A scaling issue is driving me nuts...

I can't figure out how to set Illustrator CS3 so that I can scale objects uniformly by using the <shift> key and the arrow tool... currently, if I hold down the shift key and drag the corner of the object, the object does not scale uniformly for some reason. Anybody have any ideas?

I closed everything except CS3 and the manual uniform scaling was working fine again.
I usually have a load of programs open so I'm not sure which one was causing the issue, but at least I know what's causing it now and how to fix it.
No more pulling my hair out, at least.

My external display issue is driving me nuts!

I am ready to scream! I have a newish MBP and an external SyncMaster225bw that was working for awhile nicely. Then I upgraded to 10.5.2 including the graphics update. Then it no longer worked. Next I did an Archive and Install and it was working again but in the last week it back to not working. It used to be that I would boot up my MBP (external monitor not plugged in) and then plug in the external monitor. That was after the 10.5.2 + graphics update. Then I did the Archive and Install and I could leave the external monitor plugged in. Oh, I did not install the graphics update after doing the A&I. Now, it doesn't matter when I plug in the external monitor, it just doesn't work right! Up in the Menu Bar where the Displays icon is, it sometimes isn't called SyncMaster- sometimes it's called Display. So it's not even identified correctly. Then none of the resolution choices that I have in the window display it so that it's not distorted. I click on Detect Displays and it doesn't make any difference. I unplug it and plug it in and it doesn't make any difference. And it will change the background picture on MBP also! So then I have to find the picture I want again..... The background picture for the external monitor would sometimes display but today it is the Time Machine background. Also in the Display Preferences pane, under Arrangement, it looks like the external monitor is the smaller of the 2 and square in shape which it is not. So as you can tell there are lots of issues going on and it's giving me a headache!!! I know there are others out there with the same issue or close to mine but I just had to rant. I am very frustrated as you can tell. When I get back from vacation, I can call Apple to see if they can help me but since it's not an Apple external monitor, I am not sure how much they can/will help me..... Judy

When do Boot Camp updates come? Mac Pro SATA issue driving me NUTS

I just got a Mac Pro, FINALLY, and after a long wait, I've had to suffer through hours of shoving Windows XP on my Mac Pro with Boot Camp 1.1. After successfully getting it all put on there, the stupid SATA issues are driving me nuts. I tried the slipstreaming fix TWICE, and I have no patience to try it a third.
Basically, I know 1.1 just came out, but do we know when the next update will come that will supposedly fix the SATA issues? How often do updates come for this so we can have a basic window of when the update will come?

I disagree… in this case at least. Apple has stated that Boot Camp is a feature of Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard and to not have it work correctly, or to its potential, on their flagship product, the Mac Pro, as it were intended then this makes it unacceptable. For Apple's customers and for Apple themselves.
Apple IS ultimately responsible for having this work out of the box and with standard off the shelf product, which includes the minimum Windoews product (Microsoft Windows XP SP2 at this time).
Bear in mind that Boot Camp is still in beta so demanding a fix is a little difficult and the the part that I feel is unfair to Apple. While I have stated previously (in another thread) that Apple will fix this issue… they can't not, it appears the reality may be a little more difficult. It is possible that upon the release of Leopard the minimum system requirements on the Mac Pro will be Windows Vista.
What I find a little odd though is that there are no SATA issues on the rest of the Mac product line.

About 5 days ago for no apparent reason at all, about
7000 songs which i have collected over a number of
years has just decided that it wont play in ITUNES or
in any other of my media players. When you click on
Play over a song nothing happens. The play icon
doesnt even come up on the screen.
Steps I have taken so far are:
1 - Remove all tracks from ITUNES and then re-add the
folder where all the songs are. This has obviously
removed all songs, but when I have re-added the
folder , it has added about 650 tracks back on to the
playlist. These 650 tracks will play. This leaves
approx 6400 tracks that it wont play.
By the way all the songs on my PC are MP3 type and I
have had no problem playing any of them until last
week.
2 - I have re-installed ITUNES and reinstalled
Quicktime and that has not worked.
3 - All of my songs are backed up on to a External
Hard Drive. I have tried to restore the songs and
also play them directly from the external hard drive.
I get the same problem when I do this.
4 - I have enabled and allowed all permissions for
the account that I am running the PC from.
I am guessing there must be some settnig or Registry
Key that is blocking me playing the tracks from the
PC. I have also tried to launch the songs in Media
Player and Sonic stage but thsi has not played
either.
All the tracks are in the folder structure as they
were before so I know they are there. I just need to
somehow unlock them.......
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful as
I dont want to lose my entire music collection.
Also I cannot find anyweher on here that is a Support
number or email address for Apple as this is an
ITUNES issue and they should be resolving it for
me!!!!

