A required input parameter could not be read

Hi
I'm experiencing a random problem with my e-mail account. Before moving everybody into using this mail server, I believe I should understand how to fix this problem. Here I go. Last Friday, everything was working properly with my e-mails. However, this morning, I cannot connect to the mail server anymore (using SSL and Kerberos). I looked at the logs and this is what I see:
Jan 18 08:47:43 xs1 dovecot[68]: auth(default): gssapi(?,192.168.0.170): While processing incoming data: A required input parameter could not be read

Anyone ever had this "unknown error”? Is there a known way to fix it?
Thanks

Apparently the problem changed:

Any idea about that issue too ?

  • Error: File just captured could not be read and was deleted after capture.

I was just recording an extremely important interview. I have recorded literally 10.000 recordings before with the same setup, every day, over a period of some three years now. I'm recorging DV PAL through SDI input on a AJA KONA LS card.
It seemed to be going well last night while recording but as soon as I pressed 'Esc' to end the capture I got an error message saying (not exactly in these words) : Error: The file just captured could not be read.
The file couldn't be found anywhere on the HD or in the trash. Usually when something goes wrong during capture, you can find the file in the capture folder named 'filename-av'. Not this time, I have never seen this error message before.
The person being interviewed was absolutely furious and said he would not do the interview again. So I'm up against the wall here, and need to recover the files.
What's more, the problem still persists. When I try capturing again, as soon as I stop the same error occurs. So now my FCP is not capturing anymore
I tried running Data Rescue 3.1 and found the recording in deleted files, but:
    1. the recording is in several parts (not sure if it's all there, but probably most of it)
    2. Data Rescue 3 interprets the files as .dv files, as opposed to .mov files as all my other recorded material.
    3. THERE IS NO AUDIO IN THE .DV FILES, which pretty much nullifies the file recovery altogether.
I tried googling this error, but it did not help much:
    1. None of the people were capturing the same way I do (most were capturing from tape, none straight through KONA SDI input)
    2. There was no solution to prevent the error.
    3. No solution to recover the files either.
I must say, this experience really taught me the essence of Murphy's law: 'Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong at the worst possible moment'
Any suggestions as to the reasons for this?
Any suggestions as to how the files can be recovered?

    Good news!
I beleive I have found the cause and solution.   At least now I am able to reproduce the problem at will and therefore, hopefully prevent it.
I discovered that there is nothing wrong with my AJA KONA setup, as I was able to capture with both QuickTime movie capture and Adobe Premier just fine.  But every time I try capturing in FCP I get unreadable capture files (since 2 days ago).
Trying all possible capture settings, capture presets or easy setups did nothing.  (although capturing thru Firewire still works every time).
I was about to give up when I noticed that where I usually have my video scopes window running, for convenience sake, under it the Voiceover utility was running.
So here is the deal:  Usually when you try and capture with the Voiceover utility running, you can't. FCP wont allow you to capture, it will return an error message saying: 'Log and capture can not be opened while Voice Over is running. Please close Voice Over and try again.'  As it turns out, this warning is probably for a good reason.
    BUT...
If you shut down FCP with Voice Over running and start it up again THEN you CAN run Log and Capture at the same time... everything looks OK, until you stop the recordin, then you get an error message saying your recording is screwed.
I tried this over and over again,  every time it behaves the same way.  Shutting down with VO util>starting up again>recordings get screwed  .. close VO utility>back to normal operation.
I'm not sure if it was the VO utility the last time this happened (few weeks back), but it might very well be.  I might not have noticed that the VO utility was running as it was hidden behind the videoscopes and there are no warnings when running Log and Capture if you start up FCP with VO utility still running.
My educated guess to what is going on is that the VO utility is taking up priority over the sound inputs and by doing so making the audio of the capture unreadable.  This theory is supported by the fact that when my data recovering experts found the recordings on the HD, there was no audio on the files, but the video was intact.
The only reason setting up the AJA drivers helped in the past was probably because that flushed the FCP settings and in doing so closed the VO utility window. How very ironic
Hope this helps someone out there. And I hope Apple find a way to prevent this from happening.
    cheers!

