A session saver for Preview.app

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a plugin for Preview/ program that would save the session of open pdf files when Preview was last closed. I use such a feature for Safari and Firefox, a session saver that reloads tabs that were present the last time.
I access a lot of pdf files at a time and it is sometimes cumbersome to look them all up again when I restart Preview for some reason.
The recent documents list doesn't exactly give me what files were currently open.
Thanks for the reply,
Sri

Srisri:
I think the closest thing you'll find (within Preview itself) is the 'Bookmarks' feature. A bookmark set for one PDF document during one 'session' will be retained for a next session... and can be called back by invoking the same bookmark... even after quitting Preview.

  • Problems with "save for web" app low quality messed up images

Please help I have never had a problem with the "save for web" application before (over three years) I am currently running A.I. cs3 on windows vista. in the past whenever I save anything this way the images were always clean. as of yesterday everything I try to save through the save for web app the images are very low quality all the vector has jagged edges, it is very low rez looking and the file sizes are very small, half the size they normaly would be. What did I do to change the settings or better yet how can I get it back to the way it was.

Thank you for your help I moved the folder but it still did not fix this problem. it is also not just the jpg option under the save for web app but all the setting ie. gif, png, ect. ect. Also the the files sizes are much less, example I exported a design as a jpg with the quality setting about 6 the file size was 374kb when I exported the same design through the save for web app the file size was only 45 kb on the quilty setting of 100. further more in the preview screen of "save for web" the original images as well as the optimized both look messed up. The "save for web" app has always worked for me in the past never a problem and I use this app alot so it is very important.

  • How to restore package contents for preview.app after Mac OS X Lion upgrade

since installing Mac OS X Lion I have been totally unable to run Preview.app. After having attempted to troubleshoot the problem I discovered that the package contents for the Preview application no longer existds on my hard drive. Does anyone know where I can obtain a another copy of the preview application? or how I might go about restoring the package contents for Preview in order to run Preview.app?

Use Pacifist to extract it from the InstallESD.dmg residing inside the Install Mac OS X Lion.app.

  • Suggestions for Preview app features (Snow Leopard)

There's lot's to like in the new Preview app, but I'd like a few more things:
    1. Ability to edit and reorder Tables of Contents.
    2. Ability to reorder Bookmarks (and to hierarchically group them)
    3. Sensible control over formatting of links.
    Thanks

    Exactly!
If Apple was not interested in feedback for improving products, then the feedback pages make no sense whatsoever. If you think they're just for bug reporting, then why isn't the page titled "Product Bug Reports," and why are four of the seven items in the Feedback Type not in any way bug related?

  • How to track session IDs for multiple apps in same server instance?

    All:
We have 2 web applications (for example: app1,app2) running in one app
server instance (weblogic 5.1). Both of those applications use the same
cookie name (defined in weblogic.properties ) to keep the HttpSessionID.
The tricky thing is that if a client logs in to app1 and then logs in to
app2 with the same web browser, (for example, IE). The app1's
HttpSessionID kept in the cookie will be overwritten by app2's
HttpSessionID because they use the same cookie name.
    My question is this:
Is there a way to specify a cookie name for each application running in
    an application server instance?
The only way we know of to work around the problem is that we have to
host the app1 and app2 in 2 different app server instances so we can
config app1 and app2 to use different cookie names for the
HttpSessionID. We are curious if there is a better way to do that.
BTW, We must use Cookie because of the requirement of cluster and load
    balancer.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
Which version of Weblogic are you using??
In 5.1 sp8 the Cookie names of the Web Apps are different by default.

  • Can anyone remember when Preview.app first gained support for bookmarks?

