A single eMail that cannot be trashed?

This happens on my PowerBook G4 and, now an' then, on my other computer: (20 inch iMac) ... I delete a single eMail letter from the "in" list. The letter goes away, and the count next to the "in" and next to the icon in the dock, is reduced by one. Problem is, the letter did not go into the trash .. it just disapeared, and can't be found. If I close "Mail" .. then re-launch, the count is one higher next to "in" and also next to the icon. But, the letter isn't there. Like a Phantom letter. The count says it is there .. but, it isn't. Rebuilding the mailbox brings it back with it's little blue "unread" dot. Any appempt to delete it will fail in the long run, even tho it is easly deleted ... it always comes back. Sort of a Twilight Zone thing. Why is this perticular letter impossible to delete? All other eMail letters delete easily.

No, you’re not alone. It has become a relatively common problem in the last few months. It’s probably related to the spectacular increase in spam and Mail having to deal with malformed messages.
Organizing your mail in custom “On My Mac” mailboxes, as described in the article I referred to in my previous post, reduces the risk of this and other problems happening. If you have a lot of stuff stored there, the risk of corrupting the index and/or the table of contents when a malformed message arrives or something weird happens is much higher, and fixing it in the case of Mail 1.x is harder as well.

  • Why do I periodically have emails that cannot be deleted?

I have a few emails that cannot be deleted and show up with an old date.  How can I get rid of them?

I assume that they are dated something like 31/12/1969 ?
Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Single email account, cannot open inbox

    Hi,
I've switched email accounts, and had to change it on my iPod Touch. I've added my new Gmail account, made sure it worked, and then removed my ISP's email account. I've had 2 email accounts for about an hour.
After deleting the old account, I found I was unable to access the inbox of my gmail account in Mail.
Even rebooting it, removing the one account left, and adding a bogus account did not fix it. Adding the bogus account did give me access to the unified inbox, but after removing it, I was stuck without being able to access the inbox.
Does anyone know how I can access both my inbox and the other folders, without adding a bogus account...
    Thanks!!

    bump
Does anyone have a thought on this issue? I'm not finding any new things I can do...

  • How to open an email that cannot be opened by regular programs. Notepad or Word show code only where picture is.

This has happened many times. I click on an attachment from a friend, it asks me to select a program to open the file, I try several, all with the same results. Some text and then where a picture is, all I get is code in a rectangle.

Does the attachment have a common file extension, such as PDF, DOC, PPS, etc.?
If you don't see the file extensions, they might be hidden. You can unhide them using
My Computer ''or'' Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab
Scroll down and turn off the hiding of file extensions.

  • I cannot sync my iphone music, i had used my i phone on another pc, now when i bought a song on this computer from the apple store, i have just been sent an email that says Your Apple ID, was just used to purchase "" by a computer or device not prev assoc

i cannot sync my iphone music, i had used my i phone on another pc, which died.  Ive managed to save the hard drive and transfer stuff across. I ended up smashing my phone and could update all other stuff on restore but cant sync any music.  It is all grey at the top of the screen.  Ive re installed itunes and cleared all phone data. Now when i bought a song on this computer from the apple store, i have just been sent an email that says Your Apple ID, was just used to purchase (a song ) by a computer that had not been previously associated with that apple id.  So do i have to tell apple now somehow i am using itunes on this pc, and if so how? Because i authorised it and it said this pc was one of 5 aujthorised.  if anyone can be of assistance then great!

I'm having a similar problem.  I had previously (over a year ago) purchased 2 episodes of Law & Order.  Then about 2 months ago, I purchased the 3rd season of Sons of Anarchy.  When I downloaded these episodes to my iPad, about a dozen full seasons of various shows popped up, too.  No money was removed from my iTunes account & theses particular shows aren't in my iTunes library on my desktop.  I've tried every which way to delete them from my ipad, but can't.  I went to the Apple store & they suggested I contact expresslane.apple.com for help.  I submitted my problem, via email Friday, as they asked, but have not received any response.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of these "phantoms?".

  • How do I delete an email address that cannot be found in my contacts app

An unknown email address always pops up when I try to select a recipient
That email address cannot be found anywhere in the contacts app when I try to get it deleted.
It is an invalid address, as when I sent out a testing email, it was bounced as delivery failed.
Is there a way to delete it ?
    Thank you.

No there is no way to delete it. The addresses that the mail app "remembers" have nothing to do with what is in the Contacts App. If you mistakenly typed an incorrect email address at one time in the mail app - it is going to continue to come up as a suggestion from now on. There is no way to remove those short of restoring the iPad as a new device.

  • I transferred a pages file from ipad to mac (also pages) via email for editing. However received message that cannot save edited document to the mac because "trial period has expired for iwork"! I have purchased pages for both machines separately. Ideas?

I transferred a pages file from ipad to mac (also pages) via email for editing. It opened normally. However, after editing, received message that cannot save edited document to the mac because "trial period has expired for iwork"! I have purchased pages for both machines separately and presumed they would work without a hitch. Am I missing something?

It used to be that to update the trial to the licensed version with the box, you just inserted the DVD & ran the installer to convert the trial to licensed. This changed with Snow Leopard. You now need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

  • TS3899 I cannot send emails that have attachments on either my iPhone 5 or my ipad.  This has happened before.

For some reason I cannot, out of the blue, send an email that contains a PDF attachment.  I have shut off my ipad and iphone5 , as this is happening on both, removed and added email accounts, and nothing works.

Hi and thanks again for trying to help.
    Definitely works ok from pc.
Have deleted and re-established account a few times now but still the same.
I have actually given up and added gmail account which is working fine.
    Sends and receives no problem.
    Bloody bigpond....
We are not remote at all. Sitting in the fantastic Pavilion Hotel in Phnom Penh. Another couple here having trouble but not bigpond. Hotel staff have tried to help but to no avail.
Giving up and stick with gmail until we get home then start trying to get resolution.
Problem actually existed on a personal wi fi network in Melbourne before we left so I should have tried to resolve it then.
    Thanks again for suggestions.

Check Mail Preferences, Accounts tab. Select the account, then the Mailbox Behaviors tab. See if you have it set to Permanently erase deleted messages when: One week old. (or less)

  • Can I recover a deleted email that is not in the Trash?

Can I recover a deleted email that is not in the Trash?

If you have a recent backup yes. Or, possibly, if you do not use your computer at all (so the hard drive is not written on) and get some recovery software or company to try to see if the file is retrievable (not cheap). Other than that, unfortunately not.

  • TS3276 Getting duplicate emails including ones that I just trashed.

After rebuilding my mac mail I start getting duplicate emails including ones that I just trashed. How do I resolve this.?

10.5.8 & even 10.4.1 can talk to iCloud Mail, (no other syncing is available though), but iCloud is IMAP only, as far I know.
    To be safe,
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Once we have those backed up we can try deleting again, at least the POP account, trashing IMAP may either delete it on the Server too, or redo it on the computer.

Use your PC to sign-on to your mail service using the browser interface they provide. Delete all the e-mails you don't want on the server. That will prevent the iPad from downloading them.

I have an iPhone 5 and email that is being deleted from trash is reappearing in trash a few minutes later.  Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any suggestions as to how to correct it?

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
