I had thread out on this forum about two months ago, about boot problems with my
newly bought system, wich consists of:

The system is STABLE, STABLE (actually I don´t belive this yet!, but empirically YES)
The story goes like this; I had problems at boot, the mobo didn´t recognized the CPU, the D-bracket showed either bad CPU or bad installed, I RMAed back the whole thing and the test showed a bad mobo. I received a new back and the same problem remained. The anxiety raised and then I turned me to this forum for help. I received a lot of help, suggestions and I began to think that maybe the problem was on the power side. I send the whole thing back and nothing whrong was found. I put the whole thing together again, with a new PSU (se above) and voilá, the system runs stable. The problem, at least for the second time it was a power issue. This PSU delivers 22amps :shocking:on the 12V rail, wich seems to be enough.
Why I whrite this, well to explain my story and most of all to express my gratitud to those of you who helped me out When
I had problems, all I whant to say is THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!
Now!, new problems araises, the system gets hot and I think the problem is due to the CPU fan and the case (bad ventilation)
Any suggestions about what to buy or change?!?!?!?

What is the ambient room temp where your pc is set up and how hot is hot? I have turned the heating off in the room where my two pc's now reside
Btw glad you found help here and solved your problem, nothing more frustrating than a hardware fault.
As for cooling it's a trade off of noise and temp. I intend to go for some watercooling in the way of the new Aquagate when it's released but there are some very good air coolers. A lot of people have had success with the Zalman 7000.
You could also try fitting an Arctic 4 cooler to your agp card. Mayeb try a HDD cooler, not sure how good these are though...
Not sure about your case will have to look it up but I am after a Coolermaster Stacker to house my beast! Lots of cooling options there and room to fit stuff...

Although not really designed for Articles and Novels, if you insist you it may work but would not be really be fit for purpose. I mean you can use the research or synopsis document, most documents you create are free form text (text editor), except scripts. I would recommend the use of other software for Novels.

Crafting a chapter-less book is possible, but a minimum of one section is required. Remove the chapter label, leave the TOC blank and you'll then have a basic/generic point from which to work with.
Use the 'File/Save As Template' menu before modifying further if you want to reuse later, etc.

Conclusion after trying to insert 30 page short story

View screens should be detachable for multiple screens.
Writer functions should take precedence over reports, other functions. If you don’t make it easier for the writer, you make everything more difficult for others down the line. This is called AdobeStory, not AdobeDirector. Taking the viewpoint of the director and his or her needs skips the most important aspect... the story! The screen directions, money funneling reports come way, way after the creative bursts that creates the story.
The entire interface should really be WORD first, dissemination of the written elements to functionaries second. Build an application like WORD, OPEN OFFICE, STORYMILL,SCRIVERS on top on this app that integrates seamlessly and you’ll have a full creative product.
You must make the whole process easy for the writer (remember, many directors are writers).
I should be able to create written material exactly the same as in WORD, or I will go to WORD or other writer program to write the story. If I do that (defeats the purpose of this application or make it twice, three times the work) then I should be able to seamlessly import WORD back into a first draft structure.
A conversion of literary elements of a story should be taken into account, i.e., interior monologue to voice over narration, naming conventions, cliches, redundancies, homonyms, pacing, readability, phrase repeats, word frequencies, Kincade analysis, etc... these writer algorithms already exist.
A novel, short story is to film is rarely a collaborative effort until very near the end. A short film about monkeys or sewers might be, but remember ‘author’ is short for authority or single source voice.
The text formatting mini window is very annoying. ELiminating the writer function in favor of category functions is also annoying... once again the writer is made second fiddle to production engineering.
Synonyms access is of the highest importance... not seeing it! Grammar (SPAG) functions are basically nonexistent.
Where is the off-line application? On line means I always must write in a wi-fi area, but I’d rather sit in a private area of my estate past the pool (am I kidding... lol)
Why do I have to always use the keyboard functions (CMD-C, etc) to manipulate text?
I should be able to hide the very top panel (PROJECT, AUTHOR ) bar to give me more space on singe screen laptop. (In my office I use 2 screens systems - 3 computers) . This interface is dull... but of course that is just a design feasture for the future.

