A review and some info on the new iPod Video

Folks,
I just got mine yesterday (60gb). It is fantastic. I have nothing bad to say. I loaded all my music, pictures and calendar data. I bought a TV show, downloaded a free Video Podcast, bought a Pixar short video, and a Music video. The quality of the picture is nothing short of amazing. Everyone who sees it is very impressed. I have a whole row of folks where I work that have one iPod or another, and they all needed their drool-cups changed while looking at this new addition from Apple. Well done Steve!

Thanx RJ,
I have noticed the same thing. No different from any other discussion group. But you take the bad with the good, right? Anyway, I DO love my new 5G, and I know there are so many of us out there that are really curious about the new iPod. Isn't that what any company wants? Buzz about their new product? Good buzz about the 5G is well deserved, regardless of any short comings. I have been having SOME difficulty understanding what is appropriate and NOT appropriate to say in this discussion group. I got slammed once already, and am not sure why. So, I hope my track-record gets better.

  • Some Feedback on the New iPod Nano

    Hey!
I really would like to get the new ipod Nano. I have never had an iPod before. I have been reading a lot of websites, forum posts here and MacRumors, iLounge, Cnet, as many places on the web as I could find that seemed to have credible info on the new iPods. I think the Touch is too difficult for my non-techie brain to handle and the shuffle does not have the FM Tuner. I read some good things about the Nano, mostly from exercisers, which is why I am buying it. But, I read more negative posts about the iPod Nano from people calling it a major mistake, a waste of money, etc. So after reading all the negative stuff about it I wanted to find out if this stuff is true, just due to the new Nano being so different then the previous Nano or what.
There seemed to be a lot of people bringing them back since they could not turn it off, but in my research it appears the Nano does not "turn off" per se but if done right it will sleep and not use hardly any battery power. There has been some complaints about the ear phone jack not inserting tight enough so it moves around and causes some crackling noise when using the ear phones. I would be getting some higher-end ear phones, but not sure if that would help or affect the antenna component that is in the ear phone cord of the Apple ear phones that come with the Nano.
I read some good things about it too. I was disappointed when I read that you can't sort the music into certain genre tunes or various exercise music according to beats per min once it is transferred to the Nano. I have no idea if this is true, what is true but really is not a big deal for a person using it for exercise.
I read from a lot of posts that this was a big mistake on Apple's part. I listened to the Nano at the Apple Store, it sounded OK to me. I have not seen any cases for it to keep the sweat off of it and when I do exercise, especially run and bike, I sweat like a pig--oh, pigs do not sweat.
Any feedback about all of these kinds of rumors or facts? Anybody care to share with me with their experience? Any opinions on the ear phone that come with the Nano or the Apple in the ear phones. Also, is it necessary to get the USB (white) charge adapter the iPhone uses for this ipod? I hear it can be plugged into the computer but if it sleeps it does not charge it. I have no idea how long it takes for an empty battery to fully charge.
I was also wondering what the 30 pin adaptor or the adaptor that comes with the Nano, is for. Is that to hook up to a dock?
Thanks for any opinions, thoughts, suggestions that anybody wants to share with me.

Feedback from individuals is neither rumor nor fact. It's just their opinion. How much credence to give the opinions of people you don't know is always a challenging question. I tend to give less to people who sound like their whining or who obviously have unrealistic expectaions or didn't do their research or won't even try to troubleshoot issues. People who sound reasonable, who give a balanced evaluation (i.e. NOT "This Nano is the worst thing Apple ever made!!!"), I'll pay more attention to.
I have one. I like it. Because of the cold weather and busy season at work, I haven't done much running in the last month. My Nano has been sitting, asleep on my nightstand. Hardly any battery drain. Yes, most computers wont' charge through the USB port if they are asleep. I use mine often enough that I don't have any problem charging my Nano.
Can't answer your questions about sorting by genre as I never do that and I don't have the Nano here with me to look at it. I make playlists based on BPM on my computer. This works for me.
I replace my 3rd gen Shuffle with this Nano. I liked the size of the Shuffle but was never happy with not having a screen. I'd always end up unable to find what I wanted to listen to. With the Nano, I have the benefits of the size, the clip but I can easily find what I want.
In my personal opinion all the headsets Apple ships with iPods are horrible. They are uncomfortable and won't stay in my ears. I throw them away. I have a pair of Etymotic ER6i's that I love. They are in canal, passive noise cancelling headsets that are not that expensive. The fit me. I can sleep in them. They don't fall out when running. There are lots of opinions on headsets.
I sweat a lot when I run. I just don't clip the Nano inside my clothes. Or where sweat from my face would drip on it.
So, I think the Nano works very well for the type of exercise I do. I've been very satisfied.