  • I tunes: when trying to burn a playlist I keep getting the message: the attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to. I am using version 12

I tunes: I am using version 12 of I tunes. Ever since downloading it I get the message when trying to burn a playlist it says, The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to.
I uninstalled V-12 and then reinstalled it. This enabled me to burn a disc again but after a couple of tries I received the same error message again. Has Apple put out a fix to this problem that anyone is aware of?
    Thanks.

    Hi rossfrombluffton,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some general things to consider when burning a disc with iTunes.  I would also try burning a music CD and a data disc from a different application in the Windows OS and trying a different brand CD just to confirm the issue is not with the optical drive.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT203173
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and choose Edit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.Additional steps and submitting feedback

  • Pages document "could not be read" bc. it "does not have a valid format"

The document in question was properly saved and Pages was not open when my computer hung as it was shutting down. MS Word would not quit or force-quit and I had to hard restart the computer. When I later tried to open this Pages document, which I had been working on before Word froze, Page would not open it and responded with the error message: "This document "document_name.pages" could not be read. This document does not have a valid format." When I looked at the document in question I noticed that its file size was 0KB. I have no idea why this happened, but I suppose it has to do with my computer not shutting down properly and perhaps with Word freezing. If I repair my drive permission, re-index it, anything, will it help? Just a note on the status of this machine: spotlight stopped working earlier this morning and I was waiting to finish this document before repairing disk permissions and trying to fix that issue with Spotlight.
In the meantime I have tried various fixes. First I tried to change the file ending to .zip, unpack it and open it. Then the same, but this time I tried to view package contents. It doesn't show up in the contextual menu as even having a package to show the contents of. The file is effectively empty, but I don't know where the contents went! The funny thing is that the MS Word doc was recovered automatically. Is it possible that Pages doesn't have an auto-recovery mechanism?
I need this file urgently, or at least the text in it. It is the bibliography of an important paper due tomorrow at 5 pm.Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I have used a file-recovery program in the past. It is called "Stellar Phoenix" and it worked wonderfully to find a Word doc that I accidentally deleted. It can't find .pages document though. In order to do so, I would need to tell the program what the average file size is, as well as the header information as follows. "Header (in hexadecimal)" "At Offset (in decimal)". I have no idea what this means, but if I could insert it, perhaps it could find the lost data. Should I have it search for .pages, .zip, .xml? I'm at a loss, but I know that it doesn't recognize .pages. In the meantime, I sent a support email to them and will see what happens.
    Thank you for your help.
    David

    I can't respond before.
When the system say that your file size is 0KB, it means that nothing was saved. Only a file descripto exists.
So, there is nothing to recover.
Given the time the system crashed, you may have :
    (1) a simple descriptor with nothing written
    (2) a folder with every or only some of the required files.
In this case, Phoenix is useless : it's unable to revive a folder.
    (3) a flatfile (a compressed version of the folder named above). It's only this kind of file which Phoenix may revive.
With a bit of luck, Phoenix would be able to revive the index.xml file which was in the original folder created in the temporary folder.
    This file starts with :
    <?xml version="1.0"?><sl:document xmlns:sfa="http://developer.apple.com/namespaces/sfa"
    or
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <sl:document xmlns:sfa="http://developer.apple.com/namespaces/sfa"
The minimal size for a Pages index.xml file is : 520038 bytes.
If you retrieve the index.xml file, we may try to rebuild an usable package.
Ask the recovery tool to transfer the recovered file on an other media.
If the document embedded pictures, the index will give their path and their size which may be useful to recover them.

  • Using LabVIEW 6.0.1 in Win2K, I get the Application Error: The instruction at "0x004be060" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "read".

