Hi all
How do I copy from my IPOD to my computer hard drive.
Thought it was just a drag and drop, but that doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

I use Yamipod to do this. There are other programs but I think Yamipod is best

Simple and maybe stupid question when you have two instances

Just a simple question, I was just wondering how to create user account on the local machine when you run two instances of oracle.For example all the commands I use to start and stop the database use the variables stored in the oracle user bash_profile.
But do I have to create another user to manage the other instance because it should use another bash_profile with a different oracle_sid?

Linux and Unix installations of Oracle are kind-a funny. At the end of te installation is a request to run 'root.sh'. That does a few things: set up permissions and ownerships correctly; copy some scripts into the specified directory (default /usr/local/bin).
If you were to look at /usr/local/bin, you would notice a few files, typically with names "dbhome.sh, oraenv.sh, oraenv.csh". These are designed to set up the PATH, the ORACLE_HOME and the ORACLE_SID correctly, based on user response and information in the oratab file - which is /etc/oratab in Linux. (I always ensure there to link oraenv.sh as oraenv)
Longer story shortened:
Assume you use(d) dbca to create the instances. Then you can source the oraenv.sh to set up the environment:

pop2@fuzzy:~> env | grep -i ora
ORACLE_SID=orcl

ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/serverThat way you can switch to any known environment simply by sourcing oraenv and telling it which SID you want. It extracts the info from /etc/oratab.
You can tell oraenv to shut up by setting ORAENV_ASK to 'NO' and setting the ORACLE_SID variable before sourcing oraenv. This is useful in .profile - for example my /etc/profile contains the followig:
export ORACLE_SID=XE
ORAENV_ASK=NO
. oraenv

SImple but important java question

hello all,
just been revising for an exam and just have come across this bit where my notes are trying to explain that arguments passed to java methods are PASSED BY VALUE, and the example is this:

      int b = 5;
      swap( a, b );
      System.out.println( "a=" + a ); // 4

}Isn't this obvious since when a and b are printed out they are already 4 and 5 because of this:
      int a = 4;
      int b = 5;And the method swap(a,b) method might not just as well be there. because it won't have an affect on when a and b are pinted out???!!!!

Is it because of the arrays referencing
a[0]...a[1]..etc????!!!Note the difference between swapping a and b vs. swapping a[0] and b[0]. Also, if there were a member variable, swapping a.thing and b.thing would be reflected in the caller.
With your initial example, we're changing the values of the variables, and since the method and the caller each have their own copies of those variables, the caller is not affected. (Note that only a primitive, a reference or null, can be a variable's value in Java, never an object.)
With array elements and member variables of parameters, we're changing the contents of the objects pointed to by those variables. Since there's only a single object for each parameter, and the method's variable and caller's variable both point to that same object, both see the change.
References are passed by value, so changing the reference's value (which object it points to) doesn't affect the caller. But only the reference is copied, not the object, so changing the state of the object will be seen by the caller.

Stupid question, I know, but after years of using Firefox, on this one I can't find the Page Reload icon?? Please help.

In the past, when I want to refresh a page, I've simply gone to the page reload icon on the toolbar. On the new version, I can't fin the reload icon. Sorry I know this is a very stupid question,, but I just can't find that reload icon. The toolbar is a lot different from previous versions, but I'm sure tht pesky icon must be there somewhere!!

You could also benefit from the looking at the article on [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars customizing the tool bar]. That will show you not only how to verify that you have the refresh button, but give you options on where it lives as well.

Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.

Stupid Question, but.......

I run TM on three Macs (two iMacs and a MacBook Pro). I really do not know much about TM other than once set-up it runs pretty much on its own backing up the computers. Does it back everything up including iTunes? I know that this is probably a stupid question but if it does back up iTunes, is there a need to separately back up iTunes to DVDs/CDs or another external drive?