Text respond is way too slow. Important navigation is too small.
Has this been tested using a variety of pointing devices. I use a roller ball, keyboard, command line, a wireless mouse, a pen, trackpad and touchscreen.
I use WORD for the mac, even Apple conceded WORD is far better than PAGES and every other word processor, so should you.
The flash based interface kind of sucks since I am so use to Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop... CS5 continuity?
Full screen view disallows use of other applications. Again, on initial write of novel/short story I flip between a half a dozen research DBs, Wikipedia and notebooks apps.
I wrote a 300 page + novel in Dreamweaver, incorporated my own CF database with calls to CF parameters tags used to call chapters and text pages... and it was a breeze to do.
Calling dictionary/thesausus in full screen mode is moot until taken out of full screen. THese functions should be pop-ups and moveable.
Sorry to sound so whiny. Interface is not intuitive, not conducive for 10-12 hour writing sessions at full steam.
Conclusion - learning the simple stage directions/screen direction and then applying them in WORD would be faster.
Of course if I were a stage manager or production manager this would be a good organizational tool, but it fails as a writing application. Call it AdobeDirector or Producer-MoneyMan PDF creator.

There is an offline version of the program. When using it, you simply log in with a password and can toggle between working online and offline at your leisure.

HT5071 publishing short story to ibook

I am trying to publish a short story to the ibook store but when I get to the place to enter a web site URL that I do not have it will not let me bypass this section. What URL do I need to use?

There are plenty of free webs offered online - google "free websites" and take your pick. All are usually preset templates, just had some text and a few pictures.
If that sounds daunting, look for a "friend" who builds websites and ask advice.
BUT, basically, you can just use your Facebook account. Apple want your readers to have a popint of contact for support. If dont have FB, ,its very simple to open an account and you do not have to fill in every box... my registered name with FB is "Sales Staff"!!

Muse website for short story publishers ... how to ....

Hi and thanks in advance ... I'm looking to create a muse website for short story authors so they can submit their stories and visitors to the site could comment on a story, vote or rate it, and retrieve past stories from an archive either by date, author, subject, category (fiction, non fiction, etc or randomly. I realize a back end system of some sort ( a CMS) is likely needed or some embed code from an external service of some sort.
Does anyone have any leads on a CMS or other such service that will do this?

You can use Blogs or forums for achieving purpose, where users can upload their stories and viewers can rate/vote it. If you are using third party hosting platform then you would need to integrate using html.

How do I shorten one region and take up slack keeping later regions intact and in synch in short story spoken word reading

I import one track which is one region and it is a little more than one hour long. It is the import from the master, It is a spoken word short story and the reader makes a a few flubs/miscues in reading. He repeats to redo text where he makes reading mistakes. So, I have a story in one track-spoken word. Now, I edit out mistakes and finish the first draft.
There are now 100 regions in the track. I go back to fine tune the edit and recheck for reading mistakes and editing mistakes. In region 10 I realize I must cut a portion out because of an extraneous word mishap. This spilt makes region 10 shorter. Now I must move ALL regions, 11-100, up to take up the unwanted gap. How do I get all, 11-100 regions to move up and keep the story intact, in synch?
Then, in region 20 I realize I must lengthen it, part of a sentence is cut off. I re-import the original to a new track and find the sentence I need and spilt the track so I can replace the faulty region 20 with the new and longer region 20. Now, region 21-100 need to move downstream to make room for the longer replacement region.
How do I get 21-100 to move as one unit, downstream so I can add 20 and keep everything in sync?
I do not think, or at least hope, I have to select each 21-100 regions individually.

the most obvious way is to zoom out and drag select them all.
a less obvious way would be select all the regions (click in the track header) and choose the Join menuItem to create one large region out of all the peices, then you're moving only a sngle region after your edit point

just grab the bottom right corner of the region and drag to the right to bring back the missing section

Acrobat X Pro launches for a short period, then goes dead

Acrobat X pro does launch for something like 10 seconds. While the Application Manager shows up in the dock, acrobat is getting terminated and shortly after, the application manager stops too.
can not work with our pdf forms anymore.... all the returned and filled in forms are worthless due to this very bad release of acrobat x pro

I would try uninstalling Acrobat X Pro, and reinstall it again.
I had the same problem but it was because of a conflict between an install of Acrobat X Pro and an install of Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection (which includes Acrobat X Pro). I uninstalled all, and reinstalled and it now works fine.