I have several VIs that use the same typedef. This "super" typedef consists of of a cluster containing 6 arrays. Each array has elements that are themselves typedefs. The array element typedefs consist of a cluster of strings, a string array, and yet another cluster typedef of instrument handles. The total number of unique typedefs is 13 (1 super, 1 as the array element in the 6 arrays, and 1 in each array element).
When I make any changes to any of these typedefs and I try to open a VI that uses the "super" typedef, LabVIEW stops loading subVIs and crashes with the Application Error: Application Error: The inst
ruction at "0x004be060" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "read". Also note that this VI contains several subVIs that use this "super" typedef for terminal inputs and outputs.
What is causing this problem? My only solution to this is to rename the "super" typedef, open the VI, ignoring the load of the "super" typedef, and once the VI opens (with a broken arrow) relinking the VI to the typdef after renaming the typedef back to the original name. This becomes quite painful when you have to do this for each and every VI that uses this typedef on every revision of the typedef.

You might want to first install the 6.0.2 patch before digging too far into this. You can download it from the ftp site:
    ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/labview/windows/updates/6.0.2/
If the problem remains, then it is likely related to a few known issues with strict type defs. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done about it at the present time. You might try having the *.ctl file open in the editor when you open the VIs to see if that helps.

  • Error in workflow: Cannot complete action: Activity could not be read

    Hi All,
We have a process with 2 blocks in sequence. (1) Sequential Block and (2) Parallel Block.
    (1) Sequential Block

    (2) Parallel Block
    a11 || a22 || a33 || a44
I need to go from A2 to parallel block execution.

But it ends with error. "Cannot complete action: Activity could not be read."
Has anybody faced similar kind of problem?
Any pointer to this will be much appreciated.

  • Upon exiting LV7: Application Error-Memory could not be read.

Upon terminating my application, I get the following error:
    "LavVIEW: LabVIEW.exe - Application Error
The instruction at referenced memory at . The memory could not be 'read'."
So far the error seems non-critical. It does not appear to affect the performance of the program in any way. However, it is certainly unnerving for my end users (not to mention me)!
The error occurs in both the executable and the debugging mode. I have traced it to the VERY END of my application, which runs flawlessly until the very moment when I use the Exit instruction. I have also tried using Close FP with Abort VI, as well as Close FP with Exit. All threads in my application have successful
ly terminated, so aborting does not stop any action in mid-execution, as far as I am aware.
Searching for others in the forum who have had similar problems has turned up little useful help. Could this be a bug in the (god forbid!) runtime engine?!
Here's a link to a discussion of the closest thing I could find to my problem.
Thanks for any help you can give. Any whatsoever.

    To h
elp track it down, if you can build a debugging version of the
Delphi DLLs, especially something that will validate memory references.
One of the great tools for tracking down memory overwrites is a well
implemented debugging memory library. Also, if you have some notion of
DLL calls that write to the string and return it to LV, that would be
the first place to look. And in the end, the solution is usually to
look at the assumption of the DLL and send in a larger preallocated
string. So in some cases it is easiest to look for the strings and
arrays going into DLL node calls and one at a time give them large input
sizes looking for the closing crash to go away. Then when the symptom
goes away, look at the code for that DLL.

    Hi AndreasC,
This error message occurs when LabVIEW memory space goes corrupt and is often due a DLL or CIN code.
There can be two reasons for this:
    1. Try removing all DLL calls in your code and see if it works. Most of the time, the corruption is traced to a call to a DLL function that has incorrectly passed inputs to the Call Library Function node, often by passing an uninitialized string or array, or by writing past the bounds of the string or array in the DLL function. Some DLL functions assume that a string buffer is presized to 256 bytes, 1 KB, or some other size. If a smaller sized string buffer is passed, the DLL can write past the buffer and corrupt the dataspace that follows.
    2. This error can also be caused when running a LabVIEW built executable. If the VI calls a WinAPI DLL function and uses the full path to the DLL in the Call Library Function Node, the LabVIEW Application Builder will create a copy of the DLL in the data directory of the executable. Some DLLs such as WinAPI DLLs should only reside in one location, such as C:\WINDOWS\system32, otherwise errors/crashes can occur when called. To prevent this, remove the DLL path in the Call Library Function Node when calling WinAPI DLLs.
Some users have faced similar problems and the above solutions have worked for them.