Definitely NOT a stupid question. And the answer is . . . it depends on how much risk you want to take. As great as locally-attached external drives and Time Capsules are, they may not protect you from fire, flood, theft, or direct lightning strike on your power lines. So if your music (or other data) is really important to you, and difficult, expensive, or impossible to replace, then yes, you need an off-site backup in addition to TM.
There are many ways to do this. Some folks alternate between a pair of portable externals with Time Machine, keeping one attached for a week or so, then swapping with the other in their safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, etc. (You do have to tell TM when you do this, and shouldn't go much longer than 7 days between swaps.)
Others copy their data to DVD/RW(s) periodically, and take them off-site.
Still others use a different app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to copy just their iTunes folder, and/or iMovie folder, etc., to a smaller portable external and take that off-site.
Still others, if their data isn't too large, store a copy online, either via a MobileMe subscription on their iDisk, or with a 3rd-party service like Mozy.
And there is an option within iTunes to do incremental backups to CDs/DVDs. I haven't used it, but it's been recommended here.
This may seem a bit like wearing a belt plus suspenders, but backups are one area where many of us have learned, often the hard way, that +Paranoia is Prudent!+

You can't see the backup, all you can do is confirm that it was successfully completed. To do this, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and look at the very bottom under Back Up Now. It will show the time/date of your most recent backup. If you see this, you do have a backup in iCloud and can restore it to your device in the future if you ever need to. (You also can't see any of the files in a backup, you can only restore it to your device.)

You can't transfer any purchase to the cloud yourself, whether a TV programme/series will show in the cloud for redownloading in the future depends upon what country that you are in (TV programmes can't be redownloaded in all countries), whether you move countries (you can't redownload purchases made in another country) and if the rights-holder keeps them in the store (they occasionally remove their items).
As you bought it on your laptop then you could turn Settings > iTunes & App Store > Videos (under 'show all') 'on' on your iPad and it might show in the Videos app on it with a cloud icon against it for streaming/redownloading (it might also show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes Store app for refownloading whether or not you turn that 'on') - but that depends upon your country and only whilst it remains in your country's store. Similarly if you delete it from your laptop and tick the 'show iTunes in the cloud purchases' tick box on the Store tab in Edit > Preferences it might show in the TV Shows part of your library for redownloading (and whether or not you tick that it might show in the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading).
But you should be taking a backup copy of it, and anything else that you download from the stores, there is no guarantee that you will be able to redownload any item.

You can do this using Quicktime Pro 7:
Open MOV file in QT Pro (QT 7.6.6)
Window -> Show Movie Properties
select "Video Track"
select "Visual Settings" from lower window
check "Preserve Aspect Ratio"
Click on appropriate rotation icon (MOV rotates!)
Click back on the open MOV in Player Window
FILE -> Save
You can also do this using TransformMovie, available here:

Also, MPEG Streamclip can rotate video while maintaining the aspect ratio as well as the interlacing when converting to DV, which is what iMovie prefers as an input:

Had me stumped for a while too ...
On the screen that presents all your "Blank" documents, simply touch the word "Blank" under the preview (not the actual preview) and you'll get a dialogue to name your document.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but ive been wrecking my head now for about 2 hours on it, and cant find any help on the net.
Im looking to create an image to add to a j2me application. And basically it cant find the image.
The image is in my c:\images folder and its called pike.jpg, when i use the following the code it does not find the image
image = Image.createImage("C:/images/pike.jpg");
image = Image.createImage("C/images/pike.jpg");
image = Image.createImage("C:/\images/pike.jpg");
image = Image.createImage("C:\\images/pike.jpg");Yet when i place it in my working directory and use
image = Image.createImage("/pike.jpg");It works fine, basically how do i point to the directory c:\images\pike.jpg in java

Thanks. Now that is clarified, I can see from the documentation:
The name parameter is a resource name as defined by Class.getResourceAsStream(name) . The rules for resolving resource names are defined in the Application Resource Files section of the java.lang package documentation.
So it's not a file name. The string you pass must be findable via the classpath.
So, if C:\images is included in your classpath (which you'll need to do for this example), then just use "/pike.jpg" and have that file live in the images directory only.