Can anyone remember when Preview.app first gained support for bookmarks?
I think it was either with the advent of Tiger or reasonably early on within it's development (e.g. 10.4.2), although I may well be wrong.
The reason I'm asking is that there used to be a capability in Preview.app that allowed you to open multiple PDFs in one window and print them all at once. I'm wondering about going back through my desks and hunting it out:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1388297

    Ha! Fixed it!
Kept reading all "Preview+plist" threads and found this one: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17195650#17195650
And sure enough, trashing ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/ reset the preferences for Preview.app and now all key commands work without crashing.
But if erasing that folder, and more importantly the plist in it, did reset the preferences, that would suggest the preferences were being saved there. So I now changed the prefs and quit the app, and then trashed the containers folder again, and restarted the app. But strangely the prefs remained. So I thought, well if the prefs were being stored there, maybe erasing that plist made Preview reinstate the regular plist in the regular Preferences folder? But no go, as there's still no regular Preview plist in the regular Preferences folder.
So now, there's no regular plist, and erasing the Containers folder no longer resets the prefs, but changes to prefs are still being saved somewhere … so where the **** are they being saved now? It's like they just keep burrowing down further into the ground with every attempt to erase them. What the **** is going on? ;-)
Anyways, the initial problem is solved, so … maybe I should just let the mystery remain? ;-)

  • Preview.app crashes whenever I use a key command

I've had this very annoying problem for quite a while now, and so far I haven't been able to find a solution for it.
Whenever I use a key command in Preview.app it either freezes or crashes or both. I can use all the menu options, just not trigger them with a key command.
So I can use the app just fine, just so long as I remember to not use the key commands, but it's just that having been using apple key commands since 1986 it's really hard to not acidentally hit any of them while in Preview.app, and every so often I accidentally do … sometimes losing unsaved changes in the process.
I'm not sure when the problem first occurred, but it dates back to Lion at least and it's still there in Mountain Lion as well.
I thought it might be some extension or some background app clashing with Preview.app, but when starting up holding shift the problem remains.
And the problem is local to my user account only, and Preview.app works just fine in other user accounts.
So I figured I'd just trash the Preview.app prefs and all would be well, but no go. Unless there are some more hidden prefs of some kind that I don't know about.
So, something local to my user account only screws up key commands in Preview.app only, and I can't figure out what or how to solve it.
I may end up having to migrate the contents and settings of my account to a new user account to solve this, but that soundsa lot like surrendering doesn't it? ;-)
And I thought I'd give it one more try to figure this out before I put myself through a migration process. ;-)
    Ideas anyone?

  • Lion Preview.app crashes every time i use a key command

Whenever I use a key command in Preview.app it crashes.
I'm fine selecting any command from the actual menus, but as soon as I use the key commands for the same functions the app crashes.
(And we're talking also basic stuff like command N or O or even Period to exit an Open dialog.)
So … anyone have any ideas?
I've tried trashing all Preview preferences in my library folder, and I've repaired permissions, and I've tried a safe boot … but the problem remains.
The problem is local, and everything works just fine for other user accounts on the same machine. But I'd rather solve the issue than migrating all my data to a new account.

  • Preview app won't export or 'save as'

Suddenly it's no longer possible to use the 'export' feature (which used to be 'save as') on preview. It just hangs. I suspect it's trying to save to icloud (which I do not want, but I don't see anyway of making this clear in a preference panel).  This is a major problem for me.  I don't see any discussions of the built in 'preview' app, so I sure hope somebody here has an idea. Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming.

I don't think there is a cache folder, but there should be a container. Are you sure you looked in your Library and not the "all users" Library at the root of your hard drive?
To open your Library, hold down the option key and select Library from the Go menu in Finder.
Does it work logged into another account?
    How about in Safe Mode?
The first will determine if it is only in your account.
The second will determine if some third-party software is interfering.
Here's a hint to stop the default save to iCloud: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120820003211714
However, if you don't want to save documents to iCloud, uncheck the Documents & Data checkbox in iCloud System Preferences.

