A reminder for posting in For Beginners

This is a post from GameDev.net by Michalson, a staff member. This post always appears as one of the first posts on their newbie forum. Any thoughts about our needs?
This forum is for beginners ("newbies") to ask questions without being slapped around because someone more experienced decides they should already know the answer. If you want to make a reply ask yourself:
- Am I being helpful? (Yes)
- Am I guiding them in the right direction if they are misguided? (Yes)
- Am I taunting them, flaming them or insulting them because they didn't know the answer, didn't know the supporting material or just seemed lost? (NO!)
People who abuse the purpose of this forum will be punished - warning level increases, suspensions and in the case of sysmatic flaming, bans will be handed out for all offenses. There will be no discussion as to the merit of your post - excuses of posts being a joke, or that the poster deserved it will fall on deaf ears.

Regarding treatment of newbies, ettiquettes, and moderation - yes, these are not moderated forums. We, the community, in essence are policing ourselves.
I do see a degradation of the quality of newbie posting, some may be attributed
to language or cultural differences. Some of them deserve strong suggestions
when continuing asking for fully written code despite pointers and suggestions.
So, can we, the experienced ones, do better? Perhaps -
- gentle reminder of posting ettiquttes
- give constructive feedback & pointers, rather than "read the book" type of
comments
- in the event of repeat offenses, click the "Report Abuse" link, that thread will
get removed
- do NOT feed the frenzy by piling on the flames. We can all read the
sequential postings; if a flame has been posted then we should all move
on to more productive conversation.
The quality and quantity of participation will determine the longevity of
these forums. I think we all have responsibility in the upkeep if we want
to continue receiving the benefits.

DVD start menus and books for beginners

I would like to make a custom start menu using a jpg graphic and my own music. It would just have 2 options start video and scene selection.
I was fumbling around with PE11 yesterday and did it by accident. I added the picture and then added the audio with drag and drop....but when I tried to do it again, I could not remember what I selected.
Also is there a good book for beginners?

Pending further information, this is what I came up with using
Premiere Elements 11 Windows
General/Grid
and its matrix_pal_s_mm.psd (for main menu) and its matrix_pal_s_sm.psd (for scene menu)
My Photoshop Elements is presently not allowing me to open the Photoshop Layer Sets in the .psd files, so I picked the above theme so I could get around having to do that.
This is the first try result

I tried it out in a DVD-VIDEO standard on DVD, and it did not look that bad.
My advice is to look at the theme as is to see what it is all about, and, if interested in getting a look like above, I will give you the step by step. But, you will need Photoshop Elements or Photoshop for the background exchanges. I did not find a theme where I could get a clean enough background replacement with just the customization within the Movie Theme section of the program. Again, Photoshop Elements that will not open the Layers Sets is OK in this instance since we are not opening any Layers Sets, we are just replacing backgrounds at the .psd level rather than within the project.
If interested, I will post further details which should be quick and easy to follow.

Lightroom VS Photoshop Elements for Beginners

Hey Everyone!
I am creating a website for beginners on computers and other home electronics and I am going to do a post about what the best program is to get for a beginner at photo editing. I have seen so many people using Photoshop Elements to start out with but many people who have gotten editing programs prefer Lightroom and use it and say its a better program to begin with... Do you have any suggestions on which I should tell poeple to go with? They each have strength and weaknesses. LR for example has the same full RAW processor as full Photoshop, but doesn't have the full range of image editing features.
There isn't a simple answer. I think you would be better off reviewing both and pointing out the differences so that your blog audience can make an informed decision for themselves.

Someone please point me to MENU BUILDING video for BEGINNERS.

Hi. I have tried watching dozens of videos, but keep gettinglost as the video assumes you are at least intermediate or better. Example...

Is there a series of videos for BEGINNERS? People who know NOTHING?
What I need is to create a very simple menu where I have three videos to choose from and you can click and choose.
Best thing for me to do is give you this example here. The three boxes would each signify the videos.
So again, each of those three pics would be the button to press to get to the corresponding video. I've been trying on and off for almost a year and have never been successful at this. TEXT explanations do not help. They are long winded and being dyslexic, I end up seeing gibberish. I need video tutorials.

I haven't read through your post but it's still marked at unanswered; this video goes through a 'motion' menu but it's very well done by an "Adobe Embasidor" easy to fallow and understand it has three parts to completion and includes most information you may need check it out it may help.

Looks like a great idea. Content and pace ideal. If the rest lives up to this promise, it'll be one of best KN resources around, and likely become a model for other apps, as well. Now, the only question is how to get those who need it the most to actually use it. That's something that we, on these forums, can encourage, and refer to often. I suspect that'll be the case, because a film like this is often so much better than 1,000 words.