  • I still have my iPod Nano 3rd generation, but my old computer crashed and I did not have itunes backed up, so I lost my library. Is there a way to get the songs from my old ipod to new computer library and then on to the new ipod?

Save all the photos from your Droid into a folder on your computer.
Connect your device to your computer. On iTunes left Pane, select iPhone under 'Devices'; then on the right Pane, select PHOTO tab.  Make sure Sync Photo box is checked, and "from" box selected the folder that has Droid's photos.  Then click the SYNC or APPLY button on the lower right window.

  • The New iPod Video !!!

I saw the specs for the new iPod Video
but they mentioned the 80g but not the 30g.
Is there any upgraded specs for the new 30g iPod
    rather than the cheaper prize?
I love everything about the new 80g including the increased playtime of songs and videos but the
only thing that i don't like about tis the thickness..
So I hope that the new 30g iPod video has the
    increased playtime to....
Does anyone know about the new specs for the
    new 30g iPod Video??

I finished the test and I get five hours of video playback with the backlight completely dimmed, but its not an ideal setting to be watching movies. So I have the backlight 1/4 as bright. So I should get like 3.5 hours video playback. I called Apple and apparently the new 30GB iPod does have a longer battery life and 60% brighter screen. Would it be worth getting if you are able to return your iPod? I would say "No" especially if you have it open. The restocking fee is 10% of how much you paid for. I paid $288 for my iPod so I would have to pay $28.80 for the restocking fee. So if I did refund it and bought the new 30GB iPod for $249.00 plus the $19.85 tax and also add the restocking fee of $28.80 I would have paid $297.65 compared to the iPod I orignally bought for $288. I'm still going to go to the Apple Store tomorrow and see if I could return it through the Apple Store and see if the restocking fee might get waived, but I doubt it. Its still worth a try since I pass by it coming home from school.

  • Several years ago, I purchased hundreds of dollars worth of music.  Subsequently, the computer I used was stolen and I now have an IPOD Nano.  Isn't there a way for me to access that music I paid for and download it to the new Ipod.

This is a question. As I previously stated, I purchased hundreds of dollars of music for my original IPOD.  It and the computer onto which I downloaded the music have been (for lack of a better term) mislocated or destroyed.  I know own an IPOD Nano.  Isn't there a way for me to retrieve the music I purchased to download onto the new IPOD.  It seems to me that since I paid for it, Itunes should have a record of it and I should still be allowed to access it for a download.

If you are living in the US and using iTunes 10.3 or later you can use the iCloud beta program to redownload your purchases.  See this article for more details.

  • I want to sync a second ipod touch to itunes, however my daughter has some how registered the new ipod  under my sons old one, she has deleted asll content and i have now reset it, how do i stop it being recognised as the old one

my daughters new ipod touch is being recognised as my sons old one on itunes, this has caused the ipod to lock and she has lost all content. i now want to get itunes to recognise her new ipod , but it is still recognising it as the old one, how can i sort this out

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • Serious problems using for the Airports and any devices like the new iPod or iPad 3 after installing Airport

