A really basic UDP sender

Hi,
I am trying to make a basic UDP sender. I want to send the average speed of a vehicle to another computer by UDP. I saw an example in Labview 7.1 database: UDP sender.vi.
What I need to know:
How do I find my local and remote port number?
Is the remote host address, the IP address?
Thanks a lot for your help,
Have a nice day,
Phil

See my example in this recent thread.
The remote port number is determined by the listening port of the server. You need to find out. (Many port numbers are assigned by IANA to certain services. For example, if this is a syslog server, you would need to send to remote port 514/UDP.)
The remote host address is the IP address expressed as U32 number. USe String-to-IP to translate a hostname (e.g. ni.com) or dotted-decimal IP address (e.g. 192.168.100.100) to the correct format.
In many cases, the local port is irrelevant. Often it is easiest to simply wire a zero to it. In this case, the OS will automatically choose a free ephemeral port. (If you choose a specific local port, there is always a finite chance that this particular port is already in use, giving you an error.).

  • Basic UDP

I am a new user to LabVIEW and am interested in using to create a "simulator"
for a bunch of "signals". These signals are basically words in a UDP message.
Can anyone tell me how to set up a simple program to write the words (binary)
    out to
in a UDP message for a specific IP address. As of now I am trying to put
    the
appropriate words into an array and then send out the array.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Also remember I am a nubie and
getting very basic answers is what I am looking for, I am even having a little
    trouble
creating the array as I need it to be. Maybe I should be using a string?
Please email me with answers or information
    Thanks

The crucial thing here is to have a very good understanding of the format that is
expected on the receiving end of the UDP/TCP connection.
When you say that the signals are binary words in a UDP message, does that mean 2-byte
binary chunks? Does it instead mean conventional text (printable ASCII) words that
are transmitted 8 bits at a time? Something else?
Here's one example: I can take a LabVIEW string control, enable backslash display for
the control, type in "\34\67\68\69\06\07\05\61" (hex ASCII codes for 4, g, h, i, th
    ree
unprintable bytes, and a) and then send that string to a remote client via UDP or
TCP. What I am really doing is sending binary data to the remote host--8 bytes or 4
words. If it so happens that the remote machine is expecting and can decode this
data, then I'm in good shape. If not, I have to reevaluate how I construct my
    message.
    Hope it helps a little,

  • Increase UDP sending size over 64k bytes and get error -113,sending buffer not enough

    Dear all,
I have a case that I must send a data over 64k bytes in a socket with UDP . I got a error-113 shows "A message sent on a datagram socket was larger than the internal message buffer or some other network limit, or the buffer used to receive a datagram was smaller than the datagram itself.".I searched for this issue and got the closest answer as below:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D5AC7E8AE545322D8625730100604F2D?OpenDocument
It said I have to change buffer size with Wsock.dll. I used the same mathod to increaes the send buffer to 131072 bytes by choice optionname to so_sndbuf (x1001) and give it value with 131072 and it worked fine without error. However I still got an error 113 while sending data with " UDP Write.vi ". It seems UDP write.vi reset the buffer size? Are there any other things cause the error?
I attached example code. In UDP Sender.vi you can see I change send buffer size to 131072 and send date included a 65536 bytes data. There is also a UDP receiver.vi and there is some missing VI which you can get from the LINK. But it's not necessary.

The header for a UDP packet includes a 16 bit field that defines the size of the UDP message (HEADER AND DATA)
16 bits limits you to a total size of 65635 bytes, minus the header sizes; a minimum of 20 bytes are required to define an IP packet and 8 bytes for UDP leaving an effective data payload of 65507
     bytes.
    LabVIEW is not the issue...

  • Darwin Streaming Server (really basic help)

Hey, I need some basic DSS help. REALLY basic help. So, Darwin is installed and everything, and I can upload movies to the /usr/local/movies directory. When I upload them there, I can see them in the 'make new playlist' screen. However, Darwin seems to be requesting a .sdp file as the 'mount point'?? What's with that?
    Thanks for any assistance.

The mount point is supposed to be the location on the hard disk where the movie file resides; the sdp extension indicates that the file is a stream. To create a SDP file, try using the information linked to from this page.

  • WCF Basic Http Send Adapter Observation (BUG in WCF Adapter ?)

    Hi,
I have a request response WCF Basic Http send adapter with URL say http://dds.testservice.com/service
I send a request and get a response in my orchestration. Everything works fine.
I have a scope around the send receive shape in orch to catch excpetion of service call.
To test this I changed the URL to  http://dds.testservice.com/service1 and I got the exception in orch and caught.
But if URl is changed to  http://dds.testservice.com1/service i.e I am putting invalid server name . Note the 1 after com.
In this scenario the WCF Send adapter remains in Active state for ever till terminated.
Why is this behaving this way. How will orchestration ever know if the send failed if its always in active state and no response sent back to catch block.
Is it a bug in BizTalk WCF Adapter            ?