Hitting "save" is closing my documents & driving me nuts

Recently, anytime I hit "save", the document automatically closes. This happens using various programs (FTP software, Photoshop, Text-wrangler, Text-edit etc). Its driving me nuts. How can I stop this? Im using a macbook pro running 10.6.8
Ive had this computer for years and this just started happening. I dont know why. Im sure I hit a setting somewhere. Can someone help me undo this? Thanks.

I know it may sound strange but it's worth a try.
Change the ethernet cable that connect the D-Link internet port to your ISP modem.
I had a similar problem with a D-Link access point a couple of weeks ago. Intermittent WiFi connection with constant WiFi password request.
A new ethernet cable solved the issue.

DRIVING ME NUTS...PLASE HELP!!!

This is driving me nuts. Now, whenever I render or scan(forget what the function is called when you slide the mouse on the timeline to view the clip), MY COMPUTER SHUTS OFF! Then, when I turn it back on my imported files are mising and swapped. For exmple Clip #3 will play back as Clip #45..HELP!!!!!

Could be dodgy Ram... in which case, shut computer down and remove Ram sticks one by one until problem goes away.
Could be corrupt render files... Did you have to render your sequence? If so, dump all render files and re-render.
Could be corrupt media files/directory... When you scrub through the timeline, does it crash at the same point? Try to see if there is one particular clip that causes issues. If so, remove clip from capture scratch and re-capture.
Firstly though, before anything... Have you tried trashing preferences?

Every time i open firefox, i get message: "shockwave has stopped responding; fix, ignore, don't show this again," and it's driving me nuts; I must wait and wait

for it to go away (sometimes 30 seconds) and I've tried clicking "don't show this again," and "ignore" and the other (all possibilities.) Its driving me nuts, and I'm thinking of switching to Opera instead of Firefox. Can you help? Thanks. MM2

Jumpy Netflix viewing driving me nuts!

Anyone else having this problem? Streaming Netflix over our wifi is fine as long as I don't go full screen, then it gets jumpy. The video stream has little hicupps and pauses, not much, just enough to be really annoying. The audio is fine but it's driving me nuts and of course Netflix says it's not their problem. I'm tempted to say this all started when I updated Silverlight.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Grrr......the Spinning Pizza Pie icon is driving me nuts

I've been a HUGE advocate of Macs for years. And up until now I've had no problems with them.
But my iMac is acting like a Windows PC and it's driving me nuts.
Basically, the issue is this: for no predictable reason and several times a day, my Mac will display the spinning pinwheel "working" icon for 20-30 seconds. Of course it seems like an eternity when you're working and doing something productive.
Thinking that it might be hard-drive-space related, I moved ALL my songs, photos and videos to external hard drives and now have 80Gb free. The problem persists.
Anyone else had this problem and know how to solve it?

How many and which App's are trying to run on 2GB of ram?
When your start seeing the spinning beach ball check both your RAM usage and Page outs using the Activity Monitor:

If all or most of your ram is used up as Active (no free or inactive) then you will see the spinning beach ball when VM Pages in/out to the Hard Drive.

Slope calculation driving me nuts

Hi all,
I have a rather odd issue that I can't seem to fix. I have a
potentiometer monitoring position, from which I am attempting to derive
velocity. I have smoothed out the displacement curve so it is fairly
linear, yet any of the linear fit coefficients, Savitzky filters,
derivatives/differentials (ptbypt or otherwise), build array methods of calculating the slope
are not working for me. I've searched around and tried to base my
methods off the shipping examples but to no avail. This is driving me
nuts and I'm very much under the gun, so if anyone can help me overcome
my own stupidity I would greatly appreciate it. The picture I've
attached shows the smoothed displacement graph on the left, as well as
some of the results I've gotten with derivatives. I've also attached
the main program and the subvi I am using.

