A simple challenge... find an XP icon for OSX

I've been scouring the net for a decent 'XP' icon that I can use for my Fusion icon in the dock. There must be a rule against having a decent search engine on these icon sites because I sure couldn't find one. Anyone want to prove me wrong?

Here's some I found:

I cannot find the AirPlay icon for the life of me. I have iOS 7.0.2 on my iPad Mini. Connected to my WiFi network just fine. I swipe up to get to the control center badges and all I see is the AirDrop icon. Trying to disable mirroring on ipad for Netflix streaming and don't know what to do. Any luck out there?

If you last used an Apple TV to mirror your device and have updated to the newest Apple TV software, go into settings and turn airplay back on. The icon should then appear on your iPad mini when you swipe up allowing you to disable it for Netflix. After updating my Apple TV software for some reason it turned airplay off.

  • Where to find desk top icons for firefox, not short cuts, icons

I do not like the blue world desk top icon for Nightly and I would to use the other desk top icon with the fox curled inside the blue world. Please send me the icon, not the short cut. Thanks !

Sounds like a question for a Windows 7 support forum. I don't use Win7, but in WinXP if you right-click a desktop icon and open Properties, there is a button for '''Change Icon'''. As finitarry alluded to, you will need to come up with your own icon file of the correct size. Keep in mind that Nightly updates frequently, actually it updates '''''nightly''''', and you may find that you need to replace that icon every day. ''Speculation on my part, I have never wasted my time replacing a desktop shortcut icon for a program that updated frequently. And if you spent any time searching for how to do that specifically for Firefox, anything you might have found about fiddling Firefox program files or the Firefox Profile folder hasn't worked since the Firefox 3.0 version.''

  • Icons Bug in Finder - Displays Random Icons for Random Files

This seems to have occurred after the latest Leopard update. Doing a search through a large folder, containing all my custom icons, for files named 'Documents', 'Dog', etc., the correct list of files comes up, yet the majority of them display a random icon. This random icon doesn't change for the individual files, as they essentially come up as one of 2 or 3 completely wrong, custom icons.
This problem occurs in Coverflow and grid view, yet not in the 'Get Info' screen nor in the listed/column view. I've restarted twice and on both occasions the wrong icons shared have changed.
    Thanks in advance.

Forgive me for not explaining it well enough. The icons presented are incorrect (hence the randomness). They are not previews with white borders but rather a file that has come up early on in the search (one of the first few found) that has been applied randomly to the following results of that search. For example, a search for 'dog' will come up with, say, 40 icons. The first 10 or so will be displayed accurately, only for the following 30 to be displayed with any one of the 10 previous icons.

Invoking the name of your parochial deity has little
effect in these forums, in fact I would suggest that
you will end up alienating a large proportion of
people who would otherwise answer your questions. You know, usually I'd frown at someone telling me "God bless you", too. But for some reason, I almost replied "thanks" to this one. Maybe because I usually don't get to hear it.
I guess I need to calm down a little, basically it's the same as "I wish you luck in your life", and I wouldn't be offended at that one. Nobody forces me to believe in Allah or God, but they do belive in them, and if they wish their deity to watch over me - it's a very nice gesture. It's a sign of goodwill and thankfulness, and I shall accept it as such.

  • Simple Object Modelling and Java IDE for OSX?

I haven't been technical for a while and I want to refresh my Java and object modelling skills. I'm looking for two things. If I can find both in the same environment so much the better.
    1) A basic UML modelling tool. All I really care about is describing a medium size object model: classes, sub-classes, attributes, relations, etc.
    2) A basic Java IDE. Don't need EJB or anything complex. Just want to compile run and debug simple Java programs.
I down loaded Net Objects but it seems like overkill for what I want. I looked on some open source sites but almost nothing was native to OSX it all ran under Windows or required a Java virtual machine. Actually I guess that's another question, is there already a Java virtual machine as part of OSX or do I need to download one and if so which would be the best.
I'm willing to spend a few $$ but free stuff would be better and no more than $50. So far I found one product native to OSX but the starting cost was $400+ for a five person license.

In case anyone has the same question, I just found this very nice tool on the Apple web site called Visual Paradigm for UML:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/development_tools/visualparadigmforumlente rpriseedition.html
I'm still getting to know it but this is exactly what I was looking for. Fairly easy to use if you already know OO but not as complex as some other tools and works well on the Mac.

  • MacPro 2006 don´t show Finder after system update for OSX 10.6.8

At startup a grey screen with the Apple and the wheel who stops after abot 10-15 seconds then a flickering screen. I can see the computer on the network but I can´t work with it.
I have tried to Zap the PRAM by starting with Alt, Cmnd, R, P without success, neither is it possible to start from Snow Leopard instalation DVD.
    What has happened?

    Hey there fotomas!
I have a couple of articles here that should help you troubleshoot this issue. The first thing you should try is booting the computer in Safe Mode by following the steps listed in the article below:
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
If that does not resolve the issue, you should try to run a built in program on your computer called the Apple Hardware Test. An article about how to run this program can be found right here:
Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • Changing the icon for saved Web links.