I know this sounds crazy but I recently installed an Airport express and an Airport Extreme, I worked on it for several days and everything seemed to finally working like it should using manual configurations so it is all right as far as function goes. Later on I found out I had to do a restore on my new IPod and the latest iPad. No other changes were made to the system using snow lepoard 10.6. I tried for several days to restore these devices with no explanation of the problem. I could not use wi-fi or cellular to update any of the devices. Don't ask me why but I shut the computer down and removed every usb device except for the wireless key board that came with the latest iMac system. I made sure everything was the latest version of my applications. It did not affect my DSL or connection to the internet. I even removed the thunderbolt cable so I had 1 usb connection to the computer. The system was setup just like it came out of the box. I brought up iTunes and connected the USB cable to the iPad and selected restore. I had used iCloud to back everything up when I first bought the iPad and iPod. I also made sure iOS 6 was installed. I clicked restore and it loaded without any problem in just a few seconds without having to sync anything. I checked when it was done and it worked exactly like it did when I first bought them from Apple. The only strange thing that happened was I purchased a brand new generation iPod from Apple (which was made in China). I had not installed any apps for several weeks and had no problem with them. This seems crazy to me that you would have to reset he computer to it's original setup in order to restore the latest iPad and iPod software and devices. The only item that I did not have any problem with was the iPhone. Has anyone had this problem? If so how did you deal with it. Was it the airports, made in China the new iOS or the new iTunes that is causing this? gillie70

Try a reboot of your ipad. Hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simulataneously. Keep holding, ignoring the red slider, until the Apple logo appears. Release the buttons and let the ipad restart. A reboot often fixes numerous problems.
Also are you aware that by suncing with a different computer it is likely the personal stuff you had on your ipad from your imac will be removed?
The ipad is designed to sync with only one device.

  • In reference to this topic:   Will my Powerbook handle the new ipod video?

In reference to what Chris CA, and shadowsoldier were arguing about (ipod 5th Generation vs. ipod with video) Here is some information that i found on the apple website
October 12, 2005 - The Fifth Generation iPod replaced the iPod with color displays
June 6, 2006 - The iPod U2 Special Edition is introduced, based on the Fifth Generation iPod. The U2 iPod has different exterior (red Click Wheel, U2's signatures engraved on the back) and includes an iTunes Music Store coupon to download 30 minutes of video featuring music and interviews with the band.

    no it isn't
the 5 gen ipod has video capabilities but is not "the" video ipod. its like the nano it supports photos but its not an ipod photo. the "ipod video" is the 6 gen ipod which is coming out this fall. its gonna have a bigger screen made to actually watch movies on it. the 5 gen you can watch movies on it buts not practical for it. its "ipod" it became just the standard ipod. notice that nowhere does apple call it "ipod video"
even on the page you replied with it says "Fifth Generation iPod (also known as iPod with video)" notice ipod with video

  • The new iPod Video, xtra HD?

hi, can I buy a 30GB iPod Video and use it as a backup HD? I need an iPod for portable music, possibly to watch some television DVDs on it, and to store Garageband and SoundStudio files. I might also want to store other files onto it, but currently audio is the only kind of media I use my comp. for. I have lost useful data twice, and don't want to again. I don't want to buy an external HD to backup data, plus I've been hankering for my own mp3 player anyways.
    thnx

    Stan,
The iPod could work as a backup HD, but as long as you don't access it a lot. If you are always adding files to it and making the HD spin a lot, it could shorten the lifetime of your iPod. But, for just backing some stuff up every once in a while and to store some files, you should be fine.

  • Will my Powerbook handle the new ipod video?

I've got a Powerbook G4 Titanium (only USB 1.1) and was hoping to get an ipod with video capability. I see they're not firewire supported, so does this leave me out? Running 10.39.

  • When will Apple release the new iPod Video Firmware?!?

    Hello there
I'm just wondering when will Apple will release iPod Video Firmware that does fix the Artowork disappearance in iPod Video
You can check the whole problem details in: Re: Ipod album cover problem "An unknown error occurred (-50)

  • I backed up my new iPod touch with data from my old one. This seems to have erased all the new apps that came with the new iPod. What do I do now?

I got a new iPod Touch today. I wanted to transfer all my apps and data over to the new iPod from my old one, so I restored it from my old one. Unfortunately, it seems to have erased the new apps that come with the latest iPod. What do I do to get the back?

Maybe I'm confusing apps with function. I was looking at the features on Apple's site, and it showed Voice Control, Air Print, Air Play, that sort of thing.