What you're experiencing is not unexpected.
The server name and the service path are completely different and, technically, have nothing to do with each other. They are resolved separately, and in different places.
"service1" is failing immediately because the host is getting the request but, not recognizing "service1" is returning an error immediately.
"*.com1" takes much longer to fail to the Orchestration because of the stack of timeouts and default retries in the Send Port and IP stack.
So, no, it is not a bug.

Hi, I hope you can help. I'm sure this is something really basic that I should be able to fix myself, but.................
I was working on a photo calendar on my macbook off the battery and the battery suddenly ran out. So it wasn't shut down properly. Now when I open i photo the coloured wheel just keeps spinning and I can't get into it. Everything else on the computer seems to work. I've done forced quit and restarted it a few times and also left it running.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • UDP Send and Receive with Remote Host Only Issue

I am seeing an issue using the UDP Sender and UDP Receiver example VIs that ship with LabVIEW. If I open the VIs and do not change any of the settings and run the UDP Receiver VI and then the UDP Sender VI the Receiver VI never reads anything. However if I change the boolean on the UDP Sender VI to broadcast it works fine.
The example program by default uses localhost so I have also tried to use the UDP Receiver on my Real Time controller and the UDP Sender on my laptop with the boolean set to remote host only and the remote host string set to the ip address of my real time controller and this did not work either. But if I change the boolean to broadcast it works.
I would like to be able to send to a remote host only and not have to broadcast my UDP message to everyone.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

    Elizabeth,
Thank you for the response. I am using LV 8.2.1 and wasn't seeing any errors.
However I am not seeing the issue today, I must have been an issue with our network yesterday.
    Thank you,

  • How to get rid of the "do you really want to send this" message

Hi all, since I upgraded to Mountain Lion Messages asks me kindly and every time if I really want to send a file to my colleague in the chat. Yes I want that -and- without this returning question. But how to silence it? I could not find it in the Message prefs and the message itself does not contain a "do not show again" radio button. Anybody a suggestion how to fix this? Do I oversee something? Kind regards, Julius

    Hi,
Based my research, due to increasing in security, we cannot disable Download Manager of Internet Explorer 9 from changing settings, editing registry keys or editing settings in Group Policy. This can prevent websites downloading automatically. Instead, we can
    set default download location.
    For reference:

  • Really basic query

    Hi,
I am a novice. I can't figure out what (+) means when it appears in statements like this: (the below statement is only representative)
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a, t_users b where
    a.f_user_id(+) = b.f_user_id
    and what abt
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a, t_users b where
    a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id(+)
Whats the difference between the first and second usage?
Kindly bear with me if this is a really basic stuff.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I can't figure out what (+) means (+) is an outer join.
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a,
    t_users b where
a.f_user_id(+) = b.f_user_idIt take all records of b table, even if join a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id is not verified. If join is not verified, a.amount value will be null.
    select b.f_user_id, a.amount from t_accounts a,
    t_users b where
a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id(+)It take all records of a table, even if join a.f_user_id = b.f_user_id is not verified. If join is not verified, b.f_user_id value will be null.

  • Is it really safe to send such information? Please Help!

    Hi everyone,
So, I'm "working" with an iPhone developer, who has already some apps selling on the App Store! I asked him, if he could get me a better icon of his Application for me. Then he answered me kindly, that he would be able to send me a personal preview release of the next release of the correspondent app.
However, he asked me for an info: he wants me to send the iPhone ID (which is found, by clicking on the label 'serial number').
So, is it really safe to send such information?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Francisco

"Safe" is a relative term. However, short of waiting for the app to be released on the iTunes App Store, that's the only way to get a version of it. The three possible ways for distributing apps are 1) the App Store, 2) direct distribution within an Enterprise organization for internally-developed apps, and 3) limited sharing by a developer with a release tied to a device serial number.
However, note that #3 may not always be possible, as reported for one developer in this linked article.
To be honest, there's not too much a developer could do with your serial number, other than release the app to you, or perhaps report your iPhone as stolen (pretty unlikely, I think).

  • I'm using UDP Send to send an 1D arry with 3 elements. On the other side I'm using UDP Read to read my 1D arry with 3 elements but they are coming in a string for somereason.

Using UDP send to send a data across a connection to UDP read data by using a Port and IP. The data I'm sending is 1D array with 3-elements. I'm taking the 1D array on UDP send side and converting to a string before I send out b/c UDP can not read an array. So I'm using "Array to Spreadsheet String" to and sending it.
On the Other Side I'm using UDP Read to read the data by listing to a port and capturing the data. I'm receving the data but they are in string format instead of 3 spreate elements. So how can I change that to 3 elements instead of string?