First off. I am new here so hi to you all
I am new to overclocking. Please tell me how far I can go for my CPU (RAM I don't plan to), and what settings in bios I need to change (in simple words, don't try me on abbrev too much :P)

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939 Winchester
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512 Samsung PC3200 DDR Dual Channel RAM (I don't plan to OC RAM)
Antec TruePower 380W (Sonata edition)
BFG GeForce 6800 OC (I don't really plan to OC that either, dunno how)
Would I be able to up from 2.0ghz to 2.2ghz?
Current CPU idle temp: 38 degrees (Arctic Silver 5 applied)

N82 dead pixels

i have my N82 for about 1year & ahalf, for instance in my contract I've extended my waranty by 1 extra year (waranty = 2years total). for the past few days it started to have dark "dot" then moved to lines of about 1cm long.
Left it @ the Nokia Care centre & these guys are saying that its a missuse for my part whereby I've applied "high pressure" on the screen.
on my opinion its simply dead pixels and they dnt wana replace it for free.
can anyone please advise what can be done??

u r right man!!!!actualy there's a contreversre in Mauritius whereby one of the rep of Nokia implies that most of the phones under warranty or not having issues are primarily due to "oxidation" !!!!!Mauritius being a tropical island... for instance i took pics of my phone the day being submitted to reparation...(unfortunately i used a 5800 xpress music) front facia is kinda blured but rear part is clear.
as per phone call with the technician ( called me @ 22.00) the phone will be ready by 31st of July ...
attahced is the pic of the screen when submitted to the retailer.
wat u r saying sounds right & logical but the short story above just shows you with what kinda people we are dealing with !!!

Possible work-around for v3.0 short battery life

First: be aware there's a difference between "Push" (which is for some email account types & some MobileMe features) and "Push Notifications" (which is for apps). They are controlled in separate Settings screens.
Short story:
If you've upgraded to v3.0, usually have Wifi ON, and experiencing short battery life, and if you can live without Push Notifications (at least until Apple finds a better solution), TRY TURNING "Push Notifications" OFF.
Alternatively, if you can live without Wifi but need Push Notifications, try turning Wifi off & let the data travel via 3G.
Long story:
First I ran alternate days with Wifi ON, then Wifi OFF, and noticed with Wifi OFF my battery life was nowhere near as short (I could get through a day), but with Wifi ON, I can barely get through half a day. This is very different to v2.21, and in my setup the only significant difference was Push Notifications being ON.
Then today I've been running continuous pings from my Mac to my iPhone, with various combinations of Push on/off, Push Notifications on/off, email accounts on push / fetch / manual, and discovered there's a huge difference in how often Wifi gets turned on when Push Notifications is enabled.
With Push Notifications ON, while your iPhone 3G (and probably 3GS) is asleep, Wifi will be turned on for 15-20seconds every 1 to 2 minutes!
This is in stark contrast to Push Notifications OFF, but Push (for email, MobileMe, etc) ON, where Wifi is on only as often as your email account settings dictate.
This explains a lot, I think. With Wifi OFF, data goes through the 2G/3G radio, which is inherently ON all the time (for phone functionality), so the incremental 'cost' (to battery life) of Push Notifications is comparatively small.
But with Wifi enabled, data is instead sent via Wifi. The incremental cost (to battery life) is dramatically higher having to turn on the Wifi radio, find the WLAN, get an IP from DHCP, then exchange data with various Internet servers, when it happens every couple of minutes!
Though I'm not really sure what Apple can do about this situation. They appear to be turning Wifi on frequently to give the illusion of true (ie timely) push notifications. I think this situation runs parallel to those who found, with v2.x, that enabling Push on email accounts & Wifi enabled had similar major negative impact on battery life. Except now heaps more people want the Push Notification feature. Interesting conundrum...

The main thing that helped me with the short battery life was lowering the brightness. My 3G was so bright I could'nt sleep at night.

Dead ti4800?

I believe my ti4800 just kicked the bucket today. I was playing Lineage 2 and i got a series of vertical colored lines w/ tiny black boxes in it. basically my vga display went to hell. I restarted and loaded up a game - happened again!
could it be it overheating? i looked on the front of my tower at the temp monitor i have monitoring its temperature and it was 15degrees Less than what it normally runs at.. nope not heat.
i figured.. well just to rule out the possible case that it MAY be software related (though i know for sure it wasnt) i did a format. It did the same vga fudge WHILE! i was half way through my formatting bar. I could still hear the hard drive going and the colors were flashing a bit so i actually fully formatted and installed windows xp whiel staring at this ugly vga cluster of colored boxes.
after the install i get back up into windows and load up another game - BAM does it again.
must be the vid card then huh? i grabbed my old gf2 gts out of the grave yard and loaded her up and Presto! been playing games for hours with no problems.
i got my card on may 7th of 2003 which means im in warranty with Msi and im hoping for a new card but here is my question to you!
if i call up msi and tell them my little short story here and they aggree to get me a new card, are there any upgrade features available? could i pay extra money and upgrade the ti4800 replacement to a higher end card? If anyone has had any experiences with this please do share. i'll read the forum often

