Why is Firefox continuing to run after I shut down the internet connection?

I am having a problem with Firefox not shutting down. I shut down the internet, then go back on later and I get an error message that Firefox is already running and that I will need to reboot my system to clear the problem. I am running Firefox 3.6.17 on Windows Xp with sp3. I tried running Firefox 4.0 and it just did not run at all so I went back to the previous version.

Hanging at exit is usually caused by and Extension or Plugin.
Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox.

My browser has been closed all night and in the morning I get an error saying that Firefox is still running and I need to shut it donw. Why is this?

I close the browser and it does not matter how much time elapses it still says that Firefox is running. I am told to close Firefox before I can open another session. I hit ctrl+alt+del to pull the task manager and it does not show any Firefox applications.

I have a T43 2668-43u, It came with Windows XP Pro. I have just installed a fresh non-oem copy of Windows XP Home, did all the updates w/service pack 3, installed all the driver and everything works well.......Now here is my problem, when the ac adapter is plugged in it turns off and on fine, when you unplug the ac even when it is already shutting down it automatically restarts.....any time you run from the battery it will not shut down......It says windows is now shutting down and does, fan, hd, lcd everything goes off for about 3-5sec then powers back on. The only way to get it to shut down when using a battery is to hold the power button in and force it to power off, if not it just restarts.....any help would be greatly appreciated..... I am slamming my head into the wall at this point.......

My experience is that similar behaviour occures when one has an incorrect or missing graphics driver, but let's start somewhere else...have you downloaded the support for the Intel chipset?

How can I download Firefox 4.o to upgrade from Firefox 3.6.16, if after following all instructions the 2-minute download process is completed, but the download window is empty, and Version 4.0 is not installed?

A pop-up box in the lower right corner of the screen says the download is complete. But a search of the entire hard drive does not locate the files. I've tried restarting Firefox, restarting Windows---and even shutting down and restarting the computer---after each attempt at downloading, with no different results. I've also tried disabling other programs like V-Tuner and Eudora before downloading. I have no trouble downloading other files, including my original installation of Firefox plus the upgrades. My current version of Firefox (3.6.16) is still working just fine; I tried to upgrade only because 4.0 was announced on-screen today, and I thought I might as well have the latest thing. My operating system is Windows 2000, which I see listed as compatible.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.

Macbook has to restart when i plug in a usb item

ok today while studying a friend plugged in his ipod to get note off it for class well he plugged it in and the computer showed a screen and said "computer must be restarted with restart button or powering down the computer" i can't click anything and i must hold down the power button to turn it off and then turn it back on. then thought it was just his ipod so i go home to plug in my printer to my usb connector well same thing happened again so i tried keeping my usb printer plugged in while powering it on but that doesnt work the message just shows up before my mac fully powers on. so what do i need to do or what happened

Thanks for your reply. After four very lengthy tech support chat sessions, the last tech support person (30 July, 2013) suggested that it was probably some sort of conflict with the drivers for the USB ports on my Dell computer. The case number you requested is still open and is: 0184509373.
I spent a lot of time during the last tech chat trying to determine a graceful way to quit the application before using any USB devices. Just clicking on the X to close the window does not close the application as it still shows up as an active process in Windows Task Manager. Our conversation kept getting confused between the Creative Cloud application and the more global Creative Cloud and which you were quitting or logging out of. Adobe should have kept the name “Application Manager” for the application.
After experimenting, I’ve devised the following work around. It’s a nuisance, but it seems to work a little better than just crashing the application. I open the Creative Cloud desktop application and choose “Quit Creative Cloud.” I can then use a USB device without a crash. After disconnecting the USB device, I restart the Creative Cloud application by double clicking on the icon on my desktop. Finally, I can use Photoshop CC and Bridge. If I don’t restart the Creative Cloud application first, Photoshop asks me to register the software again. This puzzles me as I didn’t think the Creative Cloud application had to be running in order to use Photoshop.

Why does Firefox try to open PDF with Acrobat 8 when I have Properties set to use Reader 9.1?

If I click a link to a PDF from Firefox 3.6.10 it tries to open it with Acrobat 8 and fails, while if I double-click in a folder it correctly opens with Reader 9.1
If I try to open with Acrobat 8 from folder it won't work either, but why doesn't Firefox use the default program?

Go to Tools|Options|Applications. The first 4 entries relate to Adobe. Make sure that the association is for your 9.1 version. If it's not, click the association that is showing. You will get a downward pointing triangle at the right. Click on it and see if 9.1 is listed. If so, select it. Do the same for the other Adobe items.
You might also want to check "Folder Options" in the Windows Control Panel. In the "File Types" tab you will find all of the file extensions and the programs they are associated with. Scroll down to the PDF extension and insure it's associated with an "Adobe Acrobat Document. If not, click on the <change> button and find adobe in the program list.
Just to let you know, Adobe Reader is now up to version 9.4. You can go to Adobe's website to download the latest.

Firefox won't load pages after a while when viewing tumblr.

In both versions 6 and 7 if I'm looking at Tumblr or any site that has any java or flash, after a few minutes pages will not load. I've disabled all add-ons and plug-ins but the behavior is the same. I've reverted to using version 5.0 and everything works fine.

My Google Bookmarks says that my browser is offline and won't let me save the page but the Firefox booksmarks will let me save it.

I also can't download you-tube videos like I used to. When I hover on the picture, the "download" box does not show up but it does give me the option to stop download. I just changed to Shaw internet.

Did anything happen to the computer? It appears that you are trying to sync to another iTunes library since in that case you can only sync with one iTunes library.