I've experimented with the linear fit but haven't been able to get results, as I get an error due to unequal array sizes. I haven't been able to work around it (I'm a bit of a newbie that probably isn't as good with some of the basics as I should be at this point). Sorry about attaching the wrong version of the VI. I tried saving all the default values but some of them did not work. I've attached another screen shot for your reference.

Ssrs report from ssas cube , driving me nuts now...

This is driving me nuts and I know it's gonna be some small stupid settings. The question is pretty simple, I want to users to be able to pick up a week from date hierarchy. If I specify a static week, mdx query will run and report shows with
correct data and format.
Now, in the dataset I've created using query designer, I've dragged data hierarchy into the filter and check the parameter box and also put a default value as well. Technically, when I run this report, I am supposed to see a dropdown list with all
the available dates but I did not see any dropdownlist and report still runs with default value.
Why is this happening?

Just as Gnanadurai said, a report auto runs when all parameters has their own default values. This scenario can also be occurred when there are no available values for the parameters. So if you want to see a drop-down list with all available dates when the
report runs, we should specify some available values for the parameter. For example, we can specify the available values come from a dataset field. Then the values in the field would be displayed in the drop-down list, we can select some of them to filter
the report.

I don't want to download an app. I would rather add a new string in about config or just change of the ones in there to false. It's making my work life rather difficult, to be forced to go all the way back to the end of my list after moving one tab just to have to do it again. I mean it's to the point where I might consider changing browsers if they had tab scroll bars.
Edit: At this point I will download any app. Please make this stupid feature stop.

The result of setting up that code will do exactly as you described: the tabs will be crowded together. I had not noticed any change in behaviour of Firefox with tabs because all the tabs are crowded together, so they cannot scroll, and I very seldom move tabs.

ICloud is registered to old iTunes account, how can I delete this account off my phone? It won't let me log out or delete icloud and I can't remember my password or security questions. Please help as its driving me nuts!

Restoring it will not delete it.
You need to turn it off (Settings > iCloud - Delete account then re-enable it with updated AppleID.
This is the ONLY way you can do it.

How do I fix this printer scaling issue?

I have a client running an OS X Server with Snow Leopard 10.6. Their office has iMacs and they print a variety of formats (PDF, DWG) from different programs.
The problem is that the prints are not scaling properly. When set to a certain scale, the measured print is off by 2% or so.
They also run Windows 7 in a virtualized machine via Parallels, and they are not experiencing the problem through windows.
The printer in question is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400. It is connected directly to the OS X Server via USB. The printer is then shared via Server Admin using all protocols.
On a client Mac OS X machine, I add the printer through System Preferences, Printers, and select the printer. When adding, I use the Gutenprint driver for this particular printer because for whatever reason, the standard driver will not print correctly (prints half-way, wrong size, etc.).
I have tried restarting the Print Server, removing and re-adding the printer with the same driver, updating the Gutenprint drivers from 5.2.3 to 5.2.7. I even deleted a CUPS plist file thinking it would do something but apparently not.
The prints used to print just fine. I don't know what to try as I am exhausting the research solutions I have found thus far online.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

In addition to Matt's suggestions, check what driver is being used on the server. If the Epson driver is being used on the server but the clients are having to use Gutenprint as you have mentioned, then this can also cause scaling issues. So if you can create the server queue using the Gutenprint driver (for some printers this can be tricky) then this can help. And with this queue using the Gutenprint driver I would then try printing a PDF directly from the OS X server to see if the same scaling issue occurs. If the server prints without the 2% reduction then you can concentrate on the client.
And for the client, as a test, I would also try connecting the printer directly to a client Mac via USB and also see if the same scaling issue occurs. But ensure you do use the settings Matt has suggested, because the scale to fit does catch out a lot of users.

Scaling issues with Windows 8.1 and 3200x1800 displays?

What about scaling issues with CS6 Illustrator and Photoshop? I have a hidpi 3200x1800 13" laptop with win 8.1 and can't use the software because of the tiny text.

CS6 was released before HiDpi displays were common and there are no adjustments in that program.
You can try going into Preferences > Interface and changing the UI Font Size to Large.
You could also try lowering your display resolution until is decently readable.
Another step is joining Creative Cloud. Photoshop CC 2014 has 200% UI Scaling.
$50/month for all apps or $10/month for Photoshop/Lightroom.
There are intro and educational offers if you can get on them.