You can spool the SQL to a file using dedicated client by including the /s switch in your dedicated client link. However, I advise that it is better to just view the siebel dedicated client log file as the siebel log file will contain not only the SQL spool but also the Event Context and other useful information as to what Siebel is doing. You need to ensure that the SIEBEL_LOG_EVENTS environment variable is set to 4 on your local machine to get this information.
In the Siebel log file, the following text will precede the SQL spool associated with a business component:
Begin: Execute SqlObj '[bc_name]'
Where [bc_name] = The name of the business component
There can exist multiple SQL statements associated with instantiating a business component. The first SQL statement is the main core SQL query to instantiate the business component. Then any additional SQL statements exist associated to multi value links that have not got the Use Primary Join set. Also additional SQL statements are generated through calculated fields that perform counts on multi value fields.
The main SQL statement is generated based on the configuration of the business component as such:
1. The primary table of the business component will be listed last in the FROM clause. For example, the Action business component would have the S_EVT_ACT table as the last table in the FROM clause.
2. Any fields exposed through the UI will be included in the SQL. If the field is a join, then the join will automatically be included in the SQL. If the field is a MVF where the MVL uses primary join then the join will be included in the SQL.
3. Any fields that have Force Active = Y, Immediate Post Changes = Y or Link Specification = Y or Required = Y will be included in the SQL even if these fields are not rendered through the UI.
4. Any calculated fields that use InvokeServiceMethod to invoke a business service would result in additional SQL statements for any queries that are performed within the business service called.
5. The search specification of the business component will be incorporated into the WHERE clause of the SQL statement. If the user performs a a query through the UI then this would be applied to the SQL WHERE clause also.
6. The sort specification of the business component will be included in the SQL in the ORDER BY clause.
7. The business component view mode will be incorporated into the SQL depending on the view mode applied.
8. Siebel Tools does not always show all joins used by a business component - these are vanilla joins. For example the Contact BC, when the SQL is spooled this shows joins to S_CONTACT_SS and S_CONTACT_BU which are not configured in Siebel Tools but exist by default associated to the Contact BC.
9. For any joins configured in Siebel Tools, if the Outer Join Flag = Y then the join will be shown in the SQL spool as an outer join. The join will be shown as an inner join if the Outer Join Flag != Y.

How do I set a reminder for the last day of every month

Have I missed something? But how do you set a reminder for the last day of every month to recurr indefinatley in iOS6? Sorry if this is really simple but I just can't seem to work it out. Any help gratefully received.

Hey Mattye88 not sure if you have seen but actully you can do this, but for some reason you have to use Siri. If you bring up Siri and say "set a reminder ever 4 weeks from next wednesday to check the gas meter" it will set one and it will work just fine, I have reminders to water a Bonsai every three days and it works fine it just shows as custom repeat on the user interface. Alas it seems you can not use Siri to set one for the end of the month though which is why I am in this threed. Still hope it helps you to know how to sort this problem atleast.

Is there any way to create a reminder for "today" in the new Reminders app? I used to be able to pull up the "today" list and add things that would go to my default list but automatically show up for today but now it looks as though that option is gone. Additionally, any way to get dates/times to show up with reminders in the Notification Center?

Thanks for the question. From the information you provided, it sounds like you might be looking for the "Scheduled" view. This view will show all of your reminders that are scheduled in a list. To access the schedule view, click the icon:

Hello,
The XSD you are using is from Data Type and you are using it for mapping.
Instead export XSD for Message Type and also pass the XML schema for source that will solve the issue and your XSLT will be generated.

Firefox does not have a contact list. Any contact list that you have will be part of the email service that you are using, you will need to check with the support for that email service to see if they offer such a feature.

How do I add a reminder for a furure date in my reminder? I can't find a calendar anywhere in reminder so that I can select a date and then type my reminder.

To do it manually, tap a blank line in the reminder app, enter a title, then tap the 'I' beside it to edit the entry with a date and time. Or, set up a reminder with Siri.

Can I set a reminder for when I arrive in a city?

Here's the problem...We were driving several hours back home and I figured it would be helpful to set a reminder to perform an errand when we got back to the city. So I asked Siri and she wasn't having any of it. I figured she just was being glitchy. So I tried to manually set a reminder for when I arrived in the city.
i.e. Remind me to pick up the dry cleaning when we get to Portland, Oregon.
But it turns out, as far as I can tell, you can only use locations in your address book for Arrive/Depart reminders. So I can ask it to remind me when I get to my house or to a specific address, but not when I get into the city...

By "path", I assume you mean "classpath".
The simplest way is simply to include the jars you need inside the web application or web module's WEB-INF/lib directory, EJB module's META-INF/lib directory, or EAR lib directory.
If that's not practical, if you use NodeManager to start your servers, you can go to the "Server Start" tab in the server definition in the WebLogic console and edit the "Classpath" field, which defaults to no value. You can specify a classpath value there. Note that if you specify a value there, it REPLACES the default classpath for the server, it doesn't add to it. If you need to just add to it (a much more likely scenario), if the value references the value "$CLASSPATH" in it, that will reference the original classpath value that the server would have had.
So, for instance, if you wanted to include the MQ jars in the server classpath, you could set a value like this:
/usr/java/mq/lib/mq.jar:/usr/java/mq/lib/mqstuff.jar:$CLASSPATH