It is usually easiest to take any data and flatten it to string before sending.
On the receiving side, use unflatten from string, using the original data type as template.
You can do this with any kind of data (array of strings, array of numbers, booleans, complicated clusters, etc, etc), see attached code image.
Flatten and unflatten is very efficient and does not change the data. For example there is no rounding or formatting loss.

  • Really basic Install help needed, please.

    Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, I've searched this whole forum and probably don't know enough to ask the right "search" questions because I haven't found the answers.
Over the past few months, I've been learning Linux as I now plan to switch from Windows to a Linux distro rather than go with a new computer and Windows 7 and the associated problems.  I have tried several Linux distros individaully side by side with  Windows XP on a partitioned drive.. Most recently I've been using Linux Mint 8 'Helena' and done lots with and to it.  Linux Mint 9 'Isadora' was just released, and since upgrading for a non-rolling distro is a nuisance, I thought I'd try a rolling one. After review and recommendations, I thought I'd give Arch Linux a try. Since most of my computer use is music via a Jukebox (14+k files), browsing, email and info seeking, I don't need all the bells and whistles whith which many distros come. I'm not a gamer.
    Basic Infor:
PC with 1.4GHz Athlon,  512 Ram, 320 G Hard Drive partitioned equally between Windows XP and Linux (hopefully Arch). High Speed DSL.
What I need are some really really basic instructions on a side by side install of Arch.
SOofar, I've got the clock set, and have partitioned my hard drive into
SDA 1 (my Windows Partition)(160 Gigs
    SDA5                                               1200mb for my swap
SDA6                                                20 Gigs for the root
SDA7                                               130 (the rest) Gigs for home
What I need to know is darned near everything else.
    Bootability for SDA5-7
How to label (the method for) SDA 5-7
and thereafter a step by step really simple set of install instructions for a side by side installation.
I've searched on this forum as well as via Google, but simple  instructions are nowhere to be found. I really have had no trouble installing Mepis, Madriva, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint side by side with my Windows Xp partition and done so for at least 2 of them with manual partitioning rather than the automatic side by side install offered.
With this introduction, can someone point me to a Arch Linux side by side install for Dummies or help me with a walk through??
Or am I in completely over my head and need to just go back to Linux Mint and plan to upgrade every 6-18 months? Or try a different rolling Distro???
Thanks in advance to any and all who can help..
    Dick

    Willie,
Were I certain I would be happy with Arch, there would be no problem doing as you suggest. However, looking backover at least 2 decades, our first computer was an IBM with an 8086 chip and 20 whole MB of hard drive. The choice of operating systems was DOS. As we moved onwards and upwards, Windows 95, 98, and XP were Hobson's choice for PC users (our office computer used Unix). Now with more experience and research, a new world of operating systems is available, especially for those of us with older computers which would require major (and expensive) upgrades when possible to move to Windows 7. And as with Windows ME, 2000, and Vista, there is probably potential for significant problems with 7. Utilizing my current ability to have 2 (or more) OS's on my computer affords the opportunity to learn more about them and develop my 'geekiness" as well as to evaluate and selectively choose one which will best meet my needs.
As of now, I have at least 3 problems with abandoing Windows XP completely:
    1) I haven't found a Jukebox program for Linux equivalent to J Rivers' Media Jukebox which has seamless track switching, an equalizer, and DSP studio effects, etc. I've used WINE doors and made it run on Linux Mint, but the program will not recognize my CD-ROM drives. I have some 14+k music files and my computer jukebox runs through my home sound system.
    2) I've some 600+ movies indexed on Movie Organizer (movieorganizer.org) which flat out won't run on the Linux distro's I've tried. Re-entering those 600+ indexed movies to another program will be a bear. So far, no one of my local sources or on the other various Linux forums has a solution. WINE doors won't do it as it needs MDAC.
    3) For all its frailties and faults, I'm reasonably literate with Windows XP. Linux OS's are still, quite obviously, relatively unfamiliar to me (3 mos experience).. So until I'm much more conversant with Linux, better the devil I know.
I have installed and used both the Linux Mint 8 Fluxbox and KDE editions on more than one computer so it's not a question of my being shy. BTW, I'm a retired internist, and our speciality is known for being really nitpicky, detail oriented, and investigational, and I'm sure it shows.
Again, thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. I'll keep in touch.
    Dick

