interface for the "paddle."
I have found some LabView code for a simple game like this, but it also includes a score keeping loop as well as an "automatic play" option, and I am attempting to wade through all that code to find the bones of it to help me with this, but due to my inexperience, this might thake a lot of time.
I thank you for any and all help anyone may be able to provide.

    EchoWolf wrote:

Wel, there is the picture indicator in the picture palette. In newer versions it's called "2D picture". The palettes have a search function. Using the palette search function is a basic LabVIEW skill that you should know. If you've seen the example for the other discussion, it uses a 2D boolean array indicator. The boolean array is only recommended for a monochrome very low resolution display.
EchoWolf wrote: -Set up some simple function that can output the dimensions of this field to use with collision tracking.

That seems backwards. Properly programmed, the code always knows the dimension and the ball position. The program generates, (not tracks!) the ball movement. Of course you need to do some range checking on the ball position to see when it collides with the walls.
    EchoWolf wrote:

Of course you could make it more realistic by keeping track of three ball parameters: x, y, spin.
    EchoWolf wrote:

Pong is typically played with the up-down arrow keys.

LabVIEW knowledge is not measured in time units. What did you do during that month? Did you attend some lectures, study tutorials, wrote some programs?

Start with the posted example and delete all the controls and indicators that you don't want, then surgically remove all code with broken wires.
Alternatively, start from scratch: Create your playing field. Easiest would be a 2D classic boolean array that is all false. Use initialize array to make it once. Now use a loop to show the ball as a function of time.
Start with a random ball position. to display it, turn one of the array elements true before wiring to the array indicator using replace array subset.
Keep a shift register with xy positions and xy velocities and update the positions as a function of the velocities with each iteration of the loop. Do range checking and reverse the velocieis when a edge is encountered.

  • Really big issue after last upgrade

    After invoking
    pacman -Syu
this morning something really strange happened : it upgraded my kernel headers and docs to kernel 2.6.35.7, but did nothing to the kernel itself. After the install of all packages, I went to the '/boot' directory and it was empty except for the 'grub' sub-directory. Since the kernel was still loaded in memory, it was only a matter of doing
    pacman -S kernel26
and it installed the kernel and initramfs image.  All this happened while I rebooted in console mode to uninstall gtk/gnome completely and install kde.
After that I went to check my system configuration file 'rc.conf' and guess what, it was missing too and after that I noticed that 'inittab' had also been deleted. Luckly I edited both files with vim which made backups in 'rc.conf~' and 'inittab~' respectively, so it was easy to restore both. After having a quick look at etc I decided to reboot the system(default runlevel was changed back to 5 so I could boot kde directly) but something was strange after reboot(I expected that) : nouveau framebuffer driver did not load and I never entered KDM, getting a terminal login instead. Also noticed that the PS1 variable was not set. After trying to edit my configuration files I kept getting that this was a read only file system and could do nothing until I booted with an old ubuntu livecd. After checking on 'inittab' again I noticed the following files were missing(sadly, I never edited them):
    - /etc/rc.sysinit
    - /etc/rc.single
    - /etc/rc.multi
    - /etc/rc.shutdown
Has anyone experienced this 'accident' before? If so, do you have any clue how I might recover those files? I would rather not reinstall the system.
      Thanks in advance.

pacman -Qo /etc/rc.sysinit reports owned by package initscripts ... which you could re-install ... might be worth reviewing logs and see if you can figure out whats going on first though ...
Thanks, after manually installing the 'initscripts' package in '/var/cache/pacman/pkg', my system was restored. As for what happened, I believe it was some bug with pacman, as the 'initscripts' package was uninstalled after the system upgrade. That package was part of the 'base' meta package which was upgraded as a whole. After the restore I issued :
    pacman -Sf initscripts
to have the package 'officially installed'.
As I stated, 'initscripts' was not the only package uninstalled after the system upgrade, kernel26 was lost too(but kernel26-docs and kernel26-headers were upgraded successfully). After the restore I tried to start kde with 'startx' and got a message stating that '/usr/bin/X' could not be found/executed. That was solved by reinstalling the 'xorg' meta package, but I believe some package of the 'xorg' group was also uninstalled after the upgrade.