  • Preview.app remember save path and file extension

In Snow Leopard version of Preview.app, it would remember the path to where you have saved the previous file.   I do a lot of cropping and color correction with preview and loved the way it worked in Snow Leopard.   Now I have to drill down in the folder structure every time I save a file.    Is there a way to have the new preview remember the last saved file path.
Another thing that has always bothered me with either version is the default file type for pictures.   I would like to change the default from png to jpg.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks
    Steve

    I very strongly agree.
The user should be able to choose a default type for export.
Iterated exports should go to the same directory as the previous export by default. The first export of a series is not iterated, so it must have its parent directory chosen.
    Sigh . . .

  • .gif preview slow in Save for Web

I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.
My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.
I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. It seems that everyones default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.
I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.
Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow, but I have read that many people are having this issue so hopedully someone will have a solution.

I don't use a Mac but the first the first thing I do when I have performance problems with Photoshop on my PC is to do some house cleaning.  I reset my Photoshop Preference to a saved copy I made when Photoshop was working well.  I Also clean my disk up clearing caches and temp files so the plenty of scratch space.  I close all applications and look at the machine CPU utilization. Then try Photoshop to see if it is back to its normal performance.

  • Preview options in the "save for web" dialog

According to the reference, the previews in the "save for web" dialog are there only for showing how the image can be seen on various platforms with different gamma values.
But, if we open a non-sRGB image (ProPhoto for example) by the "save for web" option, the preview options (other than the "use document profile) in the "save for web" dialog assign sRGB color space to the image even when the "convert to sRGB" option is unchecked ... this causes unrealistic, dull previews for the image.
What is the reason behind that PS assigns sRGB to the image previews if we uncheck "convert to sRGB" option?

Basically, how animation works with GIF and Save for Web in PSE is that each layer in your document is a frame of animation. So you see one layer, then the next, and so on. You should not see the contents of the last frame/layer when looking at the current/next frame of the animation.
Could you post a screen shot of your layers panel and give us a link to the GIF that is coming out of Save for Web?

  • Session Timeouts for Apps deployed on separate domains

    Hi,
    Jdeveloper : Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.2.0 , Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.2.0_GENERIC_091029.2229.5536
    Platform: Linux, Windows
I am observing something strange with session timeouts when 2 apps are deployed to 2 separate WLS instances.
Here is what I had done :
In JDeveloper, I create 2 Fusion Apps.
I create a simple JSPX page having a Tabbed Pane with 2 tabs in each of these apps.
I create a separate WLS domain with Admin server in it, using the weblogic's config tool.
I deploy one application in the embedded WLS instance and another application in the newly created domain's Admin server instance (for testing only) .
I access the jspx page in each of the app in 2 tabs from the same browser window.
When I click on the one application (i.e click on tabs in the tabbed pane) , the other application is timing out immediately. (definitely, the configured timeout limit of 6 minutes has not been reached)
    Has anybody observed this ?
How can I circumvent this behavior ?
    Thanks in advance
    Sivan

The server set the session id, but its up to the browser to decide to use it or not.
If the browser sends a null session id, the server will generate a new one.
IE is well-known for sending null session id frequently to force renegotiation with the server.
Not sure what is the purpose of this, but it is annoying when doing stickyness.
    Gilles.

Looking for an app that I can save what I highlight when I am reading an article without having to copy and paste

I looked at Bento and at first glance I think it would do everything I want it to do, then I saw a review or something from a customer that indicated the information in Bento could not be exported (say to send out a mailing).  I may want a program that can do that as well, is there one out there? If not it does look like Bento will work.  When you save a picture to a customer in Bento can you open it up full size?

FormConnect (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/formconnect/id432653695?mt=8&ls=1) can handle the filling out, signing, saving and emailing the contracts/forms but uploading the contract and the form is going to be a challenge because you’re dealing with paper documents that have to be scanned.  If you can convert the scanned documents into an OCR program, you might be able to copy and paste the contract without having to retype it but the form itself is probably going to have to be recreated.  Alternatively, you could use a document annotation program such as iAnnotate and mark up the contract with ink.