  • How to make a really basic pong game for a beginner

Hello.  I've read through a couple of threads on here dealing with making a game of pong in LabView, but in them the users had questions with far more complex aspects of the program than I want to deal with.  I am a beginner programmer in LabView with limited experience in Java and Visual Basic programming.  I was tasked with creating a game over winter break, and now that I finally have some time (this weekend that is), I decided that I'd make a really simple game of pong.  However, I have seriously overestimated the difficulty of this for a beginner who has very limited knowledge of Lab View.
I ask you to please have some patience with me.
I know what I want to do, and just need help inplementing it.
Here is the idea for my design to keep it as simple as possible:
-Create a field (I am not sure what to use for this, but from my reading it appears that some sort of a picture output is needed, but I cannot find that anywhere).
-Set up some simple function that can output the dimensions of this field to use with collision tracking.
-Create a ball that can be tracked by the program.
-From my reading I understand that the simplest way to "bounce" the ball off the sides appears to simply reverse the X velocity of the ball when it strikes the vertical boundaries and the Y velocity when it strikes the horizontal boundaries.
-Insert some sort of a "paddle" that the user can control with the left and right arrow keys.
Now, as I have mentioned I am a beginner with approximately one month maximum knowledge of this software, spread over about a year.  I want to take things slow.  So for starters, would anyone be willing to walk me through creating a visual output for this and creating a ball that will bounce off all sides?
If I can at least get that far for now, then I can move on (with help I hope!) of inserting an interactive interface for the "paddle."
I have found some LabView code for a simple game like this, but it also includes a score keeping loop as well as an "automatic play" option, and I am attempting to wade through all that code to find the bones of it to help me with this, but due to my inexperience, this might thake a lot of time.
I thank you for any and all help anyone may be able to provide.

    EchoWolf wrote:

Wel, there is the picture indicator in the picture palette. In newer versions it's called "2D picture". The palettes have a search function. Using the palette search function is a basic LabVIEW skill that you should know. If you've seen the example for the other discussion, it uses a 2D boolean array indicator. The boolean array is only recommended for a monochrome very low resolution display.
EchoWolf wrote: -Set up some simple function that can output the dimensions of this field to use with collision tracking.

That seems backwards. Properly programmed, the code always knows the dimension and the ball position. The program generates, (not tracks!) the ball movement. Of course you need to do some range checking on the ball position to see when it collides with the walls.
    EchoWolf wrote:

Of course you could make it more realistic by keeping track of three ball parameters: x, y, spin.
    EchoWolf wrote:

Pong is typically played with the up-down arrow keys.

LabVIEW knowledge is not measured in time units. What did you do during that month? Did you attend some lectures, study tutorials, wrote some programs?

Start with the posted example and delete all the controls and indicators that you don't want, then surgically remove all code with broken wires.
Alternatively, start from scratch: Create your playing field. Easiest would be a 2D classic boolean array that is all false. Use initialize array to make it once. Now use a loop to show the ball as a function of time.
Start with a random ball position. to display it, turn one of the array elements true before wiring to the array indicator using replace array subset.
Keep a shift register with xy positions and xy velocities and update the positions as a function of the velocities with each iteration of the loop. Do range checking and reverse the velocieis when a edge is encountered.

  • UDP Sender and Receiver.

Hi! I want to know if it is possible to convert the file UDPSender.java into a method that can be called by clicking a button? I slightly modified the UDPReceiver.java for it to be listening indefinitely and UDPSender.java I found on the net. And I created a what is supposedly my main file called Button.java.
What I want to do is that for this Button.java which only has a button when clicked is supposed to do a UDPSender. But I have no idea how to do it. Hope someone can answer this.

    You could call UDPSender.main(new String[0])

  • UDP sending 2048bytes on Network

Hi, I am using LabVIEW 6i. I am trying to send 2048bytes of data to another PC in the Network using UDP. And I have modified the example programs given with LabVIEW i.e.
UDP_Sender.vi and UDP_Receiver.vi etc to send and receive 2048bytes but it is not getting any data. I heard that there may be chances of losing data in UDP but here it is not
getting any of the data at all.
Here with I have attached both the VIs. I tried to send data in sender vi with 1ms wait in loop. And tried to receive 10ms wait and 10ms of timeout on receiver even than it is not getting any data. I tried 1ms on both the side but not succeeded.
Here we want to find out, what is the maximum data LabVIEW can send to other PC using UDP and practically how much time require to receive sent data.
Is there anybody who can guige me please? Anybody know anyway to do this thing!

Though it sounds like you might have already been warned, let me reiterate: Unless you are going to create a protocol yourself that addresses UDP's short coming, sending data using UDP is a very, very bad idea. This protocol is very fast but the reason for its speed is that it implements NO error correction or any sort of data verification. For example, if a packet comes up missing you'll never know it. If packets come out of order due to varied routing paths, you'll never know it. If a packet is corrupted, you'll never know it.