  • How to make a really basic alleyway for a beginner

Hello,I am a student making a project related to games and I picked an alleyway.I've
read through a couple of threads on here dealing with making a game of
alleyway in LabView.I a still a newbie and I am asking for some
guideance inorder to be able to make such a game.I ask you to please have some patience with me.
      I
am ,as you figured it out ,EchoWolf's class mate. And I also like also
to learn LabView not just coping and cheating for I would like to
increase my knowledge in LabView and because the purpose of this assignment is to learn.
     I
have seen with EchoWolf's post and I was impressed how I was able to
make a ball bounce from different starting positions and different
    angles.
As I want to keep this game basic, I don't think I'll worry about having different ball speeds so far.
    Alley
way is a game when the ball hits the brick and it
breaks(disappears),how can I do it do I need to vanish it using the
    property node.
I am sorry, I was not taught enough and I only ask
for guideance and patience for I am a quick learner and I am very good
at Math and Physics and I have some experience in C++ although the

    LOL,
First, let's play nice and actually give the source of the code you attached. I have the gut feeling that it is overly complicated and could be done with 25% of the code.
As a first step, I would enable "smooth updates" on the image indicator to prevent the annoying flickering
    Echo Wolf2 wrote:

Yes, you have to worry, because the speed e.g. needs to change sign when it hits an object. Of course you could solve it with complex data and keep the speed magnitude constant.
    Echo Wolf2 wrote:

I don't think you understand the meaning of "property node". What exactly did you have in mind?

It's probably the wrong approach trying to reverse engineer existing complicated code, so what I would do is start with some simple code like your classmate, writing someting where the ball bounces off walls only. Then you can expand it and add bricks. At the end add a paddle for user control.
Make a plan about good data structures. How is the arena represented in memory?

The only way to really gain experience is to write programs. It's been 6+ hours since you posted. How far did you get in the meantime? Show us what you are doing and please ask questions when you get stuck.

  • Error - 50 and other really frustrating issues, none resolved so far on online community

    Hi all,
I'm on the verge of giving up on Apple Itunes and the Store altogether. Since the second last iTunes update came out I've had continuing issues with downloads that get interrupted with a range of error messages coming up, the most recent and by far most common being Error -50. These days it's a 50/50 gamble whether iTunes actually opens or not. When it is open and I download something from the Store, chances are the following will happen:
*The download will be intterupted and iTunes closes, not to be opened again until the computer has been restarted a couple of times.
*The sound and moving image will abruptly get out of sink
*The sound will stall then disappear altogether, following by iTunes stopping to work completely
*I've also had it that a downloaded rental will abruptly stop and when I restart the whole rental is gone and forefeited.
This is really frustrating and I've already begun to buy most of my online content elsewhere.
Customer Support are all very nice people, but they've politely said to me, we can help you to a point -- from hear on in you have to pay for support! Pay for it?! When there stuff isn't working. I haven't changed anything about my computer until those new updates came along and ruined a perfect relationship!
Nevertheless, for those of you that think you can help me, I have done the following:

Any (conclusive!) help would be massively appreciated!

My home is 2880sqft and a two story, I have the router in the game room upstairs (moved from the office to a more central location recently).  However, my signal strength on my devices is 100% but my connection speeds when connected to wireless just always drop or are sometimes non existent and I have to disconnect my device from wireless and re-connect.  It is as if I'm connected to the router but I'm just not getting internet connectivity. I can be sitting right next to the router and this happens.  This only happens with wireless I always have a steady connection when connected with ethernet.
If I change to different SSIDs won't that disable the devices being able to see each other on the same network?  Mainly need to be able to stream content to my devices.
I will try this solution, but if this doesn't work should I be looking at upgrading to a newer model (hate that I spent so much on this one) or look elsewhere for my wireless router solutions.