CS6 RAM preview short and "needs 2 or more frames" errors

Hello everyone,
I've been researching this one for over a week now and still haven't found a solution. The short story it is that my RAM preview is limited to only a few seconds regardless of work area, but I've got over 4Gb of RAM available and open for use. CPU is barely being used as well. I'm also intermittently getting the "After Effects Error: RAM Preview requires 2 or more frames to playback," which confuses me as I have 4Gb or ram available. RAM is still close to 4Gb during and after preview. This has been a repeated problem, not matter how many times the memory is purged, the RAM is free'd up with the Memory Clear App (as recommended in previous threads), or the computer is restarted. Memory and Cache have been optimized for best performance as well. Also, final renders are fine and have no problems. It's only with RAM preview and previewing the project that I'm having trouble. It seems to me that the project is being bottlenecked somewhere but not sure where or how. To open, here's the system I'm running it on. It may not be a brute but it should be enough to handle the work.
System:
Program: Adobe After Effects CS6 (11.0.4.2
System: Mid 2010 iMAC, 27-inch
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5

Composition Settings: 1280 x 720 at 23.976fps
Project Location: Company Server
Problems
-Ram preview only renders a few seconds, regardless of Work Area or "From Current Time" enabled.
-Fairly frequent, "After Effects Error: RAM preview requires two or more frames to playback."
-Scrolling through project is very pixelated.
When Problems Occurs: When trying to perform a RAM preview.
Attempted Solutions:
- Use of Memory Clean App to open up more RAM. (Makes little to no difference when problem is at peak.)
- Shut down and restart computer (Does work for a short time but problem reappears within an hour)
- Closing all apps and running just After Effects. (Little to no difference)
- Turning off motion blur, turning on 3D draft and using Proxies to simplify project. (Little to no difference)
- Purge: All Memory. (No difference)
- Stopping any unnecessary processes in Activity Monitor. (No difference)
Additional Information:
-Projects seem to take a little longer than normal to open. (1-2 min max.)

Unfortunately the problem has come back again after an hour of use this morning. To show how much RAM I have available at the time the issue appears, I've included the Memory Clean window showing 4.44GB of ram available at the time of incident. It first happened a few minutes ago with roughly 1GB available, so I and purged all memory in After Effects and cleaned the RAM with the Memory Clear app, but still no such luck. I've been working with the same actions and material all morning so nothing new was introduced to the project when the error occurred. The work I was performing at the time was animating highlight boxes over a screen capture, but again it seems to happen regardless of what I'm working on. I'm going to restart the computer and see how long it makes it before needing another reset. Any other ideas as to what it could be? Also, if there's any more information that might be helpful to solving the issue please let me know and I'll be happy to share. Thank you again for the support!
Szalam, thank you for the link. I had been to the page previously but am going back to watch them again to see if I missed something. If it is a bottleneck, I'm not sure where it could be as of yet.

I have an issue running a linear SWF story

I have about a day to fix a problem I am having.
Basically i created a short story and linked each SWF file to the next scene via buttons, to make it as quick loading as possible. When previewed in Flash to see if it works, it works fine. When each SWF is previewed in a Browser, it works fine.
Scene1 -> Scene2 -> Scene3, and so on.
It worked fine when i previewed it in Flash, but as soon as i place the SWF in Dreamweaver, it plays the 1st scene, but won't play the linked SWF when i click on the next button (When previewing)..
Any ideas?

If the files are in a different directory than the html page, that will be the problem. When you place an swf in a web page, the directory of the html page becomes the loading reference for any files your swf loads... it is the same as if you placed the swf in that directory anyways.
If you want to keep the swf's in a separate directory, then you need to adjust the path they use to target the other swfs to be as if they are in the html page directory. You do not have to put them in the same directory as the html page, you just have to code the targeting of any files they load as if the file doing the loading is in that folder.