Im trying out different forum topics to see if anyone can help and I thought this would be a cool thing to do and might be doable with an applescript.
I save a lot of web address as files to go back to later and I find the default @ icon for firefox or the blank icon for safari pretty appalling. I was wondering if there was a way to change the icon so that when ever I save a new link file it would use the new icon. I was thinking about just an icon that has the Firefox, safari, chrome logo would be good or even better a little picture preview of the web page its self. Any help on this little idea I have is very appreciated
I really like the idea of a page preview for weblink files. Like this ( http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a238/Nuclearanthrax/Screenshot2010-09-02at1021 41PM.png )
I completely understand a straight up no answer to this. I have no idea how applescript works. I have used it very few times.

    Pierre,
I tried this AppleScript but it was not working. Is there something that I need to check.
I had a few web link files in a folder and the script RAN the INFO window popped up but nothing changed.
This would be a valuable tool for me an my students,
    Thanks in advance

The following script should do part of what you are asking for. However, since it uses [GUI Scripting|http://www.macosxautomation.com/applescript/uiscripting/index.html], you must first enable the Accessibility Frameworks by clicking the checkbox labeled "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access System Preference pane.
Just copy and paste the script into the AppleScript Editor window and click the Run button.

  • Where can I find the RSS icon in Firefox 4.0?

After upgrading to Firefox 4.0 I become unable to find the RSS icon for pages have RSS links. In Firefox 3.6, the RSS icon was located on the right end of the address bar (near the star). Where is the RSS icon located in Firefox 4.0?
    Thanks.

The RSS button has been removed from the location bar. Instead there is a toolbar button that you can add, for details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar - the RSS button is named "Subscribe" in the customize toolbar window.
The RSS button is greyscale, if you prefer to add an RSS icon to the location bar similar to Firefox 3.6, you can use the RSS Icon extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/rss-icon

I connected my iPhone to my macbook to charge it. When I come to eject it I can't find the iphone icon in finder or on desktop?

With Macintosh Computers there is no Finder or Desktop icon for iPhone. Just unplug the iPhone. In iTunes application this is different and you can so-called eject it if you want.

  • Icon for preview

I (being stupid.....again!) replaced my preview icon with another one (for the sake of exparimintation!) and didn't make a copy of the orginal. So what i am asking is. Is there anyone who knows where I can find The original icon for Preview, or who can email it too me. I installed the new icon through the method where you open the information window, and copy and past the new icon over the old one. So.....in order to replace the new one with the old one (The one I want back) you have to have an icon that is THE icon for an Applacation, not just a png. or jpg. file, as i have alreay tried that.(or if anyone knows how to do it someother way, it would be appreacaited if they could tell me)
Hope this makes sense, as I wrote quickly and....yeah, thanks in advance!

  • Remove the unique icon for movie files

In Finder, I get a custom icon for each movie file that is the first frame of the movie. That doesn't help me, so I want to change it to only show the QuickTime image as a custom icon. This is the behavior of Tiger and it was useful to me. I don't get any benefit out of seeing the first frame. I get a benefit out of instantly knowing it is a movie file. Please reply if you know how to revert Leopard to using the application icon rather than the first frame image as the document icon.

Progress? I think not. Anyone know a hack to make the Finder show app icon for all files at once?
Open a Finder window, go to Macintosh HD (or whatever the boot volume is called in your system), click the little gear icon/button, and select "Show View Options", then un-tick "Show icon preview", and click on the "Use as Defaults" button (if this button is not active, select a different option from the Arrange drop-down menu, and it will activate).

    I'm sorry to hear that.
I'm not affiliated w/ the developer, just a happy user that gave up fighting the apple podcast app a while ago.  I used to have a bunch of smart playlists in itunes for my podcasts, and come home every day and pathologically synced my phone as soon as I walked in the door, and again before I walked out the door in the morning.
Since my wife was doing this too, we were fighting over who's turn it was to sync their phone.
Since I've switched to Downcast, I no longer worry about syncing my phone to itunes at all.  I can go weeks between syncs.
Setup a "playlist" in downcast (ex., "Commute") and add podcasts to that playlist.  Add another playlist ("walk" or "workout") and add different podcasts to that one.
Set podcast priorities on a per-feed basis (ex., high priority for some daily news feeds, medium priority for some favorite podcasts, lower priority for other stuff).  Downcast will play the things in the priority you specify, and within that priority, it will play in date order (oldest to newest).
Allegedly, it will also sync your play status to other devices, although that is not a feature I currently use and can't vouch for.  It uses apple's iCloud APIs, so to some extent may be limited by what Apple's APIs can do.

  • How do I find the icon for scanning to a PDF?

I used to have an icon for scanning to a PDF.  Where should I find it?

Go to the system preferences. Click on "Network". Then click on "Airport". There should be a checkbox that say "Show Airport status in menu bar". It should be checked in order to show the icon at the top.

  • I cannot find the icon for office:mac 08 word on my doc, where did it go?

I cannot find the icon for Office: mac 08 word on my doc. I downloaded the whole Office: mac 2008 Home & Student Edition about a year ago and just recently the word icon disappeared. The other Office icons are still visible and i am able to use them but i cannot find the word application anywhere.

Have you used spotlight search? Typed "word" and the application doesn't appear? If it doesn't then it probably isn't around anymore.... so hit command + space ... and type "word"... what happens?