  • A really strange issue in Stratus

    Hi,
I'm facing a very strange issue in Stratus. Let me explain:
I have two mac machines (i.e. One is Mac and other is MacPro). Both are in the same network. When Mac connects with MacPro, audio, video, text conversation goes really well but when MacPro connects with Mac, I see audio, video but MacPro can't send text messages to Mac but Mac can send text messages to MaPro. It's really strange I know but I'm stuck in that issue. Please help me out.
    Thanks

Remember that the format you should use is:
    <share name>\<folder>
    and not
    \tempforXI\sender
Where share name is in your case tempforXI.

  • Really basic questions

I received Logic Express 8 for Christmas, but I am afraid to open it, since it seems so complex I may never get going on it. I usually use Finale to write the notation for my music then synthesize the instrument playback and send it to Garage Band to add the vocals. Can Logic Express do these things? I don't play instruments, but I can write for them.
    Thank you!

I have just started using mine. I was in the process of testing out the Allegro and was not very happy with it since it is 2007 and not ready for Leopard yet, it had some issues. Then I decided to give the Logic Express a try and basically I am wondering ho can Allegro cost that much! For a little more than the price of an upgrade to my Print Music I have a fantastic platform. I find Logic to be complex and it is justifiably so. There are many terminologies I simply am not familiar with which also appear in Finale languages as well. But, Logic is just fantastic.
I write Bass Guitar stuff as a way to learn the instrument. I have a BEAD 4-string and am in the process of customizing Logic for it.
One last thing: be very careful with transferring your MIDI files. I would say keep both programs on your computer until you are sure the MIDI's you created meet the standards of another platform before you fully migrate.
    Good luck, and enjoy.

  • Really basic question: why?

Why does Java Web Start exist?
If you want a Java application to run in a browser, isn't easier just to write an applet?

This sounds good, but it looks to me like Java Web
Start really doesn't deliver on its promise. It has some issues that are left to be resolved (download of a special JRE seems not to work, some proxy related madness, some stuff involving admin priviledges is not easy..) but in general it is much easier to use than the bl**dy browser plug ins.
I believe it is the easiest method to deploy Java apps over the web.
got to install a JRE and JWS in a completely separate
process, and if something causes the client-side
configuration to change, it fails. It comes down to one install (JWS which includes the JRE or the new 1.4 JDK/JRE, which includes JWS).
I still can't it to install correctly, and can't get the demos to run. What system, what problem?
For my application, running in a browser is ok. I've
seen some articles that suggest that you can get out
of the sandbox with a signed applet, although a brief
look suggests that the procedure for installing a
certificate is a headache. You sign the jars (one command line call) and your users have to click "yes, I accept" one time - this is not too much asked.
So the question remains: why use JWS, given that
installation is more difficult than for an applet? You can do real apps (not bound to the browser windows) and you can deploy different versions (updating is easy).
All in all this is a developing technology, which is already very useful.

  • Basic Issue with ODI interface

    Hi All,
I have a very strange problem.
I am coding my second interface in ODI.
    Its very simple
Joining 4 tables ,with one filter and connect it with the target table.
The interface when executed runs fine, without any error.
But the target table doesn't get populated.
So when i check the ODI interface at every step via the Operator navigator,I get no error at any step.
step1) drop a table (this comes as a warning as no table exists)
step2) create a view(this step suceeds ,but when i check the database the view is not created)
STEP 2 is a real issue and I can't understand as to why this view is not
getting created in database, when the step completes successfully
Pls can someone suggest where should i look for ?

I can relate to your issue.
ODI does this to me all the time.
The Operator logs show all greens and show no error, but no data makes its way to the Target.
I usually remove one mapping at a time and re-run the Interface. That helps me pin-point what might be the issue. Very frustrating.