  • Installer LV7.1 - LabVIEW load error code 21: An external subroutine required for execution could not be found.

    Bonjour,
load error code 21: An external subroutine required for execution could not be found.
    L'intégration du Run time Engine

  • Fix Application Error Msg Instruction 0x79c11389 ref memory 0x00000010 could not be read OK termnat

Why am I getting this Application Error Message:
The instruction at "0x79c11389" reference memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be read.  Click on OK to terminate the program.
This problem started fairly recently, with XP operating system.  The error seems to be connected in some way to Internet Explorer.  It happens when I use Word or Excel (and other programs) and also use Internet Explorer.  As a process-of-elimination test, I downloaded another browser and when using that browser the error message does not appear.  I would like to continue using Internet Explorer, if possible, because some of my programs prefer/support Internet Explorer.
I have seen some posts suggesting "reseating memory hardware" and/or using a "registry cleaner".  This does not seem to be a correct fix, in my case, since the problem does not occur with the other browser.
Been continually searching, but with no luck yet.  Would appreciate input anc shared experiences with this.

The thing about the registry is that it's not universal.  If a program's registry key is corrupted or not working properly, then only the program linked to that registry will exhibit symptoms.  However, the RAM may be at fault.  RAM errors can happen randomly or appear to indicate a different issue altogether.
This guide details how to test RAM using memtest86.  Memtest86 can be found here.  I recommend 8-10 passes of the test to get a good RAM test.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Instruction could not be read.

I am at a loss here, I can not launch LabVIEW any more. I keep getting this error message.
    LabVIEW:LabVIEW.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x005055a7" referenced memory at "0x09d61000". The memory could not be "read".
This problem did not start happening until I took out a MXI-3 controller, I didn't pull it out hot. I spent the day Friday uninstalling LabVIEW first, didn't fix it. Then I unistalled all of NI software on my machine. Didn't fix it. I spent Monday having my IT department wipe my machine clean and reimage it. That didn't fix it. I even replaced the memory in my machine. That still hasn't fixed it. I don't get any other errors running a different app, like Lotus notes or Microsoft office.
Has anyone seen this before and help me out?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben
    System specs:
    P4 2.8GHz
    512M mem
clean load of Windows 2000 SP4
Only other software loaded currently is MS office 2000 and Lotus Notes.

I copied all of my VI's out of the user.lib and everything worked fine. I then started to copy back my most recent VI's to see if they were the ones causing the problems. They all worked fine. I then started to copy blocks of 5 to 10 vi's at a time, there are a lot of them. With each block that I moved I would launch LabVIEW to see if the problem was still there. I could not get LabVIEW to crash again after I moved all the VI's back into the user.lib folder. I am not sure why. There are several different projects over the years and some of them have used CIN. The drivers for the Tektronix TDS 7404 is built around one DLL and they use CIN's for everything. I have not done anything requiring a call to a DLL so the drivers from Tektronix are the only ones that I know of. That hasn't crashed either.
As for the number of VI's I have no idea. There is over four years of work there, when I use the Find VI's tool it reports back 8960 VI's in the user.lib folder. Is this the wrong place to store code?
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Cannot sync, error message "could not be read" for an iPod no longer in use

I have two problems. I upgraded iTunes to 7.2 and the very next morning my iPod died. It is completely unresponsive. Maybe it's coincidental. So I bought a new 80 gig iPod and gave it a different name than the old dead iPod. Now when I try to sync the new iPod, it goes for about 10 minutes, then it fails with this message:
Attempting to copy to the disk "old iPod name" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
It is complaining that it can not read the old dead iPod that is NOT hooked up to the computer! Somehow, minutes into syncing, iTunes has forgotten which iPod it is looking at. I have seen the article about the "cannont be read" message and it is not relevant. I need to make iTunes forget about the old dead iPod so it will stop looking for it. I've tried removing the files from "Documents and Settings" but iTunes still remembers the old unit. Where else does it store information? Any recommendations?

Okay, that can sometimes be caused by a Windows drive letter confusion. For troubleshooting advice on that possibility, see the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
